On-Topic Newsweek: Hit the Road Barack

I have to be very honest -- Romney was not my first choice. I hope that he has the balls to lead the country to prosperity. Choosing Ryan as his VP was a very good first move to not accepting the normal RCN way of doing things.

He doesn't have the brains to lead the country to prosperity, or the integrity. Choosing Ryan as his veep demonstrates the first; the second has been shown multiple times.

So we're in a 747, and the guy at the helm barely knows how to fly the plane --do you kick him out and replace him with someone whose "theories" about flying have been shown repeatedly to result in disastrous crashes?

BTW, you obviously don't understand how the US government works. Try reading a basic high school civics book. But I'll give you a hint: the president PROposes; the Congress disposes.

Smart ass remarks --- whooo, whooo *|*

If you haven't looked yet -- the plane is going down. Time to push the incapable pilot away and take back the steering of the plane while there is still time.

I certainly wouldn't view Niall as a go - to for this one.

I have a feeling that this won't do his credibility a lot of good; a lot of economists are going to jump on him for his inconsistencies and frankly incorrect analyses.

Niall should stick to being a TV presenter for his rather facile stories about money.

I have a feeling that as he has slipped from the 'A' list of talking heads who parsed the crash of '08 for all of us....he is looking to get some sensationalist press.

If I were him though, I wouldn't expect an invitation to the White House during Obama's 2nd term.

^^Well, I wonder if this is what you are talking about. The article is by Paul Krugman at the New York Times. He is bringing up multiple errors and misrepresentations in Niall Ferguson’s cover story in Newsweek.
I don't know anything about Paul Krugman, but if he is finding errors, I'm all for him.
Read....
Oh, yeah, it is an opinion, so I guess it can be debunked also.

There are multiple errors and misrepresentations in Niall Ferguson’s cover story in Newsweek — I guess they don’t do fact-checking — but this is the one that jumped out at me. Ferguson says:

rareboy, this thread is not about Niall. Please keep it to the subject.

^ Bullshit.

It is about Niall's article. It is about Niall Ferguson.

I am not gonna even try to write anything better than Noah Smith. He says it all. I found these links at the end of his article.
A very good read. See? Not everyone is trying to tell Obama to hit the road!!!!!!!!

Noahpinion: Niall, the British Empire is over. Accept it.

Update: Also see this excellent James Fallows takedown of Ferguson's atrocious piece.

Update 2: Also see Joe Weisenthal discuss Ferguson's disastrous attempts to analyze and predict the economy.

Update 3: And you really must read Matt O'Brien's epic fact-check of Ferguson's article.

Update 4: Here is a good roundup of Ferguson beatdowns from Joe Coscarelli, which unfortunately doesn't include mine, but does include contributions by Brad DeLong, Paul Krugman, and Matt Yglesias.

Ad hominem arguments may make you feel all warm and fuzzy, but most few readers will know or be interested in Naill's life story. For a Democrat magazine to put this on its cover is a major event in the campaign. You can bet there is weeping, wailing, and the gnashing of teeth in the White House. I do wish they had used an uglier photo as they always do when they put a Republican on the cover.

I believe the New Yorker cover is mocking neocons who claim that Obama is a Muslim.

And I think that the Newsweek cover is an appeal to Americans who no longer actually read anything, and is a dying gasp for a once respected "news" magazine to introduce "British Tabloid *cough* Journalism" to the American debate.

As the Vally Girls text in Southern Cali, WTFE! ;)

Newsweek and The Daily Beast are liberal.

I understand. It's hard to be attacked by your own people.

You'll get over it.

Honey, even the National Enquirer and the World Daily News are wild eyed liberals compared to some of the shit that passes for REAL news/journalism in the "Conservative American Right" world. ..|

I'm just surprised that Glen Beck hasn't come up with a more stylish, marketable version:

thumbnail.aspx

I've even been reading some blogs, and printed editorials, and letters to the editors that are all but begging ALL Americans to vote for Romney/Ryan so that we can get this shit over with.

That they will so fuck America, that they will so destroy the American Middle Class, that they will SO turn America into a Corporate Oligarchy (something that they also feel that the Democrats are either incapable of preventing, or who are also in bed with same), that it will finally shake the mythical/irrelevant "Republican Moderates" to their CORE, that they'll wrestle their party back to "center left."

<snicker>

Like that will ever fucking happen! :rotflmao:

This is how desperate a once respected journalistic magazine has become to sale glossed paper, and how partisan American Politics have become.

Personally?

I'm almost tempted to Vote for Romney/Ryan myself just to get this "shit show" over with.

BUT, because I love American History and MY COUNTRY, both current and past, and because I've been paying attention... ;)

During the first six years of the 21st Century Republicans controlled both Houses of Congress, AND the White House.

They managed to take a Budget Surplus and turn it into one of the largest deficits, and the largest build up of Government dating back to FDR's "destruction of America" from 1932-1945.

AND THEY DID IT WITHIN SIX YEARS!

While some how managing to "blame the Democrats" the whole time.

Now we're led to believe that some Kenyan Born, Muslim, "Chicago" community activist, is what is actually bringing about the "downfall of America," the introduction of "socialism, hatred for opposing views," and "intollerance" in America.

:rotflmao:

REALLY?

I'd have to say:

:gogirl:

^ That's the Glee FOX Mercedes version. ;)

But if I were a lazy ass fucker, who was more interested in rumor, innuendo, personal mudslinging, rather than real issues, I could be easily persuaded. :luv:

*sigh*

And sometimes I wish that I were. :p

'any other magazine in the USA would put out a cover like this'

Must be getting close to an election.

I remember when I first saw this and didn't think anything of it. weird

Good business move on Newsweek's part. Maybe lose a few liberal readers, gain the loss and more with a ton of more conservative readers, the shock value adds to the equation.

Imagine that ......... an article that suggests BO is NOT doing a good job - LOL

the outrage ;)

Brains !!!!!!!

I caught that on first read: he's using one number to debunk a totally unrelated number. Nice of Krugman to trumpet it.

BTW, Krugman has practically made a hobby of showing how Ferguson's economic claims have been consistently wrong.

Interesting to see Tina on Morning Joe today. She got a big pass on the cover story -- very few questions. Too bad Joe was off today.

Stephanie (I don't know no Joe Soptic) Cutter was on today also -- I'll just assume she showed up because of the softball questions and Joe not being there.

I have to say I was surprised that she didn't reveal Obama's favorite New Mexico food. Since her and Axelrod barely speak maybe she's not talking with Obama either. Trouble in [STRIKE]paradise[/STRIKE] hell.

saw Morning Joe as well - Tina Brown defended the story and the author's explanations while saying that she did not agree with his analysis - she spent the rest of her time on the panel linking Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan to the Missouri Republican who has a curious outlook on rape ......

Tina is hardcore liberal - Tina is the editor of the magazine

the immediate hands on hips eye roll frothing about this article is all you need to know about the current state of Obama sniffing
