Spring's here again, and with all the trials and tribulations after falling to mediocrity over the past few years as Mets fans we always gotta believe! Well, things started out on a promising note getting back ace in making Matt Harvey from recuperation over Tommy John surgery as well as Bobby Parnell, hindered by disc and shoulder woes for over the past season plus...and team captain David Wright from shoulder woes. However, this IS the Mets... so we know better, unfortunately things don't usually work out as well as hoped. Early on first baseman Lucas Duda pulled a chest muscle overdoing exercises to prepare for the new season and just recently is easing back but at least he should be fine. It's a lot more complex in the pitching department for the Mets as both highly regarded young starter Zack Wheeler and erratic but still promising lefty reliever Josh Edgin have gone down with elbow ligament tears that have each requiring to undergo Tommy John surgery.

I just am flummoxed over all those pitchers with elbow woes that require the season ending surgery over the past few years in baseball. It's been particularly nasty here with this organization, though the prognosis for most who undergo the surgery is good not only to re-establish their careers but to prosper. Not always the case, though.... remember Jeremy Hefner? Actually looked like he was going to move from unsung journeyman to solid starting pitcher a couple of years back but same year as Harvey tore an elbow ligament and received TJ surgery and has had complications which may require a second TJ surgery. So it's great to have Harvey back and there's still a good chance Wheeler and even Edgin could have successful careers when they recover from surgery and build their arm back up... however it's still not a given. That's why it's good the Mets didn't, despite fan hopes, surrender a couple of valuable young arms(or even solid if unspectacular ones like Dillon Gee or Jonathon Niese) for a risky commodity like Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzski, who's turning 31 and has injury issues over the winter. You may well have to trade from surplus eventually, but with the health of arms in such a precarious state in MLB you have to have pitching depth if you want to be successful year in, year out.

Anyway, I hope Sonny is still around reading and comes back here very soon. It's really weird with all the Mets news not even one peep from our baseball loving friend and I hope all is well with him. Definitely if you're reading this, lurking.. just hope you can come back soon as we're entering an interesting transition year. Can we really move forward and be competitive or is the organization kidding itself? It might feel at different times either one may be true. I know, though as most Mets fans will attest... it will be a wild ride, lol! Let's all hope that it is all well worth it, and will be for some time to come!

Look forward to anyone with an interest in the New York Mets to come aboard and tell what their perspective is, and have fun here talking New York Mets 2015!:D

Well, Sausy's, it hasn't been a great spring for the Mets so far, but still relatively early. The next two and a half weeks should see if their house is in order. The injuries are tough, but the one area the Mets have quality people is in pitching, so Gee, Montero, Sydagaard, or Matz will fill in for Wheeler, and a bullpen replacement will be found for Edgin, perhaps Brian Matusz of the O's. Flores has done well at bat, DWright has a couple of extra base hits, so providing Duda rounds into shape should be a fun season.

Losing Wheeler will be a big blow for sure.
Is it me or are there more TJS these days?

It's a big problem these days in a number of organizations... shoulder injuries(rotator cuff) used to be the most problematic but this elbow ligament thing really has risen exponentially as a fact of life throughout MLB and its minor league systems. One good thing though is for the most part, careers are not threatened(though sometimes setbacks happen, like to Mets pitcher Jeremy Hefner who may require a second TJ surgery after another tear)and many if not most who recover successfully still appear to rebound well and prosper. Still it would be nice for those involved to try to pinpoint what factors can directly be implicated in just why so many elbows are requiring surgery... it's still 12-18 months out of a career and even if you do rebound successfully you can't get that back. How best to prevent it should be a major priority both as a health and investment issue.

THe Mets picked up lefty Alex Torres from the Padres for Cory Mazzoni and a player to be named later. Torres has had a couple of seasons in MLB with the Padres and has good numbers as a relief pitcher. This should help solidify the bullpen issue as far as lefties are concerned. Gilmartin the Rule 5 selection has been pitching well as of late, so may stick with the team as well. Alvarez has done better lately, too, but may have minor league options left at this point.

Mets get Jerry Blevins from Nats for Matt Den Dekkar. Not as upbeat about Blevins, he's been lit up this spring, but does have a pretty good track record vs lefties. Den Dekkar is great defensively, but struggles at times at bat, and would not have been on the Mets 25 man roster. Let's go Mets!

As the new season is about to start Monday kinda bummed and worried because heard nothing from sonny, either here or privately...hasn't been around in over four months, hope he's okay. still though want to keep this thread going and hope to see syam and gtru and others around, please if you haven't commented here before please do so, we're definitely excited on hearing your perspectives as Mets fans!

Sonny, hoping you do come back if you read this.... we'll always leave the thread light on for ya!

Harvey is ready to go, as is de Grom. Rafael Montero seems to have the pinpoint control he was known for but lost last season back, and Dillon Gee and Jonathon Niese look ready to go too. Kirk Nieuwenhuis has been so good as the prospective fourth outfielder that Mets traded Matt den Dekker to the Nats for lefty relief help in Jerry Blevins as syam mentioned, which for the club was essential especially with Tommy John surgery for lefty Josh Edgin. Hoping with his Tommy John surgery out of the way for a timely, complete recovery for Zack Wheeler, though it's more likely than not we won't see him back on the club til after the All Star break next season with about 15 months or so of recovery time after the surgery on average, plus getting himself back to playing shape.

Juan Lagares gets a surprise long term extension through 2019, with a club option for 2020 which definitely helps with cost certainty.... may lock up Lucas Duda through 2019 as well which would be huge. Michael Cuddyer has been pounding the ball all spring and for power as well, David Wright looks fit and ready to go, houlder fine after last year's injury... made a gorgeous reflex play a few days back and just hope he remains healthy and positive.

Nice way for the Mets to open the season with a 3-1 win over the Nats. Colon out pitched Scherzer and got clutch hits from Duda and d'Arnaud following errors by Desmond to score 3 unearned runs. The Mets bullpen shut down the Nationals to close it out. As with most Mets good stories, there always seems to be negative stuff too, that being Mejia having a sore elbow. Diagnosis is just inflammation, but he goes on the DL as a precaution, and the Mets recall Goeddel from Vegas. Rain forecast for Wed, but in case they play, Let's go Mets!!

Yeah, was going to say the same thing, syam... a really great opening day win, nice pitching by Colon and several relievers and clutch hitting by Lucas Duda and Travis d'Arnaud off of Scherzer, then we get the almost inevitable bad news about Mejia's barking elbow. With his past TJ surgery a big worry but like you mentioned fortunately just inflammation requiring a DL stint for rest and recovery. We always seem to have to sweat something but really nice win at the Nats and hoping like you say if weather permits for Wednesday, "Let's go, Mets"!

Great start by Matt Harvey, first regular season effort after returning from Tommy John surgery. In the Mets win Thursday in Washington against the Nats the Dark Knight was superb, flashing a blistering fastball often going 95-97 and a wicked breaking ball. Struck out nine in his six innings including whiffing Bryce Harper three times and only walked one giving up four hits. What a way to get going and give the Mets a huge boost... the Nats coaches and players were definitely impressed with Harvey and it's so good to see that yes, he's all the way back and looking like he hadn't missed a beat since the last time he pitched in 2013. Gotta be so encouraging how sharp and in command he was and you know whatever he does outside the white lines enjoying his status there is nobody who's going to out work or out focus him when he's preparing for his stats and in game situations.

Big performances of the day include two hits and two RBI for David Wright, a couple of hits and two RBI by new right fielder Michael Cuddyer, two hits and two RBI by catcher Travis d'Arnaud and a hit and RBI by Daniel Murphy.

A very nice win by the Mets, supporting Matt Harvey. He was superb! Nats couldn't touch him, and the Mets hitters bounced Strasburg out early scoring four in the third. On to Atlanta, Let's go Mets!!

Great performance by Jacob DeGrom yesterday at the home opener with the Phillies as the Mets won 2-0 to a full house, one of the largest ever at Citi. Wasn't always sharp but in six scoreless innings always made the right pitch when he needed to. He doesn't emote like tonight's starter Matt Harvey but he is no doubt no less lethal as a quiet assassin type on the mound. Going to be electric tonight with Matt on the mound.... let's go, Mets!

Well, the Mets are on a bit of a roll, with a 5 game winning streak, including a 3 game sweep of the Phillies! It's been a combo of decent pitching and some timely hitting. Duda has been hot, Flores chipped in with a 3 run bomb last nite, and Cuddyer has been steady in the cleanup spot. THe bullpen has done a pretty good job, even as we move on to Familia being the closer. Mejia, of course, got himself suspended for 80 games with his PED use. IDIOT!! And we wouldn't be the Mets without other bad news, that being David Wright on the DL with a hamstring pull. The Mets are showing some fight though, and continue to play good baseball. Lets go Mets!!

Yep Syam, and we continued it today with Colon pitching well going seven innings and giving up just one run in a 4-1 Mets victory against the Marlins.... six in a row!!! Let's keep it up this weekend, guys!

Winning streak at 9!! Jon Niese pitched effectively, and got solid bullpen work to beat the Braves in game 1 of this series. Granderson awakened with his first 4 RBI of the season and Kevin Plawecki debuted and collected his first MLB hit in place of the injured d'Arnaud. Dillon Gee goes tonite, Let's go Mets!,

Tonight will determine who wins round 1 of the Subway Series!
Go YANKS!

After splitting the first two games of the Subway Series, the Mets played like the '62 Mets with horrible defense and mediocre starting pitching, and baserunning mistakes. Well, good to get that game out of their system before heading to Miami to face the Marlins who got hot against the Nationals over the weekend. It's time to step it back up vs divisional foes. Lets go Mets!!

Still nothing from Sonny, huh... what happened to him I wonder?

He should be here taking about these young pitchers and the demotion of Gee and trade rumors and such.

I tried to contact him by way of PM, nothing. The Mets even brought back a favorite of his just cut from the Angels, Kirk Nieuwenhuis. I wonder if Sonny was even real, or one of those fakers who lie about who they are JUB had more than enough of in the past... I really want to believe there is a sonny 10305 and hope he is okay and somehow could just get it out even through another Jubber that he's okay.

So much going on with the Mets, both positive and not... hopefully we can hear about or from him sometime soon. Great game today by Jacob de Grom, seven innings and two runs with five hits allowed and nine strikeouts. However the bullpen let us down and the offense as usual couldn't generate an extra rally once the relief faltered with Robles and Carlos Torres and Atlanta got it done in the 11th thanks to John Maybin's clutch hit which drove in two for the 5-3 final score.

Well im a mets fan too... I been to the old shea and citi field too... I cant believe 5 games over .500 going into All Stars week...
