Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig said on Tuesday that the Mets "deserve" to host an All-Star Game at Citi Field. The Mets are expected to be awarded the 2013 All-Star Game, but Selig wouldn't confirm anything."The Mets have built a great new ballpark and, yes, they deserve an All-Star Game," Selig said.

David Wright represented the Mets well last night, collecting hits in both of his at-bats, running his All-Star hit streak to five games.
After the game David spoke about the game and the decision for him to only bat twice along with his not trying for third after that second base steal (which I greed with cause he woud have gotten thrown out)
I usually to not to gush about my boy David but he is just so sweet in this clip I just can’t help myself

Can't believe I had missed this one...very hopeful CitiField,the Mets and New York City will host the 2013 All Star Game,it would be incredible for the area.As great as Yankee baseball has been,and the farewell All Star Game at the old Yankee Stadium a couple of years back was tremendous and very poignant,but National League Baseball in New York has held great passion among its supporters throughout the years.Jackie Robinson was a Brooklyn Dodger....maybe NL ball in New York would have survived had there not been a constant struggle between the Giants and Dodgers for public affections but I'm so glad today the Mets continue the tradition of NL baseball in New York,and an All Star weekend here would be such a blast!

I love David here,he's warm,engaging and adorable....the part about the new batting helmets was cute and his deep respect for the way Scott Rolen plays the game,even patterning his own game on Scott's ,is totally genuine.They both play the game with heart and passion and it's refreshing to see Scott return to his old excellence after battling injuries the past few years.


Speaking of blasts,congrats sonny on 7,000 posts....reading them is always a blast!

It's nice and all that Jerry Manuel wanted to keep his word to Jeff Francouer about playing tonight,but the Mets first and foremost need runs and wins.Carlos Beltran returning meaning someone has to sit sometime between Jason Bay,Angel Pagan and Frenchy.I understand you want to keep them all ready for the pennant drive,give em as much playing time as possible.Yet we are in as crucial a road trip as we've had all year...11 games out West with the Giants,Diamondbacks and Dodgers.We've got to win five or six at least to ho;d our ground vs the Philllies and Atlanta.We've got three games with St.Louis to open our next homestand,a very tough club.Until Jose Reyes can play Angel Pagan HAS to be in the lineup leading off....the hottest guy going in June and July next to David Wright vs.overmatched poor Ruben Tejada and Jason Bay of all people batting second?!!!Amazing and not in a good way.Play Angel Pagan,possibly over last year the most improved player in baseball regarding ALL facets of the game.

Second straight San Francisco shutout....instead of the celebrated Freak Tim Lincecum it was Barry Zito,who though having a relatively decent year after some great years in Oakland really turned out in his first few years signing with San Francisco on of the worst free agent moves EVER.I know in his better days he had a killer curve and great off speed pitches,but what,two hits in eight innings?Nine strikeouts against Met batters(no surprise two each amongst David Wright,Jason Bay and Ike Davis)...David later had a hit against closer Jonathan Wilson and he was bound to cool off a little,Jason Bay admits he really can take a long time feeling comfortable in his swings,in the area of hitting mechanics he really is high maintenance because he doesn't have a regular groove in his mechanics even in his best years.Ike worries me,he seems to hit a key home run,and they are majestic,he has awesome power...but he is striking out frequently too,not getting into any good grooves at the plate for an extended period but almost literally real hit or miss.Home runs willcome with his power,he is too good a natural hitter to let the seductive lure of highlight reel home runs screw up his swing.Hit line drives gap to gap,that's what Ike does best foremost and he's not getting any calls by the umpires so he has to show more discipline.

Don't get me started on Jeff Francouer,either red hot or ice cold and he's like I mentioned the same player we got from Atlanta a year ago....so much promise,so much ability but too free swinging and impatient,rarely walking.I don't know if he'll ever live up to the promise of his first two seasons..,after hitting so well with the Mets last year til the end of the season,the last month with a torn ligament in his thumb I was so jazzed he had turned the corner,especially as he opened the season magnificently hitting everything his first two weeks.Then completely useless for a month,red hot again in June,and flatlining in July.We have WAY too many hot or cold players and they all seem to freeze up at the same time.Seven game stretch where the Mets have scored no more than three runs now,and even for a while before then a few big offensive outbursts but frequent quiet droughts...in fact the Mets seemed to have peaked at the end of June and they were limping into the All Star break,losing five out of seven before the break sandwiched around two great Johann Santana performances.We're in danger of falling out of contention as the Phillies rise back in,tough sumbitches they are.


Pelfrey has disappointed me,three straight outings not able to get through five innings,allowing mistakes to affect him mentally and his last start getting hiot pretty hard,12 hits in 4 innings.Not good signs.Love Dickey bouncing back wonderfully Thursday night,followed by Jonathan Niese last night...they both have superb mental toughness and outright Niese is showing in his full rookie year just what kind of talent he is.Bobby Parnell has been so good in the eighth inning role but Feliciano just looks so shaky.K-Rod is inconsistent.At the very least,he almost always makes you nervous and for a supposed pennant contender,that's not good.

Lastly as big as Rod Barajas was his first month,all those giddy home runs,goes to show he is still what he always was,a very streaky hitter with some nice power who handles pitchers well...but not someone you could get used to dependably holding up in the batting order.Josh Thole may not have anywhere near the power yet,but he is rapidly improving defensively and is a guy who gets the bat on the ball,doesn't strike out much.He would make a great second or eighth place hitter...Mets got to keep him and give him the opportunity next season to gain the starting catching position.He chokes up at the plate and looks like he knows what he's doing,and the Mets need with all the strikeout prone sluggers in their lineup to get consistency wherever they can.Josh may never have the sexiest power stats but there's a lot to be said for the dependable types like him being instrumental to the Mets success.

Oh Saucy Saucy Saucy what are we gonna do with those guys?
I dono what I can add to your hit-the-nail-on-the post, I got home late and started watching the game but gave up trying to stay awake cause it was so boring and went to bed. It’s sad cause when I watch the Cyclones I get pumped up watching those kids run the bases bring the runners home and score runs, and then I watch the Mets and….
I said it before and I’ll say it again we need to make a swap, bring the boys form Brooklyn to Flushing and send the boys from flushing to Brooklyn. Oh wait..no, that would ruin the Cyclones team and they just swept their opponent in the last three games, Mets players would just bring them down.

Once again an outstanding pitching start wasted on zero offense.
Jon Niese was outsatnading allowed just a run on six hits in seven innings.
But the Mets offense once again let him down, they are a mess no clutch hitting, not even any productive outs just so bush league it's embarrassing.

Barry Zito, who had been in a slump but that changed last night when he faced the Muts, er I mean Mets, allowing just two hits and striking out 10 in eight innings

It started for me when I saw that genius Manual’s new lineup, Tejada leading off?? Bay batting second??? has he lost his mind?? I get the whole Francour thing and I am glad to see that Manual kept his word to Frenchie, who went 0-for-3 but he did make a nifty running catch and doubled Zito off first, but he is beyond streaky now he is just become unrelaible and unproductive and I, like Saucy, am sick and tired of it.
Then we come to Bay batting second, he was totally wasted, normally in that spot he would have gotten plenty of good pitches to hit but Jason was completely lost. I would have prefered to have put Pagan at left and batting lead off resting Bay. I guess maybe manual batted Tejada first as to not confuse things batting the shortstop first till Jose comes back He even tried a Reyes in an attempoted steal but did not succed.

More Pelfrey craziness, Mike was scratched from his scheduled start on Saturday with a stiff neck he suffered on the flight to San Francisco. Apperently he slept funny on the plane and screwed up his neck. First his arm went dead then his neck, good grief what next, seriously are you kiddin me. So tonight instead we get Takahashi who will prolly go 4-5 innings and then the pen will come in to give us our third loss in this series, Pelf will pitch on Monday.

Jose Reyes was out of the lineup but he did take some vey good BP from both sides of the plate Kevin B watched him and said he looked pretty good. That’s ecouraging he said he felt good and it looks like we will see him on either Sunday or Monday.
This was a great chance for us to make up some ground cause the Braves and Phillies
both lost last night, but ….

Justin Turner was called up from Triple-A Buffalo which is a good thing cause I have seen him play many times and the kid can play short and second and he can plat them both very well. In 65 games for Buffalo and Norfolk, he is hitting ..282 with four home runs and 24 RBI.

I do feel for (I don’t get no respect)t Nick Evans who was sent down again. I hate to see that kid not continue to get playing time in the majors.

Well my arm ain’t dead and my neck’s not sore so I will pitch today.

Wasn't Cain the guy who caused David Wright's concussion last year?Boo,hiss....hopefully David is totally focused and he doesn't have to prove anything,but it would be nice if some hitter,any hitter got this club out of its collective July run scoring coma,and it gets contagious.Let's hope Takahashi cooperates....he's good spot starting but has been really inconsistent lately,roughed up once,then giving a solid performance.Hopefully the Mets will add another starter to the rotation in the vein of a Ted Lilly or Dan Haren,not aces but good quality second or third guys in the rotation...don't want to waste time though going after guys like Jarrod Washburn or Kevin Millwood who have high hit/inning pitch ratios and very unimpressive ERAs.Getting a veteran bat off the bench would also be nice.....one thing this club still needs are more at bat grinders,who make opposing pitchers work more,increasing the odds of making mistakes that the Mets can take advantage of.We have too many guys who strike out and aren't patient enough to walk or at least really battle an opposing pitcher.Too many easy innings for Met opponents lately...we don't want to see that continue.Mets fans have seen that quite enough over the past few years.

Saw something in the New York Post about Cory Vaughn,a blurb about how Mets and Yankee minor leaguers are doing.Cory apparently has nice power potential,hitting something like .274 with eight homers...sonny saw a ton of potential from the beginning with this guy,we could be hearing lots from him in the coming years!I feel bad for Nick,not getting a real shot this time but hopefully he will do well the resty of the season and warrant a callup by September.And I knew if anyone would have an idea about Justin Turner(I never heard of him before his callup last night to provide infield depth at second)as I was first hearing about him coming into the game last night,sonny would be all over it!

Well,we scored four runs!We don't catch a break....we hit a little better but Takahashi was awful.They were discussing how the first time batters see him he dominates but quidkly loses it the second and third time around the order....from around .200 first time around,.299 second and .400 third time around...ouch!He did a great job with five or six quality starts that helped jump start the Mets surge in June but he ain't getting it done now.He's best used as a spot starter or long relief guy.He was rocked in the second with Posey's three run blast a killer pushing it to 5-0.Really good things could be found though...Carlos Beltran looked great offensively even getting a triple(looked a bit slow on defense though...is it just rustiness or has he lost a step now he won't get back?)and scoring on Ike Davis' first of two impressive home runs tonight.

Ike has really crazy power...he's got a good build but isn't musclebound but damn he generates a ton of power.The first one into Mc Covey Cove was a shot....damn it looked great!He dead pulled that one but even more impressively drove his second one,a solo shot in the ninth inning,to dead center about 410 feet from home plate.Damn his slump has frustrated me but I get nervous when he hits home runs like this,that he starts to get lulled into killing the ball instead of being the line to line quality all around hitter he really is.But seeing him hit the second one straightaway center shows that he will take advantage of what the pitcher gives him,and not get pull conscious which would really hurt him.Sonny is the more technical analyst herebut they were mentioning a reason for Ike's recent slump(before tonight,of course)has to do with his long swing,a lot of movement up and down of his hands that does help generate with the immense power,but causes him difficulties especially with off speed stuff.I hope someone (Howard Johnson would be nice,hope he's noticing)will work to keep Ike in good habits,he's made so much progress and has shown he can potentially be a fine hitter against lefties as well.He can hit .300+ and I believe without a problem be a regular 30-45 home run guy but he has to be a gap to gap hitter with power first and foremost mentally,not solely a home run hitter.He doesn't have to try to knock em out,with his power naturally when he gets a hold of one,it will carry anywhere.

Chris Carter I love,another pinch single....ideally he's a DH in the American League,he can flat out hit but there's no spot in the Met defense for him on even a platoon basis.Plays his heart out but doesn't run or throw all that well.And no way he's taking playing time from Ike at first.

Love,Love,Love Josh Thole....he can probably get out of bed and come in and slap a hit somewhere.Another pinch hit tonight,he's 5/6 in that department.Rod Barajas and jet his improving defense and more importantly his quality hitting into the lineupLike I mentioned,we have WAY too many feast or famine players and Jason Bay,one of the offenders has to play and another,Jeff Francouer will sometimes be in the lineup.Jason has always been streaky but has always had lengthy bouts of production...don't know why he's such a mechanical mess now but it's hurting the lineup...fuck the home runs,just drive in runs by hitting in the clutch and Mets fans will have your back.Jeff Francouer disappoints me most of all...he's a fun,effervescent,positive high character guy who's a great defensive force in right field with a howitzer of an arm but his lack of patience,his inability to draw walks has made him the ultimate feast or famine guy.Like I've mentioned his first two weeks this season were incredible,hitting over .400....then he saw his average tumble over the next month to .200,got on a sizzling hot streak for another month getting his average to the low .280's and now since July has seen his average drop like a rock thirty points.He was so good when he came to the Mets from Atlanta last July but it apears he may never live up to the promise he showed in Atlanta his first two full seasons.

Today I read that among the pitchers the Mets are considering is Brett Myers,erratic but had a few really good years with the Phillies before a serious injury and now despite an unimpressive win/loss record pitching reasonably well for the Arizona Diamondbacks.Ted Lilly is also being considered,he would be very good in the role but is much more expensive than Brett Myers,and it isn't clear just how much financial flexibility the Mets have as some recent reports mention that they really took some serious losses because of that lowlife creep Bernie Madoff.That has been denied in the past by the Mets,but time is of the essence with three straight losses and five of seven losses just before thew All Star break...the Mets need to make their move for pitching before they slide out of pennant contention.Like I said,our Mets never fail to give their fans agita.

Matt Cain was very good tonight,giving up two runs but for most of the night being pretty much back in command after several previous rough outings.David Wright at least appeared to look at ease in his at bats,even getting a hit.Just so glad that a year from their last meeting,in which Cain beaned David causing a serious concussion,seeing David back to his All Star level of play and able to fully recover psychologically from that.

One last thing,it appears Jose Reyes looked terrific today taking batting practice left handed and feeling no pain from his pulled oblique muscle.He will likely be put back in the lineup Monday night in Arizona.Not a moment too soon,but the Mets really have to also learn to play with a little adversity again,and adjust in other ways to manufacture runs when Jose isn't around.The best way to do that is to have much more consistency from the guys they depend on most,or at least not everyone being ice cold at the same time.

Well kiddies there is not much to say about yesterdays game after those two so well written posts from Saucy. I always read his posts twice cause I know he will always give me something to think about.

What we continue to learn is that Hisanori Crapahashi is no starter; he is at best a relief pitcher. Last night was the third time in four starts where he looked more like a reliever than a starter for a major league team. We have all written about that fact time and time again here, but the Mets don’t seem to get it, insisting that his spot in the rotation is in no danger and in fact he will pitch in his next start in LA
Think about this Mets fans, yesterday was the third time in Takahashi’s last four starts that he allowed a half dozen runs. It was also the third time in four starts that he allowed two homers. His pitches continue to drift up when they should sink. Hitters basically just tee off on him, he just has no command.
The Mets never seem to talk about getting another starter in fact you don’t even have to read between the lines listing to both Omar and Manual they believe they can make it with what they have. Well…I agree…what you say? You agree?? Yup, but not with Takahashi I am talking about the talent we have in the minors just itching to come to flushing, guys with tremendous potential and talent far better than Takahashi. In particular I am referring to a kid you know I love and his name is Pat Misch. I know Pat rather well he is an up and coming star that needs to come to Flushing pronto. Remember how well he pitched for us in Flushing last September when he threw his first complete game shutout against the Florida Marlins, that by the way was also the Mets' first complete game shutout of the year. You may also recall Josh Thole was catching. This year in Buffalo Pat was chosen to play in the AAA All-Star game for the International League team, who won the game. Pat pitched two flawless innings allowing no hits and striking out four. He is currently 7-3 this season, his ERA has been about 3 most of the season and this month it went down to an impressive 1.80 and that was just last week. So Omar if you don’t want to acquire any new pitchers, fine, then give us Misch and get him up here NOW!

Saucy also mentioned Ike Davis who blasted out of his slump last night
He has been so critical of himself lately just beating himself up. I got to know Ike going back to his his time with the Cyclones and have spoken to him about his slump I told him he had to stop taking every unproductive at bat so badly he needs to pick his fights and remember what a power house he is capable of becoming, I hate to se him turn on himself the way he often does. He has been working hard with Ho Jo but I want him to spend some time with Keith Hernandez as well. Keith has talked about Ike’s problems at the plate and the things he says are dead on and I want Ike to listen to that. Keith often hangs at the clubhouse and I am told he is very approachable and loves to help the guys, but Keith will never, and I told Ike this, go up to a player and say let me help you or here is what I see you doing wrong, he heeds to be asked that’s all it takes and Keith will give most graciously of his time and expertise but ya gotta ask him. Ike has tremendous power as witnessed last night and man oh man did those at bats do him a world of good. His bating average had slipped to just .204 this month. In fact I was surprise by his lack of power against the Giants cause he has four homers and five walks in six games against them. But last night all that came back and so hopefully so is Ike.

Man, Josh Thole and Chris Carter are such a breath of fresh air aren’t they?
If only we could bench Bay and play Carter every day, he can play at right field although I guess I have to say with all his faults at the plate Bay is a pretty good outfielder, but Chris will get there just watch and see. The Mets will soon have to make a change in the catching cause I dono how much longer they can carry three of em but when the time comes if they have any baseball sense at all it wont be Thole who goes. He needs to stay not only for the obvious threat he is every time he come up to bat but his defensive skill as well, besides, who else would do as good a job catching Dickey?

I have to say besides Davis, Carter and Thole the thrill of the night came fro seeing Beltan continue to improve every day more and more like the Carlos we love and remember. Watching him run the bases just makes me so excited. That double he turned into a triple was awesome and so great to see.

So Santana should be able to avoid a sweep today cause that is what he does, let’s just hope our bats give him some support. Then with Reyes back on Monday in Arizona we might just salvage this road trip.

On a personal note thanks to Saucy and Syam for their best wished on my game yesterday and yes we did win as I dazzled em with my fastball My secondary pitches are coming along as well thanks in no small part to a couple of Cyclone pitchers who have been so generous with their time and helping me so much.
I so apprciate those guys who have been such supporters and great friends.

Knowing how big you were on RA Dickey,and rightly so,the Mets could do far worse than bring up Pat Misch,especially if they can't land a worthwhile starter.He did pitch well when given the chance last year for the Mets,and at least for the short term he may be good enough to fill in capably and ease the pressure regarding our starting depth.Takahashi is like I said a spot starter and long reliever but he doesn't have enough consistent quality in his pitches to warrant a regular starting role,as he is showing like you said, sonny...rough recently giving up six runs in three of his starts.

Now to today....luv ya,Johann Santana...maybe others throw harder than you do nowadays,but you have several top notch pitches to work with and when you get going you are a master out there!

Luv ya,David Wright....#15 and you are so much more comfortable out there I'll even forgive you getting eaten up by that grounder earlier in the game...hey,things happen!

Luv ya Jason Bay,three hits and scored the winning run,which I'll discuss after this...I loved when I read regarding that situation NOTHING was going to stop you from scoring.You've got class,you've got heart...just believe more in yourself when you're at the plate,let the game flow and come to you,and you'll be the clutch guy knocking in the key runs again.

Luv,luv,luv ya Ike DavisI know EVERY Met fan luvs ya right now and I know sonny's gotta be proud of ya....you're a rookie yes and you do press and get disgusted and throw the bat when you strike out but you have ridiculous power and three big hits today,including an earlier RBI single but nothing was as important as that two out bomb you hit to right center that just hit the top of the wall,narrowly missing a home run but resullted in an RBI double scoring Jason Bay(who started the rally after two outs with a single off of Wilson).In the post game you humbly said you didn't think you got enough of it for a home run,especially with that spacious area in right center but you darn tattooed it hard enough.Every big hitter will get into a rut on occasion but the talent you have,you'll give Mets fans an awful lot of great memories.You're a rookie now,imagine how scary you'll be in two or three years when you've put it all together!When you get going,you are so fun to watch...and on defense,you are already like a wise veteran out there so fundamentally sound.

No dessert for you though,Frankie Rodriguez.....you are SO lucky that Travis Ishikawa was ruled out on that close play at home!Freddy Sanchez grounding to Wright,who threw high to catcher Henry Blanco,applying the tag on Ishikawa(who had singled and knocked in two runs tieing the game) it appeared on a VERY close play.And that because of Jeff Francouer's cannon arm Ishikawa who had tied the game wouldn't score on Andres Torres' double.Another stellar effort by Johann Santana and you nearly,nearly,nearly tore the heart of the Mets out and could have psychologically cost them the season right then and there.At least you came back in the tenth and got the very tainted "W" but even then,you gave up a double and it didn't come too easy.If you were a cat Frankie,afraid you used up eight of your nine lives in getting out of it.And throwing 47 pitches in two innings,you're useless for at least tomorrow in Arizona.So I don't hate you but for now have a strong dislike!!!

Glad to hear sonny you did well in your game,great your minor league friends could be terrific pitching coaches...and I know as competitive and passionate about the game as you are,you soaked up and applied so much of what they told and taught you.

I don't know if its feasable but I brought up early in the season the possibility of Jub Mets fans going to a game sometime this season,after sonny's baseball league ends.Still hopeful but we'll see what happens.

Good grief what an 9th inning! K-Rod blew it Ike saved it.
Yup kiddies the Ike man is back, I told you not to worry about him…didn’t I?
As for K-Rod or limp Rod something is wrong with him, I have written about that before after watching him pretty much falling down after every pitch, but seriously somethins up, dono what but something.
Last night once again he lost his focus seemed irritated and angry with the situation and that’s ok AFTER the game.
Johan Santana was excellent for eight innings, so it begs the question what did that stunod manager Manual take him out of the game? Please don’t tell me K-Rod needs the work sick of that excuse Johan should have gone the 9 and speared us all that drama. in a MUST win situation he comes in and almost lost the game for mus. But then of course Ike would not have had the chance to save the day and that was worth the K-rod meltdown.

Of course we never should have been there in the first place cause that call at the plate was a big gift for the Mets from home plate ump Phil Cuzzi who called Ishikawa out when he was soooo safe. But we will take it right? Maybe he was trying to make up for all those several close ball/strike calls. All night, especially to the call to Ishikawa.
Cuzzi blew the calls and his cool yesterday big time. BUT he gave us the call we needed.
But wait it gets batter, Cuzzi later admitted to Giants manager Bruce Bochy that he blew the call, but couldn’t do anything about it. Oppsie, his bad.

A little scare for D Wright who took a lined a ball off of his knee.
David limped around a bit but shook it off and remained in the game, after the game David said his knee was swollen but he expects to be in the lineup today in Arizona.
So our two hero’s yesterday wee Wright for toughing it out after getting drilled in the knee and Ike Davis, who saved the game with a big RBI double in the tenth inning,
Thems my boys!!

As to a JUB meet my last game is Sept 4th and I head to Hawaii (I grew up there) with my dad again for a month so we will have to try and do a JUB Mets thing in between. I also have some stuff going on with the Cyclones around that time but we should be able to work something out.

Didn't see the game, but just the highlights on ESPN and MLB network. What a break for the Mets on the bad call at home plate, he looked safe from here to the moon to me. How many more times can we give away a Santana victory!?! He deserves much better! Thankful for the "W", but no thanks to KRod for his performance. Great that Ike hit his clutch double to knock in the winning run. On to AZ, let's see what kind of stuff we've got, we should win this series, if we expect to get into the playoffs. Sonny,just about all the guys you've promoted turn out to be very importasnt parts of the Mets current and future.I should have given Ike enough credit he could figure it for himself...he can make the necessary adjustments,like anyone he'll get into ruts but he has a lot of talent,pride and dedication so he'll never stop working,just like David!

Very frustrating game....when they're turning the late innings into sportstalk in the booth things can't be good.I don't know what to make of Mike Pelfrey....such a big part of keeping this club together,maybe the All Star dis kind of got to him.He can do it,Dan Warthen just has to get him feeling comfortablle again...his velocity as they were mentioning was good,they did mention he seemed to be moving away from getting grounders and moving along briskly through the lineup...trying to be more of a pure power guy but that's not him,he has to keep the ball down.Mike's got such a great sinker when he has all his pitches going like he did until the past month,it's hard to lift and drive.He's moving away from his strength...maybe sonny sees something really wrong with his mechanics,sure he would notice something.13-1 and so disheartening,only good thing is the Cards have beaten the Phillies tonight (yay,redbirds)and the Phillies have lost two in a row.But you want the Mets to take advantage when that happens,not get their collective asses wooped.

I was really hoping for a decent effort from Pelfrey, now it's back to the drawing board. Where do we go from here?? We definitlely need one more starter, now with Takahashi and Pelfrey huge question marks, it makes things that much tougher to figure. Ollie's in the wings, but in what capacity? Pat Mische is around, as Sonny has indicated. He has shown signs of being serviceable in the past and this year at AAA, but I'm not sure he's the answer. He could surprise me. In any case this team needs to get off its ass and start playing quality baseball, both pitching and hitting! Let's go Mets!!

The Daily News was pushing Jake Westbrook as a trade option.Pat Misch could do better and not waste nearly as much money.The Mets were great in June,but face it July has been pretty brutal.We've got to do better...and Mike Pelfrey has got to get his act together.Thankfully Dickey came out of nowhere and Niese has been outstanding but someone else has to step up,either from inside the organization like Misch,Pelfrey gets his act together,or someone outside via trade.But Westbrook isn't worth it,we need reliable,not filler.

Last night a bunch of the boys and I sat to watch what we thought would be a great game.
For the first time in over a year we had our full lineup in place ready to rock, and we were opposing a struggling team. But that ain’t exactly what happened instead of them rocking they got rocked. No offense to speak off but most troubling was Pelfrey who has regressed to the Pelf of old and not the dominant, confident pitcher he has become. His sinkers and splitters sucked ass and most disturbing he could not keep the ball down .
Oh, and he is back licking his hand again.
He threw few fastballs in fact one of the boys who pitches for the Cyclones said at least four times “why isn’t’ he using his fastball” Why indeed, especially when the few he did throw where all in the 92-93 MPH range.. He threw I think about 75 pitches and at least 40 of them were breaking pitches which the D’Backs gobbled up in the strike zone. GOBBELED EM UP!
Before the break Pelfrey’s fastball was mostly for strikes, what would happen is you could see
that the high four-seam fastball raised the batters eye level and his two-seamier could be counted on to draw a ground ball. I thought he had also improved his slider and curveball.
But Pelf’s money pitch was the two fastballs, but lately he has begun to lose control of them. I seems the only pitch he can throw for strikes is his off-speed stuff.
With the loss of his fastball command you could see a frustrated Barajas forced to call for breaking pitches. Another problem last night came against the left-handers, his four-seam fastball either lost the strike zone or drifted over the heart of the plate. And you saw how many Arizona batters spoiled his sinker, fouling off pitches and extending their at bats.

The less said about the pen the better I don’t know what is up with Fernando Nieve and Why is Feliciano pitching the righties??

I thought Jose Reyes and Luis Castillo looked pretty good especially in late innings having ok at bats and they both seemed a little rusty on the field but you would expect that.

Sorry you and the guys had to see such a crappy game by the Mets...tonight wasn't much better.Though RA Dickey pitched a pretty good seven innings,giving up three runs but as Josh Thole mentioned after the game RA was having all kinds of problems controlling his knuckler in the high desert Arizona climate.They worked it though and improvised and found a way,though.Love the way RA doesn't get frazzled...Josh works with him so well and RA deserved a better fate.Great to see Josh hit hs first major league homer tonight...and Angel Pagan brought em close with a nice shot of his own.But the rest of the offense was pathetic tonight...since the Mets started having problems before the All Star break they have batted .224,averaged 1.9 runs,struck out 68 times while walking 21,they have ben listless and getting Carlos Beltran back hasn't really helped.He's a step slower,less steady in his ability to run down balls and a couple of times has looked like he wasn't running all out his at bats.

Jason Bay cannot get on track,David Wright had an off night...Ike Davis so good for a couple of days probably feels the pressure to get things going he had a bad game...You got to put Thole in the lineup most nights because Rod Barajas has been useless since the end of May...the Mets need a heart transplant because to have been so good in June getting themselves into prime position for the stretch run,they are starting to throw it all away and are damn lucky the Phillies have gone south precipitously the last few games too.

Ollie Perez is reactivated...c'mon,if the Mets have to look to Ollie now for hope they are as good as toast.I'm so frustrated with the Mets right now it's like they are repeating the same old crap they've become infamous for these past three years.They are not playing with urgency and purpose at EXACTLY the time they need to,when the division could be thirs for the taking.If they fuck it up again this year,and miss the playoffs I want to hear NO excuses,Jerry Manuel and the doofus clown Omar Minaya are out the doior.This club needs to have leadership with more drive and passion...no more namby pamby excuse makers who haven't won a damn thing.If the Wilpons aren't willing to giver the fans of New York the kind of team with drive and heart New Yorkers crave,and which was the embodiment of the best Mets clubs....I hope they stop going to the games and show the Wilpons they won't be taken for granted anymore.Sonny is too young to really remember the gutsy Mets of the Dave Johnson era,but they won the World Series in 1986 with the kind of drive that they weren't going to lose,they battled and made some improbable comebacks in the playoffs...this club doesn't hold a candle to those guys....no more coddling,no more excuses,fucking earn your paychecks already!

I feel your pain suacy my friend

There good news last night is that SNY lost the feed and we did not have to watch Davis and Bay strike out in the first inning with the bases loaded. Ike I can forgive he has been outstanding for us, but Bay is just lost and I have zero faith in him ever turning it around. Nobody in the lineup is killing the Mets more than Bay, who is batting .189 (10-for-53) in July with only two extra-base hits. He has not homered in about three weeks which is about 60-65 at bats I am so tired of watching him swinging at sliders 10 feet out of the zone, and when he does get the bat on the ball it is usually/always weak and on the ground. I can not stand watching this guys at bats reminds me of the days when Schneider would come up and I would get that sinking feeling in ,my gut. Last night once again he went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and a double play against that D’ backs rookie, it’s just so bush league.

R.A. Dickey pitched seven strong innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits, but once again thanks to the Mets offense walked away with a loss. There was that one boo boo when he left a knuckler up and the D’Backs batter took advantage of it with a homer,

But wait Mets fans help is on the way The Mets activated Oliver Perez from the disabled list last night. Seriously, can you image with all of our problems we now have that fool back?
Make you wonder if it’s all about the money now and not about winning. Oliver Perez is owed $17 million and that’s why he is rejoining the Mets. I suppose the thought is maybe he can be rehabilitated enough that someone would trade for him and take on some of the salary. Someone in the Mets organization actually believes ..…wait for it..… that if they cut Ollie loose, and he signed with another team for, oh lets say the major league minimum salary, and he all of a sudden became productive, the Mets would regret it and maybe even be a little embarrassed. Yup kids a Mets spokesman actually said and believes that.
First of all lemme remind the Mets brass that they are already totally embarrassed from the initial three-year, $36 million contract, um, no, we haven’t forgotten that
So the Mets will pay Perez's remaining salary through 2011 whether he is on the roster or released. And if he remains on the team just what the Hell are we supposed to do with him?
Both Manual and Warthen agree that Perez is no different now than when he initially was placed on the disabled list back in nearly June, basically there was no discernible difference between the Perez who went on the DL and the Perez now. So far all Manual has said is that Ollie’s new role would be as a second lefty-on-lefty specialist, behind Pedro Feliciano. Specialist??? What will he specialize in?? making Mets fans nutz and blowing games??

Until this morning I was very concerned about who would have to go to make room for numb nutz Perez, the fear was that with the three catchers, Thole would be the guy to go. But this morning I received a very very happy text saying that it would be Justin Turner who would go back to AAA. I like Turner a lot but if it’s a choice between him and Thole or even Carter I wanted Turner to be the one we loose, unless there was some way to keep him and get rid of Bay
In case you are confused by the rooster situation, the Mets now have to carry a seven-man bullpen. That's because of the addition of Perez, so that means a five-man bench. The potential problem here is now that the Mets made the wise decision to keep three catchers and Chris Carter, there are only two reliable backup fielders available, Jeff Francoeur and Alex Cora. Which pretty much limits Manuel's maneuverability.
Here is he the question that makes me shiver and quake, if Hisanori Takahashi struggles again in his next start with the Dodgers, and who’s to say he won’t, would the Mets use Perez as a starting pitcher on the next fifth start Against the St. Louis Cardinals ? Kinda makes your skin crawl don’t it?

So now the losses are beginning to get to at least one veteran player, Alex Cora is said to be “mad as hell” Apparently last night after the game there was a lot of the usual joking around in the clubhouse which pissed him off and shouted out to several of the players, Cora yelled out an expletive in Spanish and raised his voice in the direction of Pelfrey and some the reporters he was speaking with as he left the clubhouse. He went on to say at the guys laughing and joking, “A little respect, please, they stuck it up our asses." I hare to hear of things like that but I feel what Cora is feeling and I normally would not go along with that kind of behavior cause it’s unprofessional but in this case I can’t really blame him when you consider The Mets have lost eight of their last 10 games and are just 2–13 in road series this season.

Sorry my post such a downer today bit I am just so fed up. I love my team I know they can do better it just hurts so much to watch them struggle like this.

I really hate to say this at this point in the season, there is quite a bit left to go, but if the Mets don't turn it around beginning today, I fear any chance of making the playoffs is gone. The Braves are playing good baseball, the Phils are struggling, but rumors abound that they're after Roy Oswalt, and may move Jason Werth to the Tampa Rays to offset some salary. They have a minor league outfielder named Brown, I think, who they want at the major league level ASAP. He would replace Werth in the lineup. The Mets just keep on floundering. I'm not in a happy mood concerning the Mets!
