NY Mets 2013

I know great pitchers decline as they get olde rbut Halladay seems to have fallen off a cliff faster then many others i've seen.

My bad, I meant to mention Halliday in my post above. As a Mets fan I normally want to see Roy get owned by the Mets and win. But yesterday I had an uncomfortable reaction watching him pitch, I felt sad and found it disturbing to watch him struggle. I don’t want him to go out that way I am seriously hoping for him to get it together again and not look so uncomfortable and distressed as he has in last outings. A pitcher with his abilities and talent has to be admired and respected. It pains me to read what some in the media are writing almost enjoying his decline. It’s not right it’s not fair He was one of the greats and we need to treat him with respect.

Also while glad we beat him don't want to see Roy Halliday disparaged as a finished has been. No one who really loves baseball would do that. Hopefully he can regain his edge and prove the doubters and naysayers wrong( of course not against us, though!) He's just shy of 200 wins, has been one of the best at pitching in his era and hopefully despite his struggles Roy has some good years left in that prize arm to stick it to the critics.

So wonderful to see Matt Harvey showing just how good he can be... as mentioned not his best, most consistent control of his fastball but had everything else working while still able to get the fastball going later. Nine K's, 19 in his first two starts this year. It's even more amazing because I heard some people outside the Mets were saying Harvey was overrated, he was a 2 or 3 and never had the command or control of other pitches to be an ace. Well, sonny knows what kind of heart this kid has besides his talent, and the Mets had high hopes for him too if they saw he could more fully develop and control his other pitches. And to think potentially Zack Wheeer is supposed to be a true ace, and better than Harvey! Plus we have a pipeline of other potential rotation studs, and I've mentioned them: Noah Syndegaard, Mike Fulmer, Cory Mazzoni, Rafael Montero, Hansel Robles... plus the increasingly confident and regarded Jon Niese in our own rotation, with Dillon Gee and Jeremy Hefner making for an outstanding back of the order.

John Buck is a godsend....he's definitely after working on his swing in the offseason going to be a big help starting as now or backing up Travis D'Arnaud in the future. He knew he wasn't a .192 hitter like last season in Toronto and had hit as high as 20 homers and around .280 a couple of years ago ad we know he is tremendous in the clubhouse and in calling a game and defending his position..his pitchers love him.

Oh so happy to see Daniel Murphy doing his thing...two hits yesterday, showing the ability to drive the ball when needed, putting easy, good swings and really looking like he wants to be as good a player as he can. He hit .320 before he was hurt in 2011 in over 400 at bats...he hits doubles and now with two homers already he shows with his adjustments he can turn on the ball and suppply some power. Tejada's doing his clutch thing even with his early season problems, and DWright has been solid. We just need to get Ike, Duda, and consistency from Cowgill and Marlon Byrd as well as Kirk Niewenhuis when he is out there.

Thanks sonny for the update on Matt den Dekker and hope he gets out there asap, and we can see him at CitiField before September.

Well, Gee, he certainly didn't have "it" last nite. Pretty miserable outing, hopefully he'll be back track next time out. John Buck and Dan Murphy continued to pound the ball last nite though, so that was all the good news. Game was over pretty early, Cliff Lee pitched a good game, and the Mets never quite got untracked after falling behind early. I have thrown that game out as an aberration, hoping Hefner shows more good stuff tonite. Let's go Mets!!

Damn syam, wish I could keep it short and sweet like you but the Italian in me has to go all over the place! Gee needs to be in the zone and good control to be effective and he just wasn't fooling anyone last night. Jack Buck off his first week or so here looks like the move of the offseason for Sandy Alderson...and lol he's only the backup for the real big new thing in fellow catcher and part of that RA Dickey trade to the Jays, Travis D' Arnaud. So happy with Murh's play especially with him missing all that time in spring training, he looks frisky out there and is driving the ball too.

Mets look bad a second straight time to the Phillies with starter Jeremy Hefner bombed for five runs( including giving up two homers)
in the first inning, going only three innings allowing six hits and five runs. La Troy Hawkins after a fine job in relief by Josh Edgin going two scoreless innings gave up a two run homer in the sixth. Mets bright points were John Buck's fifth homer and Lucas Duda's launching two missiles of his own, as well as three his for Jordanny Valdespin and two for Ruben Tejada. Mets lose to Philly in a final score of 7-3 in a game which saw a nearly half hour rain delay in the fourth.

In both losses to Philly, pitchers Dillon Gee and Jeremy Hefner, who rely so much on command and location were plagued by inability to find either. One of the most delicate points about how well the Mets perform is that they need the back part of therir staff to at least be solid and consistent, and without the command of their pitches Gee and Hefner in particular are particularly vulnerable because they generally don't break the radar gun with impressive velocity.

Off night tonight, as our boys are going on a screwy trip that has em going from AL to NL for a weekend series starting tomorrow in Minnesota followed by four games in Colorado against the Rockies. New schedule is kinda weird, as interleague play is spread out through the season rather than particular series.

Well I am not one of those guys who is going to start ringing my hands over the bottom of our rotation. We just haven’t played enough baseball yet to start overreacting to a couple of bad outings. I expect Warthen and his coaches to start working immediately with the boys and get them back on track and I have faith that they will. No sense going over what happened in the last two games let’s just say it was not pretty, actually it was pretty ugly, but again let’s not start to panic….yet.

How about the Dude and two homers yesterday it almost made up for the bad pitching…well maybe not. ;).But still it is what we have been waiting for him to do and it’s very exciting to see Duda’s three-hit game and two, count em two, shots to right field. Loved to see him wait out a low change up and blast it a great sign for Lucas.

Now about Murphy and his bonehead move last night, in case you were one of the lucky ones who missed it Valdespin was on third and Murph was on second, Ike Davis hit a fly ball to shallow centerfield, The Phillies Ben Revere grabbed the ball as Valdespin tagged from third base. But then Daniel did not wait to see if Revere caught the ball and took off for third and was doubled off second before Valdespin could score, part of the goof up was Jordany’s fault as well cause he was not running and should have scored. Murphy has been red hot with the bat and doing a terrific job in the field but he had to be sure that ball wasn’t caught he has been around too long to be making mistakes like that. To his credit Daniel did own up to the mistake and understands what he did, or failed to do, cost us a run. Thing is, I praise Murph all the time so when something like this happens I think I have license to call him on it. I do it out of love and respect for one of the hardest working most conscientious ball payers I know.

But back to Jordany Valdespin what is up with that childish behavior on the field, it just continues and is getting a little old he needs to grow up; watching him gallop to third base and then celebrate with a couple chest thumps was sickening. I liked that third base coach Tim Teufel blasted him for it, Tim was not about to let Jordany get away with those juvenile, be it unprofessional behavior. The crowd got on him as well with boos, they remember last year when Valdespin hit a three-run home run then jogged the bases as he crossed the plate saying “I am the man.” I like what Jordany has been bringing to the table I love his speed I like him in leadoff and his ability to put bat on ball but I have a real problem and have since the first time I saw him in Brooklyn with his immaturity. I want this kid in the lineup as often as he can be but he will never gain my respect as long as he continues to act the fool.

The guys will take today off and enjoy a snowstorm about to hit Minnesota it will snow into tomorrow with 10-12 inches expected so who knows if we will even have a game. The forecast for tomorrow's Game: High of 36/Low of 28 with 40 percent chance of more snow.

Horwitz doing his part helping shovel in front of the hotel, don’t be surprised if Jay decides to build a snowman.

Nah, not panicking but do hate to lose these games...some in the media of course love to get off and on the bandwagon depending on the teams' fortunes just to make the dollars. And some fans take things way to heart and get swept into bandwagon thinking too. It's never good to get too down this early on a slump period or get too exuberant for an early season winning streak. Season is 162 games, and the most important thing is how you finish during the stretch of the season.

One thing I got pissed about in the papers was the criticism of Murphy's baserunning play without adding how he owned up to it...sonny like he mentioned is encouraging and positive because of Murph's makeup and when he gets on him it's to be constructive
and Murph doesn't have a problem with that but the press just likes to rip sometimes without any balance or context, and no one should be expected to be too happy about that .

Buck's 5th homer.....what a start and Lucas Duda is showing signs of being focused at the plate, and with his power as he showed last night he can be an awesome weapon in the middle of that lineup. Read where they want to eventually settle Murph maybe in the fifth or sixth spot because of his ability to get extra base hits being conducive to more RBI but for now will keep him second in the order.

Valdespin is no Lastings Milledge to be sure, but his immaturity may eventually cause the Mets to dump him no matter what the considerable physical talent. If you don't have a serious, dedicated approach to the game...if it's about you and your drama and the team is way behind in your considerations then Valdy will write his own ticket out of town. Like sonny says though he has got so much ability you want to see him make the most of it because it can help a team immensely when properly focused.

Damn this weather is crazy...summer warmth here for a couple of days followed by thunderstorms, sharp cooling, clouds and more rain...goodness knows if sonny's right if we have a game tomorrow with all that snow forecast! Always a hoot to see Jay game for anything...be it filling in for Captain America himself David Wright, leading the Mets in a cartooon character version of the Harlem Shuffle, bringing his handy shovel to help clean up the snow....can't wait for his next adventures!;)

Thanks for pointing that out Saucy, I love getting on him when he screws up, he got plenty of ribbing about that blunder cause Murphs teammates know he can take it and roll with it with the spirit of good natured fun for which it is intended. Any criticism about Daniel that comes from me is always positive and from the heart if I thought for a second it would bother him I would not do it.
Still waitin on word about the game tonight not a good sign when KB packs two winter coats for a road trip and judging from the pics it does not look good.

The field

What one of the boys saw looking out of his hotel room window

Update on tonight’s game

No official word yet but Murph says the field is all cleaned up and ready for play but it will be very cold
The fields looks a heck of a lot better today than it did in the picture I posted earlier taken yesterday

Hopefully Murphy can continue his 10-15 success against the Twins pitcher Worley

Another thing to watch for will be David Wright whose next RBI will allow him to pass Mike Piazza (89) for the most in Mets franchise history in interleague play.

John Buck could become the 1st Mets player since David Wright in June 2007 to homer in four straight games.

In all probability we will have baseball tonight the game will be on SNY starting at 8

Nice pics from the guys! Damn the first one at the park was amazing...here we are in spring and in Minnnapolis Mother Nature
hasn't got the word! Pretty one especially from the hotel!

Target Field looks great, and thankfully as Murph updated to sonny it looks ready to play. Don't expect any short sleeves tonight, though!;) It's rainy and cool here so at least though we don't have to deal with the snow and it's not nearly as cold...wonder how it's going to be against the Rockies next week as that's the boys next destination? As bad as the Metrodome was, at least in bad weather you could get the game in but indoor baseball like that isn't real baseball. Plus they had one of the worst astroturf fields ever!:grrr: God it was like playing baseball on a giant pool table!#-o

Hopefully the field will not get slick with frost as the nite wears on and the air chills. I've played softball on frosty fields, and it ain't fun. Let's go Mets!!

Great win yesterday at freezing Target Field, 16-5 Mets shallacking of the Twins highlighted by a grand slam (home run #6) by the scorching John Buck, three hits and 4 RBI by David Wright including a triple and a double, and four hits and 4 RBI by Daniel Murphy, including a bases loaded drive off the right center wall for a three run scoring double. Also getting in the multi hit parade was three hits for Jordanny Valdespin leading off and two for Ruben Tejada. Jon Niese wasn't great in the cold air and gave up five runs in five innings but got much more than enough run support for the win and was assisted by a flawless bullpen performance over the last four innings.I'm sure that while the Mets would love to play in a more springlike atmosphere our boys will take a football style cold this whole weekend if they can get production like this!;)

WOW!! Didn't see the game, but looking at the box score and reading stories of the game it appears the Mets were quite impressive last nite!! We really need to see Ike get some hits, but John Buck is just awesome!! The bullpen put together 4 solid innings with a big lead and didn't give the Twins any inkling of a comeback. I believe the Mets have had great success against Worley, now of the Twins, formerly with the Phils, so I wasn't too shocked that the Mets had a good nite at the plate. More of the same, please, Let's go Mets!!

What can I add to what Saucy wrote about yesterday’s game it was a hoot to watch. Even the weather played a part in the fun with the boys in the booth joking about it and of course KB and that hat. Seriously those guys make the games always add some fun to the games. Even the DJ got into the act paying Christmas music lot of fun. In spite of how cold it was a lot of the guys said it did not feel so bad manly cause of the lack of any wind. But those hot showers after the game were heaven.

Yup Syam you missed a great one and I agree "more of the same please"

Collins will change things a bit today.
Lineup today will be Cowgill, Murphy, Wright, Buck, Duda, Byrd, Davis, Turner, Tejada, Harvey and yes, Ike Davis will bat seventh in batting order that kid is really struggling again. Turner who also needs some at bats will DH. If you wonder why no Jordany Valdespin it’s cause Cowgill 3-for-3 vs the pitcher Diamond, Duda is also hitting well against the lefties so he is in. Maybe we will see Jordany in some spot later in game.

So sad to her about Reyes getting hurt so bad, Valdespin spoke to him last night, Reyes was sad and told him he tore ligaments and expects to be out 3 months.

Sorry to hear about Jose Reye's ankle injury...does look like he could miss three months. Hopefully he will be able to maintain the explosiveness as a runner coming back but with a bad ankle injury his best asset might well be lost for the season at least.

Well today while it was cold again at Target Field in Minnesota it was hot for Matt Harvey, who for six and two thirds innings had a no hitter. Gave up a screaming line drive shot off the right field foul pole to first baseman Justin Morneau to end the no hit bid but was fantastic over eight innings only allowing two hits including the homer, while striking out six and walking only two. He was masterful and in total command showing off a variety of pitches that impressed former Met Ron Gardenhire, now the Twins manager who called him a "horse" . Matt's fearlessness and ability is making him in his first full MLB campaign a pitcher who's performances are getting to be a must watch. Mets win 4-2 scoring all four runs in the fifth, started by Marlon Byrd's first Mets homer, a booming drive to left, and RBI singles by Colin Cowgill, Daniel Murphy and David Wright. The scorching Murph had two hits today and the DH for the game Justin Turner had three hits and scored a run. Keep it going, boys!!!!!!!!!!..|

Well we were expecting thus and now it is official, cause the forecast is for freezing rain throughout the day this afternoons Twins game has been postponed. The game will be made up on Aug. 19 which was to be off-day after the Mets were supposed to fly home from San Diego.
It’s not looking much better for our next series in Colorado, rain and snow is forecast for at least two AND the temperatures may go down to 14 degrees on Wednesday.:(

That's a downer, sonny! Bad enough the postponement today because of the wintry mix mess but Denver's forecast for the Rockies series seems downright awful!:( Bet the boys can't wait to get back to the East Coast....not getting back to summer yet like we had on Tuesday and Wednesday but the temps will seem downright balmy in the upper 50's to around 60 next weekend when they get back.

I KNOW you were jazzed by Matt Harvey's tremendous game yesterday, and two of the biggest offensive stars being Murph and Justin Turner! Matt is getting big props by other clubs now, he's the real deal and looks like an ace in the making...maybe with Zach Wheeler later this year we get two aces... Mets pitching is bringing summer warmth and memories of Mets great staffs past to Mets fans!:D

Great start from Matt Harvey on Saturday! I was hoping he would not come inside to Morneau, but it is what it is. Just a superb performance. Just heard that the Mets were postponed today, and with the forecast what it is for Denver, the Mets may not play all week, and some rain is in the forecast for the East Coast on Friday! Some springs are just not good for baseball, but lets' hope for the best. What, no Buck HR yesterday???? He sucks, get rid of him, lol. Let's go Mets!!

Looking like we will finally have some baseball after two snow delays. Split squad games today if weather holds up the forecast is for a high of 44 and a low of 31, with rain changing to snow during the day. Dillon Gee will pitch the first game at 3:10 p.m.
No word yet on who will pitch the second game tonight at 8:40, although Jeremy Hefner seemed a more likely option than Aaron Laffey to face the lefty Jeff Francis. Collins does not wanna fool with Harvey’s schedule, so that means he will face Stephen Strasburg and the Nats on Friday at Citi Field.

The Mets and Rockies will all wear No. 42 jerseys for the afternoon game today to honor Jackie Robinson.
Then in the second game the teams will wear throwback 1993 jerseys to commemorate Colorado’s first major league game.

The guys have been going bonkers not playing they can’t do much except work in doors and it is getting old, Only so many movies you can watch and card games you can play.

Daniel Murphy who is the player union rep went with Sandy Alderson yesterday to a meeting to discuss makeup scenarios.

The whole team was gathered around the TV all day yesterday watching the horrible events in Boston.

Matt Harvey managed to get his bull pen in yesterday in the snow what a trooper

And Ike got some barefoot swings of a tee.

Update on the game from my post earlier

Three hours to go and so far the games are still on and as you can see from the pictures they are working feverishly to get the field ready
Everyone is out there even the mascot, not the players thou they are busy building snowmen and havin snowball fights. I told ya it was getting to them.
I Haven’t heard from KB, last I did he was looking form his Nanook of the North hat
