Mets Lets Go 2015
Lots of interesting posts guys, I am so glad to see the input.
Syam let me start with your comment about catchers and their importance. I have written a lot on that subject but to boil it down, the catcher can play an important role in a pitchers success. The catcher ability to call the game is crucial, he hasta know his pitcher's mechanics and strengths, and of course the batters weaknesses and knowledge of his strenghts, a very important job. I am a firm believer in the relationship of a pitcher with his catcher, and also think it is wise for a manager to allow a pitcher to pick his catcher. I once had this conversation with a Brooklyn Cyclones manager who agrees with that however Jerry manual does not. Jerry believes it is bad for a pitcher to become too dependent on a catcher and wants his pitchers to be able to be more flexible and play with all of the catchers on the rooster. A perfect example of how a good catcher/pitcher matchup works well is Pelfrey and Blanco. They are as one unit perfect together and as long as Henry is on the team he should catch for Pelf. I do not agree with Manual on opinion on that matter. I pitch every summer and have always called for my own catcher, a kid I have known and played with for four years; I am just more comfortable with him behind the plate and would not want to pitch to anyone else as long as he is around. I don’t worry about getting too comfortable as Manual thinks, cause I still take bull pen with other guys and that’s enough.
Manual made an interesting and I think excellent move for today’s double header, he is switching the rotation between Perez and Santana. The regular rotation would have put Perez in game one and Santana in game two, but Manual swapped em around. What this will do is allow Santana to pitch against Halliday in the Phillies game next week so good move Jerry that will be amazing.
I stand by my belief that Dicky should be considered for the rotation if Maine fails again. I know someone here wrote that Dicky was “not very good” but if you have seen him pitch or followed his career as I have you would understand my appreciation of him.. I also spoke to the Cyclones pitching coach about Dicky who felt he will be a great asset for the Mets. If Maine continues to have problems he needs to go to the pen and give the ball to either Takahashi or someone like Dicky. Maine is a mental mess and I believe it is affecting him physically. Of course I also worry that demoting Johnny may screw with his head all the more but perhaps it will help him settle down. He’s got the stuff but he can’t seem to use it.
OK saucy I will let up on Bay; he seems to be coming along now and may earn that big salary after all. But you know me I gotta hit em when they disappoint.
Lastly David Wright, a lot has been said about his “slump” I have written abut it many times. David is just very confused about his approach and his swing he is trying to many things and his strike outs are alarming. He seems to be doing a lot of guessing, when gets his fastball he either fouls it back or misses it, when he gets a curveball he misses it by like a foot. He just seems so unsure of himself. I have also noticed that when he falls behind in the count he mostly takes a first pitch strike, 0-1 he will strike out, 1-2 again he strikes out this happens 20 otta about 25 times. Like I said, he’s guessing. Plus think about this, if he is striking out 0-2, as he is, it tells me the pitchers do not fear him they are coming right after him; in fact they are challenging him. I noticed just the other day he seemed not to be battling as he did not even recognizing the curve ball.
