NY Mets 2014

Sorry I have been here in a while been swamped with stuff to do and helping friends with projects
I am grateful to Saucy and Syam for keeping things going, Saucy with his outstanding recaps of the gams and insights have been awesome and my thanks to him for that.

So finally Dillon Gee came along and stopped the bleeding with our starting pitching which had imploded the last weeks hopefully this will be a turnaround for us and Niese will keep it going tonight in Miami. Gee was outstanding throwing 113 pitches of which 68 were strikes. Of course Colon is till big question casue when he is good he is good bit when he is bad as he has been he really stinks it up. Farnsworth will remain the closer despite a blown save Saturday.

Our crowded outfield got a little less so with Kirk Nieuwenhuis getting demoted. I was not happy with that although we kinda all knew he would be the man out but he is not upset cause he knows he will return and at least in AAA he will get to play more and work on his game which is important to him no one wanted to see him rusting away on the bench here in NY. He is ok after crashing and banging his elbow in one of his outstanding plays he is so famous for although he came out of the game he said it does not feel so bad today and expects to be back in today or tomorrow the injury is not severe.

Another terrific turn around has been Curtis Granderson who thanks God has seemed to have found his stoke and has been hitting the ball well he last few outings and contributing to the team I was so concerned that we had another Jason Bay on our hands, that dude could not hit water if he fell out of a boat. But Curtis is doin what we are paying him to do and let’s just hope that continues.

I am very proud of what Lucas Duda has been doing after winning that first base job he is hitting the ball with authority even against the lefties staying inside and his defense has been really good as well, no Ike Davis but still getting it done. And speaking of Ike Davis he continues to experience the highs and lows that have for some time affected him but that is what happens when you are as supremely talented as Ike is. He is a Pirate now and hopefully free of position battles, freak injuries, illnesses and inconsistent playing time, he truly expects and will tell you if you ask him to rediscover all the highs. He was cheated out of an opportunity to show he can play every day despite doing everything he could to earn it. He left the Mets somewhat demoralized cause they didn’t even give him a chance. But he although he has not broken out as we know he will it is only a matter of time cause he has the ability the support of his teammates and the fans and although he very much misses the guys and he fans in NY he is very happy right now as a Pirate, the team has been so welcoming and encouraging and the fans so very welcoming I can tell you to hear that crowd Ike when he comes to the plate is so heartwarming the Pirate fans are very happy to have Ike. The Pirates have Davis under contract for two more seasons. He will play often because of the high number of right-handed starters the Pirates face, both in their division and across the league. As I said he still has not set the world on fore as a Pirate with about 25 at bats he has just 5 hits and is batting about .200. He did came out of the gate on fire with 5 for 13 in his first three games as a Pirate including a grand slam but then he went hitless in 16 straight at bats. But Ike will tell you he feels much more comfortable at the plate right now, it just takes time.
Ike seems to have found his David Wright look with lounge firmly in place

Then of course I have to mention the Irish hammer Daniel Murphy who is been on fire these last few weeks batting just about .320 an hitting the ball all over the field and get it done. Murph followed up Saturday’s four-hit game with a two-hit performance Sunday. Ok so I guess I have to mention his defense which has at times been shaky but let’s face it sometimes especially lately has been a bit off. But in spite of his shall we say goofy base running blunders I like his aggressiveness on the bases even if some are calling it borderline recklessness. I had to laugh when in trying to draw a throw home on a fake tag-up in the first inning, was caught straying too far off third base and was retired 7-5-6 when the ball was cut off, Oops. Then on Friday he got caught stealing at third base the problem was David Wright was batting and it depriving the Mets of a potentially big first inning. But all that aside his offense way makes up for his at times misdirected base running. I love his aggressiveness out there running the bases and so by the way does Terry Collins. Terry will never take off the green light he has given Daniel on the bases.

The boys got into Miami late last night or I should say early this morning on the flight form out west checking into the hotel at almost 2AM. It looks real nice in Florida judging from this hotel room picture

Nice pics, Sonny and thanks for the nice words! First time I ever saw Ike channel his inner David Wright with the tongue action!;) I hope he settles down with Pittsburgh... he just needs confidence and a good streak going and as we've seen before he can take it from there. Glad you were able to help Ike out with his move to Pittsburgh and lend support and a friendly face as he made his adjustment to the trade, it's always a big thing moving from one organization you grow up with to a new one and glad you could be there for him. (the baseball fest you had was a great bonus, though!);) Glad to also hear Captain Kirk's injury after that great catch wasn't serious and he should be back in the lineup on a day to day situation... he definitely if he continues to play well will return to Citi Field soon enough! How has Matt de Dekker been doing, btw?

I know you were also helping out others plus I'm sure you did a little work for Dad, gotta get yourself back to reality now after all that and realize you've been crazy busy and just so many things on your plate but glad you're back and hopefully you come in whenever you have the opportunity, always great to have your perspectives here.

Now for the bad Sausy:twisted: to make an appearance......... I'm glaring at the Mets bullpen(other than Kyle Farnsworth who actually remembered how well he was pitching this season before his last few blowups and kept the Mets in the game in the eighth) as Dice K was atrocious, maybe his calf was still bothering him but with Torres and Familia being rested tonight we need dependability and we fucking didn't get it. Jon Niese pitches a whale of a game going seven innings allowing no runs on five hits (108 pitches total) and gets NOTHING out of it. Dice K allowed the Marlins to tie in the eighth scoring three runs while only getting one out. Omar Quantanilla helped in making a crucial error(when is it going to occur to the Mets staying with Tejada with Quantanilla as the backup instead of the reliable Stephen Drew still out there as a free agent is a classic case of being penny wise and pound foolish?)

Scott Rice and Germen Gonzalez took turns screwing up the ninth and completely turned what was a 3-0 lead when Jon Niese left after seven to a 4-3 Marlins walk off victory. Totally INEXCUSABLE....... you can't let games like this get away. Big bats in tonight's game coincidentally were two guys that Sonny mentioned positively in his post, Daniel Murphy and Curtis Granderson both with home runs. Newly called out veteran outfielder Bobby Abreu had the other Met RBI with a sacrifice fly. Our boys gotta pick themselves up today and move forward... Let's go, Mets!

One thing about Murph, btw........ he's definitely even with his occasional recklessness as sonny said a big positive for the Mets especially offensively. He just has to do less of the streaky peaks and valleys he had last year, he would be near impossible to get out for awhile then you wouldn't hear from him for a few games, and the pattern would usually repeat. We know Daniel's great when he gets going, and though may not hit more than 10-15 homers always seems around 40 doubles when healthy. He has been phenomenal stealing, just had that streak broken unfortunately as sonny mentioned but who would have thought him a threat on the bases beforehand? Probably just Daniel who makes up with heart, aggressiveness and daring what he lacks in pure speed but he does overdo it sometimes and can get a little goofy, but then again you don't want to change his makeup, just refine things more and be smarter. Even with the occasional defensive mistake Murh has shown he can make eye opening plays too and has come a long way proving he can be certainly at least adequate defensively at second as we know his offensive capability.

Disappointing loss last nite as the "Bullpen Blews" reawaken. As Sausy said Farnsworth did a great job escaping the eighth inning mess without giving up any more runs, but the rest of them just pretty much sucked. Jon Niese was outstanding over 7 innings, and the offense did enough for a 3-0 lead, but Dice K was just awful and the ninth inning guys did nothing, although Quintanilla's error certainly didn't help matters. One that got away. Let's go Mets!!

No bullpen malfunction to worry about tonight, just no offense. When there may have been opportunities they made baserunning mistakes, hit balls on the nose right to the fielders or simply couldn't come through as the Mets lose the second of three against the Miami Marlins 3-0. After his debacle in the Rockies last week Bartolo Colon was solid this time going seven innings allowing three runs on five hits but offense just couldn't get going, or at least be opportunistic. Final game of the series tomorrow before a Thursday off day and the Mets return home, the highlight next week being the Subway Series against the Yankees. Hope they can end the road trip tomorrow on a positive note to come home so like syam implores "Let's go, Mets!"

No offense against young Marlin's stud Tom Koehler( A New York City kid) doomed the Mets to another loss in Miami, swept three games going under .500 with a 16-17 record in a frustrating 1-0 pitcher's duel despite a very gutsy effort by Mets young stud Zack Wheeler. After his disastrous last start in Colorado in which he failed to go five innings and gave up seven runs while he did struggle with his control especially later in the game, Wheeler showed the inner fire he has and escaped trouble of his own making in the sixth. Three walks allowed in the inning but had a nice double play turned on a grounder to short and struck out his seventh batter of the game despite allowing a total of five walks for the game. Zack allowed only two hits and left in a 0-0 tie after six. Definitely showed a lot of toughness when his control issues revisited him but he got the job done.

Mets could do nothing though, the only two hits they had were a double by David Wright and base hit by Lucas Duda. Like I mentioned native New Yorker Tom Koehler who is making such a great impression for the Marlins was utterly dominant over eight giving up only two hits and no runs. Marlins won in the bottom of the ninth when Marlins outfielder Marcell Ozuna hit a sacrifice fly to center off of Mets Kyle Farnsworth to score right fielder Giancarlo Stanton. Mets have an off day today as they return home for a weekend series against the Philadelphia Phillies and then an away and home 2 games apiece Subway Series with the New York Yankees.

So, whose offense is worse, the NY Rangers or the NY Mets???? I can't tell the difference. ANyway, a nice effort from Zach Wheeler goes for naught. Omar Quintanilla has been designated for assignment, he has not been much of a help this season. It appears Wilmer Flores may be recalled for shortstop duties to help with the offense. The bats need to wake up!! Lets go Mets!!

So what the fluck is happing with our offense? Such a shame after that great performance by Zack last night the boys gave him no run support we have seen this many times before and can only hope it is not long before they start hitting again. Even DWright who has not homered since Opening Day and is hitting about .227 he has been here before and will bounce back and so will the others they are frustrated and miffed by what is going on and it is not just great pitching from the other teams it is just a collective loss of seeing the ball well and swinging at bad pitches. No worries on my part I know they will turn it around. We cannot waste another terrific outing from our pitchers again, yesterday Zack Wheeler tossed six scoreless innings he was dominating into the middle innings, but once again as his way walked four of the final seven batters he faced and had to l be taken out with his pitch count at 104. Still, he made the pitch when he had to and except for the walks I thought he had a good overall day and had a good pitch count going through the game till he started throwing balls which blew up his pitch count and had to come out earlier than we would have liked basically running out gas. Still I thought he had the best combination of command and stuff seen since I saw him in the minors he’s just gotta figure out how to keep that pitch count down and go deeper into games. I really liked how he got himself out of trouble showing he was able to mentally get out of it. His performance followed a magnificent performance from Gee who is quickly becoming our ace. But it’s the offense that needs to get going for sure which was not helped by the Marlins pitching and huge Park. I saw some signs of life yesterday when some of the guys squared some balls up and hit some balls hard. But they are just not locked in. Some of the worst hitting is coming from our pitchers, now we don’t normally expect very much from these guys except maybe get a good sac bunt down when we need one but they are 0-for-58 and that is just unacceptable they gotta help out more by the way how exasperating annoying and downright pitiful is Colon’s at bats good God he is just awful. I mean I can’t even watch that fool swing a bat it is just so pathetic.
Our other major problem remains with our leaky poison pen a situation that never seems to get better they have had a few shinny moments but for the most part they are dragging us down. We have no closer for say with Parnell down its Farnsworth, Valverdie or God forbid Dice-K whose command is just dreadful. I am sick of watching guys like Wheeler Gee and Niese pitch a gem only to turn the most important part of the game over to bunch of inferior pitchers who blow it for us. We cannot compete and be in any kind of race with the backend of our pen as it stands now. I know they have talked about Mejia closing he does seem to start out ok but in the third time thru the lineup he losses it just about in the fifth inning. Plus with all those great young arms coming in next year I cannot see Mejia making it as a starter in 2015 so maybe closing would work for him I really think a lot will depend on how well he pitches Friday night I have to think he will be pitching for his job in that game. My only concern would be would take his spot I know they think it may be too soon for Syndergaard. Of course my position remains the same we need to bring up some of young arms now starting with Montero (my Cyclones buddy) or maybe deGrom cause the current staff aint cutting it
With Omar Quintanilla designated last night I thought maybe something was gonna happen with a move in our pen although the Mets have not yet announced a move for Omar what we heard was it will be an internal promotion, not the addition of a free agent like Stephen Drew or a trade, but Wilmer Flores was recalled From Las Vegas this morning soooooo. Ya gotta think that major boo boo Omar made during the Marlins series did him in. The shortstop position continues to be a problem for us with Tejada so streaky and Omar failing. Here is an idea why the Hell did you guys let Justin Turner go? He played better SS than both those guys.

Saucy you asked about Matt den Dekker I should tell you he is just fine and feeling great he just missed hitting for the cycle last week all he needed was a double in game when he went 3-for-4 including five RBIs, four runs scored and a pair of walks. Matt said he thought about it and does not remember the last time he played in a game that well prolly have to go all the way back to high school for sure it did not happen in college or in the pros. It was a career high day for Matt.

Thanks for the update on Matt den Dekker and your perspective on the Met's frustrating combo of shaky middle relief and lousy offense. My thing about Wilmer Flores is that as much as his bat will help he really can't be used at short because he's just not that flexible or rangy there and we don't need to better our offense at the cost of steady defense. Tejada may not be the answer, he's just not playing well but he'll get to more balls than Wilmer whose body is filling out and maybe is the answer even over Lucas Duda long term at first base.

Why does that Mets hitting coach Bob Hudgens still have the job anyway when his history so far is that he hasn't helped the team approach to hitting at all? He's not made them better and I really don't care if he's a buddy of manager Terry Collins when the job isn't getting done you try another person with another approach. He'd never do it on an official capacity but I'm sure a person like Keith Hernandez would impress his hitting philosophy on the players... of course the hitting coach can't go out there and just compel better at bats out of the guys but good ones make their philosophies stick with players. Way to many times under Hudgens there just isn't a sense the guys have a real fix on what approach they should take... the Mets have to get someone in there that can get the Mets offense, at least a significant number of players, to take better, more flexible approaches to the different pitching they see. Hudgens just doesn't really appear to have made anyone better, so the Mets should cut their losses with him and bring in a hitting coach who can impart a sensible hitting/ plate philosophy to the Mets lineup.

Two rough games to lose to start a homestand especially against the hated rival Phillies who are enduring struggles themselves. Lost Friday 3-2 with Jennry Mejia still dealing with bouts of command problems. In four and two thirds innings allowed six hits but didn't break unlike his terrible effort against the Rockies and only allowed two runs while walking three and striking out four. Last year's solid contributor to the Mets Marlon Byrd won it for the Phillies in the 11th with an RBI.

Tonight Dillon Gee lost his shutout streak at 16 innings but pitched overall well going six innings allowing three runs, all in the first two innings, on six hits. Mets however wound up losing again 5-4. David Wright had a great night getting three hits and driving in three runs on a double and homer. The Captain has been solid after a bit of a slow start in recent games but hasn't received nearly enough help in the lineup. Also rookie Eric Campbell, primarily a first baseman-outfielder replacing Josh Satin on the roster, was the first Met to have a sacrifice fly RBI as his first at bat. While appearing until close to gametime(delayed over a half hour by thunderstorms)to be preparing his first major league start as first baseman Lucas Duda's availability due to a stomach ailment was uncertain he did indeed come off the bench as Duda got healthy enough to get put back in the lineup tonight. Campbell drove in the fourth run to tie the Phillies, but Kyle Farnsworth got smacked again in the ninth for the loss. Second straight loss to the rival Phillies and with the previous loss of two games out of three to Arizona, Met are now in a very rough patch after looking good as April ended they've had something of a May swoon to drop their record from 15-11 to 16-19. Not in good place right now, and the fans are getting impatient waiting for more sustained consistency instead of very sharp peeks and valleys as currently experiencing.

Wow! About time we get another of these.... a thrilling come from behind 5-4 win fueled by a three run ninth capped by a two run homer by the Irish Hammer himself, Daniel Murphy and a sacrifice fly from Juan Lagares that brought the Mets back from a 4-1 deficit against the Phillies taking the game to extra innings. Then the out of favor shortstop Ruben Tejada had his biggest moment of the year singling in the winning run in the 11th to the delight of his teammates, the crowd and Mets fans everywhere!

Jon Niese started, not his best outing but solid for six innings allowing three runs on eight hits. Other than Jose Valverde stinking it up from the bullpen and allowing a run in the eighth everyone else used, Dice K.. Jeurys Familia and Scott Rice did their jobs. Eric Young had three hits and scored a couple of runs and Murph too had a great overall day, to go along with his homer he added two doubles.

Tonight Mets head on over for two games to Yankee Stadium for part 1 of the Subway Series vs the Yanks.... part two Wednesday/ Thursday back over at Citi Field. Definitely should be fun for the organizations and fans of New York City pro baseball!:D

Was working so I had to keep up with the first game of the Subway Series in Yankee Stadium at work on my cellphone.... was so jazzed to see that a 4-1 Yankee lead wind up a thrilling 9-7 Mets victory! Our boys had their homering faces on as Curtis Granderson had a two run homer to tie the game at 4, Travis D'Arnaud slugged an opposite field shot, Eric Young of all people added a solo homer but the topper was Chris Young who put the Mets in the lead for good with a two run homer after Lucas Duda blooped a single to score young utility player Eric Campbell who hustled his way to a double to get the final rally going.

Brett Gardner hit a grand slam against Mets starter Bartolo Colon who was pretty atrocious given up seven runs and putting the Mets in a tough spot, but our boys responded brilliantly and going into the ninth, the Mets bullpen was tremendous. Despite his own preference to start rather than relieve Jennry Mejia was tremendous coming in to finish the seventh and pitching the eighth striking out two batters. Mejia was animated an pumped and as disappointed he is to relieve he will put his all in it, saying he was a team player and not one who just played for himself. Certainly a great start to his new situation and no doubt quality person he is Jennry whatever it takes to excel in his new role. Coming up Wednesday to take his place in the rotation is the highly touted Rafael Montero, who has several really good quality pitches and is the latest in the line of highly regarded starting rotation studs the Mets have been groming/ trading for over the past few years( Jon Niese,Matt Harvey, Rafael Montero for instance developed within the system, with Zack Wheeler and the next big pitching stud Noah Syndegaard highly regarded pitching prospects the Mets were shrewdly able to acquire for veterans Carlos Beltran and RA Dickey),

Mets did luck out in the ninth as Kyle Farnsworth was tagged hard but saved when hobbled Yankee first baseman Mark Teixeira(groin) had to play it carefully and hold to a single driving a pitch into the gap to right setting up a potential double play, with Derek Jeter stopping at third. That did happen when Lucas Duda made a spectacular diving stop on Yankee catcher Brian McCann and started a spectacular double play tossing to David Wright who had ranged over to second and made a slick scoop to get the final out.... great defensive play for Lucas, not known as a slick glove but got Mets fans cheering with that play!

Looking forward to tomorrow night and then the two games through Thursday at Citi Field....Let's go, Mets!

Well, the NL East is still fairly close. The Braves aren't running away with anything. The Phillies are just inconsistent and the local press seems to consider them overachievers. A local radio sports guy who I won't name wrote a scathing article criticizing Ben Revere as just not good enough. (I strongly disagree.)

I still have David Wright in my fantasy teams (only two this year) and I'm still glad about that. I also have Troy Tulowitski, which also makes me very happy.

The NL East is thankfully still competitive so hopefully the Mets can play well enough to hang around all year, and perhaps surprise. Philly's press and fan base are always critical, lol even in good times ! Never really saw Ben Revere play, nice contact hitter with very good speed and defense but can't say too much either in raise or criticism other than what I already know. DWright after a slow start is hitting well and Troy's a real good player... wish we had him at shortstop than what we currently have in either Ruben Tejada who has just regressed and Wilmer Flores, who just isn't good enough defensively to justify him playing there regularly even if he does hit as expected. Always glad to see you coming in here, Thad!

OMG, last night was amazing.... 12-7 Mets barrage over the Yanks fueled by three run homers by Curtis Granderson and Daniel "Irish Hammer" Murphy! David Wright drove in two runs with a couple of big hits including a double and before mentioned Tejada and Juan Lagares drove in runs with singles and Lucas Duda doubled in a run as well. Not a great night for Yankee fans seeing again their pitching just not hold up well at all but the Mets really needed a couple of nights like this and offensively Mets fans had to like what they saw and the bullpen was for the most part very good. However the one disconcerting point was Zack Wheeler again beset by control problems (6 walks) and getting hit around some too, failing to last 5 full innings and giving up 5 runs. He has shown enough that he can be much beter than this, and has mentioned his determination to become efficient so he can pitch longer into games and help leave his teammates with a better chance to win games but a few times lately he really hasn't been able to display any kind of consistent command and last night what saved his butt was the offensive explosion, the Mets pulling away from the Yankees after Murph's big three run blast.

Zack really needs to get his command going better because the Mets don't often explode offensively like the past couple of nights, and that cannot be counted on. We need the starters to keep things close and also to keep our bullpen, already inconsistent, from being overburdened. Think I saw Jake de Grom besides tonight's new starter Rafael Montero has been called up from AAA Las Vegas to help in the bullpen. Tonight we shift to City Field.... hopefully the Mets can continue to have the party going against the Yankees in this always epic Subway Series battle for New York City baseball!

Well Dillon Gee is out at least two weeks with a strained lat muscle, nothing more serious thankfully but it could take a little longer than that to completely recover. Strains and pulls like those muscles can keep players out a month or more depending on the severity. Sucks because Gee's been one of the best pitchers in the league so far, really coming into his own with his command and mix of pitches including a sneaky fast low 90s heater more effective than people expect. He will be replaced in the rotation by another young Mets up and coming starter from AAA Las Vegas, Jake de Grom.

Last night Rafael Montero made his MLB debut at Citi against the Yankees as part II of the Subway Series commenced. Pitched impressively in his debut going six innings allowing three runs on five hits, gave up a couple of homers including one to Mark Teixeira that was a nice launch but despite a couple of bad pitches and a bit off of his control even the Yankees were impressed by his stuff and poise. He looks like another gem for the Mets but our boys were completely overmatched in a brilliant display by Yankees first year import from Japan Masahiro Tanaka who went the distance on a four hit shutout jewel, 4-0 and improved his record to an incredible 6-0. Finale of the Sub way Series tonight including likely the presentation to retiring Yankee legend Derek Jeter of a special gift of appreciation he has received from each of the major league clubs, similar to last year's farewell your of Mariano Rivera. Then the homestand concludes with a weekend series against the Phillies.

My bad, Mets going to face the Nats this weekend... not the Phillies. Sick of some of the Mets complaining about how roomy CitiField is.... it's certainly not as bad as when it opened and Shea Stadium wasn't a hitter's paradise either. Yes, they had fun in Yankee Stadium and hit some home runs there that may not have carried at Citi... but Yankee pitchers don't bemoan having to pitch half there games there and the Yankees compensate some by emphasizing lefty pitchers. Mets cannot keep striking out like sluggers who feast or famine and have to use the whole field at Citi... and yes, some home runs can be hit there if you hit right, and don't try to hit everything out of the park.

It's understandable losing 4-0 to Tanaka Wednesday night... he's got so many pitches and is incredibly tough especially with no frame of reference. But Yankees only scored 1 run last night , Brian McCann scoring on Alfonso Soriano's double. I'm not going to even blame David Wright for failing to turn a double play in the inning which would have negated Mc Cann, because it was a pretty tough play. What I am upset about is we struck out 14 times against essentially lesser lights and just looked completely out of whack at the plate. Sad when rookie Jacob de Grom pitched an incredible first game giving up the one run in the seventh and four hits in seven innings, showing good control and striking out six. You just can't lose like this... you just can't play like this... to let the Yankees get by splitting the series and you looking so bad in the process at the plate.

Maybe they can do something in Washington, DC but the Mets need an attitude adjustment in playing on their home field pronto. It's crybaby excuses and nothing else if they whine about how unfair CitiField plays. Well, play better there or get better players. Typical as the Mets can raise your spirits for a bit with surprisingly good play, then crash to Earth with a series of stinkers that make you wonder if our boys will ever really be good again.

Travis d'Arnaud has been put on the 7 day concussion list due to getting hit on the head accidentally by Alfonso Soriano's bat on a backswing at Yankee Stadium earlier in the week. Hopefully he'll come back as scheduled with no lasting ill effects. Juan Centeno has been called up and will share the catching duties for the next week with Anthony Recker.

Old friend Ike Davis is coming to Yankee Stadium this weekend with his new club, the Pittsburgh Pirates hitting better in May for average though just one homer for the Pirates so far, his early arrival grand slam in a Pirates victory. Unfortunately the first game tonight has been postponed due to the threat of bad weather.

Was a good series with the Mets and it just goes to show you can't predict baseball.
Our pitching went from sucking to being outstanding in the course of a four game series.
Good series overall but I'm hoping next year, we'll actually all be healthy for it.

Yeah, Ninja... I like things competitive between the two New York clubs but just didn't like how the Mets reverted into their loser form so markedly once they went back to CitiField. Always look forward to a great series for New York baseball, though.

My heart sunk after last night's game in DC vs the Nationals.... it looked like another Mets stinker as the usually solid Jon Niese just didn't have it last night and the Mets were offering little resistance offensively til the end, when after two walks Daniel Murphy hits a drive that tempts as a game tying three run homer but just didn't have enough and was caught at the wall by Nat's right fielder Jayson Werth... Mets downed 5-2. Just so frustrating to lose like that and frustrating the Mets don't take it more to the opposition instead of being in the position of crawling out of a big hole. Hope our boys get right fairly quickly, tired of getting my hopes up and then they play like crap for a stretch.

All the Juan Lagares benching stuff seems to be playing like a media circus to sell newspapers and drum up controversy but yesterday happily proved to be the Juan Lagares show. The Mets reversed Friday night's score and won 5-2 in Washington against Gio Gonzalez and the Washington Nats. Lagares had three RBI singling in a run early and in the third launched a two run homer, his second. For good measure, he made an outstanding rob of a Jayson Werth bid for a homer in the sixth which would have closed the Nats to 5-3 jumping up with his glove snaring it in over the fence. Rookie Eric Campbell also had a nice game driving in two in the first with a single.

Bartolo Colon after a stinkbomb his last effort was very good going eight innings allowing five hits, and two runs (thanks though to Lagares for his outstanding defensive play taking away a certain homer from Jayson Werth as mentioned)and Jennry Mejia did a great job closing it out in the ninth.

Zack Wheeler this afternoon, then on off game tomorrow as the Mets return home. Hopefully with better results than the disappointing home part of the Subway Series with the Yankees.

Yesterdays game was a stinker from the start one of those games ya just wanna turn of in disgust. I have a lot to say and will try and get in here later or tomorrow. I have so much going on with work and now pre season work with the Cyclones has me very busy. I cant seem to find the time to get in here and sound off properly. Thanks for keeping the thread going will return soon.

Not a problem Sonny, between your family's business and prepping for the new Cyclones season there has got to be a lot on your plate and appreciate whenever you can give us your perspectives. I'm kind of bummed about today but do have to say that while Zack Wheeler was shaky unlike some of his recent starts his walks were down (2 in 6 innings) and he ended theday strog with a 123 sixth inning, topped off with a nasty off speed strikeout(his 5th of the game). Allowing five hits and five runs wasn't optimal but at least he really improved in efficiency... 89 pitches a very solid 63 for strikes. Zack though has to improve location and make smarter pitches.... unlike Harvey who really grew quickly when promoted to the big club Wheeler is still a work in progress, sometimes showing exhilarating signs, other times frustrating and agita inducing because you know he can do so much more.

Mets downed 6-3 to end the series with the Nats. Juan Lagares drove in another run with a single and just recalled AAA Las Vegas 51's Juan Centeno had a pair of RBI singles and David Wright had a pair of hits, scoring a run. Off day tomorrow and a lot for the Mets to contemplate, as individual players and as an organization. Definitely looking forward to sonny's perspectives.
