New York Mets 2010-11 Winter report

Well, the Manhattan Mini-Storage ads on the trains and phone booths don't seem to paint a nice picture of the Mets' future...

I saw that on the Hot Foot Blog....low blow,Manhattan Mini Storage...we may be down for the moment, but don't count us out!

It's not like Manhattan has a team, they let theirs get away in 1957, the New York Giants, now the World Series Champion San Francisco Giants.

So the deed is done Evans has been placed on waivers along with Luis Hernandez and Pat Misch. We will get all the details of the waiver process tomorrow ( Wednesday). All three players have 48 hours to either clear waivers or be claimed by another team.
What this means for Nick is Evans is out of minor-league options, meaning that the team risks losing him on waivers if it tries to demote him. Nick would have to report to Triple-A Buffalo if unclaimed
This totally sucks to me I hate this beyond words. That kid has been pushed and dumped by the Mets for three years now even thou he keeps on performing well the Mets just keep blowin him off. For sure this move is in no way Nicks fault Last year for example Evans did nothing but hit, he combined to hit .300 with 23 home runs with 80 RBI in just 125 games while putting up solid numbers in 26 at-bats in the majors. Wait there’s more, this spring he received the most at-bats of any player on the Mets and hit well posting a .333 batting average and showing some modest power with a .420 slugging percentage.
Some one out there has to have noticed this and if the Mets are blind to his capability and potential I can only hope another team will recognize hat and give him a job. NO, I don’t want him going back to AAA, NOT AGAIN. Someone needs to sign him now. Surely the accumulation of his minor league career coupled by this awesome spring performance has to have opened up some eyes and claim him as ca solid regular. The Mets had their shot with my boy Nick and blew it again and have lost the right to ever benefit from this hard working potential all star player.

Some of us were on conference call late last night and discussing this, considering that every team is finalizing their roster right now, and needing to make cuts of their own, meaning there is a decent chance that Evans makes it through and on to Buffalo. But Nick no longer wants to play in the minors and although he came up the Mets, loves the Mets and wanted to make the Mets, number one is he wants to play baseball in the majors but as I said we’ll find out by Wednesday whether Evans makes it through
I had held up hopes for Nick waiting to see what would happen to Beltran cause with Carlos on the DL Nick might have stayed. But Beltran is breaking camp with the team so that’s out. The kid who might benefit from this is Lucas Duda who can now break camp with the Mets if Carlos Beltran crashes and burns leaving Lucas and Hairston starting in right field

Here is the thing, I do like about how the Mets are handling Beltran they are putting the pressure on him to prove he can play and I mean play on a major league level. Throw his sorry ass and his tired ole knees out there and prove he can play. Today he is going to play seven innings first time he is doing that this spring he will also bat 6th which could also be the spot he will play opening day that way if he fails he is basically a secondary piece and not the primary guy, that way changes in the end of the lineup can be made and not in the lead off spots. Remember, by playing him the Mets have lost the ability to backdate him on a potential trip to the DL

I was also sad about Pat Misch another kid I got to know and love, he is likely to clear waivers after all he did a great job filling in for the Mets at the end of last season and posted solid numbers all around in the minors,
I wonder thou if another team is unlikely to give a spot on the 40-man roster for him. Pat has the option to opt out of his contract if he clears waivers, doubtful thou cause he knows exactly what to expect pitching in Buffalo

So the opening day roster is pretty much set, assuming with the last bench spot goes to Daniel Murphy. The last expected bullpen slot is between Blaine Boyer, Manny Acosta and Jason Isringhausen.
This is what it prolly will look like the rooster is announced, stay tuned
Josh Thole, Ike Davis, Brad Emaus, Jose Reyes, David Wright, Jason Bay, Angel Pagan and Carlos Beltran. Bench players; Scott Hairston, Mike Nickeas, Chin-lung Hu, Willie Harris and Daniel Murphy Pitching Starters; Mike Pelfrey, R.A. Dickey, Jonathon Niese, Chris Young, Chris Capuano Pen Long reliever D.J. Carrasco Loogy, Tim Byrdak Middle Relievers; Taylor Bucholz, Pedro Beato, Izzy/Acosta/Boyer. Setup Man; Bobby Parnell Closer, Francisco Rodriguez

OK SO THIS JUST HAPPENED!!!

Jason Bay is feeling discomfort in his rib cage, and so he is on his way back to St. Lucie from Viera to see a team doctor. Bay strained a rib cage muscle during batting practice and has been scratched from today’s lineup, Possibly an oblique injury which would mean a lot of back and forth and a long time on the disabled list. Sooooooooo Nick Evans who if you read my post form this morning know is currently available to other teams on waivers. If Nick clears wavers he could take Jason Bay‘s place on the roster should he need to be put on the disabled list. If Nick does get claimed and Bay ends up on the disabled list, Lucas Duda has got to be on the roster and starting in right. Also, this could mean that, on days when Carlos Beltran gets a day off, the outfield will be Duda, Angel Pagan and Willie Harris.

More bigger news just announced, Daniel Murphy and Blaine Boyer will make the Opening day roster,
The Irish hammer is in :=D:

Stay tuned things keep on a changing every hour

With all this happening, I think it is time to say "Let's Go Mets!!" I'm ready for this season to get started, get the angst going, get the heartburn machine in gear. I'm sure there will be a couple of roster moves coming, probably with Bay, may as well DL him, the weather up north is still pretty chilly and damp. Let him stay in FLA and recuperate in the warm temps. Could be a move at catcher, depending on what they find is wrong with Paulino, and what other teams do with any extra catchers.

So i been out of the loop for over a week now, been focusing on Uconn (since in live in CT). So all this news is all new to me! But, Sonny got a SNY question for you. The new hosts of Beer Money and Mets weekly are just plain terrible and dreadful to watch. I watched Mets weekly yesturday and didnt dig that new girl. I know that Alexandria couldnt do Mets weekly bc of her other job, but why no Panos for beer money?? I liked her and Alexandria when they did Beer money, but these new hosts are really BAD!! Any insight??

Gtru, I love most of the SNY programming I am friends with a lot of SYN people. Beer Money is a fav of mine cause I like to guess the answers I will be on that show some day. :D Problem for me is Carlin I really do not like that dude who is so arrogant and full of himself just a blotted windbag as far as I am concerned. He is one of the reasons I do not like to watch the post games shows I prefer to check out Geico SportsNite later. As to Alexi Panos she is limited to how much she can take on this year mainly due to her hosting HGTV’s Run My Makeover starting in July, I agree I love her too and s you said Julie is sooo busy she has expanded now into all sorta stuff.
I once questioned one of the guys last year about how they went about choosing hosts and was told that general personality and some baseball knowledge is needed with an emphasis on personality. If you look at the collection of people doing the shows this year I have to wonder what they are thinking I am not thrilled with the girls in particular. Apparently people like Julie and Alexi are not that easy to find. So we may have to bear with them at least for this year. I was particularly irritated by the kid they choose last year for Kids Clubhouse I think that show is way adorable and the guys love to do it. But they chose some 10-11 year old girl and she was much put of place and so wrong for the show. By the way Kevin Burkhartd was on of guys that choose that kid he thought she would be perfect, sigh... what-a-ya-gonna do. Love ya KB

Yup Syam it’s way over time so Lets Go Mets I will not allow ant Ageda to get me this year

So lets begin with Bay, will someone please tell all the sportscasters who are doing their usual the sky is falling on the Mets crap that we don’t give a rats ass about Bay. He has done nothing for us since he joined the club, nothing, notta, bupkis. Then he ran into a wall and missed most of last season. This spring I had hoped to see Bay come back strong and be a productive player but it did not happen, once again we were treated to watching him walk up to the plate strike out or pop up and then walk back to the dugout. He could not even hit 87 MPH fastballs for goodness sake. ](*,) He has been a major disappointment and I would not care if ever play for us again. Bay is now officially on DL w strained left ribcage he will stay in St. Lucie. Eligible to be activated April 9 Lucas Duda is the aire apparent to right field while Bay is out but won’t play the first game tomorrow he will start on Saturday instead. Wille Harris plays left field on Friday.

As you know Nick Evans cleared waivers and he has accepted an assignment to AAA Buffalo, he did not want free agency. I got to spend some time with him yesterday as he headed for upstate, he is feeling fine obviously disappointed not making the team AGAIN! But I was happy to see he was not as distraught as I have seen him on previous times when he got sent down. I guess we have at look at this way why stay and fill in for Bay for a couple of weeks only to be sent down when Bay returns Plus if Evans were on the roster he’d need to go through waivers again before being returned to the minors Nick wants to wait for a permanent rooster spot which he deserves and everyone believes will get in time.
I will be making a ton of trips to Buffalo this year to spend time with Nick and let you guys know how he is doing. Bisons open their season on April 7th against Syracuse.

As to Paulino the Mets this morning shut him down pending the results of blood work, the doctors were concerned by what they saw and ordered him down. Of course he is already still under a 50 game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs. By the way if you were wondering about those “visa issues” he had it was that suspension which delayed Paulino's arrival at spring training by several weeks. This means that Mike Nickeas will be Tholes backup for now at least.

Daniel Murphy (the official NY Met now) :=D: reports that he was up early and hit the road with the Mets for Miami, workouts are scheduled for 4PM today and of course first game of the 2011 season is tomorrow with the Marlins. Murph also wanted to remind me his birthday is tomorrow :D

Jason Isringhausen has decided to accept the extended spring training assignment the Mets offered him, keeping his arm fresh and biding his time before the Mets needed him.

Pat Misch will also stay with the Mets

In the thanks goodness we don’t have to deal with his drama anymore file Luis Castillo has been released by the Phillies. Just too much of a pain in the ass
