New York Mets 2011

Today all I want to write about is updates on Davis,Wright and Reyes.

If you read my stuff you know I have been keeping you up to date on Ike just about everyday, and this weekend was going to be the big test on his ankle. Well over the last few days I told you he had had very good success on the treadmill running with a thingy on his ankle as not to put full weight on it. It started Thursday when he ran the treadmill with about 45 pounds of support, then Friday he dropped to like 35 pounds and that went very well. Yesterday he put his full weight down on the ankle with no support and guess what?? NO PAIN! So it is looking more and more like he will recover and not need the surgery. The big teat come tomorrow (Monday) when he will run on the track and if that goes well he is going to be well on his way to full recovery. So everyone send positive vibes to the Ike man for tomorrow. I am betting he will be up at the crack of dawn so we should know very early tomorrow how it goes, I cant see him sleeping much tonight. I just wondering if he will get thru the day today (Sunday)without getting tempted to try running, the plan is to wait until Monday morning but Ike is just so hyped up on how well it has been going I jus don’t know if he will hold out till then.

David Wright ran at nearly full speed in Port St. Lucie, yesterday and expects to start full running and sliding on Monday, if that goes well he will begin on Wednesday in a minor league rehab game. He will need in the area of 30-40 minor league at-bats before his activation.

Jose Reyes has also been doing really well, you may recall I guessed his return to be about the 22nd and now that looks like a real possibility, he started taking grounders and swinging a bat on Saturday.

What all this adds up to is the return of all three of theses guys very soon; expect Wright to be back right after Reyes on the 22nd after some rehab games and Ike could be right behind them. We still have to wait for Ike to do that crucial last test running on the track and then see the doctor to have some pictures taken and get a full diagnosis on the ankle but then if it all goes well Ike can start resuming baseball activities and rehab.
Oh happy day. :D
Ike’s ring tone on my phone is the Stones “Start me up” and you can bet I am waiting very anxiously for that next call. While I may be far down near the bottom of the list of people he will call he has promised to call just about everyone he knows with news good or bad.

Check lout this video he made just a dew days ago.

So yesterday I told you guys Ike Davis was going to try running without any ankle support on a track rather than a treadmill and that he prolly won’t make it all the way till Monday (today) without trying it out. Well sure enough he said “This thing is either healed or it’s not, lets do this” It went great he felt no pain at all it felt totally normal. He spoke to Alderson who said give it a couple more days keep running and if all is well by Thursday he could come back to NY to begin rehab and workouts. The team will be back on the field at Citi on Thursday late afternoon to get ready for the Phillies series this weekend.
Collins wanted to give his boys a full 3 and a half days rest so he scheduled the Thursday workouts for 6pm.

Ok ok so I have to mention Nick Evans pinch hit homer in yesterday’s game, how excited to you think I was to see that. On the dark side Murph has got to stop making those third base errors, he has just got to.
He is a very god third baseman, I have been watching him play that position well almost all of his career so I dono what is up with that.

The boys all flew back to NY to go their separate ways to spend the break with family and friends. Taking a separate flight was Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes who flew with the Giants players to the All-Star Game.
Terry Collins went to Virginia to begin work on selling his house there.

Four days without Mets baseball but I am going to spend the time with the minor league boys. Wednesday I will be in Brooklyn with my boy Danny Muno and the Cyclones, and then Thursday I head up to Buffalo with the Bisons. Evans wanted to make the trip but now the Mets have workouts that day so he won’t be going to Buffalo. If anything cool happens on either trip I will tell you guys about it. Both games will be televised by SNY if you wanna check em out. Kevin Burkhardt will not do the play by play this time he just left for a two weeks vacation with the wife and son, the king of all field reporters will be back on the air July 22nd.

Dono if any of you guys are interested in the Futures game which was played yesterday in Phoenix
Matt Harvey came on for the final out and got the save… how cool!
Mike Piazza managed the U.S. team which beat the World, 6-4.

A pretty decent first half by the Mets, considering all the injuries, we've gotten to see some of the future perform earlier than expected with some good results. Tejada will be much better for all his playing time at this level. Josh Turner has shown his gutsy persona with lots of clutch hits. Murphy has hit on a pretty consistent basis. I hope we can get off to a good start in the second half, even though we'll be up against the Phils and their vaunted pitching rotation. Let's Go Mets!!

Well said Syam, the most exciting part about the Mets first half performance is that we did it with most of our big guns down for much of the time. Without Wright, Santana, Reyes and Davis we are still one game above 500 and that is sweet. Thanks of course to Terry Collins Dave Hugdens and Dan Warthen who led the team with a bunch of scrappy minor leaguers (ya gotta know how I love my minor leaguers) who proved they could play with the big boys and play well. Loved what Collins said about not crying about what we did not have but celebrating the guys we do have and go our there and win.

All Star game tonight and Jose Reyes is there even thou he can’t play he want dot be in spirit and appreciation for havin been chosen. Out of the Four times he has been selected to the All-Star Game he has only been able to play once.. He brought a bunch of supporters with him, his wife and three daughters as well as his mom and dad. His hamstring is making progress; he ran a bit in San Francisco on Sunday and said it felt the muscle is getting better. While at the All star game he plans to ride a stationary bicycle and walk on a treadmill. After the game he will head back to NY and visit the doctor in the Long Island, rehab facility where he worked as he recovered from surgery two years ago.

Carlos Beltran starts All-Star Game, batting second for NL he will DH This is his sixth trip to the All-Star Game Rest of the lineup for the NL are Ricky Weeks at second, Matt Kemp in center, Prince Fielder at first, Brian McCann catches, Lance Berkmanat at right, Matt Holliday at left, Troy Tulowitzki plays short, Scott Rolen will be at third and Roy Halladay on the mound. The AL??? who cares

Ike Davis continues to run “Like a cougar” and is still hopeful of being back in NY
this weekend for workouts with the Mets.

Johan Santana is ready to face batters.

DWright will begin a rehab assignment in St. Lucie Wednesday. Terry Collins is going down to visit David on Wednesday.

Davis, Wright and Reyes all back shortly after the break…..OH MY :D

Of course the big question will be who goes down when they return. Well, Evans and Duda probably then that leaves Murphy Tejada and Turner, who goes who stays?
For me of course we keep Murph, that bat has been outstanding, the bigger question is Turner and Tejada, they both have strengths and weaknesses, tough decision. Of course there could always be an upset with Hairston so we will have to wait and see what happens. What do you guys think?

I have not commented on the Hone Run Derby simply because I think it is the goofiest thing we do in baseball and have no use for it at all. Oh please let me watch some dude toss a 65MPH fastball to a major league hitter and watch him hit it out of the park…please

K-rod jsut got traded to the Brewers. Didn't see that one coming.

Well, KRod did get traded to the Brew Crew, which should pave the way for the Mets to be able to make a substantial offer to keep Jose Reyes for the future. By getting rid of KRod's salary and possible 17.5 Million option salary for next season, the Mets should have $$$ available for Jose. Beltran's salary will also be gone after this season, if not before via trade. Will be interesting to see how Collins and Warthen handle the closer role now with Izzy and Parnell the lead candidates.

As far as who will be sent down when the wounded players return, I'll just wait and see how it works out. With the Mets there always seems to be an injury just around the corner for someone, so it may work itself out without too much stress. It could be a "good" problem to have. If it comes down to Turner or Tejada, I would send down Tejada, because of his age, continue to work the hitting game. Turner has paid his dues in the minors and is doing fine. Well, bring on the Phillies, Lets Go Mets!!!

Not surprised by that all. As soon as I heard Scott Boraus was his new agent I expected something to happen with K-Rods future with the Mets. I always figured that the vesting option in his contract would cause the Mets to trade Rodriguez. Plus ya know that Boras was going to want a trade or the like, since he doesn't get commission on the previous contract. The Mets could have just eaten the year's salary and the buyout and trade him to one of the teams not on his no-trade list. That way they would have saved like 12 million over letting the option vest, but now the Mets will eat about $5 million. The deal along with the cash includes two players to be named later, usually that would mean minor leaguers. The deal basically covers every dollar due to him through the end of this season, while the Brewers will have to deal with his $3.5 million buyout and his 2012 option.
I could not see the Mets paying $17 million to a reliever not even K-Rod who pitches just 70 innings. This way too the Mets move the money and a player, who lets face it aint cutting it like he used to. I like that we get two prospects, AND we pick up about $30 million to spend on new acquisitions this winter. Keep in mind K-Rod is only 20-21 finishes away from the big payout that $17.5M option for 2012 that automatically vests when Frankie finishes his 55th game. I think that kind of money in 2012 would be hard for us to swallow right now so it had to be done, and I am not concerned at all about the competitiveness the Mets have now in any race. Nope we need to find a way to avoid paying $17.5M to a closer next year. I wondered hoe Collins was gonna be able to keep K-Rod from finishing games or get into trouble with the major league players association. The best way out of this was to trade him to another team. As for his replacement I hear that Alderson will be speaking to us later today maybe he will shed some light on that question but you have to think Bobby Parnell or Jason Isringhausen at least for the short-term, but of course another option could be to choose to do a closer by committee that would include Pedro Beato or Tim Byrdak. If you think about Byrak, you think lots of swings and misses, so why not put him out there, showcase if you will in a closer role for a week or two to develop more interest in him as trade bait. Sandy just made his bullpen a whole lot more cost-efficient.

As to who replaced replaces K-Rod on the roster, we won’t know till prolly Friday Of course there is always Ryota Igarashi, Dale Thayer, Pat Misch and Mike O'Connor.

I am going to go to Buffalo tomorrow to watch my friend Miguel Batista pitch, if he does not pitch I am betting it will be cause they may decided to call him up, he is a closer and could help us out with the closing spot here and there.

I checked in with Danny Muno who I will be hanging with tonight Brooklyn with the Cyclones, he is coming back after missing 12 days with a ring finger injury he got doing pregame infield drills.
He is feeling good and looking forward to tonight… me too kid.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis told me he is gonna get a second opinion tomorrow on that left shoulder issue before deciding on surgery.

David Wright's first rehab game has been pushed back to Friday.

Another setback for Ike Davis.
He was doing really well running without pain for a few days, then Tuesday early in the day he felt some discomfort, but later that day and Wednesday it was fine again But then Thursday morning “it hurt like a bitch” he felt significant pain in his ankle so he called the doctor who was in North Carolina who told Ike to come there right away. Ike left for NC and the doctor gave him a cortisone shot which he hopes will relieve any significant pain. But Ike was also warned that if the pain did not subside he may have to revisit the surgery idea to repair the injury. For now he is back in NY today and is going to have to stay off the ankle for the next three weeks and go from there, so we are basically back to square one. Ike said that if he is not taking steps to play by three weeks, then there's something structurally wrong, he also said again that he wants to avoid surgery which is not fun and he also worries that sometimes you don’t feel the same after, Ike also said he is trying to do as much as he can; the cortisone shot is just to see if he can push forward without having the surgery. If there is any positive news in what the doctor said it is that the diagnosis wasn’t any different, he is not worse and that the cortisone shot might be useful at this point. The Mets doctors agreed, so they went ahead and did it. Alderson said they want to get him running, fully unloaded, for a period of time. Hopefully then he’ll be able to get back to baseball activity.
Obviously this sucks I feel so bad for that kid he was so upbeat looking forward to joining the Mets this weekend for some workouts and possibly begin rehab and now this. I tell you guys he sounded so down that I just felt like crap all day yesterday. I was planning a trip to Buffalo to watch the Bisons but I just did not feel like it after that Ike news, he now has to face three more weeks AGAIN of uncertainty and concern.
One thing that sticks in my craw and I cant let go of is something I wrote about a week or so ago about the boot Ike was told to wear and that real possibility that the decision to have him wear that thing during his rehab could have slowed down the healing. Apparently it was cutting off the blood supply to his ankle and that could not have been good. Eventually they realized that was a possible problem and Ike stopped wearing the boot but was it too little too late it seems the cartilage problem he developed due to a lack of circulation in his ankle caused by the protective boot. A lot of us close to Ike are asking that question again today.
Even if Ike is cleared in three weeks to start running and avoids surgery, his return will take a lot of time cause he would need to resume baseball activities, get back in proper physical condition and play rehab games. Still there is the possibility he could play in August and September.
We need to hang on to the hope of that possibility.

Meantime Jose Reyes is eligible to come off the disabled list Monday and his excellent progress is currently pointing towards a return on July 22nd which also happens to be the same day DWright could be back. David is set to play five innings in St. Lucie tonight (Friday)

Ryota Igarashi has been recalled from Buffalo to replace Francisco Rodriguez on the roster. What I have been told by the guys in Buffalo is that his fastball command has gotten much better that of course will set up the use of his splitter. Plus he has developed a nice curveball which I could see him using as his put away pitch.

Fucking shame Ike had a setback, knowing how close you guys are could see how bummed the ankle news made you feel, sonny. Also down about Kirk Nieuwenhuis' injury which you've written about.....seemed like the kid was really expanding fast as a player busting out of the gate this season and he gets hurt. With the Ike thing,as bad as the Mets have had it dealing with medical crises te past few years, constantly underplaying stuff that became season ending injuries requiring surgery how after the incompetent Minaya regime does SAndy Alderson let this happen?I just hope Ike doesn't have a permanent injury that will make him unable to ever be the player he could be...that would piss me off A LOT!Hopefully in three weeks things will be better,at least the injury at its core is still no worse but if he waits beyond another three weeks for surgery, can he be back by spring training fully healed?Just a great kid,and so much he does as a player and especially as a person it's so fucking a shame.

Hopefully the Reyes and Wright news continues positive and they indeed are back soon,as Santana.Saw a special on SNY about Wright(think it was filmed before the season started)and what a great person he is,what a total package he brings as a player, person, what he does for the community...thankfully though the Mets AAA club is in homestate Buffalo now,we were fortunate enough to get one of Virginia's best as a passionate Mets fan growing up in the Norfolk area and as a major leaguer....loved his stories about his dad and friends and family, and that several major leaguers growing up in the area and friends with David swear by him as a person.Hopefully by the end of nest weekend his rehab will be complete and his infectious presence will really help lift the spirits of the club and the fans that however we finish the season we're headed in the "Wright"direction(I had to use that!);)

So glad that they were able to rid themselves of K-Rod's 17.5 mil option and free more room for Jose Reyes.First, second, and third priority this offseason is retaining Jose and showing Mets fans even when the Mets may need to be more flexible in their payroll they seriously want to remain competitive and show good faith to the fan base.Whatever happens with trading Beltran, whatever moves we make keep us moving forward.I know if the Mets keep playing like Terry Collins has them going, even the setback losing 2 of 3 in San Diego after winning 3 of 4 in LA will only be a trip up and not a trend.....we're changing the spirit of the club and going in a direction that fans can get on board excitedly over but we gotta keep on!..|

Bring on the Phillies and the second half!Let's go Mets!!!:D

Yes Saucy, first of all I appreciate the thoughts about Ike, we are holding on to the hope that the cortisone will break down the inflammation and healing will begin properly. Otherwise he will have to have that micro fracture surgery where they make tiny holes to stimulate blood flow and start cartilage regeneration.
He is a special kid, I first met him in Brooklyn in 2009 and after that first game with the Cyclones I went with him a couple of players for some food and we became friends right off. I picked him as a future star pretty much right of the bat; he showed promise on the field and as I recall batted about .250 that year. This latest setback hit him hard at first but he bounced right back trying to be positive about the future. Keep in mind that at least he does have good days when the pain is not there so we are hopeful. I will be with him all day Sunday at his charity event so perhaps there will be more to tell you on Monday.

You certainly hit it the nail on the head abut Wright he is one of a kind, I have written about him many times no secret about the respect I have for him. Now if I could just get to know him :D

As to out Phillies series we really need to do some damage this weekend fortunately for us the pitching matchup except for Saturday is on our side we do not meet up with the a lot of the Philly big guns like Halladay or Lee. Tonight its Dickey vs.Worley, Saturday Niese vs Hamels and Sunday Pelfrey vs.Kendrick.
The lineup for tonight will be Pagan at center, Turner at second, Beltran in right, Murphy at third, Bay in left, Duda at first, Thole catching, Tejada at short and Dickey

I think we have a shot at 2-3
I mean its possible right? RIGHT!
Scrubs if you are out there, behave girl ;)

You know I am here Sonny

And I always behave.

Ya just could not resist could you, it's all good I'da done the same to you ;)
That team of yours is awesome, it's kinda hard as a baseball fan to hate a team that plays the game as well as they do, you just have to respect that.
Thanks for stopping by I always know I can count on you for a little needling now and then (*8*)

This will be short today I have a full weekend with workouts this morning
and I am pitching later today then the charity event with Ike tomorrow.
Just wanted to mention that DWright played his first rehab game yesterday
and was very happy with the way it went, he doubled, walked and drove in a run.

See you guys Monday.

Hey Scrub...love ya even though the Phils grabbed 2 of 3;)

And you could't quite contain yourself:p

As for our boys....*clears throat*

Look,Mike Pelfrey is a real nice guy from accounts, but please put up or shut up....you're no ace but prove you are the reliable #2 or #3 starter you seem to have the promise to become..yet every so often you'll throw an undrwhelming stinker like this and show why you are viewed as unreliable.Yoiu don't seem to have enough faith in yourself so it's very easy to lose faith in you quickly. You're not clueless like Ollie Perez but you lack that psychological edge that when even the best don't have their prime stuff you know they'll find ways to keep their club in the ballgame, not always have to press to score runs.I just don't know with Mike....I see Jon Niese as being MUCH tougher and resilient once he figures himself out he could be the top of the rotation stud.Chris Capuano and RA Dickey,no question about their toughness, and when they are on,their results. Will a light bulb EVER go off in Mike Pelfrey's head that yes,he's damn good enough if he ever believed in his stuff...it's frustrating!

Jason Bay.....enough!!!You're killing us and I'm not ripping you on your error....you always play hard, give the right effort but who took over your brain and made you forget how dangerous a power hitter and RBI guy you were as recently as 2009...36 homers.119RBI in Boston....I don't care if you don't feel right with your swing,if you're moving too little or doing the fucking Hokey Pokey and turning yourself about...Carlos Beltran is out of the lineup due to illness and he may be out permanently two weeks from today, and fuck it get the runs in when we need you to!We're stuck two more years with you...for God's sake you make the memoriesof George Foster in left look good in comparison....at least he drove in 80-90 runs which on your pace now looks awfully slugger like!!!

As of now we're competitive,we've got guts,as a team we don't quit....all attributable to the toughness and leadership of Terry Collins, who has proven to be absolutely the right kind of manager for these Mets,he has definitely learned a great deal since his unsuccessful mangerial stints in the 90's.He still has the passion, grittiness and toughness but also is much more flexible and is a communicator too,he believes in his players and hopefully will be able soon to extract consistency from them in the process. We have to have players who believe in themselves....break even records won't cut it for long in a very, very rapidly competitive NL East...the Nats and the Braves ain't going away quietly, and you know the Phillies because of that pitching have a few more years of top flight contention in their system.Getting David Wright and Jose Reyes back in about a week and hopefully Ike Davis too along with Johann Santana in August can help a great deal but in themselves won't mean anything if the Mets as a group aren't clicking....if a couple are slumping others have to step in big, everyone is responsible for the other.I love my Mets, the fact that they aren't the glamorous guys who always seem to have it easy or always have the most brilliant streaks of fortune make them even more endearing. They ARE New York, could have the heart of New York if they ever clicked on two fronts....believing in themselves and staying hungry, never complacent because they know how it feels to not be respected and appreciated.Evn in the old days in New York, the Dodgers and Giants more represented the New York attitude and spirit far more than the Yankees did.As great a franchise they are with the exception of the last decade before George Steinbrenner bought the franchise in 1973,the Yankees never knew humility and dark times that tested the faith of their fan base....they were the rich guys that always got richer, often at others expense. The Mets fans have known few precious great times in their history, never lasting....the best must have been in 1969 with the Miracle Mets and the Davey Johnson clubs of the late 80's that won a World Championship in 1986,my best memory as a Met,The Bobby Valentine clubs from 1997-2000 did us proud as well....but I tell you that mirage of a great contender that came out of 2005-2006 and destroyed by two successive pennant drive collapses and injuries and indifferent play at times the previous two years.we Met fans have had incredible ups and downs, not always amazing in the least.Let this year be the spark that leads to a long period of excellence and New York attitude and grit....I started off kind of negative but love this team so much I want to have hope there is a great future, and play like today losing 8-5 to an unproven Philly starter just makes me not know what to think, whether optimism can be justified.

Wow saucy that post was outstanding I really appreciate your comments. :=D:

Not much to add other than a far as Bay is concerned the fact is he isn’t producing, and with Carlos Beltran, Jose Reyes, Ike Davis and David Wright out of the lineup, he needs to. From what I am hearing do not be surprised if Collins reaches the end of his rope with Bay and benches him, yup.that’s what I am hearing, a demotion to the bench. Collins and Bay will talk abut that tonight.

On a very positive note Murphy continues to sizzle, his batting average now up to .312. Murphy had his ninth game this season with at least three hits on Saturday, second-most on the team this season. Five of those have come in his last 19 games. He has also raised his batting average with runners in scoring position this season to .349.

Once again this will have to be a short post, I am heading over to Brooklyn to meet up with Jose Reyes who is going to play a rehab game with the Cyclones today and no way am I missing that.. If he does well today it is possible for him to be back in the lineup as early as Tuesday rather than Friday. Dwright is still scheduled to return on Friday he is rehabbing in Florida and yesterday he has another good ay going 2-for-4 with a double, walk, run scored and an RBI. Perhaps if the Mets where playing in NY Friday David might have come up and play a game in Brooklyn as well but it makes no sense for him to fly up here and then return to Florida. Besides after today game the Cyclones play away until Thursday when they come home again.

Tomorrow I will write about Ike Davis’s Striking out Childhood Cancer event that was held last night.I will say it was great to see him so relaxed and in great spirits and he really took he time to work the room and meet up with just about everyone there.

Hi Sausy

Maybe time to switch favorite team.

j/k

Well at least this time Bay drove in a run on a sacrifice fly...guess that's progress:rolleyes:But losing to a guy who hasn't pitched in three years,Brad Hensley...we couldn't even touch him or anyone save the ninth inning too little, too late rally.4-1 loss to the Marlins in a make up game and Chris Capuano was solid but it's like he never gets support....now we're one game below .500 and really Jose Reyes can't come back soon enough tonight after a Brooklyn tuneup yesterday.David Wright back on Friday down in Florida against the Marlins in a weekend series....we've got the Cardinals coming in through Thursday so it's not gonna be easy.Truthfully,Mets fans should expect realistically any chance at contention this year is very faint....gotta play at a much more sustained rate, hovering at .500 will just get us a respectable record but Atlanta has to go into a swoon and we have to bore in a full frontal assault to have even a prayer of playing meaningful September ball.

Trading Carlos Beltran at the deadline is probably the only way to go...don't know the details of his contract but for some reason we don't get a first round draft pick for him if we lose him through free agency,so we gotta get the best deal no matter how bad it looks in apppearing we're surrendering the season. If we can get good prospects for him, deepen the system for the future for growth and trade flexibility that's what we gotta do.

I'm looking forward to sonny's take on Jose Reyes him having gone to the game in Brooklyn yesterday and with the Ike Davis charity event!

The Mets offense has been putrid, except for Saturday's game against Mets doormat Cole Hamels. Yes, Jason Bay has been horrid in getting runners home, he's again in an abysmal slump. Papers indicate a good outing by Jose Reyes, so expect him in the lineup tonite, maybe the rest of the team can respond with some excitement. Capuano pitched well enuff last nite, except for a 4 batter streak in the third inning, giving up 3 runs. No support means another loss. We need to pluck the Cardinals, Lets go Mets!!!

I'm looking forward to sonny's take on Jose Reyes him having gone to the game in Brooklyn yesterday and with the Ike Davis charity event!

Yesterday I went to Brooklyn to watch Jose Reyes play a rehab game with the Cyclones; as soon as I arrived I could feel the vibe coming from the clubhouse; Jose was holding court and everyone was hanging on his every word. The guy is awesome; nothing but smiles, advice and giving the guys encouragement. No diva here, and just as DWright did when he rehabbed in Brooklyn Jose won the hearts of the Cyclone players with his friendly warm and honest I am happy to be here attitude. The entire day Reyes was upbeat clowning around with everyone and giving high fives to the boys as they returned to the dugout. Even on the field if another player made a play Jose would acknowledge it with a wave and a smile. Just an absolute joy to be around seriously what a guy! He went 1-3 with a double and although the team lost the game it did not matter cause Jose Reyes was in the house and everyone was having a great day. He later said it was fun meeting the guys on the Cyclones and being able to play on the beach.
Ike Davis had wanted to go with me but still had some charity stuff going on and could not get away. I later called Ike and told him what a joy Jose was that day and he said yeah that’s our Josie, he is always like that just a great teammate.

Speaking about Ike’s charity event it was held at Michael's Restaurant in Brooklyn, the owner of that restaurant is a close friend of Ike’s Dad and Ike eats there often. Just a little background for those who do not know Ike started the Charity in memory of his closest friend since they were kids Michael Lio who died just under two years ago of Ewing's Sarcoma, the whole event was Ike’s brain child he organized the whole event. and got ESPNs Linda Cohen to host. Ike first met Mike in middle school, and were on every team together, all the way through senior in high school. They pretty much did everything together. Then one day they found like a growth in his neck, he had it removed and it seemed to be ok but then it grew back and it grew bigger, and then before you know it, he’s got cancer. The biggest blow came when just three weeks later they said it was Ewing’s sarcoma, and another couple of weeks later, he died. Ike talks about Mike often about how positive he was about everything just an amazing guy. There were about 5,000 people that showed up to his funeral, so that’s how loved the kid was
The event was completely sold out with just over 250 people and was a night I won’t soon forget. We had an auction that included a chartered fishing trip with Ike (the dude loves to fish) and a trip to Cooperstown for a Little League team, The Mets kicked in with Mets VIP packages (Thanks Jay Horowitz). We even had a special commemorative T-shirt designed by the Ike man himself. Besides an outstanding dinner we also gave out a signed baseball item from Ike; auctions of fun stuff; photographs; raffles, and oh yes a gift bag
After dinner Ike opened up to a Q&A and talked about just about everything you could imagine.

As to his ankle the doctor said yesterday said it would be ok for him to start a little running so he was really happy to get that news and will run today.
