Mets Lets Go 2015
Sorry I have been here in a while been swamped with stuff to do and helping friends with projects
I am grateful to Saucy and Syam for keeping things going, Saucy with his outstanding recaps of the gams and insights have been awesome and my thanks to him for that.
So finally Dillon Gee came along and stopped the bleeding with our starting pitching which had imploded the last weeks hopefully this will be a turnaround for us and Niese will keep it going tonight in Miami. Gee was outstanding throwing 113 pitches of which 68 were strikes. Of course Colon is till big question casue when he is good he is good bit when he is bad as he has been he really stinks it up. Farnsworth will remain the closer despite a blown save Saturday.
Our crowded outfield got a little less so with Kirk Nieuwenhuis getting demoted. I was not happy with that although we kinda all knew he would be the man out but he is not upset cause he knows he will return and at least in AAA he will get to play more and work on his game which is important to him no one wanted to see him rusting away on the bench here in NY. He is ok after crashing and banging his elbow in one of his outstanding plays he is so famous for although he came out of the game he said it does not feel so bad today and expects to be back in today or tomorrow the injury is not severe.
Another terrific turn around has been Curtis Granderson who thanks God has seemed to have found his stoke and has been hitting the ball well he last few outings and contributing to the team I was so concerned that we had another Jason Bay on our hands, that dude could not hit water if he fell out of a boat. But Curtis is doin what we are paying him to do and let’s just hope that continues.
I am very proud of what Lucas Duda has been doing after winning that first base job he is hitting the ball with authority even against the lefties staying inside and his defense has been really good as well, no Ike Davis but still getting it done. And speaking of Ike Davis he continues to experience the highs and lows that have for some time affected him but that is what happens when you are as supremely talented as Ike is. He is a Pirate now and hopefully free of position battles, freak injuries, illnesses and inconsistent playing time, he truly expects and will tell you if you ask him to rediscover all the highs. He was cheated out of an opportunity to show he can play every day despite doing everything he could to earn it. He left the Mets somewhat demoralized cause they didn’t even give him a chance. But he although he has not broken out as we know he will it is only a matter of time cause he has the ability the support of his teammates and the fans and although he very much misses the guys and he fans in NY he is very happy right now as a Pirate, the team has been so welcoming and encouraging and the fans so very welcoming I can tell you to hear that crowd Ike when he comes to the plate is so heartwarming the Pirate fans are very happy to have Ike. The Pirates have Davis under contract for two more seasons. He will play often because of the high number of right-handed starters the Pirates face, both in their division and across the league. As I said he still has not set the world on fore as a Pirate with about 25 at bats he has just 5 hits and is batting about .200. He did came out of the gate on fire with 5 for 13 in his first three games as a Pirate including a grand slam but then he went hitless in 16 straight at bats. But Ike will tell you he feels much more comfortable at the plate right now, it just takes time.
Ike seems to have found his David Wright look with lounge firmly in place
Then of course I have to mention the Irish hammer Daniel Murphy who is been on fire these last few weeks batting just about .320 an hitting the ball all over the field and get it done. Murph followed up Saturday’s four-hit game with a two-hit performance Sunday. Ok so I guess I have to mention his defense which has at times been shaky but let’s face it sometimes especially lately has been a bit off. But in spite of his shall we say goofy base running blunders I like his aggressiveness on the bases even if some are calling it borderline recklessness. I had to laugh when in trying to draw a throw home on a fake tag-up in the first inning, was caught straying too far off third base and was retired 7-5-6 when the ball was cut off, Oops. Then on Friday he got caught stealing at third base the problem was David Wright was batting and it depriving the Mets of a potentially big first inning. But all that aside his offense way makes up for his at times misdirected base running. I love his aggressiveness out there running the bases and so by the way does Terry Collins. Terry will never take off the green light he has given Daniel on the bases.
The boys got into Miami late last night or I should say early this morning on the flight form out west checking into the hotel at almost 2AM. It looks real nice in Florida judging from this hotel room picture
