New York Mets 2010

Watching a Mets game for 9 innings is painful enough these days but 14 was five hours of torture

Jon Niese was not terrible but not as good as he has been, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and a walk, striking out 6, in 5 innings. All three runs he gave up were on solo homers. I am concerned about Jonathans release point and arm angle which is causing his pitchers to go flat. If he does not correct that we could be in worse trouble than we already are. Warthan are you listing?
Bobby Parnell allowed no runs in his one inning but it was a scary inning that he just got himself out of and of course that’s important as well, very Santana like.
Then OMG who returned from the dead but Aaron Heilman back to torture us again but this time as the opposing pitcher. How come as a Met he never pitched as well as last night throwing two almost perfect innings with three strike outs. I was never that impressed by his fastball and it seems to have gotten worse but he has developed one heck of a changeup, where was that when he played for us.
Oliver Perez managed an inning and a third of scoreless ball, and luck not talent got him that. his command was barely ok but his cutter? did it even reach 85 MPH? Then you could see it in manuals eyes as he though I better get him outta there and Nieve finally relived him. I remember when Ollie came out I yelled “NO, NO, Nieve Nieve! Um, Manual, please to explain why Perez was used instead of Nieve. You choose to use your very worst pitcher instead of Nieve Did you notice that the Braves and Phillies had already lost (I did) and we had a shot at picking up some ground? Perez instead of Nieve? Dude please.
Speaking of Manual I dono if you guys heard Bobby O in the post game rip Manual saying his consistent re-ordering of the batting lineup throughout the season has contributed to the Mets offensive slump, Ojeda then went on to say that he thought Manuel demonstrated a counterproductive lack of confidence in his players. Bobby continued saying "So far everything that Jerry's done isn't working you need only to look at the record for proof of that and that Jerry has lost confidence in his players.
Generally speaking I always thought Bobby O was a hack and overly opinionated, but as wrong as it may have been to say those things publically who can argue that it need to be said. Like I said I am by no means a Bobby O fan, I even had a chance to meet him in Brooklyn once and passed, I think for the most part he is full of hot air, but not last night.

The Mets are looking to trade Jeff Francoeur, don’t be surprised if it happens in LA I would prefer to get rid of Bay but it may be time for one of them to go, Angel Pagan is having too good of a season to be removed from the lineup and needs to play everyday.

Good news from Buffalo the Mets and Buffalo Bisons have announced a two-year extension of their player development partnership through 2012. That is huge; you guys know how I feel about the Bisons who continue to develop players who are making outstanding contributions at the major-league level.

Next up Dodgers with Takahashi on the mound and may God have mercy on us all.

Hey, guys!

I haven't been around the board much this season...sorry about that! It's been a busy good summer. Well...not that good as a Phils fan...but anyhow...

the main reason I'm posting is...

I'm planning to see the Mets.

In Pittsburgh. August 20.

It's my birthday! And I've never been to PNC Park.

The Pirates play the Marlins the day before, too, so I'll probably go for that game too.

Hope you're all well and happy. What do you think Francoeur could get the Mets? I wouldn't expect much, even though I do like him and have him in a fantasy league. He's underperformed.

Well, last nite's debacle, with virtually no hitting, kind of clinches it for me that these Mets are going nowhere fast. To not be able to hit the Dbacks pitching in 14 innings is just pitiful. You can try to blame Jerry Manuel all you want, but just like earlier in the season, if the hitters don't hit, there's not much he can do. Bay has been abysmal, Franceour even worse in most stretches. I like Frenchy as a person and defensive player, but if he's not in a groove, he's horrible. Bay has had about 3 good weeks of hitting. As for what we might get for Franceour, I'm not expecting much, perhaps a retread pitcher for the bullpen, or a career minor leaguer, would probably depend on what salary stipulations might be worked out. I see nothing of major import helping this team in the near term. I'm still rooting for them big time, but don't see a lot of daylight this season. I hope I'm proven wrong, so Let's go Mets!

Sonny,syam...you're both great Mets fans with different styles but the passion and sadness show in both your posts.I'm feeling the same way...Takahashi does really well tonight and how is he rewarded?A confused, flailing offense that has too many strikeouts(Davis is really getting bad,and David Wright has to get back to what worked for him in June so well)What the fuck is wrong with Jason Bay?He says he feels lost at the plate???!The guy replaced Manny Ramirez and put up a ton of clutch hits for Boston his year and a half there. He can deal with pressure...but this place sucks the life out of everyone.NOBODY is held accountable, nobody knows how to start leading the way of this sewage...this Minaya Mets"What,me worry"?mentality. This road trip is ome of the lowest points in recent memory...the playoffs are there for the taking but we are in serious danger of eliminating ourselves from any playoff opportunity because we have a psychologically screwed up and brittle team....even Josh Thole looked lost tonight at the plate, this has to stop.I watched the Yankees earlier, and say what you want about them, when they're clicking, they are so fun to watch...then I see my beloved Mets just wave helplessly looking for something to grab hold onto and look so pathetic...it won't matter if we land eany top quality starter,we've still got to score runs. The Mets fan needs something to look forward to and ASAP.Group hug for all our Mets fans, especially those die hards here in this thread!(group)

If I were Jerry Manuel in the closed door snoozer of a meeting they apparently held,I would have gotten in their faces and said(of course keeping it within the clubhouse)"It's not if you win or lose, but make your damndest effort to play the game hard and right....failure isn't something to be ashamed of.It makes getting to the goal so much the sweeter because you learned from it and turned it around. You worked through adversity and damned earned the rewards. But failure in the sense of unending mediocrity, cluelessness, and inability to master the fundamental essentials of how to put yourselves in a position to win...that's something to be ashamed of,failure without meaning is unforgiveable if you're a true professional."

Another Mets game another shutout,

We had only five hits and one walk, and got just one runner got beyond first base. In case our keeping score, The Mets have scored just one run in their last 20 innings or 13 straight games without scoring more than four runs They aren't hitting, scoring an average of three runs in 12 straight games, ONE RUN IN LAST 20 INNINGS!!!
This time around we haven’t hit the skids or a slump, we have completely dissipated. The Mets have now gone, and have not even scored that many in its current four-game losing streak. We have lost 14 of 20, and have dropped to only three games over .500.
Hisanori Takahashi was terrific going seven innings, two runs three hits. But the Mets bats wee no match for Dodgers pitcher Hiroki Kuroda, or pretty much any pitcher lately.
We have been screaming for another starter but seriously, at this point with the offense the way it is does it even matter anymore? Our pitching is not the problem here we all know that now
So who’s to blame, well I am no fan of Manual never really was, I only tolerate him cause the Mets players all seem to love the guy. But I think you have to point a finger more at Minaya, some of his mistakes (some call them gambles) From Castillo to Perez to Bay have been a major factor here.
Once again the clock is ticking on Manual and Minaya although many believe Omar's job is safe.
Given a choice I would dump Omar and hang on to Jerry a bit longer but not too long. I agre with saucy that it is time for Jerry to start getting tough with those guys.I still wanna see Wally Backman take over and maybe Velentine in ‘11
We have had our share of collapses, and mid-season disappointments. But this time our hopes are disappearing or maybe I should say dissolving before our eyes as our team goes from contender in April to pretender now.

I have spoken to a lot of people about the Francour trade rumors, now I usually don’t pay much attention to those kinds of things but the talk ahs been intense. Still, a lot of the guys I spoke with are not buying into it, they believe Frenchie will survive. Even though he has been making it difficult for Manuel to give him any playing time, he has had good streaks and he’s an awesome outfielder and a leader in the clubhouse, one of the good guys. But the thing is can the Mets keep him in the lineup just because he’s a good guy…
The other thing is ya have to wonder if he could be traded to many places where he would start at this point. I just wish he would be more patient (as he was last night) at the plate, how many times have we watched him and his lack of patience knock him out of his at bats by the second or third pitch in a sequence because he swings at everything. He needs to find his discipline.
So it goes back to my original thought, will another starter help us if our bats are in a comma.
And if that is the Mets plan with Jeff would anyone take him as part of a trade for a starter? With the deadline just around the corner we will know soon. But if our offense doesn’t wake up another starter will just be us spiting in the wind.

You know I love my D Wright stories and with all the Mets shit we have to talk about theses days let me share something sweet.
During the Giants series David was, as he put it honored, to be in the presence of one of the greatest players in baseball history, Willie Mays. The two have have tremendous admiration for each other. Anyways this particular day Mays was talking about Wright to a couple of the Giants people and said what a special player he thought David was. He then said that he wanted to see David and asked if Wright could come to the Giants’ clubhouse to talk a little baseball before the game.
Well when David got that message he jumped all over it, saying it would be just an honor to shake Willies hand, and that the idea that Mays actually know who he was, and then to have a conversation with him about baseball, that was a very special privilege
David and Willie sat around after the game for about half an hour talking baseball, David later said how “cool” it was to just shut the door and talk baseball with Willie
Willie asked David if he would help him at a charity event in Virginia which is close to where David grew up and family lives, of course David said yes and added “Who says no to Willie Mays?

In a surprising move to me the Mets designated Fernando Nieve for assignment. He was immediately removed from the 40-man roster and the Mets have 10 days to trade or release Nieve, who can be assigned to the Minors if he clears waivers. You may recall he was signed to a one-year deal.
So why did the Mets do this? Well that’s what I wanna know, just what is up with that and what are the Mets planning…stay tuned. Meantime they will call up Manny Acosta today.

Great story about David meeting Willie, reading about the great respect Willie has for Dave as a person and player.Interesting hearing about Fernando Nieve...don't think the Mets should have necessarily given up on him,he was overused then struggled but wasn't the worst of the Mets problems by a longshot

The problem with keeping Frenchy is they have to keep Jason Bay for the 66 mil, four year investment they made in him.I do think Carlos Beltran no matter how well he does should not be re-signed by the Mets after his contract ends after next year...not his fault about his knee but he appears to have lost some defensively.Angel Pagan should be in centerfield, really even now.

I did not even mention Bay cause, as you wrote, it's the big bucks that will keep him here. Sorta sucks when you know it's more about the money than making the right decisions for the purpose of winning.
It's the same reason we still have Perez..always has been that way...always will.
I am no fool, I get it i just don't like it.

As for Beltran he sure looks shaky out there since his return, that ball he lost the other day would have ben caught by him in the past and for sure Angel would have caught it. Too much left to right ground for him to cover with that brace on, he might be better suited for right field but doubt that would ever happen.

Meantime Frenchie has respond to his trad rumors by saying he would not mind being traded if his playing time will continue to be limited with the Mets.
He said "You’ve got to ask yourself, ‘If I’m playing once a week, how good am I going to be anyway?’ because I’ve never done that, Some people have done that. I’m just going to show up every day and be ready to play and see what happens." He also said that he did not request a trade, however he did call it "the next logical step."

I knew you would appreciate the Wright story saucy :D

Of course I appreciate the Wright story, sonny!I also think Francouer isn't demanding a trade as much as clarification of roles. He would never say "play me or trade" me...too much a team guy and will always give his all when he's in the lineup.Sad thing though,sonny....mistakes like Perez and Bay might well be just keep putting the Mets in a reallly tough bind.I just want to see someone helping getting this team back on track...another lost season is unacceptable for Mets fans who have already seen three straight seasons gop down the tubes....two by collapse and underperforming, one by injuries too unsustainable to contend with.

I know sonny and syam will have very interesting perspectives on last night's Mets 6-1 victory over the Dodgers.Just have to say very happy with Santana continuing to be the ace he prides himself to be righting the ship at least for one night.Happy Jason Bay contributed so much on offense with the key hit,a bases clearing double, and made a terrific catch on a drive to left running into the padded wall, fortunately only a bit dazed but not hurt as his later double showed. Two great sliding catches by Angel Pagan in right, who also batted for the first time in the third slot and one sliding gem by Carlos Beltran, looking a lot more comfortable and much less hesitant in center after showing a lot of early rust, indecisiveness and reduced range so far in coming back from the knee procedure.

Yup saucy it was a nice crisp game last night with outstanding defense from Bay Pagan and Beltran the kind of defense that just makes me smile and make goose bumps. Jason Bay had an awesome night; he has made adjustments on his swing and seemed to be recognizing the pitchers better and it paid off. His defense was just spectacular slamming into that fence on that awesome play, I mean come on… I guess that was a result of Jason’s hockey mentality, tough dude. Pagan was on fire out there what an outfielder that kid is, and yesterday I wrote that Beltran may be a little creaky out there, well kids… he’s baaaaaack

Santana continued to get he job dome with just a run on five hits in seven innings.

I like that new lineup. Castillo is right where he belongs and moving Bay with Pagan batting third worked very well. Maybe Jerry finally hit on the right combination we will see. Speaking of Jerry I was proud to see him go after the first base umpire after that God awful call against Castillo who was clearly safe. Generally you hate to see the manager thrown out of a game especially now when we need to win a game so badly, but it had to be done and had Jerry just wanted to make his case he could have done that but he choose to yell and that’s what got him tossed. But don’t think for a second it was Jauss managing that game, Manual may not have been in the dugout but it had his hands all over that game. What Manual did was important I want to see more attention paid to those bad calls and continue to call umpires on them, make a lot of noise embarrass them and if a manager or player gets thrown out from time to time so be it. This is out of control and must be addressed.

I loved when Dodgers pitcher Padilla tried that 55 MPH slow curve out on Davis and Ike in his best Tony Soprano voice said “ here’s your slow curve right here”, and hit one out of the Park :p

Good game even K-Rod the terrible managed a 1-2-3 inning.

This afternoon will be very important for Pelfrey; he has got to get it together. Manuel and Warthen have been working with Pelf on his fastball efficiency, a pitch he has not been throwing enough. Mike needs to be aggressive in the strike zone early, needs to get the back the confidence in that fastball, get it over the plate early and get em to swinging the bat early.
Big date tonght and I will miss the game bit the DVR will be cranking. :D

Yesterday, John Maine underwent arthroscopic surgery to clean out scar tissue from his right shoulder, and will miss the remainder of this season.

Often times Keith Hernandez will say something that can be turned into something else
but last night it was Gary Cohen who when the Dodger’s pitchers bat broke and it splintered into pieces,
said “Pitchers just don’t get good wood”....Oh Gary ;)

On the last comment of your post sonny, you're just a naughty boy sometimes!;)

Our boys apparently can't stand prosperity, hmm?Oy,it's just SO frustrating. And as great as David Wright is,and we all love the guy and he works his tail off and really cares about playing the game the right way,but someone has to work with him on his approach at the plate...he's striking out a ton again lately(twice today)and he isn't playing offensively as the All Star he was returning to in June and up to the All Star break.Bay is starting to turn the corner,we don't need to see David psyching himself into a deep freeze of his own.Strikeouts are the worst kinds of outs to make because when you put the ball in play, you still have a chance to get on or move runners...David has to find a way of cuting back to his previous levels, between 110-120 a season...last year he jumped to 140 in fewer at bats, this year he's back on track for 200 again.Too many wasted at bats if you don't put the ball in play.

Heard about Maine's surgery,at least they found out there WAS actually a problem and took care of it.Hopefully he can still come back strong next year, either with the Mets or more likely eventually winding up elsewhere.

Jerry,:##:you tempted fate sending Ollie Perez back out there another inning....he did the job getting the Mets out of trouble in the 12th,and I know only K-Rod was left as a relief option...but you should have declared victory while you could and gotten Ollie out of there to open the 13th....it was so deflating seeing Loney's liner heading for the seats I couldn't watch anymore.

Well, yesterday at least was nice. And Pelfrey lasted five innings, wasn't really bad at all save the fact his error cost him early in the game. But aagain, last night aside, showed that good pitching isn't enough with this club, you gotta be able to manufacture timely runs and this club is back to stalling for long stretches and getting NOTHING going.I'm not gonna get angry anymore as the Mets are going to be who they are...its up to the owners and management and the coaches and especially the players to get the most out of their ability. But it sure is sad and frustrating,as sonny and syam can attest.:(

This will be short but I dono how sweet. I have not yet seen last nights game it’s still on my DVR waitin for me. Prolly won’t watch it, why should I, nothing much to see although I am told Pelfrey was much better I should watch to see that at least.
Then there’s the Perez thing and I KNOW I don’t wanna see that or another walk off loss.

Went for my run this morning, stopped at Starbucks, ran into a buddy who asked, WTF is up with your team? Wish I could tell you dude I replied, beats the shit outta me.

Off to play a little golf try and get the Mets off my mind for a while.

Saucy I am glad you seemed to enjoy me ending to my post yesterday, truth be told as a pitcher myself I can tell you it ain’t true what Gary said about pitchers and wood ;)

Rained all over my ass on the Golf course, the skies just opened up and poured. I could not play long anyways
I am heading to Brooklyn to watch the Cyclones a team that actually hits the ball and scores runs.
Looks like the rain will not factor and will let em play.

Tuesday is the Cyclones Charity Golf dinner, which I play in every year, this time Ron Darling and Wally Backman will be there. I am hoping to meet up with Ron which will be awesome. It should be a great day of Golf followed by Dinner. The Cyclones form the beginning has been involved with a lot of programs to help the community.

Check out Ike's bobblehead, it shows him going over the fence o catch a ball
which has become his trademark play, cute huh?

Sorry to hear your golfing was ruined by the thunderstorms today, sonny.LOVE the Ike bobblehead....how cute the tribute to his acrobatic over the rail catches!:DHave a great time at the Cyclone's golf event....hope you can meet Ron and I know you'll have a blast as always around the Cyclones!..|

The less said about the Mets today the better.I just give up!:##:

Thanks Saucy, Ike is beloved by the Cyclones as one their best sucess stories. After an hour rain delay we got the game in but lost by a run, but hey, ay least we scored 6 runs unlike that other team. Cory Vaughn had a bad night and went 0-5. The Mets game had already ended in another shutout, I could not resist telling Cory, “Dude, 0-5, your ready for Flushing playing like a Met tonight”
He is soo gonna kick my butt on the golf course tomorrow. ;)

So it’s time to get serious, the situation with the Mets has gotten very bad.
Something major has got to happen over the next few days and although I don’t expect Omar to get the ax Manual is back on the chopping block for sure. But I have to wonder if the problem is more with HO JO. Our bats are the biggest problem, not pitching not defense. So as the pitching instructor how safe is his job? I was surprised after ’08 and ’09 Ho Jo was back in ‘10 ya have to think now his days are numbered. The Phillies just fired their hitting coach Milt Thompson and already there has been improvement they’ve scored 20 runs in their first three games under him. Could Howard, who is untenable now, be next? This time after that hideous road trip something is gonna give and probably today, it has to. The coaching staff could very well be where the iron will strike today or tomorrow, not only HO Jo but Dan Warthen could be out as well, even though the pitching has been good I have to wonder about Dan as well, someone has to take the fall for Pelfrey and Perez

Change is a must and it has to come immediately, there's still plenty of baseball to be played, with 64 games remaining in the season. I did a little checking this morning and found that 35 of those games are against teams that are under .500, in fact 24 of those games are against teams that are 10 games under .500, and finally 17 of those 35 games are at home.

If we can regroup and start to play decent ball again we can make up some ground cause we are playing 10 more games against the Braves, in addition many believe the Braves are due to slow down soon, I mean come, Can Atlanta really continue pitching the way they are, and clutch hitting the way they are.? So can the Mets recover, of course they can. They will start hitting, scoring, and winning. Ya just gotta believe

Forget the trade deadline yes I want another starter but more than that I want change in the guys running and coaching my team. That’s how we will recover.
The Mets can do this but first HoJo needs to go and Jerry Manuel right behind him taking Omar along for that ride as well. Big changes sure but it has to be done enough is enough.

Wally Backman pack your bags we need you in Flushing.

John Maine who had arthroscopic surgery Friday is not expected to return. The Mets are not expected to tender him a contract for next year.

It's great seeing the future stars of the Mets growing up,coming out of Brooklyn and hopefully we'll see Cory and others pretty soon join Ike in CitiField.Ike's personality is a big reason why he's so loved, really thought the bobblehead was a sweet, adorable tribute!haven't had the pleasure so far but glad that you've made yourself a regular booster for the Cyclones, sonny. That was a low blow of course you gave Cory!;)

Speaking of Cory,I'm sure I'm sure Abs will run his adorableness in this forum at least once as his Cards are setting foot in CitiField tomorrow night.I'm so glad the Cards beat the Cubbies yesterday, even if it took an extra innings effort...you know he despises the Cubs so much and the Cards being swept by the Cubbies just will not do!But I'm hoping the Mets can reclaim that magic at home and the Cards can revert to winning ways AFTER they visit us!;)

Yep,there has to be some kind of change, some accountability because things are just not working at all right now on offense.Warthen I would hold off on now,I thinlk Pelf realized he got into bad habits moving away from emphasizing his hard sinker and using his secondary pitches to compliment them...he appears to be in a better frame of thinking and ready to pitch much more like the stud he was up to mid June.Saturday though it would have been great to go longer he showed a lot of improvement, though he made a couple of mistakes.RA Dickey pitched very well again yesterday,no runs in five and two thirds innings.Niese is solid,Johann is again an ace...I don't think Warthen should be let go if its only based on the meritS.

Ho Jo,unfortunately though we love him, great Met,winning Met from those great 80's teams it just isn't working offensively.I know David Wright loves him but the Mets are a mess mechanically, especially David right now working up a ton of strikeouts again after looking like the All Star he was for June.Francouer....he was red hot opening the season, then ice cold, then red hot for a month, and now is back to the frustrating puzzle he was when the Mets acquired him from Atlanta.I don't have to go into how flat Jason Bay has been been, how difficult it's beren to get him psychologically going into a good groove. Rod Barajas, recent home run excepted, has been a non performer nearly two months now.HoJo isn't getting it done...really Jerry and/or Omar should be leading the parade out of New York but don't expect that at this time either.

I want to have your faith in the guys...just seen too many teases and fuck ups to be really hopeful though you're right...we still have time and the schedule is pretty favorable but only if our boys take advantage of it,play again like June.I don't know if getting a starter will be of much help right now, nice as solidifying the rotation would be if you can't score at all for him. We'll just have to see if the Mets could make some kind of move that would be a jolt to the underperformers because the Mets are really not a bad club.11-19 in one run games, they're often in it when they lose but don't make their own breaks...making their own breaks, finding ways to win are what playoff teams do.The Mets have yet to show on a sustained basis for a long time.Wally Backman would be perfect for this club....not a taskmaster but passionate,no nonsense guy that if you don't go through walls for you don't deserve to wear a Mets uniform.I just don't know Omar is capable of making that risk...his sense of urgency is nonexistent, his clueless obliviousness that something is wrong with the culture on this team is embarassing. In Fact,he represents a perfect example of the Mets culture and if he doesn't have that fire in him, can't see him putting in someone that does.

Well, I did not go into a witness protection program, just out of town for a few days to NC, where it was 102 F, and a heat index of 112. Horrifically hot! Unlike the Mets. Saw some highlights of the great defensive plays from Friday nite, saw the Loney walkoff Sat live on Fox, screamed in agony, and saw the boxscore of zeros in today's paper. Unbelievalbly inept at the plate is all I can say. I think some bodies will be moved this week, probably coaches and players alike, cannot keep the status quo! I'm even at a loss of where to begin. I believe that the only people to really blame are the hitters, however, that is probably not where the axe will fall.

PS, Nice story of Wright and Mays!!

Quite day yesterday no firings or changes as the Mets continue to try and figure out what their next move should be. Kevin B says the Mets are not planning to fire any coaches, I have spoken to a lot of guys and many agree that firing HoJo would be nothing more than using him as a scapegoat to appease the fans, and that he I not the reason the bats are cold. Kevin also said that HoJo does what all hitting coaches do. He goes over video and scouting reports of pitchers with his hitters and gives them a plan to take to the plate on a daily basis.
So what are you saying Kev? You can bring a horse to water but…..

So if they don’t fire any coaches than just what should they do. I have heard interesting arguments that one good way to shake up the team and show the brass means business and to grow a pair and fire Ollie Perez, let the players know you really do want to win. Having Perez on the roster tells them exactly the opposite, that you're letting finances dictate decision-making and lose ballgames for you at a time you can least afford it.

I am dizzy from all the text and phone calls I get all day long about this Mets mess, today I am taking the day off from all of that and play some golf. They are gonna do what they are gonna do what that is I dono but something ha better get done NOW.

Rod Barajas has been put on the 15-day disabled list with a mild left oblique strain.
Barajas will be replaced on the roster with Mike Hessman out off Buffalo snd will be will be available tonight.

Glad to see your back with us syam btw, hope your little vacation went better than our Mets road trip to hell...sheesh!

Relax sonny, enjoy some golf and get your mind clear after all this whirlwind around the Mets.Kevin B is right in a way,I've heard others say it too that Howard Johnson isn't striking out or swinging at bad pitches or not getting on base but it is the job of the hitting coach to get the best out of the offense, work with players and if the players aren't responding,he's not getting through. He may have the best of intentions,be the hardest worker, have the most innovative and creative ideas but you can't just fire the players either.
If it was just a slump in an ordinary year, you don't just go out and make change for changes sake. You wait til the end of the season and evaluate what needs to be done,if another irection is required. This, however is after two years of collapse and a wasted year of injuries.Met fans have been patient enough...three and a half years of promises, self delusion, and an atmosphere of non urgency and excusemaking that starts at the top with the Wilpons and especially Omar Minaya.Maybe nothing will work, maybe this team doesn't have it collectively in them to ever be anything but underachieving but this is not just a horrible road trip but something that is symptomatic of a deeper problem with the Mets and some accountability has to take place...no more complacency,no more "we have a good team,we'll get out of it" head in the sand nonsense.

It's not easy being a Mets fan, when you can't have confidence someone in the hierarchy is thinking long term and revising things towards a winning, competitive culture.
