Hi Guys. I live in Christchurch its been the worst of times here. Lost a couple of friends. My house has survived, got power now too. No water or sewage. Its nice to see the JUB community cares about whats going on down here. Love to all. XX

Glad to see your house has survived but so sad to hear about your friends trevjas. We seem kind of helpless up here in the North Island, but we'll all chip in and rebuild. Christchurch will end up a great city again. Take care.

Christchurch will have to be a very different city.

In the forum where I'm admin we have a member from Christchurch. He's been very active and shared with us the stories of the last quake his city faced last September.

We haven't heard from him since this one. We don't know what's going on..... hopefully he just lost his internet connection and is alright.

Heard from the forum member yesterday. He and the family are alright, they lost power for several days. The house is alright, but the nerves are shaken.

Where in CHC are you, trevjas? I'm so sorry to hear that you've lost friends. In a city as small as Christchurch I think everyone will either know someone or know of someone who's died. My sympathies. xx As I said in an earlier post, my nephew lost mates in the CTV building.

A miracle today that they've not found anybody in the ruins of the Cathedral when they expected so many. A small blessing in a city of pain.

My thoughts are with you all. If only I could get the time I'd be on an aircraft and start helping shovel rubbish away.

Thanks everyone for your kind words of support. Getting through one day at a time. Aftershocks are taking there toll. Alot of my family and friends have left the city.

Dobson73, one of my friends are also in the CTV building. He only recently started there. He did marketing for CTV. They are expecting to have removed all bodies from the CTV building within 24hours. Stephen is yet to be identified.
I live in the suburb of Barrington.

No bodies found at the Cathedral is a very welcomed miracle.

Starting work again tomorrow, it will be good to get back to some kind of normality. I work in Hornby, which survived relativly unscathed, Relieved to still have a job, unlike many. Happy for the small things.

I used to travel to and within NZ on business frequently. It is so beautiful and diverse and the people so warm and friendly. Had I been 25 and unattached the first time I went, I would still be there. Hard to believe it has been a year. Auckland, where a quarter of the population lives, is built on seven volcanoes, I believe. Wellington has a fault line running through its center. I read of an insurance company that had a 20-story building on the fault line, and thought it was sold. The deal fell through because the buyer couldn't get insurance...I can drive and be straddling the Hayward fault in the East Bay in Oakland in 15 minutes. Much of Oakland and Alameda are built on landfill, including the brick building of lofts where I live in Jack London Square -- also a lot of downtown Oakland is landfill. Also encouraging, if a tsunami hits the Bay Area, it will come directly to Oakland and Alameda, as per a disaster preparedness dude that spoke at our company.
