.......Wonder why?? Gee, I WONDER who is going to win the acting categories......

Best Actress-Helen Mirren (duh)
Best Actor-Forest Whitaker (double duh)
Supporting Actress-Jennifer Hudson (yeah we already knew that)
Supporting Actor-Eddie Murphy (like, duh)

Was anyone bored by last night's SAG Awards acceptance speeches??? It's like they all were thinking "Yeah I already knew I was going to win....here we go again another speech I have to make....."

Though I wasn't a huge fan of Crash winning last year, hey at least it made the night interesting. I'm still going to watch the show (of course it's the Oscars) but I hate it when most of the winners are already locked up to win. The only award up in the air is Best Picture (again the Academy is known for being unpredictable in this category) so for me that'll only be thing to look forward to. Blah blah blah thanks for letting me rant LOL.

Re: There will be ZERO EXCITEMENT at this year's Oscars....

I agree. The 4 acting categories are really obvious this year.

Best Director will almost certainly be Scorsese.

However, at least Best Picture is still reasonably open...

Re: There will be ZERO EXCITEMENT at this year's Oscars....

Sigh, I only care about two of those categories. I just wish Dreamgirls would be up for Best Picture like it should be.

Re: There will be ZERO EXCITEMENT at this year's Oscars....

Oh yeah I forgot about Director! Yeah, Scorcese is finally going to win and it's going to be a huge deal. That'll probably be the main highlight of the show. Poor man, if he doesn't win......

Re: There will be ZERO EXCITEMENT at this year's Oscars....

I think it will be interesting actually. I agree with Best Actress, Forest may not win best actor though neither do i think eddie murphy will win for supporting. J.Hud will yeah.

I can see Djimon winning for supporting.

Re: There will be ZERO EXCITEMENT at this year's Oscars....

After seeing The Last King of Scotland theres no way Forest Whitaker won't win, he's amazing.

I agree 100% - no way are the voters going to follow the other awards like sheep - there will definitely be big surprises. Helen Mirren and Martin Scorsese are locks, but nothing else. I can see Leonardo DiCaprio and Djimon Hounsou winning, and I can even see Cate Blanchett being the voters' security blanket in the face of four unknowns in the supporting actress category. And I'm praying for Letters From Iwo Jima for Best Picture!..|

Re: There will be ZERO EXCITEMENT at this year's Oscars....

Remember a few years ago when Adrian Brody won for the Pianist and no one expected him to win. I don't think Forrest will win, I think Leonardo Dicaprio will win. He's grown up from his wild child days into a mature young man. He actually looks like a man and his acting roles are so much more mature. I also think Penelope Cruz could upset Helen Mirren. The Oscars don't like old broads for best actress that reward is usualy reserved for a young woman under 40. And who says Jennifer Hudson is a lock. What about the two women from Babel or Cate Blanchett? Blanchett is very popular with the Academy she could very well win.

Re: There will be ZERO EXCITEMENT at this year's Oscars....

While the films and the performances might be good, this year's Oscars offers little to no interest. The competitions have no heat and are as drab as the year's movies were. A dismal, horrid year of film, and instead of celebrating, they should be apologizing.

Hollywood is killing (has killed?) my love of going to the movies.

Re: There will be ZERO EXCITEMENT at this year's Oscars....

Hm...we're all so certain of opposite things - it sounds like it's going to be an exciting show!;)

Re: There will be ZERO EXCITEMENT at this year's Oscars....

Funny, this is the first year in ages I've found interest in these awards. For once they're finally recognizing talent instead of popular schlock.

Yeah, well.... We'll still watch. It's a good excuse to get together, eat
popcorn and pick apart all the fashions.

Joshua,

Yup, that's what my friend and I will be doing. We already have some brie and a nice port wine, and we'll drink any time someone says something political, thanks god, cries, and gets interrupted by music. We once thought about doing shots every time they showed Jack in the audience as though he's American royalty, but we figured we'd be too plastered by the end of the show to remember who won.

Re: There will be ZERO EXCITEMENT at this year's Oscars....

Guess i'm the only one rooting for Little Miss Sunshine for best pic....

Re: There will be ZERO EXCITEMENT at this year's Oscars....

The SAG awards have proven to be such a good predicter (though not perfect) of who will win the Oscars that they've taken a lot of the fun out of handicapping the races.

My only question this year is -- three black people out of four awards? Is it possible the (mostly white and old) Oscar voters will go along with that? If they do, terrific, but it also seems possible that their subliminal racism will rise to the surface.

Or, it could be that if they don't win, it might not actually be because of racism! In the last few years they've given Oscars to Denzel, Hallie, Jamie, Morgan, etc., and that's not counting the nominations...maybe they'll think that Blood Diamond combined with The Departed gives Leonardo the edge, esp. considering that, having given Philip Seymour Hoffman the Oscar last year, they won't want two fat non-stars in a row? Or would giving Peter O'Toole his Oscar after 8 nominations be racism? And maybe they'll think that Jennifer Hudson is a flash-in-the-pan and decide not to be herded but instead give it to someone they know is a great actress with a great career ahead of her, Cate Blanchett. And maybe they'll figure that yeah, Eddie Murphy can act in a non-comedy, and so what? Djimon Hounsou gave a much more Oscary performance, shouting and crying and fighting for his lost son, plus he's built a career in dramas since starring in Amistad and been nominated before, and his win would negate any racism charges, not that it's needed at this point. Alan Arkin has been an icon for actors for 40 years, and this would be a chance to honor him, for a movie the voters loved, Little Miss Sunshine. Mark Wahlberg gave a surprising, funny, powerful performance and is the only nominee in the likely picture / director winner, The Departed. Et cetera. I think we've reached the point where the Oscars don't have to give Oscars to this or that nominee or be accused of racism. As Bill Condon said about Dreamgirls' failure to crack best picture's five: the voters liked the other movies more.

Re: There will be ZERO EXCITEMENT at this year's Oscars....

Best actress will more than likely go to either Penelope Cruz or Kate Winslett.

The academy hasn't given that award to an over-40-year-old woman since Susan Sarandon in 1996. Every year, whether it be Sissy Spacek in 2002 or Felicity Huffman in 2006, a 40+ woman is touted as being the shoe in but it's pretty obvious that women over 40 and Oscar do not go hand in hand in the lead field.

Re: There will be ZERO EXCITEMENT at this year's Oscars....

Isn't it great that the awards are about one's age and who has never won and all those other considerations except talent?

Re: There will be ZERO EXCITEMENT at this year's Oscars....

Look for upsets in Best Actor...Peter O'Toole will knock out Forrest on this one. And I'm expecting Alan Arkin to walk off with Best Supporting Actor. No matter how predictable it all looks, Oscar always surprises. From Chaplin missing out on Best Director in 27/28 to Crash last year, nothing's a sure thing.

But if Helen Mirren misses out on Best Actress it will be the worst injustice on an actress since Cate Blanchett was robbed by Gwyneth Paltrow in 98! Just my opinion.

Re: There will be ZERO EXCITEMENT at this year's Oscars....

wouldn't that be fantastic if ryan gosling won for half nelson :-)
