Obama is failing

Yes, well, unfortunately the whole healthcare debate is not squarely centered on your personal happiness in regards to it. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few

We'll all be equal at the voting booth. I suspect it'll be a cold day in hell before the many will trust a Democrat again.

It took the most abusive Republican administration in recent memory to persuade the voters to give a the Dems a marginal win last time. They are going to sacrifice their majority for this piece of trash bill. If this thing passes the celebration won't last long.

I do not necessarily think he is failing. I think the pile of horse shit he walked into is/was too big to handle quickly. But people will expect quicker results so when they don't get it the Dems will be in trouble in the mid term elections next year. He's done nothing on the environment or gay rights. While those are not necessarily the two most important issues, they are two that I am interested in and I don't think they are high on his priorities list right now with everything else he has to deal with.

And as for the comment about the dems being in control the last 2 years of the Bush presidency, that is only marginally true. They had bare majorities and Bush Vetoed anything he didn't like. They didn't have the votes to over ride a veto so there was nothing they could have done.

Bullshit. The Republicans controlled everything. But sure, some Democrats are to blame for "parts" of the shit we are in now...but it's mostly Bush's and Cheney's and the Rep's fucking fault. Thanks for playing. :p

That's just a blatant lie. You're not telling the truth and its making you look as transparently partisan as any of the other wingnut hacks (on either side) that populate this forum.

I agree entirely, Jack, but I don't necessarily think a third option will solve the problem. The money in politics is strangling America, because politicians owe more to their contributors than they do to their constituents. A third party would probably be open to the same corruption and bribery.

In my opinion, the only way to rescue America from a political system that has stopped serving it's people is to put the people back in control and remove ALL political contributions. (The same goes for Australia's political system, too!)

Come to think of it, didn't Obama promise to fix that too?

There is money in politics for two reasons:
  • The government controls so much money.
  • The bizarre belief that organizations have free speech rights.

The first is the deeper and more powerful reason; the second is less integral and easier to fix: just don't allow any donations from anything that can't cast a ballot.

Churches, unions, clubs, associations, corporations, fraternities -- they can't vote. If they can't vote, they don't have free speech. If they don't have free speech, they shouldn't be donating a single cent -- period.

Unless there is unhesitating, unanimous support of everyone involved with the donating entity, that donation constitutes a violation of the objector's free speech, and thus theft.

We need a constitutional amendment that gets all money out of politics except from voters -- period. I don't care if it's issues, parties, causes, or candidates; if they're not voters, they shouldn't be donating.

And while we're making the amendment, we throw in a clause stating that no politician who has previously taken any money from any entity other than voters, directly, shall be eligible in the future for federal office.

If this president can't do an about face, he's doomed to be a one-termer.

Another Carter....

He's got to stop being a community organizer and be an honest-to-goodness president. But I'm not any more optimistic about that than I was about our last president ceasing to be a Texas rancher and start being an honest-to-goodness president.

Bullshit. The Republicans controlled everything.

That lie's been repeated often enough, you apparently actually believe it.

Yes, well, unfortunately the whole healthcare debate is not squarely centered on your personal happiness in regards to it. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, and right now the number of people in this country losing healthcare is quickly becoming that 'many' while the number of insured is likewise becoming the 'few'.

I'd rather my tax dollars go to something I benefit personally from than an endless quagmire (a.k.a. the War on Terror) that I didn't support from day 1.

The needs of the many outweigh only the needs of those freely making the choice to let their needs be outweighed. Otherwise, given how uncomfortable the notion of two men getting married makes "the many" feel, it would be a reasonable argument to say we should wait two generations to ask for any advance on that issue.

Besides the fact the the choice in your last statement is fallacious, any dollars spent on health care by the government before the budget is balanced won't be tax dollars, anyway -- they'll be dollars borrowed from foreigners, hocking our nation's future for a little present benefit. Until we balance the budget and pay off the deficit, we shouldn't be playing military games in other people's countries or spending money on health care.

The really insidious evil Bush wiggled into our consciousness is the feeling that we can just keep spending money we don't have. At some point, that will catch up to us. It will probably do so through inflation, which is another way of saying robbing the poor to keep the rest alive; it may do it through an inability of the government to borrow any more, because no one will lend, which is another way of saying (given what government dabbles in these days) punishing the poor to keep the rest happy; it could come through a repudiation of the national debt, switching to a new currency, and starting out clean, which would be... interesting, to say the least.

Could this be why there's a slow and steady Sarah Palin drum beat starting out there? Can you hear it? I can hear it.

Damien Thorn is a bad boy. A cool bad boy.

Pleazzzze!!!! If Palin is put on the 2012 ballot and gets elected, then the Mayans will be right and the world will end.

I do feel that republicans will take a big sweep in the mid-terms.

Actually yes, I do. Only problem is that it's not a lie. At least to me it isn't and nothing anyone can say will change my mind. ;)

Odd, because sodomy laws are still repealed, the Constitution didn't get amended to put one man + one woman = marriage into it, there's no new oil rigs going up in ANWR, Social Security hasn't been privatized....

just when were the Republicans in total control????

I generally stay out of political discussions on message boards since it usually turns into a pissing contest, but I am going to do a little venting if you don't mind. I know I will regret this but.........

Obama has pretty much been a complete disaster. What can you expect when you elect someone to the presidency who never ran so much as a small corner store in his life. This healthcare bill is about as unconstitutional as it gets and it is not going to be popular if it passes. It will continue to help bankrupt the country, not to mention how the senior citizens will unite to throw all the Dems and Obama out of office in 2010 and 2012 for doing this. Why this proposal is a surprise to anyone is beyond me, Obama was pretty clear when he was running that he wanted to push a system like this.

Now we are watching as our government is giving full constitutional rights to terrorists who killed 3,000 people in cold blood in the worst way possible? That garbage should be tried in military tribunals and should not be given the world stage to piss on us some more. They are not American citizens. They are terrorists and should be treated as such.

Also, Obama could have made serveral moves on gay rights within the first days of his administration and he did not. Case in point, Don't ask Don't Tell. Repealing this would not cost much if anything, and he has no possible excuse for failing to take action.

Obama is big on talk and small on action when it comes to gay rights. I assure you he is not planning on taking bold steps in 2010 with the midterm elections coming up and with swing districts already in perilous danger of seeing a party switch. He's going to keep throwing scraps out, and I will make a not so bold prediction that it will be the same old story again in 2012 with gay voters. The masses will be duped again.

Because they were to busy destroying the economy and bribing and lying and getting us into a sham of a war?
Sodomy laws? That's up to the courts.
Constitution amended "marriage"? Isn't that what they pushed and made Clinton sign? DOMA? And why bother with marriage when they can leave it up to the states? And aren't they hell bent on getting conservative judges just in case gay marriage is taken to the Supreme Court?
Social Security? The majority of Americans were against it.
ANWR? Maybe they have to deal with tough regulations?
Haven't they been signing away our civil liberties also?

Trust me, they've been busy enough and were in control. Isn't that why they're bitching now that they have been reduced to a minority?

Again with the delusion. Scurry off little one. Let the adults talk.

Bullshit. The Republicans controlled everything.

That's not true.

Not that truth has any meaning to you.

There was NOTHING any Democrat could have done.

That's not true either.

In fact it's monumentally wrong and highlights a major problem with Obama and his followers.

Fact is, Obama and Democrats have much more power at their disposal than Republicans had while Bush was POTUS. And in your thinking Republicans had total power and there was nothing Democrats could do to stop them. And yet, Obama and Democrats with their greater power have not repealed DADT and DOMA, they put through an expensive but ineffective economic stimulus, passed major giveaways to the financial services industry and have failed to regulate it properly, are not putting through a gold standard health care reform but are giving away the store to the drug and insurance industries, they're not giving New Orleans the help Obama promised during the campaign, etc, etc, etc.

They would have been demonized and called a traitor.

OMG!!! NO!!!

In other words, you realize that they didn't have total control, but you're not going to change your mind.

They're bitching now that they're a minority because the minority always bitches.

When you are done acting like a child and can have a mature conversation then I'll deal with you. As of now, all you are doing is attacking and name-calling which is what children do when they are losing. Thank you. ..|

Oh not losing. I'm just rapidly tiring of your ignorant, delusional shtick. ;)

I'll post it again...because I have to:

There is no right or left wing. Only one bird with broken wings. America needs some fixing up really badly.

I'm curious if any of the Hillary supporters on here from back in the primaries would think she would have been doing anything differently at this point.

There are several points of criticism being thrown around in this thread. I wonder if anyone could go into detail on what Obama could be doing to please you. I don't want vague answers. I want to know IN DETAIL how he is supposed to be fixing all of our problems. You can dish out and say he is failing and that he isn't doing enough, etc. etc. Well what do you know that everyone else doesn't? Apparently if he isn't doing enough or if he sucks that bad you guys obviously know the right way and the right steps to take to fix everything. So, lets open the floor. Map it out for us. If you have so much passion in saying he has failed us then you must have enough passion to know the exact details of what steps need to be taken to get things done.

I also wonder if anyone on here thinks Medicare, Social Security, Medicaid is a bad idea?

You know what I was doing ten months into the Bush administration? Standing at the corner of Chambers and West Broadway in Manhattan, crying while looking at all the weathered flyers taped to the bus shelter, taped up by loved ones looking for people that were never coming home.

And Obama has failed?

By the standards set for him by himself and the people that elected him, probably so.

But nice try bringing 9/11 into something to deflect attention. ;)
