I think most PEOPLE would say that the fish has no feelings and no soul. Otherwise I'd feel horribly guilty about those cans of tuna I have sitting in my pantry.

now dolphins on the other hand, I'm sure at least have feelings, if not a soul. This is why there's no cans of chopped Dolphin in there, and my tuna is certified dolphin-safe.

From what I have read, isn't it fact that the reasons "human-beings" are on earth is to have dominion over animals, fish, etc and to see to it that they are NOT harmed in an inapporpriate way; only for food; but NOT to be used for senseless entertainment and to traumatize children who perhaps have a heart; NOT heartless and one day perhaps cause them to treat humans in maybe the same manner, forgetting they too have souls!

Jason contradicted himself. First he says he owned a bunch of pet fish and that it's traumatizing to children and then later he claims he doesn't really care about the fish and he killed a possum earlier.

So it's not about the fact that it's animal cruelty? It's because it was done in front of children and because it was an event about religion? What exactly are you pissed about?

I watched the video and no kids were traumatized. I don't know of any kids that would break down and cry over something like that unless they were like three years old and the kids looked to be at least 10 in the video.

I agree with CGHJ, if they were killing puppies or something then that would be messed up but swallowing a gold fish really isn't a big deal to me.

people been swallowing goldfish for decades and even PETA hasn't chimed in ... is it just because it's christians doing it that gets you excited? if it were a bunch of college frat boys would you care? ... i don't think the issue here is killing goldfish for jesus or murdering animals in front of children ...

the pastor said if the kids filled a bus with attendees he'd swallow a goldfish ... BFD

BUT... if he were a REAL man he'd swallow without a drink of water!!!

I was talking about shit that some marines had done as part of wartime, mainly against animals but also against some Iraqis. If this is what the Iraqis are doing, you make a pretty good case that they have it coming. I feel a little bit less sorry for them now. Next time some guy gets drunk and tells me what he did over there, I'll ask, "Why'd you stop?"

Nah, cuz actually the majority of Iraqis, like the majority of marines/soldiers/americans are actually very decent people. There's def people in the US that would do that here if they thought they could get away with it [cough Fred Phelps cough cough].

I can say with some pride that no marine that I know would ever allow this to happen to a gay man just because he was gay, or let live someone who had caused it to happen.

In fact, I can honestly say that any marine I have ever met, if they found someone doing this to another human being for no reason other than they man was gay, would shoot that person (not the gay guy) on the spot and/or crush his face with the heel of his boot. The gay man would be taken to a base hospital where american doctors would try to save his life. You can take some comfort in that, I guess.

Um.. I mean, I know it's bullshit, but don't Christians pretend at least to be servants of God or something? Wouldn't God be a bit put off that they were killing household pets for the entertainment of kids?

I mean yes.. I've had to feed goldfish to larger fish before and even a mouse to a snake when I looked after it for a friend. But I didn't do that to entertain kids.

Apparently the fact that this was some kind of incentive... "Wow.. if we do a good job, the pastor will kill an animal in front of us"... is lost on some people. Or they too are fucked in the head.

The act itself... whatever... I would have been traumatized as a young kid but I'm not a young kid anymore. Now I just think it's kinda lame.
 
On the bright side maybe it IS a suicide cult and there'll be a few less morons to deal with in this world.

I guess that's the next step.

This thread has been like calling 911 to say that there's a gang of kids with baseball bats assembling outside your house and being told by the operator "Oh don't be silly.. my 8 year old son has a baseball bat, are you scared of him too?"

It's not the act itself, it's the context with which it's presented.

But I've noticed a pretty huge disconnection with reality in American culture since I moved here.

I misworded that then, there's nothing that anyone could do to an animal that would be justifiable in war. And I wonder the same thing. What bugs me more is the animals generally belong to some poor Iraqi farmer. Don't get me wrong though...it's not the marines per se that are up to no good, because the great majority of them are really good people wo truly want to help (whether they are or not is a whole different thread and we won't get into that here, the point is that most of them want to do good).

However there are a bunch of fucktards in any country, and although it's currently illegal for gays to serve openly, it is not yet illegal for fucktards to serve. And they tend to end up in the infantry, where they're then let loose in a country with no rules and very little oversight, with big weapons. Then bad shit happens. Then I hear about it when they get drunk...maybe because they do feel bad about it and are trying to clear their conscience, I dunno. There's def some stuff I wish I'd never heard.

Again, the great majority of marines (and american military folks in general) are upstanding, moral people who want to bring good to the world, even if a steady exposure to FAUX News has perverted their sense of what good is. That's the propaganda machine's fault, not theirs. But there are some real asshole in the world, and some of them do end up in the military, just the same as some of them do end up at Wal-Mart and your local Dairy Queen. The difference being, there's only so much hell the cart boy at Wally World can bring, whereas when you give that same guy a 50cal machine gun and a rocket launcher, some shit's gonna get broken.

Seriously?! More like being a 911 operator and hearing, "Some kids got a toy gun that blows bubbles! Why won't you send somebody, he's GOT A GUN!!!" Absolute and total non-issue.

Save your indignation for youth fishing programs, where they teach kids it's OK to mangle some poor fish's mouth with a terrible sharp hook and then release it back in the water to suffer. Wait, I don't care about that, either ;)

And don't even try to tell me that no one in Canada has ever eaten a live goldfish. I love you buddy, but now you're just being a silly person.
