New York Mets 2010

We tried to help you guys out, we really did...

But the (wow, kind of hot Nix!) didn't help your situation...

I assume anytime we beat the Phillies though, you don't care ;)

and holy shit to the fan getting tazed on the field!

http://www.crossingbroad.com/2010/05/phillies-fan-gets-tased.html

Oh baby we Met fans know you tried and do care and very much appreciate your Cards beating the Phillies.
Too bad the Mets did not take advantage of that and get a win and regain first place.
Lets try it again tonight, ok babe;)
That pitcher, besides being hot, is a terrific alhlete, no small feat going from college ball skipping the minors and going directly to the majors.:=D:

Abs,I'm thrilled the Redbirds took down the Phillies tonight of course;),but I think of the wasted opportunity of a good Ollie effort and it pisses me off.The eight game winning streak.

Hopefully we're not getting complacent but the vibes aren't good.We have to generate more offense...I can understand getting beat the other night in Philly by Roy Halladay,he's like has been mentioned a master on the mound. But let's not wipe out all the good that came out of the streak by reverting to old,bad habits again.

In a Mets fan blog that I go to called Hot Foot, there was a quote that perfectly described the experience of watching the Mets as a dedicated fan over the past few years..."Baseball is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings"Definitely feels that way at times for Mets fans!

Sonny, the best of luck in your new season:D...know how much you love playing the game and especially pitching and hope you and your team does great..| You're not just a huge fan but a dedicated student of the game!

Really needed this one tonight against Cincinnati,Mets win 5-4..John Maine was very good again allowing only two runs and four hits in six, striking out six. That's big for us,especially with Johann Santana getting rocked on Sunday and Mike Pelfrey's arm scare...we need John to find his way back and he's been showing good signs of getting there.

David Wright homered, his sixth already after last year's power shortage only resulted in ten for the season. But Rod Barajas especially has been huge, with his power presence down in the order...the decisive run tonight on his sixth homer, solo shot in the ninth.Mets haven't had a power threat at catcher since Mike Piazza...obviously,Rod isn't anywhere like Mike as a hitter, but he looks primed to possibly pass his career high of 21 on this pace, and had 19 last year. The way he has worked with the pitching staff and is a solid presence behind the plate,he has made a big difference so far.

Nice game last night, good to see us back and winning, keep it up guys
Of significance is John Maine’s performance. This is the second outing where we could see flashes of the old Maine from a few years ago. Member him? The late, rising movement on his fastball is back and I loved that he was able to use it effectively against the lefties. He is challenging hitters again, Thanks goodness they left him to get out of trouble in the 6th. I was so hoping they would let him work it out and damn if he didn’t great job! If Maine can continue pitching like that we are going to be in great shape pitching wise. Even Perez has shown improvement, I am a bit concerned about Pefrey who once again experienced shoulder tightness before and after his Saturday start in Philadelphia. Mike had a precautionary MRI and it came out fine. But still Mike will only throw what is called a "touch and feel" before his next start which is basically light tossing off a mound rather than going full throttle.
Warthen said. He'd rather him not aggravate it or whatever,” That comment and decision not to let him throw bull pen concerns me just a bit. Let’s just hope nothing big is brewing there.

Ok so Barajas is tearing it up for us. Not only has he been outstanding behind the plate but his offense is just been outstanding. Maybe it’s time to think about him in cleanup, Bay is undependable.

More injury news, Escobar arrived in Port St. Lucie with "weakness" in his shoulder and was relegated to playing catch. So now he will have surgery tomorrow to repair a torn capsule in the front of his right shoulder.

Thanks for the words Saucy, I am feeling great about the new season. I have been working on my secondaries with a Cyclones pitcher and feel really good about my ability to change my pitches effectively and dominate the batters. This weekend will be all out throwing from the mound and I am sooo excited about our new season.:D

Hope you never stop havin that dream babe ;)

I hope you guys got a chance to see yesterdays Bisons game on SNY
My boy R.A. Dickey retired a record 27 consecutive batters in a 4-0 absolute gem a performance that was simply awesome. It was made extra special cause with just 90 pitches, he owned the Bulls, who are prolly the best hitting club in the International League, in a complete one hit game. I counted 12 ground outs and nine flyball outs. He threw 68 of his 90 pitches for strikes.

I just dono if Ollie Perez will ever again pitch as well as this guy can, if Manual does make a change eventually forget Takahashi and bring up Dicky. I know I keep raving about this kid but he is the real deal. Guys, ya gotta see him pitch :=D:

YN4DYmFU.jpg

Gotta disagree on Dicky. He's what 35? At this point you know what you'll get out of him. He's a guy that can own AAA, but not the majors. His best season his ERA was over a 5. I fail to see how he can be an asset. Maybe for a short period of time. But no way he can replace Ollie. Despite how poor he can be, he can also be lights out. Dicky thus far hasn't been anything close to that in the majors. If he was in his early to mid 20s I'd say give him a shot, but at 35 he's a player you know what he's gonna do

Another game we lost that we should have won. All those guys left on base and the inability to drive in those runs is so frustrating.
Jon Niese was not great but not terrible either. pretty much what you hope to get out of your #5 starter. Not happy with the 12 hits and 4 runs he gave up, but no walks. He did do a good job of getting on top of the ball and finishing his pitches but my concern was that later in the game you could see him start to drop his arm angle a bit, what that does is makes his fastball flatten and what’s worse is the batters are tipped of to his curveball. You could see how it hung a lot and I am sure the batter knew what was coming cause it was more over the top. There were a couple of sharp curves, but mostly like I said the rest hung high or never really made it into the strike zone, and cutting off the follow through on it. I am thinking the Reds figured out easily that they could sit on the fastball and slider, which both were flat, plus they only moved in a horizontally direction, I saw no vertical drop which just makes the pitch not work at all just basically ineffective. If I am sounding too critical I don’t mean to be cause I still think he is a good #5 guy, I’m just pointing out things that he needs to improve…and he will.

So it’s back to NY and hopefully a repeat of the outstanding home stand we had before this road trip. That would be good to see. I dono what Manual will do with the lineup, but I still wanna see Reyes batting lead off and get Bay the fuck out of the clean up spot. Give it to Wright or Francour, maybe even, now don’t laugh, Barajas, yeah I know the catcher hitting cleanup, but come on we gotta get Bay outs there. That guy has been such a dissapointment to us. He is doing an excellent job in right field I will give him that but his offense is just plain God awful. What’s that I hear?…oh yeah the Red Sox laughing and patting them selves on the back for letting Jason go. Just yesterday he left 6 runners on base and went 0-for-4.and yes I know he isn’t the only one guilty of stranding runners. But when is he going to heat up?

David Wright has busted out, he may have figured out at last. He regained the power to take an inside pitch and hit it out of the park is back. Up until a couple of weeks ago there was no going the other way for David cause pitchers were not pitching him out there, but now David has shown the ability to go the other and has taken that part of the plate back. He is now showing the pitchers he is not afraid of that ball inside and that he could put it in play and put it in play with authority. Maybe it’s that beard he has been growing but what ever it is Welcome back David we missed you.

Ike Davis has got to breathe and chill out, the poor kid has been so frustrated by his lack of ability to get the hits he wants. He has slowed a bit but everyone has told him that the book would be out on him soon and pitchers were going to challenge him. But the Ike man has not reacted well to all of this and is letting it get to him a bit. He need last night and today off, he is going to today watch the videos and learn from them. I have no doubt he will make the adjustments he needs I just want him to quit beating himself up. If you have ever noticed Ike heading back into the tunnel after an at bat it's because sometimes he likes to go to the video room and watch and learn from the at bat.
Perhaps the package of clothes his mom sent him that is waiting at his apartment will cheer him up, Ike has been complaining about not having enough clothes here in NY, so momma Davis took care of that and sent a big box, even sent him a suite, how cute is that.;)

Oh, and could we please trade Gary Matthews Jr now. I also want the Mets to take along hard look at Chris carter who is tearing it up in Buffalo. Send him a ticket to Flushing. I also need to remind them that Dicky is still throwing gas and his era is now 2.31…I’m just sayin. ;)

I hope the Mets bats wake up soon, but this weekend could be continued frustration with the great pitching the Giants have. The bullpen can be had, but their starters usually give 6-8 solid innings of work. I think the Reyes in the 3 hole trial has gone on long enuff, move him back to leadoff, he's trying to hit everything in the air again. Let's go Mets!!

All eyes will be on Mike Pelfrey tonight, Pelf gave us a little scare the other day when he complained of tightness in his shoulder. An MRI showed no structural damage, but some inflammation and tendinitis, but the Mets have been treating him with kid gloves ever since. I mentioned yesterday that Mike was not going to throw regular bull pen but throw what the team calls a light "touch and feel" session instead But when he got to the pen Wednesday, he shrugged off the instructions to throw a low-effort, 15-to-20 pitch session and opted for a hard-throwing, 40-pitch effort. Pelf said "I wanted to let it go, I wanted to see how it felt." Pelfrey made it through the session with no issues and said he will be ready to make his start Friday against the Giants. But lets’ not forget what happened to him in Philadelphia. Pelf was lit up by the Phillies for 6 runs in 4 innings. It was the first bad game that he’s had this season. It was really the first bad inning that he’s had. Let’s all hope Pelf bounces back and goes deep tonight. No matter how deep Pelf goes I hope Manual will not use Fernando Nieve. That kid has been maxed out these last few weeks and it is time to give him a break. Not along break but Manual has to ease up on using him so much. Nieve has appeared in 17 games total and in nine of the last 10 games.

I will also be interested in what Manual does with the line up, will Reyes continue batting third and will Bay remain the cleanup spot. I am not sure about Reyes but my gut tells me that Bay will remain in cleanup which is a bad move cause he is just not getting the job done…not at all.

I am trying really hard, I really am, to trust Manual, so many people keep telling me to have faith in him. But you know Jerry continues to make wacked out decisions like leaving Santana in the game for so long on Sunday. He did not even having anyone getting ready in the pen so that when Takahashi was mercifully and finally called in he was not ready. In fact manual made it worse when asked why after Victorino's grand slam, why he didn’t he take Johan out by saying "the guy in the bullpen was indisposed or not ready", Huh….:the guy” as in singular??? Were you watching that game Jerry?? Did you not see the need to get a coupe of guys up in the pen?? Are you kiddin me??? Then there was Wednesday game when Manual double-switched David Wright out of the game in the bottom of the 10th inning. I could go on trust me there has been a lot more of Manuals bad decisions but moves like this do make you wonder if Manuel is costing his team wins with roster decisions. Keep it up Manual and that clock for your replacement will stat ticking again.

Daniel Murphy has started his rehab games and is still expected to go to Buffalo soon. What I am told is that Murphy will be given a chance to learn 2nd base before rejoining the Mets. I like that, we need him on the bench which is weak, I just want him to have a bit of time in AAA to fully recover and work on his skills in other position besides first.
.

Feeling a LOT better regarding Pelf. Not incredible tonight but did the job, looked comfortable and went into the eighth inning, most importantly.Hopefully the soreness was just some incidental thing and Mike is back on track.Just seems so much more mentally tough this year and the confidence level is like night and day.

San Francisco rookie Jonathan Bowker's game tying homer in the ninth off of K-Rod could have been devastating, but damn Rod Barajas just seems to be having one of those years where special, really really good things happen in clobbering that walkoff two run homer to seal a 6-4 Met win in addition to his earlier homer.Nine home runs already, most of them huge!Maybe Rod should bat cleanup, sonny as long as he's on a tear like this!Probably one of the best victories of the year...tell you, when the Mets play well,CitiField rocks!:DAll the fans are looking for is to believe in Amazin'things again!..|

Felt good for Jason Bay getting that huge RBI double knocking in Jose Reyes earlier in the game.He just needs to relax and let the game come to him...I think he'll be fine but sonny,I share your frustration he hasn't got going of yet.Hopefully tonight will start getting him out of his funk.We need Jeff Francouer also to stop thinking too much and relax and do what he was doing in the first couple of weeks hitting everything in sight. And David Wright,as well.

Lastly, how about Ike Davis!!!..|Another somersault into the dugout outstanding catch...the guy really has some great coordination and love his all out hustle!Plus two huge homers, really showing authority with clouts off the Pepsi Porch in right center and over dead center. So afraid of him that he was walked in the ninth like there was no doubt that Frisco wasn't going to have anything to do with him....quite an honor for a rookie.Hopefully after he has ben struggling a bit Ike has started to come out of it...his professionalism and maturity indicated it was only a matter of time. He'll make the adjustments, unless you're a great exception even the best had to struggle at some point(s) in their careers.

What a classic game last night it had to be the best one so far this year.

Saucy I loved your post about last night; I always look forward to your thoughts.
It was a big relief to se Pelf pitch a well as he did. I loved his low pitch count and his ability to go deep. He did not walk anyone although I woulda liked more strikeouts. He also made some nice defensive plays like that great play he and Wright made on an attempted sacrifice bunt by Jonathan Sanchez. As a matter o fact the Mets defense was damn good last night. Castillo was awesome, and my boy Davis and that catch in the ninth blew me away. That kid seems to love being an acrobat over that wall, second time he has done that this year.

I have complained about some of Manual’s roster moves but his decision to leave Davis in against a lefty was very smart. Jerry has a problem with that as a rule I recall how many times he took Murphy out against lefties. But Ike has worked especially hard on his batting skills against the lefties, I have written about that many times. In one of my conversations with him he said he was going to make that a priority while he was in AAA, and ya know what I think he met that challenge rather well. Two home runs against a pitcher who before that had never given up a homer against a lefty, but the Ike man put an end to that last night. I watched Ike’s face as he stood at the plate just before the first homer and I swear he seemed to be saying go ahead punk challenge me with a fastball. Well when he got it he dropping the barrel of the bat and turned on it, you need to understand THAT is just plain great hitting, seriously. Ike is now 7 for 10 against left handed pitchers When Ike got back to his locker lat night and turned on his blackberry it pretty much exploded with congratulations messages. One of his brothers making particular fun at Ike’s acrobatics.

Of course thanks to K-Rod things got a little dicey in the ninth when he hung one over the plate that got crushed. He blew that save and ruined Pelfrey’s win. But the oh so hot Barajas came to the plate and made it all better when he turned that hanging slider into a walk off home run.:=D:

So Pelf is fine and now today Santana will have to prove that he is as well. If ever there was a time for him to step up today is the day.
I have practice all day so I won’t see the game live but the ole DVR will be running and I’ll catch the game later tonight. I am very excited to see Santana I just want so badly for him to dominate

If you missed Ike’s catch in last night’s game here it is. I love gary Cohens reaction

Glad Alex Cora was right by him just to make sure Ike didn't get hurt, but Ike is a very coordinated athlete...damn he has such great reach to go over as far as he did....he mentioned he guesses he just has those long arms, and does he ever!;)He mentioned it was particularly important at the point in the game to get that out,but if it happened even in the first inning,he'd try to make the play anyway.Just has that all out mentality,it's got to have a positive effect on everyone else.

Sonny,so right you are about Ike vs.lefthanders, and a great psychological move by Jerry Manual to allow Ike to face a really tough lefty.Ike got around on him twice and made a statement that he can hit anyone, and for him the rep he had as unproven against quality lefthanders...well,hopefully that will be long forgotten if he keeps tagging lefties as he did Sanchez, who as you mentioned had given up no homers previously to lefty hitters.

Another big RBI by Jason Bay,Pagan was big today, tripling in two runs...and Henry Blanco had a real nice day, three hits punctuated by his walkoff homer in the 11th the day after Rod Barajas' two run game winner in the bottom of the ninth.Even got a cream pie in the face in celebration after the game.

Hope you have a great practice sonny and keep working in those secondary pitches!..|Nice bounceback following the three straight losses after the eight game winning streak.Johann Santana wasn't great, but kept the Mets in the game and was tough when he had to be,four runs on eight hits in seven and two thirds...a huge improvement from his awful previous start giving up ten runs in three and two thirds innings.

Thanks Saucy, trust me I am working on those secondary pitches.
I have a great deal of help from two, count em two, Cyclone pitchers, so I am blessed.
I loved what you said about Ike, to know him is to love him. I also saw that interview regarding his long arms,
in fact he has described himself as a “long drink of water”

What is up with those Mets catchers and walk off home runs, how great is that, I sure don't miss Schneider

Santana improved, interesting how after all this time he tried something new in his delivery. He did not have his glove up around his face when looking in at the plate. Instead, dropped his glove instead of keeping it up, Johan said he was "Trying to keep it down and relax his shoulders a little bit more which gives him more time to get his grips. Surprisingly he admitted that he may have been tipping his pitches so by lowering the glove it makes him more consistent. When I first saw him pitch yesterday I thought WTF is he doing?? I never saw him do that before but after he explained I thought I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks. Keeping the batters guessing about what we are throwing is one of the most important things we pitchers can do, it is amazing to me that Johan has made that adjustment after all the success he had before. Now all he needs to do is bring that fastball speed up a little, although I have to say I am not as concerned as some are about that, and find his comfort zone cause from what I saw yesterday he has still not found it again. Good man and good luck.

I am sure you guys noticed that Luis Castillo left the game prior to the eighth inning.
According to the Mets, Castillo has a bone bruise in his left foot, and is listed as day-to-day.

We will have a shortened practice today cause we gotta get to Moms and show the love. (*8*)

Just when we thought maybe just maybe Ollie Perez was making some improvement he pitches like a little girl again. On Sunday he was awful, just absolutely terrible, the worst I have ever seen him pitch.
He actually had 3-ball counts to nine straight batters, and 11 out of 12. Only the inability on the part of the Giants to score with bases loaded prevented him from having more runs scored. He also walked 7and threw 98 pitches in just 3 1/3 innings. This by the way is the second time in three starts that he has not made it past the 4th inning. He just continues to show make that prove that he dos not belong in that rotation. The Mets are a major league ball club, Ollie Perez does not fit in, and he has no right to be in that uniform and pitching for the Mets. Take him down promote takahashi.
We can not continue to have this fool pitching, er throwing, er tossing the ball anymore.

Now that I have finished bashing Ollie I have to throw some shit at David Wright, my hero my GOD, David I know you are frustrated by the return of the strikeouts but dude it was so uncharacteristic of you to have a temper tantrum yesterday and get thrown out of the game. I understand you did not agree with the call, granted it was a close call, could’ve gone either way, a fastball that caught you looking off the plate by the time it was caught. But you are David freakin Wright and you are above that reaction, I hope you saw the replay and then apologized to your team for getting tossed. You do realize what would have happened had we tied the game and went into extra innings don’t you. Who was going to replace you? We were out of position players we would’ve had to put a pitcher in the outfield and move one of his outfielders to third base.I guess you figured Mike Pelfrey could have played left field.
Seriously Dave I am disappointed in you, oh and please shave the goofy beard you look scruffy and dirty not a good look for you.
Love Joey

I'm not making excuses for Ollie by any means, but it was a pretty chilly, blustery day. He struggled the last thime the weather was like this. Maybe he'll get better as the weather warms. His track record doesn't necessarily guarantee that, but we can hope. Let's Go Mets!!

i have to say, i love the beard and stuff. makes him look more mature. However i was shocked on how the way he reacted and all the swearing!! WOW!!

Regarding David,he has to relax....the past two years havve seen him go from a dependable key cog to someone who gets into fits that he has to produce the huge hit right now to help the club because of the injuries and inconsistency around him.I'm sure he's embarassed because he's a pro but it seems someone in the organization has to get him to chill and let the game come to him.He had a great streak on the road but when things go wrong he presses, and the strikeouts come in alarming bunches.Jeff Francouer has to take him golfing again...our boy just is too intense and bad at bats with him to the next...he's being his own worst enemy.Got to trust his talent, and keep things simple...though in this organization over the past few years,NOTHING is simple.:rolleyes:Sonny, know you hate being tough on David,I certainly don't want to be either, but it's so frustrating how even pros like David can become swamped by the bad mojo of the past few years with this club.Think David, like sonny said, you're better than that.

I feel kind of bad for Ollie, seeing how despondent he was regarding his horrible performance.Only so much can be excused on bad weather,Lincecum wasn't sharp but gave a solid effort.Ollie has talent but never has learned to get the most out of it,on a consistent basis anyway. The time for excuses is running out fast though...him swearing something like that will not ever happen again may be quite prophetic because the Mets aren't in a position for him to waste the space in the rotation for someone who just cannot control the ball.

I'm not making excuses for Ollie by any means, but it was a pretty chilly, blustery day. He struggled the last thime the weather was like this. Maybe he'll get better as the weather warms. His track record doesn't necessarily guarantee that, but we can hope. Let's Go Mets!!
I wish I could be so generous regarding Ollie, syam but we've seen far too much of bad Ollie to have much patience with him for much longer. When does the lightbulb in the brain click and you finally get it?Ollie will be 29 this year, starting to get past the point of learning how to pitch to your potential and getting dangerously closae to journeyman status.

Thanks Saucy, trust me I am working on those secondary pitches.

Aww,that last sentence is so sweet, know what your family means to you,and I'm sure you made Mom very happy yesterday!:D

Hopefully in this case, day to day Actually means day to day when it comes to these Minaya Mets in Luis Castillo's case.We know what can happen from a simple bone bruise with Carlos Beltran:rolleyes:Oops,my bad...so busy posting didn't see Catillo was in the game...just delivered a sinle scoring Rod Barajas to make it 2-1 Nats in the bottom of the seventh.Guess I was shocked lol by how quickly a Met actually recovered, all the shit we've been through the past year.

That's what you do as a pitcher rather than a thrower, just what Santana does.Never stop thinking, trying to come up with an angle that may help him throw some other looks to the opposition that keeps em guessing. The more ways a real artist on the mound like Santana(compared to Ollie who just lives on his talent alone, never enough)can get someone out,he's got a far better chance of holding down the opposition.Psychology means so much to a master like Santana...especially as he gets older and doesn't seem to have his prime stuff as often anymore, that is so important for him to keep pitching well.

Henry Blanco is on bereavement leave for a short time due to a serious family situation, but now we get to see Josh Thole for a bit...don't know how much he'll play behind the scorching Rod Barajas, but it's got to be a thrill for Josh just to have this taste of the major leagues.Hope he'll get whatever positive he can out of this experience, and we see him back up sometime later this year.

Yep,Barajas is a whole other catcher compared to Brian Schneider and Paul deLuca in his ability to hit for power and help carry the lineup at times. And what he brings behind the plate, and Blanco too to some extent,is so essential for the improvement of Pelfrey and Niese especially.

Sonny,I can practically hear you screaming at your tv at the stupid stunt Jose Reyes just pulled getting thrown out arguing a called strike to end the seventh.God,after what David did yesterday...God this club gives me agita!

3-2.Nats win despite Angel Pagan's long home run to get the Mets within one in the ninth. So many opportunities...so many opportunities wasted and the strikeouts are alarming. This club is never going to get respect even after the eight game winning streak until it gets a new personality...they can't seem to remember what good things they did when they were going on that earlier streak. You gotta dust off defeat, and play hungry and angry...remember the great Mets clubs of the late '80's that played with that chip on their shoulder, that don't give a fuck about anyone attitude? They were hated but for awhile they were RESPECTED.The Mets of the Bobby Valentine years...also not universally loved but damn well respected. They probably receive more pity than anything else for their embarassing, brutally inconsistent play...they should be better than the Nats but despite a solid effort by John Maine, they just don't scare anyone when they are in their lengthy funks.I'm sad as a dedicated Mets fan since 1979...seen the bad, worse, good, great, mediocre, good, great, mediocre, good, mediocre and downright embarassing.Would like to see a nice, long stretch of good-great for once.Time for reflection and resolution, not excuses and complacency.Stay even keeled on the outside, but damn well have that fire and desire to win burning bright inside....that's the way to start moving forward again, and not get perilously stuck in mediocrity and false expectations.

The lack of any clutch hitting is horrible. Jose getting tossed for the third strike call, which, I think was borderline, and way too close to take by a #3 hitter, who is usually the best hitter in the lineup, is not going to help with umps in the future. Word gets around, and the Mets won't get any breaks on close pitches. Not getting runners home from third with none or one out is just inexcusable on the level the Mets make it happen. I don't know what the answer is besides possibly shaking up the lineup, sitting some folks. Sorry to see Catalonatto go, but he was not much help off the bench. Matthews has to be next, and not soon enuff for me. Trade him for a bag of balls or something! Let's give some support for Jon Niese tonite!!

Saucy was on fire yesterday with some great thoughts, Syam had some interesing points as well. Let me add a few things

Beginning with Perez, Lets look at a few facts, Ollie has now walked 25 batters in 30 innings, take a moment to digest that horrific stat. Time and time again he and looks completely dazed and confused or totally lost on the mound. He can not find the strike zone, hell he can’t even locate the catchers glove. His mechanics are beyond inconsistent, which as I have written or I should say complained about many times here makes his release point all over the place. As far as his command, well…there isn’t any. It’s nonexistent.
On top of all of that his velocity is rarely above 85 MPH. I could say sarcastically that it is prolly a good thing Oillie can’t locate the plate cause if he did with that fastball speed that ball would be gone goodbye. Home run.
So here is the problem, the Mets paid him Thirty Six Million Dollars, so It’s no wonder if they are not in any rush to demote him, first of all cause they made a huge mistake in giving him that deal instead of bringing in a quality pitcher and second they do not want to eat all that cash. But we are in this game to win and that should take priority over admitting mistakes or eating cash. The number thing we have to do is win and we can’t do that with Ollie every five days. To me what we need to do is first of all NOT put him in the pen but send him down to the minors, maybe he can figure out what he needs to do to become a major league pitcher which right now he is not. Of course there are no guarantees, maybe he could work on his mechanics but will that bring his velocity back or help his command? Thing I don’t ever remember him ever having had that. You have to wonder if he can be fixed at all. I suppose there may be someone out there who can fix Ollie, He did pitch better when Rick Peterson. Was pitching coach. Ollie needs someone to tell him what to do, and exactly how to do it. But I wonder if Ollie would ever be able to focus and accept an overhaul of his mechanics, get him to focus, and force him into some sort of a disciplined routine. If not it is 36Million down the ole toilet.Of course the Mets could decide to keep sending Perez out to the mound every five days, cross their fingers, legs and eyes and hope for the best. We all know how well that works.
I am not buying into that whole the weather was a factor BS. The Mets think Perez will settle in once the warmer months come around. What a stupid remark to make when you consider the beginning, and even more importantly, the end of the season comes in colder months.
So I guess he an only pitch well in July and August?
So send the poor sap to Buffalo and let him work with Bisons pitching coach Ricky Bones. I love and have met and spoken to Bones and if anyone can help Ollie Ricky can. It’s obvious Worthan can’t.

David Wright continues to confuse me, he had an outstanding on the road trip and as soon as he returned to Citi he went back to striking out and looking totally bewildered,
I did some research and found in his first 10 games of the season, Wright hit .290 and struck out 20 percent of the time. In the following nine games he hit just .156 and struck out nearly 40 percent of the time. Then, he returned to form, hitting .400 with four HR in his next nine games while playing at home, and in Philadelphia and Cincinnati, during which he struck out 25 percent of the time. Now, he’s back to slumping, going 3 for his last 18 plate appearances, in his last four games, during which he’s struck out in almost half of his at bats.
His rhythm makes me nutz, he sees the ball well for a few games, and then he’s out of whack, then for a few games he’s locked in, then he’s out of whack, and the Citifield strike outs swing back and forth too. Then there is his stance and swing, he keeps changing them Remember that leg kick, then a toe tap, well lately he has a leg kick but his arms are raised, and his elbows are bent. I just don’t know what to make of it. Last night with the bases loaded he stuck out as did Davis; I just about turned the game off.

John Maine is really coming back, forget the two homers last night or that he may have struggled with his command walking four. Let’s look at the bigger picture. His mental makeup has greatly improved, he no longer looks like his head is about to explode out there. He does not stress over base runners and that’s huge. He has some nice movement on that fastball that breaks away and in to right handed batters, catching the outside corner… He just needs to keep, his ball from moving across the zone again, That fastball is a major step for Johnny, he didn’t throw his fastball very much during Spring Training, which as by choice, now he is starting to feel better throwing it, and he’s right where he wants to be. I am not worried about Maine he is coming back.

Saucy mentioned Pagans home run which was a highlight for me in last nights game but lets also mention that outstanding throw he made to get Molina out at the pate.:=D:

I too was irratated by Reyes getting thrown out of the game as Wright was on Sunday, so what is in the water theses guys are drinking theses days. Once again the call was a good one Reyes struck out on a pitch that was right on the corner. A completely unacceptable reaction by Reyes.

I agree with you Syam regarding Garry Matthews. Again he was called on to pinch hit and what does he do but strike out with no outs and runners on first and third. I guess we gotta hang on to him till Beltan comes back…if he ever does.

As Saucy wrote, Josh Thole was called up yesterday to catch for Henry Blanco, who went on the bereavement list. I am guessing we might see Josh on Wednesday in a day game after a night game. I am looking forward to that I love, love, love that kid. I got to speak with him a bit in Buffalo a few weeks back and he is trying to put his weak start there behind him. He is struggling now hitting around .200 but still he got the call and I am lovin that. Struggling is new to Josh he thinks it is due to trying to make some unnecessary adjustments to his swing. I predict that weak start will just motivate Josh and he will return to form. He has never struggled as he did in Buffalo.
But he is still an awesome catcher, all the Mets were hoping for when sending him to Buffalo was for him to improve as a receiver and game-caller, the hope is to prepare him for a possible starting job in the majors in 2011. When I saw Him in Bufffalo everyone was talking about Tholes catching and how well he has progressed including the manager. What is important is that Josh feels really good with his catching right now, he ha become more consistent with his throwing, receiving and blocking. He feels really good about himself and that goes a long way.

I wrote the other day about our weak bench and how great it would be to bring Chris Carter up. Well I guess the Mets read that cause they designated Frank Catalanotto for assignment and recalled Carter from Triple A Buffalo.;) Chris just finished an 11-game hitting streak and is batting .339 in 28 games at Triple-A, with 16 extra base hits and 20 RBI.
