New York Mets 2011

There has certainly been a shortage of "good" news about the Mets this week. Getting the buyer of 49% or so of the Mets IS good news, but as far as the on the field/injury stuff, pretty miserable. Lets' hope for a surprise weekend against the Phils, to truly make in memorable. Let's go METS!!

Awww so sweet of you to jump in and help us get this weekend off with the Phiilies to a good start. We sure deserve a beak by shocking the Philllies and beatin up on them, I am sure they expect to kick our butts this weekend. If ya think about it the Mets have a way of pulllin out surprise attacks maybe this will be one of em. Come on.....we deserve it. "LET GO METS"
When I wished Hundley a happy birthday I forgot to mention Terry Collins who is 62 today. Have a great one big guy.

No news from Ike, I am still waiting with my phone for his "start me up" ringtone
for some good news

LETS GO METS! I HOPE THEY BURY THE PHILLIES AND MAKE THEM CRAZY LOL..

I hate the Phils..go get em Mets!

I just want to say a few things to really get off my chest (maybe a little rant). I am a Yankee fan but do watch and support the Mets (minus when the Yanks and Mets play against one another). I never understood why Met fans hate the Yankees. They play in two different leagues and only play against each other in 2 series a year. I support NY teams(baseball and football), but i can see why Met Fans hate the Yankees (money, power, 27 World Series, etc). Red Sox nation use to always say the Yankees would buy championships (however in last few years both Red Sox and Phillies are really up there and very close to Yankee Payroll so they cant bitch about that anymore). I have asked my Met buddies, "why do you hate the Yankees?" and their answer was because i do and thats all!! No specific reason just because, are you kidding me??? I asked my Yankee fans why they hate the Mets (remember these are CT people, so the answer could be different in NY) and they say they Mets are just a joke of a team with crappy players, owners, and little leaguers could play better. At least they give me a answer as to why, but a Met fan really cant. To me, i think the hate goes back to the Dodgers and Giants era, where the Yankees would beat them in the glory years of the 50's in the World Series. But i am a history dork but better understand both teams history, i just hate the dam answer of "just because".

Now to the Mets....I been reading ALOT of comments by Met fans on the Mets facebook page and baseball fever and they aint pretty at all! This is the only forum where Sonny pretty much says positive things about the players. Some of the comments are just harsh and uncalled for. The typical comments are"sell the team", "trade all players", "they all suck". Its really been a downer to read these comments and yes Murphy did mess up yesturday, but big dam deal, no one is perfect. Murphy to me has beat all my expectations for this season and he is working his ass off. Robby Cano has more errors this year than all of last year, but do people bash him? Justin Turner seems to be a ray of sunshine, but it seems that the fans dont give a crap. I honestly think the Wilpons need to sell and to someone that really cares about the team, its history and such.

I will admit, my comment about Dwright was stupid and uncalled for a few weeks ago, but after weeks of reading all these negative comments from different boards, i changed my tune. Dwright just pissed me off, but i still love and respect him as a person and a player(he is still in my top 3 favorite players along with Mauer and Tex) and i regret that post i posted. Its seems whoever runs the Mets facebook page doesnt post as much about after the games as they use to. Its all negative comments!!

I think a true Met fan would be postive and support the team no matter what..remember when they first started in 1962, they sucked for the first couple of years and were just terrible. But the fans still came out and supported the team. Hasnt always been the history with this team?? Early 60's, late 70's to early 80's, early 90's when the team sucked, but people still supported the team and the phrase "You gotta beleive" really came into place. I honestly think the hate isnt with the players, but with the Wilpons and the Front office. The players are trying their best to play and i really like Terry Colins.

I applogize to Sonny and others that comment on this thread, but i had to get it off my chest. I know this is more suited for Baseball Fever forum, but i just wanted to rant a little!! There are more rants (lack of history, where is the love for William Shea and Jane Payson at the stadium) and people saying bring back banner day (a true fan experiance prior to Wilposn reign of terror). But i will say, i and ALL MET FANS just need stay postive and focus on a hopefully a bright future for this ball club (i hope that Wright and Reyes are part of it).

GO METS and GO NY

gtru, Thank you so much for that terrific post I appreciate what you wrote and happy to hear your fellings abut the Mets and DWright in particular. No apoligies needed I welcome all comments here both positve and negative I only ask that there is a fair mix. But as you said sometimes we just gotta "get it off our chest" God knows I have done it many times. ;)

Last nights game was a lot of fun the Mets did well against Phillies pitching. But then in the 8th things got real ugly and it was down hill from there. I guess it started with K-Rod who did not pitch well followed by Murphy failing to field a ground ball which gave the Philadelphia Phillies a 4-3 lead.
Murph misplayed it, his intent was to start a 3-6-3 double play, but the ball scooted under his glove and into the outfield, allowing the go-ahead run to score. Murph thought it was gonna take a different hop and blames himself for not staying on it. Making things worse for his day as the at bat that followed in the ninth when he had a chance to redeem himself with a hit to either tie or win the game. With two men on what we were hoping for was a three run homer giving us a walk off win but instead Murph grounded into a 4-6-3 double play. Ouch! Murph came up to the plate thinking I have to have a good at-bat here but it did not turn out that way when the Phillies pitcher threw him that sinker. Not a good day for the Irish Hammer. :(

Getting back to K-rod, what the Hell was wrong with the Mets fans at Citi last night booing him like that.
The guy has been lights out for us going back to spring training and did not deserve that. Shame on you Mets fans it wasn’t K-Rod that “sucked” last night it was you fools who in my opinion are not true baseball fans.

Good to see David Wright back in the dugout last night, he has begun an exercise regimen to strengthen the muscles around his lower back stress fracture. David thinks the exercises will quicken the healing process. But there are still several hurdles to be cleared before he returns to baseball activities; good news is that he is feeling good. David took the high road when asked about the Wilpon superstar remark, adding that his parents sent him a text that read “you are our superstar” can I get an awwww? :D

The news on R.A. Dickey’s injury is positive he does not expect to miss his next start. He will throw a bull pen on Sunday and how that goes will determine if he will pitch his next game on Tuesday. Still, the Mets did make some roster moves after the injury in preparation for what might have to follow. Dale Thayer was brought up from Buffalo, and as expected Fernando Martinez was sent back down. In addition Pat Misch who has been struggling was designated for assignment.
But just in case Dickey needs a few more days after his scheduled start the Mets have an eye on bringing up a kid you may not know by the name of Chris Schwinden who is lighting things up in Buffalo, the Mets might just bring him up to fill in. Chris is one of those guys flying under the radar you may not have heard much about. He came up to Buffalo from AA Binghamton in mid April basically to fill some holes from the depletion of the team that had occurred. But he has been pitching really well, his ERA currently is 2.36 ERA in eight starts for Buffalo. When I saw him pitch my first thought was he has a really good fastball and cutter. He throws a mean regular fastball and a cut fastball. It was like he was using it like a slider. I also saw a very nice curve ball and lemme tell ya If he can mix all of those pitches up, he’s gonna be awesome I would expect him to keep even the big boy hitter off balance.
He is also working on a curveball and changeup. I hope he makes it up soon so you can give him a look you are gonna like what you see.

Other observation last night, holy smoke how about that a 16-pitch walk that Ruben Tejada just worked, awesome! :=D:

I have to say I was very disappointed in Collins decision to pull Capuano after 78 pitches to pinch hit Harris, how did that go for us Collins??? Chris was brilliant last night and should never have been taken out so early, it was a big bad goofy management decision.
I have one more bone to pick with Collins; can you explain why you are not using Nick Evans at all? That kid was called up to give us power on the bench and you have used him only once, what is up with that. He would be better off going back to buffalo where at least he would play. You do know Nick can play all three outfield positions right? as well as second and third. Maybe you forgot he is here, I know he is a very quite kid but look around the dugout he is the player with the clean unused uniform usually sitting next to Justin Turner, yeah that’s him the one wit the put me in coach look on his face. PUT HIM IN! Maybe you could give Bay a day off, yeah I know that would be tough on the team with him hitting so well and all  but sit him down and let Nick play at left… please. At the very least give him the bat to pinch hot from time to time instead of the tired ole Harris and Hairston show.

No new Ike Davis news he is still working in the pool and inside no outside work still. He knows I am thinking about him and how he is doing. I got a text yesterday “Promise will call Monday” so hopefully I will have more to tell you then.

:(

Geez boys, why so much hating on the Phillies.

One day the Mets will get their chance. ;)

Hi Sonny

Well after two games of crap from the bullpen, and a missing offense, the Mets turned it on to win on Sunday. Two good starting jobs by Capuano and Pelfrey go to waste due to lack of hitting and a subpar performance by the 'pen. Yesterday the bats made it easy for Jon Niese to pitch a relaxed game. An eight run lead after two innings, where has that been all year?!? Reyes, two more triples, Thole breaks out with 3 RBI, we need more performances like this from the lineup to win more than we lose. Let's get some against these Pirates, starting today! Let's go Mets!!!

Hey Scrub how are ya girl, (*8*) those where three great games, and you do realize that if it had been for our pen we mighta swept those Phillies.
We had outstanding starting pitching all three games but in the first two games the pen, which syam correctly called said "crap" let us down. But that’s how it always goes for the Mets something mucking it up.
Fact is had the pen held it together we could have swept cause what I did not realize till then is that the phillies are not hitting all that well your strength is all in the pitching which is hat keeps them on top, lose that are you are going to be in trouble.
Not that I am wishing you any bad luck there of course
We will getcha next time

Still waiting word on if R.A. Dickey will be allowed to pitch Tuesday. Dickey said after the bull pen session yesterday that he was good to go but he still has pain in his right heel when he runs hard but that it won’t affect his pitching. But I dono about that, I mean what about his offense, can he run the bases should he get a hit and what about if he needs to cover first on a play can he run that out. Nah I say if there is pain let him sit a few more days, but what do I know it will Collins decision which he will make before game tonight.

The lineup for tonight will be Reyes, Turner, Beltran, Murphy, Pagan, Harris, Tejada with Thole catching Gee.
Bay is out of the lineup I am not sure if that tightness he felt in his calf the other day has anything to do with it but Collins said it was just a scheduled day off. Ok Terry what ever you say.
Beltran who felt a little tightness in his hammy the other day is fine and back in the lineup.

Loved good news like this, Mark Cohoon has been promoted from Binghamton to Buffalo.

Pictured below Jason Isringhausen, Mike Pelfrey, Justin Turner with 99th Regional Support Command aboard Intrepid, and Nick Evans presenting the American flag with the Mets Honoring Sgt. Jaime Balderrama, as Veteran of the Game by the New York Mets. . "Veteran of the Game" is part of the "Welcome Back Veterans," program, a national public awareness and fundraising initiative supporting America's war veterans and their families.

So a major event since I wrote my post this morning ^^Jose Reyes is on his way to the Dominican Republic. His paternal grandmother died she was 80 years He goes on 3-7 day bereavement and will miss the entire Pirates series. Changes in the lineup include Tejada taking over in short Harris moves to 3b and batting first (today only Pagan moved into the #1 hole starting tomorrow) Turner moves to 2b. Pridie takes over at right Bay will still get the night off. Rest of the lineup same as originally set. Bobby Parnell is up from Buffalo (activated from the DL, technically) to take Reyes' roster spot.

Dickey has convinced Collins to make the start tomorrow so I guess he is running better.

Finally heard from Ike Davis, I have been telling you guys how his injury just won’t heal and has everybody concerned. So now the decision has been made that enough is enough we need to look deeper into this So Ike is back in NY for an MRI later today the result of which I will report tomorrow I expect to spend some time with him and learn more. I have to say I am a bit concerned this has been going on way to long but at least maybe tonight’s test we will learn more and get that injury fixed. As of last night he still could not run except on a submerged treadmill. Ike said if you look at bone bruises in your ankle joint, they can be pretty nasty, it’s obviously taken a little longer than I thought. I didn't know that a bone bruise in your ankle joint would take a long time to heel, and it has for some reason. I can tell you guys he’s bummed out by being sidelined this long.

More tomorrow

Ankle injuries can be very tricky, usually they say it's better to break it than just sprain it, recoveries can take months. When I saw the way he "gimped" off the field when injured, I figured it would be longer than two weeks to heal. Last nite's effort by Dillon Gee was another in a string of solid performances by him. It was especially gratifying to see the Mets scratch out some runs without the "A" lineup available. Josh Thole's big two RBI double and Justin Turner's double were big hits. We've gotten a week's worth of hits in just two games, scares me to think what we might see the rest of this week. Two in a row, Let's go Mets!!

So Ike Davis’ trip back to NY started off badly. First his flight was delayed and then cancelled; the next flight he could get on went to Newark instead of LaGuardia, which delayed him getting to the hospital. All in all the delays were too much and Ike ended up not seeing a doctor until yesterday morning.
The MRI showed no further damage to his ankle, we feared it might be a stress fracture but it’s just a bad bruise. Thing is Ike has not been resting it enough and not giving it a fair chance to heal so the doc put a boot on it which he will wear for about three weeks. I say "about" cause there is a chance that if Ike feels better they will reevaluate and take it off but he has to behave himself and stay off that foot which is something he just has not been doing. So the important thing here is that it hasn’t been re-characterized as anything other than a bone bruise, as the doctor explained it a bone bruise can become a stress fracture. That is why he has the the boot which will pretty much immobilize his left ankle and help it heal. So what can he do now? Well he cannot attempt to run basically sidelined for much or maybe all of June, perhaps even until just before the All-Star break. He can still play catch and swing a bat but cannot field ground balls or run. What the doctor said was There's still a hot spot on the bone and taking pressure and load off that bone will allow it to heal, So Ike is down but I was happy to see that he accepted the news pretty well I think it was a relief to know the thing did not get worse and he is not healing cause he keeps aggravating it something he has promised not to do anymore. Terry Collins mad a nice gesture this morning telling Ike he will allow him to be around the team, just to keep his spirits up. I loved hearing that it will be great for Ike to be with the team especially around Murphy after what he who went thru last year.

Jose Reyes is expected to fly back to NY tonight to rejoin the team tomorrow

David Wright will have X-rays tomorrow and be reevaluated with a possible move up to the next phase in his recovery.

We have to give a big shout out to RA Dickey and the way he manned up thru the pain and pitched brilliantly last night till that 8th inning and then Parnell. Parnell is still struggling with that circulation issue in his middle finger which he said he may have for the rest of his career. He has bad circulation in his finger, which is really affecting his pitching. Last year, he had less velocity and his ball was in the zone more, but not much movement. Now, he’s throwin heat but he’s all over the place. His slider is very unimpressive as well he’s just tossin it out there, and it’s not working.

Of course with my boy Ike down I am pleased as punch to se my other boy Murphy performing so well. Doing a great job at third, but I expected that cause I saw him play third most of his minor career and if not for DWright Daniel would be at third all the time. Murph has hit .417 in his past ten games.

Pat Misch cleared waivers again and has reported back to the Buffalo Bisons.

Ike Davis is feeling better now since he can walk more comfortably with the boot on. His spirits are better and he said that he still intends to coach Coleman Country campers when he visits The Ranch in Merrick on Long Island in July. He made that commitment and it would tale more than a bad ankle to keep him from going. He should be just about recovered by then. Ike wants to participate and offer inspiration to these kids by teaching them to lead by example and understanding that actions speak louder than words. Ike will be a real role model to the group. I will go there with a bunch of I Like Ike shirts to donate and lead the “I like Ike” chants. :D

Ya had to love Daniel Murphys pinch hit against the lefty yesterday, who says Muph can't hit lefties ;)

Justin Turner has been named NL Rookie of the Month for May. He is the first Met to win the award since it was created in 2001. Justin set a franchise rookie record by driving in runs in seven straight games last month. By driving in runs in 13 games in a 15-game stretch, he became the first rookie to do so since 1930, and the third in major league history. He is also batting a not too shabby .414 with runners in scoring position and .245 with the bases empty

Taylor Buchholz was placed on the disabled list to make room on the roster for Jose Reyes. They're calling it a fatigued shoulder. The move will give guys like Parnell and Evans a little more breathing time till the next move.

Mike O'Connor was sent back to Buffalo, and Manny Acosta has been promoted back up. You may remember Collins singling out Mike in his lack of execution speech the other day adding that O'Connor just wasn’t making his pitches in recent appearances. No coincidence that a few hours later, the Mets optioned O'Connor to Buffalo. Manny Acosta is expected to fill O'Connor's roster spot; Acosta is 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA in 19 appearances in Buffalo.

I probably won’t be around posting this weekend or next, this week I start workouts with my Long Island team
(I pitch for those who do not know). Then next weekend I will be with the Cyclones. The Cyclones opening day is Saturday June 18th after a game away on Friday the 17th with the SI Yankees
I will jump in when I can if any news develops.

RA Dickey dazed and confused those poor Braves hitters with a pitch combo that had them totally baffled. Prolly cause in eight innings he threw more sinkers than he usually does in the early innings, and later his knuckler was moving beautifully although you might have noticed it wasn’t moving the way it was last time out. He seemed to be battling just a tad getting on the side now end then, but still it was awesome to watch. The braves did not know what to expect..Poor babies. Yup it was a joy to watch RA dominate the Braves, oh..and knock around Tim Hudson as well was just the cherry on the ole pie. He also threw something in the area of 50 strikes.

So here we were in the top if the eighth and all the pen had to do was get three outs. THREE STINKLIN OUTS!! But no not our pen, ](*,) first they had to torcher us give up three runs instead and come thisclose to blowin the game. I Ioved that Collins gave Acosta a shot but he blew it, I actually felt really bad for the kid as Collins took the ball. Then Frankie Rodriguez come up and really made things scary, with runners on second and third and one out, Rodriguez surrendered a three-run bomb to Diory Hernandez, a player by the way who had only hit two big league home runs prior to tonight. But K-Rod got it together and struck next two Braves out. Terry Collins is wondering whether Rodriguez was suffering through a period of arm fatigue.(dead arm) It was a scary scary inning cause had we blown that Mets fans woulda stormed the field and beat up K_Rod for sure, enough is enough with that pen..

Then there was the game Dillon Gee pitched, GOLLY GEE what a treat it is to watch him pitch. I mean think back; there was no room on the New York Mets opening day roster for Dillon, but then when it was clear that there were issues with the Mets starting rotation Dillon got the call in mid April a very smart move on our part. Gee now has a 3.33 ERA to go along with his 6-0 record. And by the way he has become the first rookie starter in Mets history to start a season with six straight wins. :=D: If you watched the game you prolly noticed he kept up pitch for pitch with Jair Jurrjens who is without a doubt one of the best out there.

Our starting rotation of Gee, Dickey, Capianno, Niese and Pelf makes watching Mets baseball darn right awesome. Pelf scares me a bit but the other four are truly awesome.
Now if the pen could only get back on track.

Without our big guns Wright and Davis the guys filling in like Murph, Turner and Tejada are playing outstanding ball. Rubin’s defense just gets better and better and I can certainly see him as our shortstop of the near future, but now his offense has picked up as well a real treat to watch,
Murph of course continues to rock batting .451 (23-for-51) over his last 14 games. He just finished 2-for-3 to extend his hitting streak to eight games. He has seven multi-hit games during the streak, compiling a .568 (17-for-30) average over that time. Just so ya know, over his last 16 games, Murphy is hitting .466
(27-for-5) with seven runs, three doubles, one home run and seven RBIs. I keep track of those things :D

Justin Turner is batting .343 (24-for-70) in his last 20 home games. He also has 21 RBIs in his last 21 games overall.

Did you see Ike Davis in the dugout all weekend? I told you guys the other day how Collins invited Ike to stay in NY for a few days before returning to Florida just to hang lout and keep his morale up and man oh man has that ever worked out well, Ike loved it. You may have seen him in the tunnel after the game high fiving the guys as they headed for the locker room. It just made me feel so good knowing he was feeling so good. In Florida he could not even watch the games cause his Florida hotel does not broadcast the games. He tried a little fishing, which is his second love after baseball, but even that was not going well and he ended up spending much of his time in the room watching movies. So staying here with the ream was the best thing for him to do as he heals. As you know the team has given him a full three weeks off from running in hopes of letting his ankle heal. The hope as of now is for his return before the All-Star break or just after. It’s a weird injury that is just going to have to take time to fully heal, perhaps the way it happened when he and David ran into each other, Ike rolled onto his ankle, and David kneed him in the shin, pretty much It kind of drove his shinbone down a little bit, at an awkward angle which is how we believe his two bones scraped. As I explained to you guys he will keep wearing a protective boot for at least three more weeks except when he is sleeping. He has totally stopped running and hitting in an effort to let the bone bruise heal and will continue ankle strengthening before undergoing a magnetic resonance imaging exam. He will begin some rehab work this week in Florida on the road to recovery but this weekend here in NY was just what he needed. I will keep in touch and let you know how he is doing.

Carlos Beltran had an x-ray on that ankle and it came up negative so a couple of days off and he should be fine. That was a pretty scary sight watching him go down like that in such pain. If he needs a day or two more Prodie will fill in at right field

The team left for Milwaukie just after midnight last night to start a three game series with the Brewers Capuano will pitch the first game on Tuesday. It should be interesting for Chris pitching against his old Brewers team mates

The draft begins tonight, and Paul DePodesta and Sandy Alderson have said they will spend where warranted, not stick to MLB's spending guidelines. DePodesta said this morning that On draft day he thinks we're going into it with the idea that when our turn comes to pick in every round, we're going to take the guy that we think is the best player on the board and not worry so much about the signability portion of it. Basically what I read into that is that they are going to go after what we believe is talent.

A really nice job by the starters over the weekend aagainst the Braves, should have been sweep! Dillon Gee was awesome, and RA Dickey pitched superbly as well. Some clutch hitting got the runs when needed, Turner keeps driving home runs, Murph is hot, Pagan has been hitting since returning from the DL, and Reyes is your All Star shortstop IMO. If we can get anything from Jason Bay, we'd be in good shape, especially if the bullpen reverts to getting outs instead of giving up hits/runs. If we can keep our heads above water on this 10 game trip, we may have something to look forward to the rest of the summer. Let's go METS!!

A great way to start off the road trip. Fine pitching by Capuano, followed by the bullpen work of Beato, Izzy, and KRod. Only real mistake all nite was the pitch the Prince hit to the next kingdom. Jose Reyes' 11th triple drove home the two runs needed, he's on fire right now. Was glad to see Beltran in the lineup following his foul ball injury on Sunday. Can we make it two in a row in "Beer Town"? Let's go METS!!

Good posts Syam; it sure does feel good to see our starting pitching performing so well. They have all been outstanding. Last night Capuano continued that with an excellent outing. You also mentioned the pen which I also commented on a few times which has been dreadful, but over last few games they seem to be going back to pitching as they did earlier in he season. Last night for example they closed the game with three perfect innings, Pedro Beato, Jason Isringhausen and K-Rod pitched brilliantly. So maybe this is the beginning if a turn around for our pen. I have to do the math but the pens ERA was above 10 last week so now at last they have dropped below that

Of course it is very exciting to see those minor league guys playing so well and keeping us in the game while the big boys are out. I think one of the best things has to be Tejada hitting so well his defense has been awesome but his offense was a struggle but now he is hitting really well. Credit that to hitting Coach Dave Hudgens who has been working with Rubin and helping him with things like his patience at the plate. Murphy learned that early in his career and is very patient; Ike Davis finally learned to do that as well this season. Rubin has learned to be patient and wait for a good ball to hit and that is what he has been doing. Daniel and Ike know, and now Rubin understands, that things like pulling the ball with power when you are ahead in the count and hitting the ball thru the middle infield when you are behind are the way to play the game and it is paying off. Turner is practicing that as well. If only Jason Bay could figure himself out; I have watched him at the plate and kiddies I dono what is up with that guy. He swings at balls late then he swings too early, he is taking strikes and swinging at balls, he’s a mess. I can’t even get irritated with him anymore cause I really feel bad for him. Thank goodness for his defense which is impeccable the guy plays a mean right field. Speaking of that how about that kid Carlos Gomez who is now with the Brewers, he made some amazing plays last night. Makes you wonder if we did the right thing trading him. Of course we did get Santana in that deal :D

I had a phone conversation with Nick Evans late last night, we kinda saw this coming but last night the Mets made it official and designated him for assignment. Nick came back up from Buffalo mid May when DWright went down and has not been able to hit worth a lick struggling mightily even against the lefties which he usually owns. What happens now is he will be exposed to waivers, but there is little doubt that he will clear. Here is where he has to make a decision I know what it is but I’m not gonna comment on it till he does. What I will say is that because he has been outrighted before, he now has the right to declare free agency instead of going back to Buffalo; his salary played a role in his decision. I have been friends with Nick for a while now and I have written about him many times here, this is just another disappointing setback for Nick.

Nick's leaving opens a roster spot and it’s a pretty sure bet that Lucas Duda will be back today in Pittsburgh. Duda has been tearing it up in Buffalo with seven homers in 14 games. He can play right field with Pridie while Bay is out and he can platoon at first with Murphy as Nick did. But I think that Duda will play first base sending Murphy back to third since Turner has cooled down lately. Justin may just be showing signs of wearing down cause he is not used to so much consistent playing time at the major league level. He was 0-for-7 in the last series, and hitting .220 in his past 10 games. So Daniel Murphy is prime to take over at third till DWright comes back with Lucas Duda at first.

I’m gonna be in Brooklyn all weekend but after that I will spend some quality time with Evans seeing how he is doing, gotta get him out on the golf course and let him relax.

Well, the bullpen gave away Wed nite's game after a big 5 run rally in the top half of the eighth, including Paulino's first Met HR, to put the Mets up 6-2, but Beato and Izzy gave 4 runs back in the bottom of the eighth, and Thayer game up the winning run in the ninth.

Last nite, however, Jonathon Niese pitched superbly, with KRod closing out the ninth after getting the last out of the eighth. A nice win, series win, could have been a sweep, just like the Braves series, but the bullpen has become inconsistent lately. On to Pittsburgh with Gee on the mound tonite. Let's go Mets!!

Well, another 2 out 3 series, that's 6 of 9, a nice pace to be on, and it could have been better. The starting pitching continues to rock, with Capuano throwing shutout ball on Sunday. Contributions throughout the lineup, even Bay got a RBI, and Hairston a homerun. The Mets are playing decent ball, and the starters give them a shot to win, virtually every nite. Let's go Mets!!

Hey guys sorry I have not posted in a few days I have been running on fumes dealing with so many things at once like my job, the Brooklyn Cyclones my own team which has started workouts.

Syam, I would agree about our starting pitching which I would say is as good as any major league team right now they have all performed magnificently and have a 2.54 ERA over their last 18 games, the pen is still leaking and very worrisome but with the starters going so deep into games we have not had to use them much. Perhaps that’s a part of the problem those guys in the pen do not get much action and they have gotten stale.
Manny (Perez)Acosta scares me to death
Sure would be nice if our bats would help out more; the lack of run support for our starters is pretty lame and must improve. Dave Hudgens your up, you need to figure out what is going on here.

So now the press (they think they are so cute) have begun calling the Mets “Buffalo Mets” cause of all the minor leaguers we have on the team now. Well maybe we are but I give Alderson credit for bringing these kids up and Collins making the decision not to work with what we go but making what we got work. I can not describe the thrill for me to see these guys play in the majors many of whom I have gotten to know watching and supporting them during their time in Brooklyn with the Cyclones and the Bisons in Buffalo. I spend as much the free time I can with both those teams during the summer months watching them develop following their careers, I love to pitch and I love my family but beyond that nothing gives me greater pleasure than being with these guys.

The Mets defense has been stellar but the base running well… maybe not so much. As many of you know Daniel Murphy is a good friend of mine but even I had to text him and jokingly told him to get his head out of his butt. I did it as a joke not to make him feel bad cause the kid is very sensitive to the problem he has been having and no one knows better than I do that he does it with the best intensions as misguided as it may sometimes be. Yesterday for example he strayed way too far off second base. He is so intense about his game it can be scary he just needs to think a little more before he acts of course that takes experience cause we are talking about split second decisions here. Murph got into Atlanta like 3 in the morning and is going to call me later today about something we are doing with Nick Evans, I promise not to be too hard on him and his base running. Let’s not forget his bat which even against lefties has been awesome. His defense at first and second has also been excellent. As to that bad play at third the other day hey look I have seen DWright mess that up a few times, it happens.

I have not spoken to Ike Davis since he left NY just e-mail and text but he is feeling better and believes there is improvement in the ankle, he goes back to the doctor next Wednesday and hopefully we will get good news; he is still wearing the boot.

DWright also goes for new x-rays next week so his return date may be clearer as well.

As for Santana, I get from the people I talk with that there is an increasing chance we will not see him pitch in 2011 many also believe that when he does return he will never be the Santana of ole. But those who say that need to remember that he is Johan Santana, a fighter who overcomes all odds as well a professional who does not understand the meaning of defeat.

We really need to do well in Atlanta

Let’s Go Mets
