New York Mets 2011

Beltran will be back in the lineup this afternoon; apparently what he has is pink eye. The swelling went down last night and he is good to go. So the lineup for today’s game will be: Reyes-SS, Thole-C, Wright-3B, Beltran-RF, Bay-LF, Murphy-1B, Turner-2B, Pridie-CF, and Capuano pitching

Bobby Parnell continues to struggle in Bufallo, Yesterday he came in the game with the bases loaded and allowed the three runs to score and then surrendered a second double and was charged with a run himself. He's technically on a rehab assignment for numbness in his right middle finger, but he could just be optioned to the Bisons and stay there at some point until his performances improve. The Mets will already need to make a roster move this week to clear room for Pedro Beato's return from the disabled list. Beato is expected to pitch Sunday and Tuesday for the Bisons before being activated.

Checked in with Darrell Ceciliani last night to ask how he was doin after coming off his injury and I am happy to report very well thank you very much. He was 5-for-5 yesterday with a double, three RBIs and four runs scored to raise his average to.278. In case you forgot he missed 20 games because of a right hamstring injury in early April. When I first met this kid in Brooklyn and watched him play I told anyone who would listen watch that kid he is going to be a star. Take this check to the bank and cash it, look for Darrell to be one of the Mets great outfielders real soon.

Johan Santana pitched off of level ground for the first time since his surgery tossing 15 pitches off the mound, said he felt great.

Almost game time lets Go Mets to win another series

Another series win for the Mets! BIG day for Justin Turner, with a double, first major league HR, and 5 RBI. Nice job!! Capuano was good enough, which is what we pretty much expected and hoped for when he signed. Tonite's game will be a tough one against Josh Johnson, need to have Pelfrey near the top of his game, and get some timely hits from the offense. Let's go Mets!!!

No no no Daniel Murphy did not walk on three balls what many did not realize or notice, the second base ump called a ball on Aneury Rodriguez for going to his mouth which accounted for the fourth ball. Murph was a little confused cause he did not realize it either at first he heard ‘Balk.' So it went from 2-1 to 3-1. So yes indeed it was a four-ball walk. Leave it to Murph to get in on something like that. :)

Jason Pridie continues to make me jump and down at games how could I not after watching him break for the plate when the catchers throw went through to second base. I know they have talked about things like that happening when there are two strikes and Jose runs and they threw through, ya gotta go home in that situation, steal that sucker it was perfect they threw through and it all worked out. Awesome! The mistake they made was in the throw they thought they could get Reyes. Thinks again suckers,
Jason's response?? “It way pretty cool." Yeah I’ll say ;)

What can I say about Justin Turner how could you not get super excited about that kid. When I think how he got demoted at end of spring training so Brad Emaus could play 2B just goes to show ya
Gotta figure when Ike gets back there will be some serious platooning going on at second with Murph cause Justin has got to play

Ike is doin ok although he is still having difficulty with that ankle sprain there is still plenty of discomfort, he wants to go to Citi Field today to see the guys when the Mets play the Marlins before he heads to St. Lucie to behind working at the Mets’ complex. He really wishes he could just go for a run, not bummed exactly just annoyed with it at this point.

Bobby Parnell is not imminently returning to the Mets, I told you yesterday how he is struggling in Buffalo. Terry Collins said Booby needs to demonstrate he can command his 98 mph fastball before returning to the majors. Parnell conceivably could stay on a rehab assignment for as long as 30 days, or the Mets could use an option at some point and make the right-hander an official minor leaguer.

But we will get some relief soon with. Pedro Beato likely to be activated after making scheduled rehab appearances for Buffalo which he is doing now

Well the weather in NY is gonna be crappy the next dew days so I hope we get all the games in. Tonight is a rematch of opening day with Pelf and Johnston. I just hope it ends better than it did the last time they met. Johnson has an 8-1 record and a 2.73 ERA against us, I do love to watch him pitch he has two different outstanding breaking pitches, a curveball and a slider. Plus his location is generally spot on and when we do make contact most of our guys don't hit the ball well. Look for loads of ground balls with his curve/slider combo. Now I know I should be singing Pelf’s song here but Johnson is a force to recon with and there is no denying or disrespecting that. Fortunately Pelf has been pitching better with improvements at every start so who knows a pitchers duel tonight? Be still my heart.

This explains alot with Dwright! He might go on the DH list.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/17/sports/baseball/mets-david-wright-has-stress-fracture-in-back.html

"But his difficulties at the plate this year would now seem to have an explanation: a back injury that apparently stems from a play April 19 in which he collided with Houston’s Carlos Lee during a tag play."

This is going to suck as if he does go on the DH, it might be another blow for the Mets. However, i rather have him resolve it now before it can get worse and might effect him in the future and his playing career!!

Also, i wonder if him slamming into Davis last week, made it worse?

About an hour after I posted this morning I got the first of a gazillon calls about DWright. It’s true he has a stress fracture in his lower back, but at least for now will not DL but instead stay on the 25 man roster. But he is expected to DL.
They are going to wait for a second opinion from another back specialist at the team's hospital before committing to the DL. If the diagnosis holds, Alderson said Wright will rest for 10 days, and then can resume baseball activities. Surgery will not be required.

Everyone agrees that until they know more David needs not to play and risk of worsening the injury did not exist, knowing David he would attempt to pain through it. So who plays third? That is the million dollar question with several possibilities, for tonight Willie Harris will fill in after that decisions will have to be made quickly. Among the possibilities I hard today are Turner goes to 3rd and Tejada comes up to play 2b to fill for Wright until Ike returns Luis Hernandez also is at Buffalo and can play IF positions. There is also Nick Evans who plays third but he has been struggling the last few weeks so I dono. Murphy is also a third baseman but Collins like the way he is handling first and wants to leave him there till Ike returns. Then if David is out Daniel would be another option for third. So its all speculation and we will have to take this one step at a time lets first find out what the next move will be for David.

Speaking of Ike he was one of the first to call me about Wright, I asked him how he was felling cause earlier he said it was a heck of a lot better and as the day went on he started to feel much better you could hear it in his voice. He took the boot off Saturday replacing it with an air cast and today he was able to put a running shoe on and walk comfortably and that felt really good to know he could do that.
He changed his plans about staying in NY and is heading down to Florida tonight to begin working out at the team’s spring training complex. I am sure he will call tomorrow and I will fill you guys in more on that. But when I asked he said oh yeah he will be back on the team on the 26th, he wants to be playing the first day eligible to come off DL.
Since he was feeling so much better I was able to get him to talk a bit more than he did last night. He says he is confident that he’s not going to have any setbacks right now he’s just icing his ankle and doing a bit of strengthening. I asked bout rehab and he said, By the way to those of you who heard he was irritated at Wright for what happened, NOT TRUE, he isn't upset at Wright, and there's no animosity toward him. He is not mad at him, but just wishes as does David that he would've heard him calling for the ball.

More tomorrow almost game time gotta go.

I’m back

So the Mets are in a rain delay or should we say mist delay cause it aint ring. But Alderson and Collins are concerned about the field conditions and want more work done on the field before they play. I am having a hard time believing what is being said and that is that they may try to rain out game to avoid Josh Johnson, playing with injuries. Although Florida next visits Citi Field Aug. 1-3, right after the trading deadline.

I wish I cold tell you more about David Wright but fact is I don’t know him, I have had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with him a few times but I have no access to him at all so I am depending on the players to keep me up to date. One thing I loved hearing David say that the injury is in no way the reason for his performance lately and he refuses to blame anything but himself. Which is so typical of David Wright the man.

The best news I had today is in Ike Davis feeling so much better, the difference in how he felt today over last night was awesome and oh so good to hear. He is chomping at the bit to get back to baseball and St Luice will be good for him.

With all I was thinking with Davis and Wright I forgot to mention Chris Young and Jenrry Mejia had surgeries to repair season-ending injuries. Mejia underwent Tommy John elbow surgery, it was a clean tear. The elbow looked clean other than the injury, so from his standpoint it was an excellent result.

I just havta say one thing about that whole Yankees/ Girardi/ Posada mess
Theses guys need to grow up, Posida got dropped in the lineup so he acted like a 12year old and then the rest of them just poured gasoline on the fire. I am just glad this crap is happening to that other NY team and not the Mets for a change is all I’m sayin. Sounds like the mihtyy Yankees are having a little trouble dealing with the fact that they are not playing so well this year so far. Poor babies :p

Today should be full of Mets roster news so let me tell you what has happened so far

Chin-lung Hu has been outrighted to Triple-A Buffalo, and Ryota Igarashi has been optioned to Triple-A Buffalo. Murph told me that Hu was saying good-bye in clubhouse last night
Tejada will play second base with Justin Turner with Turner also playing third for Wright. But the best news is that while Wright is on the DL Nick Evans will be back to take over third. I was concerned that maybe Alderson would resist that cause Nick has been struggling a bit but it looks like Sandy wisely decided to look at Nick’s overall performance in Buffalo and give him the shot. Nick’s numbers have been better but are currently not all that shabby batting .248 with five home runs and 16 RBIs in 36 games with Buffalo.

Daniel Murphy, will stay at First while Ike is out.

The phone will be ringing very soon with more and I will jump in later with the latest
Meantime Wright is awaiting the second opinion on his injury to decide if he will DL which everyone thinks will happen just about any minute now. That is when Evans will be called up. When Evans does gets in I will go to Citi to meet up with him, I am so excited about he idea of Nick joining Turner, Pridie and Murphy I can hardly contain myself.;)

I asked my dad, if Evans comes in can I take the rest of the day off and prolly tomorrow as well and he said you may as well because you will be of no use to me here if you don’t..gotta live my dad :D

More later

This will prolly be my last post today I am headin to Citi field where the game is up in the air weather wise. Assuming they play, Tejada will play second with Turner at third and Pridie in center Nieses pitches Thole catching. Evans will be on the bench at least until DWright goes on the DL, still no word on that.
David will be on with Mike Lupica on ESPN to talk about the injury.

So now another shot for Nick Evans, the ball is totally in his court. What happens now is if he is removed from the major league roster at some point and clears waivers, he can declare himself a free agent. We know of at least two teams that would sign him for Triple-A, giving him a legit opportunity at the major league level.
The Mets have been bouncing him around for too long if they do it again it may be time for him to move on. Whatever works for him I want only the best for him and if not the Mets well so be it. We will see how this unravels. One of the Mets who is the most excited about Nick coming up is Murphy, they are very close friends since the early baseball days when they played together and were roommates. DWright will be sorry he can’t play golf with Nick.

Ike Davids is great down in Florida taking BP and feeling so much better. This morning he is walking really well and has only a little stiffness and no pain He is defiantly positively absolutely coming back on the 26th

I aint going to say much since this isnt the right thread, but Posada whom i always hated needs to STFU!

I am worried about David, because back issues never go away and will always come back. i should know first hand, was hit by a drunk driver, whom total my car and my back never been the same. Today it was killing me!! Been reading that it may causes problems for him going forward, which isnt good news.

Since you talk to Ike, please tell him to cut his hair lol.

So happy, getting Uverse end of week, so i can start watching games again...THANK GOD!!!

First just want to send thoughts and prayers to the family of Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew who passed away today at 74.A gentle guy but one of the most feared home run swings in baseball history...a legend whose humility and kindness was as remarkable as his talent.

Thanks sonny for the update....it's like a daze so many things happening at once so I know you'll have further updates later today, know you'll be on anything coming out of the Mets organization as always!Heard some of David's interview on the Mike Lupica show and just have to say he definitely is one of the best young men around in the sport,as Mike opened up with stating. He really has that passion and yet doesn't whine or excuse the slump he was in as something caused by his injury...it's frustrating to him but he definitely seems positive about getting back soon and trying to keep moving this team forward.Think the club did the correct thing in pushing David to have the MRI as he was showing signs of having more than just a muscle problem as he thought and the back fracture finally got diagnosed.See conflicting things about whether this could be a chronic situation David would have to adjust to or two weeks rest should make it much better.....hope this isn't a career affecting injury that would keep David from having the high quality years like the David of old....he seems optimistic and as he said let's hope the club has seen the last of the unfortunate injuries that have plagued the Mets the last couple of years.

As a Yankee fan, I will freely say I have lost all respect for Posoda and other players like him who can't acknowledge when enough is enough.
Rest assured if I couldn't do my job well anymore my boss would shove me out the door.
NOt worried about this weekend's series, the Yanks looked like they are starting to wake up again,so this should be a good series.*

* I will miss Luis Castillo though....

The rainout did yesterday did not ruin my day I went to Citi to se the guys and not for the game. Nick Evans was already there, he had gotten the call after midnight and in fact was already asleep, but he did not mind that wake up call in fact he had gone to bed hoping it would come. He tried to get a little more sleep but that wasn’t easy and hoped on a plane just before 8am. By 4 he was in uniform and ready for batting practice. What Collins has told him so far is that he will see time against left-handed pitching and will mostly serve as a backup to Daniel Murphy at first and while Wright is out backup Justin Turner at third base.

The Mets clubhouse was full of the new kids yesterday; everywhere you looked there was a Bison. In fact Nick found nine former Bisons teammates in the clubhouse. I saw again how close theses guys are smiles, hugs and high fives everywhere it was so heartwarming it chocked me up.

So with no game there was plenty of time to talk about life, baseball and of course a card game. Nick was also relived that Jay Horowirtz had made his living arrangements quickly unlike the last time when Nick was practically homeless for a day. I remember that day last year running all over town looking for where Nick was gonna live.

Murphy Turner and Pelf had just gotten back from visiting middle schools talking to the kids about the importance of staying in school. The topic was “school is amazing” Pelf also coached students in basketball while Murph and Turner gave out tips to students playing in the school's whiffleball program. They also read stories to the kids. Pridie said that Wednesday he is going to give softball lessons in some schools. I tell you this so you know the kind of guys they are, so giving and so kind.

I returned home this morning to get a little work done before going back this afternoon. Weather not looking promising for a game we will know more later, there was already talk yesterday about a possible double header on Thursday if Weds is rained out.

I know I started this Yankee talk but maybe it's time to take it here ;)
Oh, and just a reminder Lets Go Mets

What a good game pitched by Jon Niese, despite the downpours throughout the game. He was "on" last nite. Justin Turner provided the big hit with his two run double and turned a good play at third, backhanding a one hopper on the line and throwing out the batter. That rain was a bit much, making the field a quagmire. Glad nobody got hurt (that I'm aware of). Izzy was great, and KRod was KRod working in and out of trouble in the ninth. Chance for a sweep of the two game series this afternoon, Let's go Mets!!!

Seriouisly Syam, outstanding outing form Jon Niese yesterday with seven scoreless innings lets hear it for out pitching lately. How fun is it to see theses guys recently brought in to fill in for the big guys. Ya know you have heard me say time and time again it’s those guys that can maker a game really fun. Turner is on fire bless him and shoes no signs of slowing down, Tejada came up strong and looks a little stronger at the plate which was his problem last year. We know about his great defense and if he builds on his offense ..woof!
Evans with a good patient at bat pitch hit yesterday to draw a walk. Sweet to see #6 in a Mets uniform again.
Unfortunately Bay continues to be, well.. Bay, but his contributions in the outfield are tremendous. Collins will prolly try and help get Jason going by maybe batting him second. What that should do is give him some protection, and also get him more fastballs if Jose Reyes is on. Try it Terry please, we have seen that work with players before it just makes sense to give it a shot, we need him to come out of that coma at the plate.
Murph has slowed his offence down there is something going on with his seeing the ball he knows it just give him time to adjust, meantime his defense continues to sparkle even in the sloppy field yesteday. It will be interesting to see what Collins does with Murph and Turner once Wright and Davis come back. Which brings up another question about guys like Pridie when Pagan returns. All in all a great spot for the Mets to be having so many quality players to choose from now. I hate tom see Hairston taking up room on the roster I would prefer someone else take that spot. I am waiting with batted breath for the return of Pagan Davis and Wright to see who stays and who goes and which position will all theses guys play.
We can expect Davis and Wright back about the same time in a little over a week, I am sure about Davis but Wright will need time to see how his injury comes along. Ike is already doing baseball activity in Florida but Wright has been ordered to do basically nothing right now but sit on the bench and rest
Pagan is doing really well he started a four game rehab yesterday in the Florida State League and went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk and played center field for seven innings. He should be activated after the three more games which would make him available for the final Yankees game on Sunday. More thou he will join the team in Chicago on Tuesday. And speaking of that Yankees series the DH decisions have already been made with Fernando Martinez on Friday and Saturday and Carlos Beltran Sunday the though there is to limit the stress on his knees with a day game after a night game and still remaining in the lineup.

Bobby Parnell pitched a scoreless inning yesterday with the Bisons, two hits, one strikeout.

Lineup for the day game today Reyes, Thole, Beltran, Bay, Murphy, Turner, Pridie, Tejada, and Gee-pitching.
And as Syam ends most of his posts "Lets Go Mets"

There is no loyalty from Yankees managers, General managers and fans towards any players who have delivered them a world series wins. I do sense sore losers in some people.

I still hold on to my favorite player of Ryan Klesko of the Braves after he was traded. I always thought it was a chicken poo way of treating a very good player that never got a chance to even hit against left handers. He is still one of my favorites even now after he have retired. Jorge is one of the good players left who loves the game, and he is being swept under the rug.

Wait until they do the exact same thing with david Wright if he does not preformed for the Mets.

Great effort by Dillon Gee giving up no runs on only two hits in seven and two thirds innings,in a 1-0 victory over the Nats...second shutout in a row for Mets pitching with the standout effort given by Jon Niese last night.K-Rod gets another save and even when he keeps things interesting has done the job.I believe the victory over Livan Hernandez will certainly make sonny happy as well..|As has become so frequent lately Justin Turner makes a huge impact in the game, knocks in the only run and has two hits, and also made the most controversial play of the game in the ninth.Playing third in place of David Wright, made a terrific reaction play on the sharp grounder hit to him by Jayson Werth with Lance Nix on second after doubling down the leftfield line.Amazing he made the play and reacted well enough to get the throw off....it did appear to sink and catch Daniel Murphy trying to stretch and grab it pulled off the bag, with Werth apparently safe but the first base umpire fortunately called Werth out. Incredulous,Werth jumped up and down in disbelief and manager Jim Riggleman tried to argue for the umps to get together to review and reverse the call but no way it was gonna fly tonight. We've had more than our share of bad breaks and incomprehensible setbacks so it's good to win one though it was clear from replays Murphy was off the bag.

Now on this weekend for a Part 1 of the Subway Series with the Yanks in the Bronx, and hopefully the recent strong road play will continue. This Mets club may be constantly tested and short manned but under Terry Collins they've found a way to play competitively and not meekly give up at the first sign of adversity. Now if we can just get RA Dickey to turn back the clock to last year;)Proud of our boys, and shouting out a hearty "Let's go Mets!" in the Bronx!(!)

One other note,as sonny has noted the number of guys on the club who were Buffalo Bisons are rapidly growing but counting those who had also played with the Brooklyn Cyclones there have to be about 11 on the roster.....sonny's of course a huge Mets minor league supporter and to see these guys all contributing to make this a competitive group of guys who you can't count out it has to be exhilirating how instrumental they've been.

Gee, but wasn't Dillon terrific yesterday!! Kept the Nats off balance all day, very nice job! Justin Turner with another game winning RBI, and of course involved in the controversial play at first in the ninth. Umpire's position did not allow him to see Murphy's foot coming off the bag, we deserve a break now and then as Sausy mentioned. We've had our share of bad breaks. Great 3-6-3 DP started by Murphy earlier in the game, he's shown he can play first base very well. Now it's on to the Bronx, let's hope our bats speak a little louder this weekend, both teams struggling with runners in scoring position. Need R. A. to get us off to a good start tonite. Let's go Mets!!!

Yup Saucy once again I had to sit thru another performance by my favorite pitcher to hate Livan Hernandez, who did not endure himself to me to me anymore by breaking up Dillon Gee’s no-hitter. My reaction in the next inning was yelling to the batters to hit him with comebacker and wipe that sarcastic look off his face, I must have said that a few times. OK so yes he is one of the great pitchers I get that and usually I am in awe of that and generally love to watch pitchers of his caliber of work no matter what team they are on. It is my love of the art of pitching that takes over anything else. BUT with that ass hole I can’t get passed his arrogant self-centered how wonderful I am personality of his. But enough about that pig how about our pitching,
As Syam has posted Gee followed Niese without another knockout performance, like I said yesterday ya gotta love what our pitchers are doing including the return of Pelf who has found himself again. Lemme also say with all that talk abut how well Paulino is calling and catching games that as a Josh Thole fan I want to point out that a big part of Gees performance is he did it with Thole behind the plate. I loved the way Dillon pitched to Josh, which was prolly the best effort of his career. Sometimes we tend to forget the nut behind the bolt here and not give enough credit to the catcher when as pitcher does well, and as a pitcher myself I have to say that just isn’t right. Next time you watch a game pay particular attention to what the catcher is doing and see what I mean, he is a very important part of that equation. Incidentally this was the second time in 10 career starts Gee went into the sixth inning with a no-hitter against Washington. Last time it was broken up was with now-teammate Willie Harris who homered.

I am so proud of Justin Turner, you may not realize this but Justin can match Ron Swoboda's 1965 franchise rookie record if he can drive in a run today at Yankee Stadium. Turner has produced an RBI in five straight games, which I am told is one shy of Swoboda's mark. Justin is also tied for the longest streak by a Mets rookie in the past 30 years and has 10 RBIs over the last five-games.

Yesterday I thought Collins should consider putting Bay in the two hole to see if it might help him out of that slump but after yesterday I’m thinking that may not be necessary and perhaps Jason will eventually turn it around and in fact yesterday hopefully will be a springboard to get it going.

I suppose I have to mention that call at first base yesterday involving Daniel Murphy who by the way until he saw the replay honestly thought his foot was still on the bag when he caught that ball, honest injin he did. Typical Murph gave all the credit to Turner saying Justin made a great play right there, my hats off to him. See that’s what Daniel always does he gives credit to his teammates never likes to blow his own horn or admit to his success, he is humble beyond words. No matter how you wanna look at it you have to think it was a very head’s up risk by Daniel. Instead of playing it safe and coming off the bag, Murph took the chance and hung with the play. He was able to sell it to the first base umpire and he got a pivotal second out for his pitcher, and that my friends is how you handle that kind of play. Of course as Saucy and Syam both wrote e deserve a break. Murph is showing what a good first base man he is becoming; he is totally at ease at first. I mean if you think about it, his defense could have been the difference in this two-game series.
Now it appears that Major League Baseball is investigating the conduct of Washington Nationals GM Rizzo in the immediate aftermath, the umpiring crew complained to MLB about alleged verbal mistreatment from Rizzo after the call. Come on boys get over it, I mean it’s not as if you’d a won that game anyways :p

Big subway series this weekend and I can’t wait to get started it has to be a heck of a lot of fun. I will be watching Fri and Sat games at my parent’s house with my best friend in the world Russell. He and I grew up together and have been like brothers all our lives. But Russell has a major flaw; ya see the poor kid is a Yankees fan. That fact has been a constant source if fun between us as we kid and poke at each other about our team. So there we will be him with his Yankees cap and me with my Mets cap. Then Sunday six of us are going to Yankee stadium, five Mets fans and Russell, poor Russ don’t stand a chance.
I will in addition to a Mets cap I will also wear an autographed I like Ike shirt. Hey, I’m goin to Yankee stadium I need to be as obnoxious and conspicuous as I can.;)
But first it will be a hot time in the house tonight. Mom is making tons of food and because dad and I will be rooting for the Mets she will side with Russell and be a Yankees fan for two days. Truth be told she only does that cause she feels sorry for the way dad and I beat up on Russ. Truthfully thou Russell does know mom is not a Yankee fan but goes along cause well... its mom.:D

Mets lineup for the first game tonight: Reyes, Murphy, Beltran, Bay, Martinez, Turner, Thole, Pridie, Tejada and Dickey on the mound
