Obviously I haven't seen the details, but from what I've heard, this is the best proposal I've heard from a Democrat so far. My main problem is the mandates that are placed on the insurance companies especially for those who have coverage already. But I do like his ideas for getting people covered who don't have it already. In a thread earlier today I mentioned mandating coverage just like auto liability insurance. I wonder if he read my post, haha.

I also have a problem with the President attacking people for their attacks on some of the plans. This is a new plan...he hadn't made any proposals before. So for him to say that his plan has been attacked is just not true since he didn't have a plan.

But overall, I'm curious to hear more details about the plan.

Re: Obama's Healthcare Speech

Oh my! Did Obama grow some balls?

Re: Obama's Healthcare Speech

Oh yeah, I think the balls are dropping. Not a free fall into the sack, but they are growing.

Now after this speech, let's see if they fall softly into the sack, or recede back up into ovaries.

So glad he is putting these false rumors to rest, and calling out the bullshit. About fucking time. ABOUT FUCKING TIME!

Rumors about what? He didn't have a plan until tonight...so by definition people couldn't have been attacking his plan. Now, people have been attacking some of the plans in Congress. And some of those criticisms are well founded. But regardless, the Democrats are going to have to negotiate since they don't have the votes.

The rumors of all the misinformation in any of the bills up in committee. Did you not watch tv or something in the last month?

He put all of them to rest, all those rumors that were angering Americans and making them not want reform, and laying out exactly what it will be.

And also saying he is no longer gonna take the republicans shit.

I'm still waiting on a plan.

Please explain to me again how you can put a cost on something without knowing what the "something" is.

Re: Obama's Healthcare Speech

He said they were going to call them out if they keep pulling the same shit basically, meaning by name was the underlying threat. So they can gamble who has the bigger bully pulpit as Senator or House member vs. the President.

Hopefully that's true. As long as their is action behind the words is the real question.

I did like the call for tort reform as well.

He can only call them out if he insists that the House starts over and replace 3200 with Obama's plan. Because if they stick with 3200 there are some things in there that Republicans have been right about.

Obama has no problem admitting republicans have good ideas. He singled out a good one by John McCain in his speech.

If they get rid of 3200 for Obama's plan. It will probably have more republican ideas then 3200. Of course, I don't know what 3200 is.

And he was talking about calling them out on the misinformation they are spreading in the media. He won't let it sit there and fester like he has.

Of course, this hasn't been tested yet. Let's see if it happens.

The only person who told the truth during the speech was Joe Wilson.

Pelosi's glare was best part of the speech.

Bravo to the brave Congressman who had the courage to tell the truth.

kind of a Jekyll and Hyde speech IMO

early on I thought he was very big tent and collaborative

then he got pretty vicious about republican stonewalling and prior administration fuckups

like he was trying to have it both ways

but u can't mr. president

seems like the public option is kaput - maybe not - but seems so

went on too long IMO - kind of a consistent prob with him i think - he does like to hear his own voice

the ted kennedy open this when i die thing was pretty fucking effective

thought he did a good job of laying it out in laymen's terms - what it means to someone who for example currently has employer provided insurance

where's the funding coming from?

jekyll and hyde

as for the republican response .............

how can u respond a few minutes after a speech? makes no sense to me

karl rove said on bill oreilly that obama's 46 million uninsured # includes an est 10 million illegal aliens

so obama is the source of "covering illegal aliens"

don't shoot the messenger :)

good thing hillary and nancy didn't sit together :) *

don't they talk before the event???

* both wore big red dresses

Not really. He is saying he still wants republican involvement, but if they want to continue spreading misinformation, he isn't going to stand by and let them anymore.

In the speech, and his plan, the public option is far from kaput, and he even laid out what the public option is going to be like.

Looks like the republicans have a pre-written speech that is probably edited as the presidents speech goes on. That's what it seems like to me.

Well since you don't know what 3200 is then you don't know that it is House Resolution 3200...the 1,000 page health care bill that has passed Committee in the House. It is THE health care bill. I have read it, but I have to assume that you haven't. How can you say that they're spreading misinformation if you haven't read what is really in there? I like to get my information from the actual source instead of just regurgitating talking points.

As usual, good speech. I'm delighted that he threatened to call the republicans out. It's about time.

I can't say I'm a real fan of his idea of requiring people buy insurance,as he said, like car insurance. What's to stop the insurance companies from jacking up the rates on people they consider high risk?Like maybe someone who had acne as an adolescent?

I also don't understand why we can use deficit spending to fund the wars, but not for healthcare..

Another thing that bothers me is he is STILL trying to find ''common ground'' w/republicans.He doesn't seem to get it.They hate him,and will oppose just about anything he proposes...

how come ALL of the congress and senate have deep dark tans? and look like they have had plastic surgery

don't they know it prevents them from smiling ;)

lol did you watch the entire thing? he addresses how is going to prevent insurance companies from jacking up rates. a big part of the speech was making sure insurance prices didn't keep going up in crazy numbers.

as for the republicans. sounds like he will accept real and honest input, if they have any. but if they don't, fuck em and let's move forward with reform. or atleast i hope that's what happens.

At least my misinformation helps to get shit passed and helping Americans. Unlike the republitards.

And no, I haven't found time to sit down with some coffee and a good 1000 page health care bill.

I did,all 27 minutes of it.I know because I was on a treadmill having heart palpitations..lol

I must have got stuck on the car insurance thing and how it seemed fucked up to require people to do business w/the same companies that are fucking everyone over in the first place.
 ABC said it was 45 minutes long.

If you force a company to be honest, they usually turn honest. But I do agree, doesn't seem fun.
