On-Topic Obama pressed on failures at Univision forum

1. I will not be voting FOR anybody, but I will be voting AGAINST the man who has repaced Jimmy Carter as the worst president in American history.

I noticed that you erased from your quotation of my post every reference to what your candidate supports. Which is a return to the policies of GWB: war over diplomacy in the Middle East, a police state over constitutional rights, depression over prosperity, and hatred over tolerance. I presume you did that because he embarrasses you. That much, at least, I regard as a good sign.

"Take away my rights??" What a totally igorant statement. I have always had the same rights as any other American citizen and, Obama aside, nothing in the current crop of candidates places those rights in any danger.

Your candidate favors a constitutional amendment to eliminate the possibility that any gay person in America can ever marry. Your candidate wants to take away gay marriage even from those few who have been able to realize that dream in America. When you vote for a bigot, you are supporting bigotry.

1. Only a fool, or a foolish young man, would want to go through some sort of fake marriage ceremony with another man. Yo've been sold a bill of goods on that one, or perhaps you've simply drunk the Kool-Aid.2. It's always been possible to serve in the military if one is discreet.

Well Jack, that may be how you see the world, but it ain't how the homos who hang around here see it.

I can't even begin to imagine the pathological self-hatred that generates this twisted world view, but all I can say is thank god you are hopefully increasingly in the minority.

You either have to be simply trolling as a sock-puppet provocateur...or you have a very dark and unhealthy idea of what being a happy, healthy, out and proud homosexual in America is today.

You have my pity.

That happens to me sometimes! Quick Reply can be so tricky!

Actually, Jack, Obama's failure on immigration reform is due to the Republican Party that refuses to do anything about it. The DREAM Act should have been passed, but the Republicans obstructed it. Obama and the Democrats did everything they could to help Latinos in this country that have spent their whole lives (from infancy to adulthood) as American with the only misfortune of being born outside of it.

And let's not overlook the fact that the Obama administration has yet to pass a budget - something they are required to do every year. THey couldn't even do it when they controlled the house and senate.

And of course, there's the famous stimulus bill which turned out to be yet another pork barrel project and accomplished nothing, except of course, rewarding Obama's union buddies.

Hey, look what I found on the internet in less than 5 minutes!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_United_States_federal_budget

"The 2012 United States federal budget was passed on December 23rd, 2011"

There's one (or two) on every site. If you go on Towleroad, a queer-oriented news site, there's at least two guys that blame everything on "femme" gays, drag queens and women.

And the stimulus bill actually paid itself back already with increased revenues. 'Doh!

That's arguable. But merely the fact that it's an arguable proposition that it paid for itself means it wasn't a failure.

Of course, the fact that I can point to three businesses I know of here that were saved by the work the stimulus provided to turn our collections of crumbling concrete back into rideable roads means it wasn't a failure, too (so does the fact that local auto shops have already seen a decrease in the wear and tear on suspensions).

Wow. My pathetic little rights? Presumptuous much? Marriage - federally recognized marriage - has a life-altering importance for me. And a huge financial relevance to ANY serious couple. But I'm just astounded that there are still self-loathing faggots who hate the rest of us - who are happy with who we are and don't feel the need to be "discreet" (I am appalled to even see that word used here) - to the point where they would invent any justification to explain why they just. Don't. Want. Gays. To be treated. Equally.

Because if society accepts us as equals, their self-hatred will lose all meaning, and with it - the shame-driven bitterness they call their life.

How's THAT for saying it like it is?

No failures, huh?

Failed recovery

8.1% unemployment rate

Increased debt to over $16 Billion when he said he would reduce debt in half

Oh, I see...... President Obama didn't clean up the Bush / Cheney disaster fast enough.

Bill O'Reilly was complaining that the mess wasn't cleaned up 6 weeks after the President's inauguration.

Statistically, I suppose it's inevitable that there are some people for who eating shit actually makes their systems cleaner.

He said he could fix it. He lied. He failed.

BTW -- I did mean $16 Trillion

So you want to engage in a sham marriage? Why? Are you that insecure in your homosexuality and/or relationship? So insecure that you feel an overwhelming urge to adopt the heterosexual model and get married, thus acquiring a sort of societal 'seal of good housekeeping' approval on your relationship?

Bah, humbug. Stand up and be a man. Declare your independence. Show the world that you're not ashamed of being gay and don't have to hide behind a false facade of respectability.

I've known who I am and have been comfortable with it for a good many years, and I don't need anyone's approval. My partner of 17 years and I would never dream of doing anyting so unutterably silly as going through the sham of a marriage. What a crock of heifer dust.

Oh, wait a minute, you said something about financial advantage. If you knew anything at all about current tax law you would know better. Sometimes MFJ (married filing jointly) is advantageous, sometimes not. It depends on the circumstances. A great many couples file as married filing separately because that is more to their advantage.

Among other things, marriage can be an important social and legal mechanism to establish the definition of family. That you and your partner are comfortable “standing up being [unmarried] men,” is certainly your prerogative. But how does that afford you legitimate license to insult another individual who has expressed what is at least an equally valid perspective of the same matter?

Enjoy your façade of an independent world, but recognize that there may be those among us who may have the means to make more of a relationship than merely pretending it is a model. You should respect that – even if your personal experience doesn’t enable you to understand it.

Fine -- hide as second-class citizens if you will... in your ignorance.

It will only be "the heterosexual model" if people wimp out (like you) and don't demand liberty. Of course, knowledgeable people are aware it isn't "the" heterosexual model in the first place, it's only the one enshrined in federal law -- contrary to the religious freedom guarantees of the the First Amendment, I'll point out.

Oh, and financial advantages aren't just a matter of tax filing -- are you running for the bottom here, trying to get the "densest ignorance" award?

A marriage is only a "sham" of one or both of the people are marrying for reasons other than love, like money or a green card.

Marriage is not a "heterosexual model". Just because straights are doing it, doesn't make it exclusive to straight people. By that logic, since heteros engage in anal sex, then anal sex is strictly for heterosexuals only. The only reason non-gays had a monopoly on marriage is that gays weren't legally allowed to marry until recently. However, Native Americans had no compunction against gays (or "two spirits" as they called them) and were holding marriage ceremonies for them long before Columbus touched ground here.

As for "married filing separately", I professionally filed taxes for over 5 years, and 98% of time, it was more financially prudent to file jointly. The only time filing separately was appropriate was when one of the mates owed student loans or child support and didn't want the other mate's tax refund to claimed as payment (which occurred very rarely).
