No, they don't -- it's part of the code under which they built the adjoining development. The city requires every developer to include a certain amount of green space, and it has to be completely open to the public 24/7.
It's like a situation here in Oregon: all the beaches were made public, except three stretches which were owned by NfP outfits. They own that beach, and they can set certain rules, but the public has to have access 24/7.
"certain rules" could include "no placards, no shouting, and no marching around in circles."
The Toronto protest might be interesting. As at the Toronto G-10 protest, I wonder how many cops will steal prosthetic legs this time?
I wonder how many coward cops will remove their badge numbers so they can beat people and kick them in the teeth with impunity, even with proof on video?
How many cops will kettle thousands in a single city block then jail them for not following orders to leave?
How many protesters will be jailed without charge for 13 hours or more without even pots to pee into in the cells, then laugh at them because they'd end up having to use the floor?
How many will ignore "detained" protesters needing insulin and other medications?
How many will quote a spurious "no trespassing" law, passed by the provincial government in secret, to herd them into overcrowded cells?
How many more will threaten to arrest protesters for blowing bubbles? Officer Bubbles even threated to sue YouTube when his assholery was exposed.
If the crowd gets idiotic, I hope the Toronto police do more than Vancouver's did during the Olympics.
And if some shit rat wants to get kicked in the teeth before he settles down, I think that's good policing to give the client what he wants.

This video clip serves a particular agenda, nevertheless worth viewing:

So, all you nay-sayers... protesters now being arrested for closing their bank accounts.
Still believe we live in a free society?
it read like 2 people walked into a bank to close their accounts and twenty other people walked in along with them... they were on private property, asked to leave, and refused.
doesn't really sound like police state actions to me.

It seems America does not like free speech very much - at least not when it's in the face of rich people and irresponsible companies.
Everywhere these OWS demonstrations pop up, local authorities have claimed all sorts of restrictions on what the OWS people are allowed to do.
In my own city, for example, they are not allowed to demonstrate overnight - only during daylight hours!![]()
This can't be said enough.
Well then you read propaganda spinning. They were there to close their accounts, all of them. The "law" used to arrest them was a "bank run." (Even if that law was used properly, how is it even LEGAL?)

According to the NY newspapers, they were arrested for trespassing after the manager of the bank asked them to leave and they refused. I'm not sure how I feel about the arrests but the group (numbers vary from 20 to 50) was clearly part of an organized event intended to cause a disruption at the bank. If they were intentionally causing a disruption of the bank's operation and were asked to leave then it doesn't matter if they are legitimate customers or not.
