Nobel Peace Prize Premature Ejaculation

There's no doubt in my mind that Obama deserves to win the Nobel Peace Prize. It doesn't matter if it's this year or sometime in the future. But winning the prize now just reaffirms the credibility of his diplomatic approach of reaching out to other countries (like North Korea, Iran and other Muslim and Arab nations) in the name of global peace and a nuclear-free world. Isn't this what the nobel peace laureate is all about?

Here's hoping the Jonas Brothers get that lifetime achievement Grammy this year.

I don't know. There's that Lady Gaga retrospective they still need to shoehorn in.

What is the fuss? He did not ask for the Nobel Peace Prize.

It is not about him or us Americans at all, it is about how the world sees us.
Relax and be proud, it is not about accomplishment, it is about effort. No one is
more strategically placed in our world than our American president.

Shep+ ;)

I know a lot of people will disagree with what I'm about to say, but I'm going to say it anyway -

First of all, it's ludicrous that Obama was nominated after just 12 days in office because he, as stated by the committee. "captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future."

I've always thought that the Prize was awarded for actual ACTIONS and RESULTS, not for WORDS and certainly not for INSPIRATION.

When you compare the accomplishments of Obama, not just in those first 12 days, but even in the past 9 months, to someone like Martin Luther King (who won the prize in 1964) who actually went out among the people, risking his life, being heckled and spit on, jailed, and finally paying the ultimate price for his endeavours or someone like U2's Bono who has devoted years of his life toward humanitarian efforts which have actually produced results, awarding this prize to Obama was actually a slap in the face to everyone else who has ever won the award. It has cheapened the meaning of the honor to the status of a Cracker Jack prize.

>>>Chill out. Obama's sitting back and enjoying his award

Shame. There's a country he's supposed to be running.

>>>Can you do a better job? If so, I'd love to hear how you would handle everything he's been delivered.

Is that really all the higher I need to set the bar? That they be better than me? Jesus, I can barely carry a tune in a bucket, and I couldn't keep a beat if you spotted me the B, the A, the T and let me buy a vowel. But should I buy CDs of anybody who can kind of warble a tune, or keep a basic beat, simply because "they're better than me"?

Of course, I couldn't do better as president. My head would explode within a week if they didn't find something to impeach me on first. But I expect more of my presidents than "being better than me at the gig". In fact, I have a lot higher expectations for Obama than I would for most. I didn't expect crap under Bush, because I didn't think he was capable of much. But Obama's a candidate I voted for, in the party to which I belong, and I expect him to kick ass at the job. (I also expect him to withstand the inevitable end-of-honeymoon pendulum shift that's already started.)

Bugger all that - I'm halfway through writing my first song which I started 5 minutes ago so Lifetime Achievement Award please, Recording Academy. Additionally, I'm thinking about Unity, Togetherness and Brotherhood as I type this, so hopefully the next three years' Peace Prizes are mine too.

Honestly, this is a complete joke. I've never really appreciated Bono, but at least he's been actually on the job for like 20 years, as opposed to 11 minutes (or whatever Obama's timeframe was).

Reagan was opposed to the bill and threatened to veto it if passed by Congress. He only relented at the last minute.

Hmm. I didn't know that...

Doesn't surprise me, though. The right remembers Reagan as if he were some sort of deity, when in truth he was one of our cruelest presidents.

Certainly to the gay community, and the poor, and the mental ill, and the Welfare recipients...

I could go on, but what's the point ?

......I've always thought that the Prize was awarded for actual ACTIONS and RESULTS, not for WORDS and certainly not for INSPIRATION.....

You are correct. The Nobel Peace Prize is to be awarded for achievment not for potential and that is why the committee has cheapened the Nobel Peace Prize.

What will happen if Obama doesn't live up to the potential that the committee has touted? Will the prize be revoked? Is there a time limit on how long Obama has to live up to the potential for which he won?

I think that just about everyone throughout the World agrees that this was a premature award, as I am finding that it is really being low keyed in the press. Even many Obama supporters are low keying this award. Unfortunatelyy I think the Nobel committee's continued efforts to make political statments and attempts to influence only the policies they agree with, cheapens the significance of this award. The fact that his name was nominated prior to Feb 1, 2009 when he had only been in office for two weeks speaks volumes as to what this award was all about.

What about if he has to send more troops to Afghanistan? Will he have to give the money back?

I wonder if this has effectively tied his hands on any future military actions he might need to enforce for whatever reason...

I think this award will definitely make his future foreign and military policy decisions harder both in the eyes of other countries and from a domestic standpoint. He will be under more pressure to show that he is not operating from a position of weakness.

He will be flying to Norway to personally accept it at taxpayers' expense, no doubt.

Are Michelle and Barack going to be traveling separately again, thereby doubling the taxpayer expense for the trip?

Will Michelle Obama fly a day or two ahead to tour Norway and shop at taxpayers' expense?

It would have been cheaper if he had just stayed in Denmark after his failed (and expensive) Olympic pitch and went to Oslo from there.

I was thinking, the only thing that could have been a bigger shock was if he had won a Nobel Peace Prize for Economics...

No, actually, that would have just been laughable...
