I'm no floral expert but I think I remember an old men telling me that Dahlias are very much like chrysanthemums. And that a good, prize-winning Dahlia bloom is as big as your own face.

My floral-expert buddy says the way to distinguish dahlias from chrysanthemums is to look at the leaves. Dahlia leaves are shaped like rose leaves, though they have a different texture. Chrysanthemum leaves have lots of indentations (and they go nicely in a Sichuan hotpot).
