I can see just why sonny and NA are such Cyclones devotees...God if only the Mets could make CitiField rock like that!Glad it was such a great game,and I'm sure sonny will give us more great details as well...the kid Ceciliani I've seen mentioned favorably in comparison with Jacoby Ellsbury,better glove.That would be great:D...and sonny can't get enough of Cory Vaughn,and the skills suggest he may be a more athletic version of his dad Greg Vaughn,which wouldn't be bad at all!Several others get high marks too,so let's hope for a rapid rise in the Mets system for these guys.

Yep,Misch isn't as sharp this time around,sonny.Not terrible,he's competive but he's not pitching to his effectiveness,he needs to have good command and get ground ball outs to really be the tough competitor he is.Just not executing nearly as well this time around at CitiField but by no means should people be down on him.Interesting theory about RA Dickey sonny poses....he does tend to have problems controlling the knuckleball where weather or field conditions aren't ideal but the Mets bailed him out for once. Tuesday,the way he's pitched so well most of the time he deserves to get some help on a rare shaky night.
Tonight's 11-4 loss was pretty rough.We know the Mets are basically out of it,but they owe it to themselves and especially the fans to end the season on a positive note....Jon Niese going pretty well overall when the wheels came off in the sixth and he just lost it quick.He'll learn,not holding the seven runs scored against him...things happen.But it was frustrating to watch the Marlins light him up so quick like that,and later extend the lead to blowout proportions..whereas Wednesday the Mets still were in a position to win the game in the end.These blowout,though they don't happen often with our pitching being generally very reliable most stretches,just suck the life out of the place.Bad enough we lose so many tight games,but this was pretty miserable.

Another "what else could go wrong?"moment as Jose Reyes who has been everything he can be generating the offense tweaked his oblique pull though it appears less seriously than what happened in Puerto Rico and for now is listed as day to day.

David Wright is red hot again....booming three run homer to left,a couple of hits tonight and he looks so much better...sonny,I agree...whatever David wants to say as long as he gets back on track.;)Just he's been so peak and valley when he has been such a consistent performer in those big years 2005-2008,more power than last year but he's just so maddeningly up and down and he's got to work on that the rest of the year and going forward.Defense tonight was a little spotty,though...couple of catchable balls he just didn't get to or flubbed,though the first that got by him after Elmer Dessens came in,was well placed just out of his reach.

Ike's looking better too as sonny mentioned,who didn't get a kick out of seeing him bust it for a triple?;)Ike does have to learn to make adjustments and deal with unfavorable calls,but I'm sure he'll use his rookie season as a learning experience going into the offseason.


Parnell as a closer this year,since K-Rod will likely miss the rest of the season because of his idiocy,sounds intriguing.At times his fastball is scary,102 and coming right at ya!:eek:Though he has to command it better,it tends to straighten out and when the velocity is not quite there,he gets pegged hard or just can't control it.Definitely still a raw unpolished gem but remains to be szeen how valuable he really is.

Poor Fernando Martinez,kid can't stay healthy.It appeared his latest go round with the Mets he definitely has matured,has the right approach but even though he's only on the 7 day disabled list at Buffalo,don't know what we can expect of him.Such a great prospect but until he gets a handle on staying healthy he may never live up to his promise.Though Jennry Mejia looks good now...and sonny or NA any idea about the astatus of Met's first round signee,the local kid Matt Harvey who went to North Carolina?Read he's a bull with a very hard sinker like Pelfrey but was one of those draft picks who signed I believe pretty much last minute.What's his progress and how will he be looked at going into next year,how far away might he be?
 
Disappointing loss last nite, expected a better outcome with Niese pitching. He was doing fairly well, when as Saucy said, the wheels came off rather quickly. Perhaps the total innings for this year are beginning to take its toll. Will have to wait and see how he fares in his next start. A couple of bleeders in that loooonng sixth inning certainly didn't help matters. The offense failed to capitalize on all the base runners they had last nite, too. Leadoff runners in about 5 straight innings and nothing to show for it. Perhaps the Astros will be there for the taking after they swept the Phils in 4 in Philly. Not seeing much in Tejada's offense these days. Not expecting him to be a Miguel Tejada, but a hit now and then would be nice. His defense is good enough, although he had a questionable throw last nite. He should have been called safe at first in the fouth? last nite, which would have scored a run and continued the inning, and who knows what the outcome would have been. That ump at first, Miller, sucked big time on a few calls with both teams being screwed. Well, lets' see what we can do vs the Astros. Lets go Mets!!
 
I dono about you NA but am still sore after all that yelling last night with that awesome win.
Our boys would not lie down and loose with Cherry’s homer (his second in two nights) in the ninth and Ceciliani's smoking walk off homer in the 10th. You should know that Darrell now leads the league in batting average at .350, he has had 53 runs, and wait there’s more, 10 triples. I have a special place in my heart for Vaughn so his steal meant a lot to me as well it was his 11th of the season.
But the night belonged to Darrell and Billy I thought my dad on Staten Island could have heard the noise we made when Billy tied he game. How about the reception the Cyclones gave Darrell, I would have loved to have been in that pile of happy ball players. He is lucky to have gotten out of that alive. That had to be one of the highlights of his life. Can you believe the noise in that crowd? Was that not amazing??

So tonight will have to be something special to beat what happened last night what a blast.
Glad you got that jersey NA I told you it was cool, I have two of em now to complement my six I Like Ike shirts. It was a chilly morning today so I proudly wore t for my run. Get there early tonight cause we will be honoring Cyclone supporter Ron Darling with his own bobble head doll. Ron has been so supportive of the Cyclone charities thru his Ron Darling Foundation, which raises awareness and funds in the fight against Juvenile Diabetes, an illness that struck Cory Vaughn; we Ron for that
Of course he and Wally go back to the ole days and have a great history. In case anyone does not know much about Darling, he was an awesome pitcher who played with the Mets 1983-1991. I was too young to have appreciated him but you can see him pitch from time to time on SNY classics. I also have my uncle and dad who tell me stories especially about the ’86 team, Ron was 15-6 that season, and his ERA was around 2.80.

Cyclones are 41-21 with 24-6 at home and our magic number is now three.

The second best part of being at the Cyclones game last night was not having to suffer thru the Mets loss. I did not even record the game so all I know is what my dad told me, When ever I go to Cyclone games rather than drive back home to Long Island I head back to Staten Island to crash at my parents house. Of course there was a lot of celebrating after last nights game but it was not a late night (Wally would never permit that) so dad was still up he told me about the Mets loss. Dad told met that Jon Niese had a strong start, but then lost his command, seven of the nine base runners allowed by Niese scored?? So how many Marlin unanswered runs was that?? Plus the Mets left like a dozen men on base.
I asked why Manual left Niese in to cause all that damage and dad rolled his eyes and said “go ask Jerry”
Dad also told me about that outstanding catch Francoeur made, wish I had seen that.
It was soon after that mom came down and started turning off lights saying
“you boys should be in bed”…yes mommy

So our Mets are below .500 again, and continue to blow opportunities to make ground, the Phillies where swept by the Astros in four games, a lost chance for the Mets

Jenrry Mejia went seven innings and allowed just three hits and striking out four for the win. It was the second strong start in a row for Mejia, who has 12 strikeouts in his last 14 innings. His off speed pitches have been off the chart, and he has been maintaining his velocity deep into his game, reports are that his velocity is still in the low to mid 90s by the seventh inning.
It just makes me think about what Bisons hitting coach Ricky Bones told me last week and that is that Mejia may be recalled when rosters expand next week, I have to think with Misch pitching less than as well as expected we could see Mejia be in the rotation with Misch going to the pen. If that happens I will call Pat and beg him not to get to close to Ollie in there, he might catch something.

Syam I have been thinking the same thing abut Tejada it’s just more of the Mets curse I wrote about yesterday with the minor kids who come up and fall on their asses after playing so well in AAA His seond base skills have been stellar but the boy can’t hit a lick, It just adds salt to the wound for Castillo who has to be thinking why is that kid getting so much paying time instead of him.

Saucy I wrote about Matt Harvey here a week or so ago, nothing new about when we might see him, of course I will look into that again.

Am I the only one who thinks Reyes is done for 2010?
 
Didn't see last nite's game, but it appears Pelfrey did another fine job, with 8 solid shutout innings, and the offense did just enough to not let it get away, only 3 hits, OY!! Tonight Johan pitches, perhaps the offense is saving it up for him, he certainly deserves some damn run support! I see Tejada had a hit last nite. I'm certainly not giving up on him, he is still very young, so hoping he and Hojo are working so he can adjust to whatever the pitchers are doing to get him out. Would love to see the Mets finish strong offensively, there's no track record this year of it happening, but who knows? Lets go Mets!!
 
Syam I have not been watching any Mets games I have been busy with he Cyclones and my own team. I recorded yesterdays game, watched some of it this morning and it was another offensive let down for Santana. I think they went1-for-10 with runners in scoring position, DWright had the only hit.
I have to wonder how Santana can/will continue to take theses losses, although he got off to a bad start last night, giving up two runs in the first inning a little offense from his teammates could have carried him to a win. Johan has been struggling a lot in the first innings lately in fact his ERAS is 8.04 in the first inning of his starts.

Syam you mentioned Ruben Tejada getting a hit, that’s only 2 hits in 45 at-bats. He has what I consider a fixable problem with his hitting, His stance, his swing, the way he plants his foot after he swings and especially the way he chokes up on the bat are all part of his problem I can not understand why HoJo does not take this kid under his wing and help him make the corrections he needs to make. Rubin is an excellent defense player someone needs to watch his swing and see as I do where his problems are. They are as obvious as the nose on your face so why is no one helping him is a mystery to me. Here’s the thing, Daniel Murphy is working his but off in Florida mastering second base, he will (because that’s the kind of a kid he is) master that position during winter ball. We know he can hit for power, lets not forget he led the Mets in home runs last year. I want to see Murph at second next year; perhaps if they can fix Tejada and they trade Reyes (did I say that out loud?) ;) Rubin can play short. But what ever happens to Reyes I want Murphy on the e team in 2011 playing second, he can do it he just needs time. Remember also how much success he was having learning first last year, but theta Ike’s job now so Murphy will have to be a utility player with the hopes of winning the second base job. I will be in contact with Murph all winter and will keep you guys up to date on how he is doing.

Road trip last night to se the Cyclones clinch the 2010 McNamara Division title with an outstanding 10-0 win over the Connecticut Tigers coupled with a loss by Hudson Valley. This is our fifth in 10 seasons.:=D:
Yohan Almonte was awesome pitching a nine-inning, complete-game shutout he allowed just six hits on the night, and struck out five. His ERA is now 2.00.

What a game, 10 runs on 15 hits, with home runs by Blake Forsythe and Jeff Flagg. Darrell Ceciliani drove in three runs, and Cory Vaughn had his 46th RBI. I should also mention that homer by Flagg gave him 45 RBI. Next home game will be Tuesday; we have to complete a suspended game with Vermont.

The NYPL Playoff games, two best-of-three series will be played from September 7th through the 13th
I am so so proud of my guys I have to give special kudos to the pitching staff, Cory Vaughn and especially to Ceciliani who leads the league in hits with 90, runs scored at 53 and 11 triples. I asked pitching coach Rick Tomlin, who would start the playoffs and he told me the first two games would have Cuan and Almonte on the mound.

The Cyclones are making my post season alive and exciting, I still want the Mets to finish respectfully at .500 ball, they have no shot at winning anything so lets hope for at least a respectable finish, but for now, for me, it’s all about the Cyclones

JenrryMejia will be promoted tomorrow to the Buffalo Bisons coming up from Double-A Binghamton
Mejia, is 2-0 with a 1.32 ERA in six starts for the Binghamton Mets. In each of his last two outings, hey has thrown seven shutout innings. I see this move as just the first of two steps with him coming to Flushing soon after the roster expands 9/1
 
Yeah,sonny if Murphy's healthy the boy can hit and he is versatile,hopefully he can play lots of second base for the Mets next season...he's one of those guys you have to root for.I think Tejada is gonna be very good defensively,but I think he needs a full year of AAA to get into good hitting habits.Don't want to hear talk of trading Reyes though ...gotta keep Reyes and Wright and build around that,say goodbye to Beltran after next year or before if they can work out a decent trade,but even when I was talking in frustration the other day I can't trade David Wright....still a lot of great ball in him but he needs confidence in himself again,get back to the old consistent all star stud he is.

Liking the news on Jennry Mejia, pitched some great games at Binghamton and now a couple of starts in Buffalo.Either sometime next year or 2012,another exciting player to build around.Saw Matt Harvey actually the other night interviewed by Kevin Burkhardt at CitiField during the game,was at the park and showed great enthusuasm and excitement for pitching at a great pitcher's park....love the maturity emphasizing his power sinker and how his off speed pitches complement that nasty hard sinker.The guy is a bull who will be playing next month in an instructional fall league,hopefully only a couple of seasons away but he has an awesome competitive mentality...an even tougher minded Mike Pelfrey I'll compare him to.


Least the Mets scored 5 runs yesterday,including a rare 4 run outburst.Great to see Josh Thole hitting his second major league home run,great kid really improving his all around game and a vital part of our future.RA Dickey,what else can you say about him?Unflappable,resilient,intelligent,humble,passionate,bulldog mentality....he's a winner and bonced back very nicely from his shaky last outing allowing one run on six hits in seven innings.Sonny loved the guy from day one and has given the Mets a cool,even keeled anchor to the back of the rotation...great competitor,great guy and just a wonderful story of the power of persistence,hard work and belief in oneself.

The season is over for the Mets, come on lets face reality here but they can at least give us a late push to end up a few games over .500 and take the sour taste that all of us Mets fans have right now.
I have been asking for the youth movement to come into Flushing and make watching the Mets play fun again, starting with the pitching with guys like Mejia and Gee. Don’t get me wrong, there is little to complain about with our starting rotation I don’t have to remind you that is not the problem with the Mets. But still with just a little over 30 games left let’s see what we have in pitching for 2011. Right now it would be Santana, Dickey, Pelfrey, and Niese, the fifth starter would be the question, and unless the Mets go out and get one we will need to know if guys like Misch, Mejia or Gee would be ready to fill that spot. Mejia needed to be stretched out if he was going to be a starter which is what he has been doing.
Putting aside the way he was handled by the Mets with respect to his development (I have written many times on that) it’s time to call him up. He’s been pitching really well since being sent back to the minors. In his four starts at Binghamton, he was 2-0 with a 1.32 ERA in those starts not to mention about 25 strike outs and a complete game shutout and Lefties have hit just .167 against him. Yup it’s time to see what he can do going deeper into games against one of the teams like Atlanta and Phillies. His promotion today to AAA tells me that he will be one of the guys called up. Its no coincidence that hr is pitching in Buffalo today the same day Misch pitches in Flushing. If Misch pitches badly tonight and Mejia pitches well you can expect Mejia to fall right into the fifth spot next time around with Misch going to the pen, take that to the bank and cash it.
Dillon Gee struggled in 2009 season with the Bisons. But in 2010 he has improved especially in August where he was 4-0 with a 3.93 ERA and 43 strikeouts, that’s with six starts so don’t count him out as a call up as well. I watched him pitch recently and was impressed; he threw some pretty hard stuff
Last time I saw him in Buffalo his ERA was about 4.80 but I was very impressed with his control something Mejia still needs to work on. This season he has been 13-7 in about 150 innings and he struck out well lover 100 batters.

As to the bench players if you read my stuff you know I am a big fan of Nick Evans and putting my personal relationship with Nick aside as not to cloud my judgment there is no question that Nick should be called up, he has been outstanding in AAA the last month, prior to that he spent most of the time in AA. I am here to tell you his stats have been the best they ever have, in just over 100 games, playing in Binghamton and Buffalo his batting average has stayed just about .300 and had 20-22 home runs.
He’s ready and like the song says “lemme in couch, he’s ready to play.”
Then there is Kirk Nieuwenhuis, This year in AAA He has been struggling a bit in Buffalo this month but he is a very good outfielder and for sure one to watch. His batting average as of last week is .289 and he had 16 homers, 61 RBI, and 13 stolen bases. I love his base running, if only Ike could run like Kirk can. But just like Ike, Kirk has issues with his plate discipline; maybe they can work on that together.
Next up would be Lucas Duda another terrific kid, only thing is he is Hugh, like 6’5’’ and at least 245 pounds, so we will have to see how he can hand the big bad outfield at Citi
He had a good transition from AA to AAA and he has some impressive power numbers hitting over.300 with 23 home runs and over 80 RBIs. He owned right-handed pitching at Buffalo hitting about .350 against them.
That’s just a coupe of the guys I have been watching that I want to see come up, there are plenty more but I’ll start with them.

The Mets open a four game series tonight against the Braves as I mentioned Pat Misch will be on the mound facing Jair Jurrjens. I hate when the Mets go to Atlanta, the fans are so obnoxious. Seriously just let two or more Braves get on base and those fans start up with the chanting and that chop chop crap .Drives me up the fudder mucking wall. Sorry if any Braves fans read this but come on…you guys are nutz :p
 
NA I am a little puzzled by your post regarding throwing out the first pitch would you please elaborate on that?

Jenrry Mejia let up one run in eight innings last night, struck out nine batters, including seven of the first eight he faced. It was clear to everyone who watched that he had been working on both fastballs, as well as his curve in AA to improve those pitches and last night he dominated the opposition. Pat Misch had a bad night so as I wrote yesterday although nothing has been said officially you can expect Mejia and not Misch to pitch the next start in the rotation on Saturday in Chicago. I feel bad for Pat especially since his fits two outings were ruined by the Mets Lack of offense and miserable defense in both those games. But he got rocked last night pitching only three innings giving up five runs on eight hits. An announcement about his future should come soon.With the expansion coming tomorrow I will be looking forward to who we will see in Flushing, yesterday I gave some of my thoughts on that.
But I would only expect to see Mejia at the beginning since the Bisons are still in the hunt for the wild card they will need the other players and we may see any more guys form Buffalo just yet.

Saucy I forgot to mention your thoughts about Murphy in your last post, please keep supporting him you know I have been singing his praises for some time now and I am very excited about his return next year. As I said I will be in touch with Murph all winter and will keep you up to date on how he is doing. He will be off to the Dominican Republic where he will primarily play second base for Aguilas in October November and December he also expects to get some time at first and even in the ouitfield. He also should see action at first base and in left field as well.

Reyes still can’t play it hurts when swings the bat, oh well

How about that Ollie Perez last night? Didn’t seeing him on the mound give you chills, and not in a good way? I still don’t understand why he is being allowed to hold that roster spot hostage. I mean I get it’s about the money and they don’t wanna just throw him and that money away but look at it this way, if he can’t be used what is the point of keeping him, either way we loose the money but at least if we dump him we still loose the money but gain a roster shot. Oh, and we also loose the risk of Manual putting him in a game again. See my point? Keep him and we get nothing for our money, dump him we still loose on the money but get the spot back. I mean am I the only one who sees that?
 
NA, Congrats on the first pitch opportunity, should be fun! As for the Mets, not so much fun. Two stinkers in a row, bottom line, not hitting with runners in scoring position. Gee, where have we seen that before??? ALL SEASON LONG!!!! Difference between Mets/Braves is plain to see, the reason stated above. Monday nite, the Mets had seven at bats in the sixth, scored one run, the Braves, seven at bats in the sixth, scored 3 runs. Last nite the same, have bases loaded twice in the fifth, get 2 sac flies, Braves in the bottom half, with the huge help from Luis Castillo's error, score unmercifully topped by a Grand Slam, which of course, the Mets don't have one this whole season, the only team in baseball without one! That may be the longest sentence I've ever written. It's been very frustrating. Well, Franceour is off to Dallas, he's been a good Met. He'll be missed in the clubhouse and defensively in RF, however, his inconsistent bat should not be missed too much. I hope he has a very successful postseason with the Rangers.

Ah yes NA the Sandy the Seagull Bobblehead scavenger hunt, I forgot about that. I never indulged although I did go to that Central park thing last year it was hot as hell but kinda fun in a goofy sort a way. I’m thinking there will be a lot of guys throwin so all you gotta do is not hit the catcher…:eek: or throw it into the dugout… ;) have fun. Are you going to the double header today?

Yesterday was awesome our Cyclones won both games the second with another walk off win. That first game was actually a game we had to resume cause if rain a couple weeks ago and we had to finish it winning of course. But it was the regular second game that got my blood pumping (funny how that always happens at a Cyclone game) Jeff Flagg was on fire with five RBI and a three-run home run to win the game. That tied Jeff with Cory Vaughn for the most RBI by a Brooklyn player in a single season, with 50 RBI each. I think the previous record was 45 not sure though. Tuesday night was the third time this season we have had hit a walk-off home run to win the game.
As I mentioned, today is another big day with a double header they will be seven inning’s each. They are giving away some promotional stuff tonight not sure what. Plus it’s wiener night (don’t ask)

So I guess I should write about the Francouer thing, not sure I w ant to though cause I am not happy about it. Awhile back I wrote about the possibility of Jeff being traded, Omar Minaya said back in July that Francoeur would be a waiver-trade candidate, it just seemed Omar and the Mets had given up on him.
At first Frenchie was opposed to the idea saying how much he loved playing in NY, but then he stated to loose playing time sitting on the bench and not happy. It was at that point Jeff said if the Mets were not going to play him every day he would prefer to be traded, clearly a moment of frustration, confusion and anger.
So now he sorta got his wish, he was traded but not for the reasons he would have wanted, first of all the Rangers are probably going to play Jeff the same way the Mets did, he will not play every day, although the Rangers will use him a lot against the left handed pitchers. He has said all the right things, he appreciated the opportunity the Mets gave him he will miss the other guys on the team, he understands he des not fit into the future Mets plans (the Mets have a plan?) :rolleyes:but I am willing to bet that under that positive face he put on is a man who is dejected and a little hurt. But he will play hard for the Rangers and he will bring so much to that clubhouse something the Mets clubhouse and players will miss a lot, most of all DWright who had a strong bond with Frenchie. To add insult to injury in my book is the guy we got in return Joaquin Arias, who is at best an AAA player. The Mets will not be shedding any salary in the deal ad will be responsible for the remainder of Francoeur's $5 million salary; Arias' salary would be paid by Texas.
The Rangers had scouts in the park in Atlanta and Jeff pretty much knew it would be his last day as a Met. I’m thinking as soon as Castillo let that ball go though his legs leading to a seven run inning for Atlanta, Wilpon called Omar and yelled “MAKE THE DEAL GIVE ME A SECOND BASEMAN” Arias plays mostly second but can play first and third as well. But for my money we can keep him for the rest of season and then send him packing next year when Daniel Murphy is ready. Since the deal was completed before the midnight, Francoeur is eligible for the postseason roster. Which is a plus for Jeff who wants badly to play for a team headed for the playoffs; Texas has an 8 game lead in NLWest.

As I expected the Met recalled Jenrry Mejia from Buffalo they also called Lucas Duda, who I wrote abut yesterday and wanted for the Mets I am just surprised they pulled him away from the Bisons so soon with Buffalo fighting for their lives to stay in the wild card. If you haven’t seen him play prepared to be thrilled by him you are gonna live that kid. Mejia will pitch in place of Misch on Saturday.

Last night we got a look at Lucas Duda who I have seen play in Buffalo a few times and like very much. You may recall I wrote the other day of my hopes to see him in Flushing and yesterday I got my wish. He certainly had a good night in left field but had little with his bat. Here is the thing, he has had trouble when in saw him in Buffalo with the off speed pitches and apparently the scouts noticed as well cause that was petty much all he saw. Just let him adjust, it was after al his first time against big league pitching and I was not expecting all that much the first few times out. I did not expect however the Braves to have his number regarding the off speed stuff I guess I shudda known better. No worries, like I said just give him time. I have never met the kid only watched him play but do know a few guys who do know him and one of em told me that Lucas was very nervous and way to excited, he will calm down now that he got his first day outta the way. As for the cramp he had, just chalk that up to nervousness as well he was very tense out there and was embarrassed to have come out of the game with cramps saying "Who makes their major league debut and comes out due to cramps, that’s not the way I wanted to start it”

So Wally Backman caused a few eyebrows to go up with his comments the other day regarding his coming to Flushing to manage the Mets next year. Wally said “It would be impossible to say I don’t focus on it. Do I want the Mets to do good? Absolutely, because this is who I came up with. Do I want the organization to be better? Absolutely. Are there things that maybe I could do better? Probably… I’m prepared to go to a major league team. There’s no question in my mind I’m ready for it.” I might add like I have been saying for months I certainly agree that he is ready. He has done an awesome job with Cyclones I mean just outstanding. When you watch Wally at the games he is always on fire, couching the guys greeting tem after every at bat. He is loved by the team, he inspires them as well as teaches and he shows a lot of patience with the players. When ever I watch a game in Brooklyn I am also watching Wally cause he is fun to watch, which makes it all that much more difficult to watch Manual with the Mets who just basically sits in the dugout looking bored to death. Wally will bring the spark to the Mets they need, he brings a whole different approach to the game from Manual. There is no comparison between the two, one is a first rate manager who understands the game and how to relate to his payers and the other is Jerry Manual. So to the people shaking their heads at Wally for making those comments publically I say suck it up, he is Wally Backman a man who believes in saying what’s on his mind, things in my opinion that needed to be said and if you have a problem with that, to bad.

The other change the Mets will have to make after they dump Manual is take Omar Minaya out of the GM position, we need someone who will build us a winning team in 2011 and that ain’t Omar, he does not need to fired just relocated onto some other position. Many have said it would be a bad idea to give the job to John Ricco cause he is made of the same cloth as Omar and would not be much of an improvement. I have to wonder though how he would do without Omar’s influence, we really dont know what Ricco would he would if he did not have to answer to Omar.
 
I was irate enough by the Francour trade and then I see Arias wearing his number 12 last night. Come on Charlie (Samuels) show some respect Jeff has only been gone one day what’s up with that? :mad:
I don’t expect Jeff to be a Ranger for long, Dayton Moore the Royals GM is a big fan of Frenchie going back to their time in Atlanta. I expect the Rangers will non-tender Jeff after the season and Moore will swoop in and grab him, watch and see.

Johan Santana left the game in the fifth with a strained pectoral muscle. That’s a bigger deal than maybe the Mets are willing to admit. That muscle is critical when you pitch Manual called it fatigue a typical Manual response to something h knows little about. Johan did go to Chicago and will be reevaluated there but don’t expect him to pitch in his next start on Tuesday. As a matter of fact with the expanded roster and a lost post season, it may very well be Johan won’t pitch again this season. That muscle is a bitch when you pitch it aint gonna just go away that easily. The Mets can ill afford to take any chances on their ace, we are done for 2010 let him rest let him fully heal. I could see something was not right in the fifth I was surprised none of the guys in the booth (Gary Keith and Ron) did not pick up on the drop in his velocity all of a sudden, I remember thinking “oh oh” and clearly he was feeling the pain. The Mets information can never be trusted so unless it was something other than a pectoral muscle problem Santana should not pitch till spring. But if it turns out to be simple muscle soreness than perhaps he will just miss the next start, I am sure that is what Santana would want, I doubt he wants to stop till the season is over but he may not have a choice. The next couple of days will tell us just exactly is wrong, perhaps he will have to return to NY for further teats then we will see. As for his next start on Tuesday I am hoping they give the ball to Pat Misch

Lucas Duda went 0-for-5 and is now 0-for-8 in his first two days, but I still love the kid and wanna remind everyone that, Darryl Strawberry was 0-for-11 before he got his first MLB base hit.;)

I mentioned my displeasure in that new kid Arias wearing Francours number but although he was ok at the plate who ever told him he could play short? He was terrible out there just awful.

This weekend will be the last three games in the regular season for the Cyclones as well as the last game for the team I play for on Long Island. So very little Mets baseball for me this weekend, gonna be busy with my teams both on Long Island and in Brooklyn. I will record the Mets games and try and watch what I can but my heart is in Brooklyn right now.

RA It's ok you "bombed" om the mound with your Ollie Prez imitation ; at least you had fun lot of fun. As you said the Cyclones won again last night and are 49-23 :D
 
The information coming down on Santana continues to be confusing and with the Mets record of not being completely honest abut such things we just don’t know what is going on with him. Yesterday I told you Johan had a strained pectoral muscle but now they are saying it was just "the tip" of the muscle closer to the shoulder. If the problem is in his shoulder than that of course is worse news. The Mets continue to call Santana's injury a pectoral strain, and say it is not severe. But it was bad enough to take him out of Thursdays game after throwing 65 pitches in five innings, you may remember I was concerned about his fastball velocity which into the mid-80s in the fifth, no one seems to be talking about that but clearly he was having trouble throwing.Johan initially complained about his shoulder before leaving the game. Then when he left, the Mets announced the injury as a pectoral strain with Manual calling it a shoulder issue.
Then yesterday in typical Manual fashion he attempted to clarify by pointing from his chest to his shoulder, and saying the pectoral covered all of that area. Stop embarrassing your self Jerry send the guy in for an MRI find out for sure what is going on. Santana did nothing yesterday but rest his arm and shoulder he will do a little tossing and catching today and how he responds to that will determine what is next. I really hope it turns out to be nothing that will keep him form pitching the last few games of the season but I do think if he has any problems today he needs to go back to NY for exam and defiantly not pitch on his next start. The news for Reyes is not good he is not getting any better and has shown no sign of improvement at all it is very possible he will be shut down for the season, stay tined.

So what happened to Dickey yesterday? Well the weather once again could have played a factor; it was very windy in the park yesterday. If you keep in mind Dickey throws an unusually hard knuckleball, and his success is in part due to his ability to change speeds on it, so the wind blowin in his face could have slowed down his knuckler and of course that would make it easier to hit. He basically compensated by over-throwing the ball and what that does is put more spin on the ball. What you need to understand is that Knuckleballs move more with less spin and too much spin and the ball stays straight. Not making excuses for him I’m just sayin it’s possible.

DWright was once again close to the plate and the result was a 3-5 day

Duda is showing sighs of bustin out he got his first ML hit a double yesterday, and my on my that awesome throw to double off Xavier Nady at first base after catching Soto's line drive.
I told you guys you are gonna love this kid I was so impressed watching him in Buffalo. Lots of great things comin from him. The Buffalo Bisons just named Duda, with his .314 average and 17 homers, their Most Valuable Player this season. The Bisons also named Pat Misch their Most Valuable Pitcher, and Dillon Gee Comeback Player of the Year. The future of the Mets kids. Unfortunately the Bisons post season hopes are over and today is their last game for 2010.

Good to see Ike Davis showing patience at the plate again a couple of walks yesterday proved that. He has also been under a lot of fire form friends and teammates abut his attitude towards the umpires (I wrote about that last week) He has promised to “work on that” I know his dad Ron spoke to Ike about it as well. He needs to understand that behavior will get him no where but in trouble with the umps and as a rookie he will suffer for it. So let’s hope he is serious abut changing that.

Yesterday in Brooklyn the Cyclones won and improved their record to 50-23. FIFTY GAMES WON! :=D:

Today I pitch in the last game of the season for my Long Island team, the Cyclones and Bisons also finish their regular season today. Of course the Cyclone will go on to the semi finals on Tuesday and Wednesday and if necessary on Thursday. Then the championship series will be played next Saturday 9/11and Sunday 9/12 with a third game if necessary on Monday.9/13
 
Had a really great phone call last night from Buffalo, baring anything unexpected, Dillon Gee, Raul Valdes and Nick Evans are all joining the Mets on Monday for the Washington series. It will be great to see Gee and Valdes pitch for the Mets, I have gotten to know both of have seen them pitch many times, perhaps with both Misch and Mejia both having had a shot at the fifth spot I say why not give Dillon and Valdez a shot.
My boy Nick Evans is long overdue for a position in the bigs, He has had an outstanding year in AA and AAA. Just yesterday in the final game of the season in Buffalo Nick went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI double. He was .294 with 17 homers and 55 RBIs in 88 games with in AA Binghamton this season. I know I wrote about this when it happened but just as a reminder, he got promoted to AAA Buffalo at the end of July and then hit .314 with six homers and 25 RBIs in 140 at-bats. It is an important time for Nick cause this is his final year with a minor league option. If he doesn’t make the team and is not traded, he will need to clear waivers to again be sent to the minors next season. I want him on the Mets 2011 team with along with Murphy and Backman, a lot of us do.

Johan Santana played catch yesterday at a distance of about 100 feet in the Wrigley Field outfield and is going to throw a bullpen session today and again on Monday, that is when a decision will be made about Tuesday's scheduled start. Johan said he felt fine playing catch and did not feel anything wrong.

Jose Reyes has not swung a bat during the first two days in Chicago, although he might spend time in the batting cage today. It is not looking good for his return anytime soon.
 
TWo more disappointing losses by the Mets, they score 6 and lose by 1, and yesterday Mejia loses in his starting debut. Hopefully we'll salvage one game from the Cubbies, before moving on to DC and the Nats. Ike finally got another HR, it had been awhile, since july since he hit one, perhaps he'll have a strong finish to his rookie season.
 
So, a bud says, hey the Mets scored 18 today, and I ask "Did they win?" What an offensive outbreak, who'd a thunk it! No signs this was coming at all this year. Nice games from Tejada, with 1st HR and 5 RBI, and Ike had 4 hits including another HR, and a respectable outing from Jon Niese, who also had 2 RBI. Looks like Johan will be held from his scheduled Tues start, and instead it will be Dillon Gee. Looking forward to seeing how he performs, he had a pretty good spring if I recall, and a fine AAA season as well. Perhaps he can be a member of next year's rotation. I'd like to see Mejia get a little more seasoning at the AAA level before seeing a steady diet of MLB hitters. He's only 20, lots of time to mature a bit, and work on his secondary pitches. Let's hope for a sweep of the Nats!
