North Korean Leader Kim Jong II reported dead

The country operates in a semi-religious cult of personality that revolves around Kim Jong-Sung, Kim Jong-il's father. I suppose Il will now get promoted to immortal vice-president shining down on the people from the after life next to dad now.

Whatever happens next, the people there will probably continue to be the ones who lose. With an economy that's a mix of iron age through twentieth century technology, the quasi-religious cult now with its second semi-divinity is essential for keeping the people thinking things are fine.

It's one massive insane asylum.

What you seem to miss in your discussion seems to be the relevance of china in all this.

Wasn't there something about his oldest son being too "effeminate" to be his successor? He is suspected of being gay.

Maybe he has a JUB account......:p

And, yes....a monser is dead. May he burn in hell (if there is one)

I would guess just based on Asian history that the most likely scenario that will emerge is that this Chang Sung-Taek person or some group in the military will become the actual power with Kim Jong-un becoming a figurehead to maintain the religious cult of personality intact. Kim Jong-il was grooming Un to take his place but he hadn't finished the process which is why the timing of this is very very shaky. Un might be able to consolidate power and lead but he might not have enough support form the military yet to do it. Pretty much all the other scenarios will plunge the country into chaos with nasty consequences for the neighbors.

He was too enamored with the West. He made trips to Japan to party and visit Disney Tokyo. The rest of the leadership was afraid he might actually try to bring N Korea into the 19th Century.

Or Japan, a nation that hates North Korea.

The title of the youtube you posted was: North Koreans weeping hysterically over the death of Kim Jong-il. I don't think they were weeping over Kim Jong-il's death. I understand that they just heard that Kim Kardashian was getting divorced.

:lol::lol:

Kim Jong Il dead.

hohohohohohohohohohobohohohohohohohohho

And who said that Gaddafi wouldn't get anything for Christmas?

I don't know if it's a better or worse option, but there's also the distinct possibility of a military coup.

Thank Loki -- great part of a great movie.

A horrible man who murdered, maimed, tortures countless people of his own country.

He joined Stalin, Lenin, Hitler, Marx, Pol Pot, Che Grevara, Sadam Hussein and others in HELL.

I heard on a commentary today that he probably never heard anyone speak negatively about him.

The weeping looked like a mixed batch -- some real, but an awful lot of it faked.

As for China -- so long as Korea doesn't fly apart and cause chaos, I doubt they really care who's in charge there.

Well, of course not -- they followed the Left's method of always building self-esteem.

Fail fractions? No worries; build his self-esteem.

Take a dump in the shower? No worries, just build his self-esteem.

Shoot a family so he can rape the daughters? No worries; get in there and build his self-esteem.

I'm not sure you meant 'Left'.

It is a hallmark of all medieval style 'Personality Cult' dictators that they are protected from failure and that even when they lose, they are made to seem to win. This happens at both the far right and the far left of the political spectrum.

We're just more used to the cult of personality of the 20th century communist regimes as being more resilient and sturdy than the right wing fascist dictatorships that have fallen.

But have no doubt. North Korea is about as far right reactionary as you can go...it hearkens back to a serf based economy enslaved by the military and the 'Great' leader.

It is always one of the reasons why Americans should be wary of political dynasties in the White House.

China cares a lot about Korea. In a wikileaks cable it was also revealed that they would like to see a unified Korea for the sake of stability.

by the way today is South Korean president Lee Myung-bak's birthday.

The whole business of never allowing "harm" and always building up self-esteem is straight out of the left's playbook, and has been heavily implemented in schools. It's the biggest reason the church my sister goes to has had to keep adding classroom space: students in the public schools get "built up", but they thus don't learn responsibility or even initiative. Her church's school has about 1/3 non-Christian kids, whose parents put up with the 'evangelical' slant on everything because they're actually getting an education there.

Some things never change.

I will be the first to say that i give my condolences to the republican party. Will he be entombed next to Reagan?
