Saucy was on fire yesterday with some great thoughts, Syam had some interesing points as well. Let me add a few things
Beginning with Perez, Lets look at a few facts, Ollie has now walked 25 batters in 30 innings, take a moment to digest that horrific stat. Time and time again he and looks completely dazed and confused or totally lost on the mound. He can not find the strike zone, hell he can’t even locate the catchers glove. His mechanics are beyond inconsistent, which as I have written or I should say complained about many times here makes his release point all over the place. As far as his command, well…there isn’t any. It’s nonexistent.
On top of all of that his velocity is rarely above 85 MPH. I could say sarcastically that it is prolly a good thing Oillie can’t locate the plate cause if he did with that fastball speed that ball would be gone goodbye. Home run.
So here is the problem, the Mets paid him Thirty Six Million Dollars, so It’s no wonder if they are not in any rush to demote him, first of all cause they made a huge mistake in giving him that deal instead of bringing in a quality pitcher and second they do not want to eat all that cash. But we are in this game to win and that should take priority over admitting mistakes or eating cash. The number thing we have to do is win and we can’t do that with Ollie every five days. To me what we need to do is first of all NOT put him in the pen but send him down to the minors, maybe he can figure out what he needs to do to become a major league pitcher which right now he is not. Of course there are no guarantees, maybe he could work on his mechanics but will that bring his velocity back or help his command? Thing I don’t ever remember him ever having had that. You have to wonder if he can be fixed at all. I suppose there may be someone out there who can fix Ollie, He did pitch better when Rick Peterson. Was pitching coach. Ollie needs someone to tell him what to do, and exactly how to do it. But I wonder if Ollie would ever be able to focus and accept an overhaul of his mechanics, get him to focus, and force him into some sort of a disciplined routine. If not it is 36Million down the ole toilet.Of course the Mets could decide to keep sending Perez out to the mound every five days, cross their fingers, legs and eyes and hope for the best. We all know how well that works.

I am not buying into that whole the weather was a factor BS. The Mets think Perez will settle in once the warmer months come around. What a stupid remark to make when you consider the beginning, and even more importantly, the end of the season comes in colder months.
So I guess he an only pitch well in July and August?

So send the poor sap to Buffalo and let him work with Bisons pitching coach Ricky Bones. I love and have met and spoken to Bones and if anyone can help Ollie Ricky can. It’s obvious Worthan can’t.
David Wright continues to confuse me, he had an outstanding on the road trip and as soon as he returned to Citi he went back to striking out and looking totally bewildered,
I did some research and found in his first 10 games of the season, Wright hit .290 and struck out 20 percent of the time. In the following nine games he hit just .156 and struck out nearly 40 percent of the time. Then, he returned to form, hitting .400 with four HR in his next nine games while playing at home, and in Philadelphia and Cincinnati, during which he struck out 25 percent of the time. Now, he’s back to slumping, going 3 for his last 18 plate appearances, in his last four games, during which he’s struck out in almost half of his at bats.
His rhythm makes me nutz, he sees the ball well for a few games, and then he’s out of whack, then for a few games he’s locked in, then he’s out of whack, and the Citifield strike outs swing back and forth too. Then there is his stance and swing, he keeps changing them Remember that leg kick, then a toe tap, well lately he has a leg kick but his arms are raised, and his elbows are bent. I just don’t know what to make of it. Last night with the bases loaded he stuck out as did Davis; I just about turned the game off.
John Maine is really coming back, forget the two homers last night or that he may have struggled with his command walking four. Let’s look at the bigger picture. His mental makeup has greatly improved, he no longer looks like his head is about to explode out there. He does not stress over base runners and that’s huge. He has some nice movement on that fastball that breaks away and in to right handed batters, catching the outside corner… He just needs to keep, his ball from moving across the zone again, That fastball is a major step for Johnny, he didn’t throw his fastball very much during Spring Training, which as by choice, now he is starting to feel better throwing it, and he’s right where he wants to be. I am not worried about Maine he is coming back.
Saucy mentioned Pagans home run which was a highlight for me in last nights game but lets also mention that outstanding throw he made to get Molina out at the pate.
I too was irratated by Reyes getting thrown out of the game as Wright was on Sunday, so what is in the water theses guys are drinking theses days. Once again the call was a good one Reyes struck out on a pitch that was right on the corner. A completely unacceptable reaction by Reyes.
I agree with you Syam regarding Garry Matthews. Again he was called on to pinch hit and what does he do but strike out with no outs and runners on first and third. I guess we gotta hang on to him till Beltan comes back…if he ever does.
As Saucy wrote, Josh Thole was called up yesterday to catch for Henry Blanco, who went on the bereavement list. I am guessing we might see Josh on Wednesday in a day game after a night game. I am looking forward to that I love, love, love that kid. I got to speak with him a bit in Buffalo a few weeks back and he is trying to put his weak start there behind him. He is struggling now hitting around .200 but still he got the call and I am lovin that. Struggling is new to Josh he thinks it is due to trying to make some unnecessary adjustments to his swing. I predict that weak start will just motivate Josh and he will return to form. He has never struggled as he did in Buffalo.
But he is still an awesome catcher, all the Mets were hoping for when sending him to Buffalo was for him to improve as a receiver and game-caller, the hope is to prepare him for a possible starting job in the majors in 2011. When I saw Him in Bufffalo everyone was talking about Tholes catching and how well he has progressed including the manager. What is important is that Josh feels really good with his catching right now, he ha become more consistent with his throwing, receiving and blocking. He feels really good about himself and that goes a long way.
I wrote the other day about our weak bench and how great it would be to bring Chris Carter up. Well I guess the Mets read that cause they designated Frank Catalanotto for assignment and recalled Carter from Triple A Buffalo.

Chris just finished an 11-game hitting streak and is batting .339 in 28 games at Triple-A, with 16 extra base hits and 20 RBI.
