No -- they should have tackled him and cuffed him.

Authority to enforce the law resides with the citizens. They/we don't surrender that authority when we assign police to take care of it. The protesters should learn to make citizen's arrests, and begin enforcing justice on the pigs.

And yes, I say pigs -- because if there'd been a real police officer in that bunch, he would have arrested the offending officer for assault.
 
By the way, if you haven't yet noticed...the students were on a grass-lined sidewalk of the campus quadrangle.

I understand that roadways need to be clear to accommodate emergency vehicles and routine business.

But apparently in this case riot-strength chemicals needed to be deployed to prevent...any unruly strolling on the lawn.

Good job fomenting opinion against the police, though. What cretins.

You know, over a 1,000 posts into this, one would think you'd finally have a basic understanding of the movement.

A super-majority of the Occupy movement are employed. For myself, I've had a career for a few years now, and am not "looking for work." Show a little more respect here.

That's a good piece. In a theoretical sense, it's an interesting clash being described. In real terms, it's millions, billions of human lives at stake.

As footage of cops pepper-spraying UC Davis students gets more views by the minute, a plan to smear OWS is uncovered. Clearly, these protests aren't over yet.

The staff obtained this memo:

”The proposal was written on the letterhead of the lobbying firm Clark Lytle Geduldig & Cranford and addressed to one of CLGC’s clients, the American Bankers Association. CLGC’s memo proposes that the ABA pay CLGC $850,000 to conduct “opposition research” on Occupy Wall Street in order to construct “negative narratives” about the protests and allied politicians. The memo also asserts that Democratic victories in 2012 would be detrimental for Wall Street and targets specific races in which it says Wall Street would benefit by electing Republicans instead.

According to the memo, if Democrats embrace OWS, “This would mean more than just short-term political discomfort for Wall Street. … It has the potential to have very long-lasting political, policy and financial impacts on the companies in the center of the bullseye.”

I think another or perhaps bigger issue is that

LEADERSHIP is failing

The days of strong leaders - regardless of party affiliation

Margaret Thatcher - Winston Churchill - JFK - Ronald Reagan
etc.

leaders who were willing to put themselves out there

seems like there's a big void there

One more reason the "corporations are not people!" amendment needs to pass.
 
That would be the political nightmare scenario. A joined TP and OWS. Demanding fair taxes, corporate responsibility and that politicians have no financial influence.

That might even work, if we could manage it, say, three elections in a row.
 
Something unimaginable happened. The police that pepper sprayed the protesters in Seattle last week has caused a miscarriage in one of the pregnant protesters. Not only did they use the pepper spray but they used their batons, hitting her in the stomach. She was yelling she was pregnant and they did it anyway. I hope she owns Seattle.

A woman who was pepper sprayed during during a raid on Occupy Seattle last week is blaming police after she miscarried Sunday.

Jennifer Fox, 19, told The Stranger that she had been with the Occupy protests since they started in Westlake Park. She said she was homeless and three months pregnant, but felt the need to join activists during their march last Tuesday.

"I was standing in the middle of the crowd when the police started moving in," Fox recalled. "I was screaming, 'I am pregnant, I am pregnant. Let me through. I am trying to get out.'"

She claimed that police hit her in the stomach twice before pepper spraying her. One officer struck her with his foot and another pushed his bicycle into her. It wasn't clear if either of those incidents were intentional.

Seriously, what is with all these heavy-handed police officers and their wanton behavior towards armless and presumably harmless protesters?
