Official 79th Annual Academy Awards (Oscars) Thread

Re: 79th Academy Awards: Predictions, Thoughts, Rants, Etc! -- Official Thread

I was so happy that Alan Arkin won for Little Miss Sunshine. There have been several surprises....More so than last year. The only big surprise was BBM losing best picture to Crash. There have been a ton of surprises this year.

I can't believe out of three nominations for best song that Dreamgirls didn't win, I guess they got tired of it winning.

Oscars

Bring back Jon Stewart, or Jerry Senfield, Ellen bombed, so not funny, and those mimes, what a boring show, 3 hours and 45 minutes of slow torture, remember when the Oscars were exciting? One of the best years for movies and the worst Academy Awards show! Thank God for Jennifer Hudson and the Dreamgirls medley, Eddie Murphy was robbed...

Re: 79th Academy Awards: Predictions, Thoughts, Rants, Etc! -- Official Thread

My predictions were sure wrong. Ellen did not rock, she was just okay. So, who's the host next year? Will Ferrell is a good idea, Bette Midler, Lily Tomlin, Ben Stiller.

I was very pleased that "The Departed" won. It was easily my favourite of the nominated films. But, the best win was "The Lives of Others" for best foreign-language film. You've got to see this one. It's the best film I've seen in a very long time.

Re: Oscars

I give Ellen a solid B. Pilobolus were easily the highlight of the show. Come on...the gun? That was fucking brilliant.

I couldn't agree more. What a bore.

Also, Children Of Men was totally overlooked for a best picture nomination (best movie I've seen in years). I think they just wanted to give Scourceze (I don't care to spell his name correctly) an award finally.

LAME

FOUR HOURS AND TWENTY MINUTES !!

*Excruciating*

As much as I love Ellen, she was not so great. Not bad by any means, just
nothing too memorable. (Then again, who would have thought a lesbian making a joke about finding rolling papers on the floor would ever be on the Oscars ?)

My shallow thoughts ? Loved Leo, hated Tobey's slicked hair, loved Helen's
dress, hated Celine's... ehh, that's enough.

Re: 79th Academy Awards: Predictions, Thoughts, Rants, Etc! -- Official Thread

I think Helen was the best dressed. She's pretty damned sexy for sixty. Cate looked great too. However Gael was the sexpot of the evening, hands down!

Re: Oscars

aah, i loved babel and LMS. too bad they didn't win as much

Yes, Babel was good, too. I could tell by the look on Rinko Kikuchi's face she knew she was robbed of Best Supporting Actress.

Re: 79th Academy Awards: Predictions, Thoughts, Rants, Etc! -- Official Thread

So, I typed out this whole, heartfelt thing, and my browser crashed before I posted. Fuck you, Camino.

So in short:

-Yay The Departed. I liked The Queen more, but really liked The Departed, and...

-Yay Marty. It's about damn time, and you deserved it.

-Yay lesbians. Ellen was quite good (not out of the park, but totally nice and enjoyable. love her). And Melissa E . . . nice.

- YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY Helen Mirren! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
nhelen11.jpg

Still waiting for my 'I'd Go Str8 for Helen' tshirt. And I would. *swoon*

- Why is Jack bald? I hope it's nothing serious.

- GOD if Nicole Kidman, Kate Winslet, and Gwen Paltrow didn't look absolutely perfect. For that matter, the crowd was, generally speaking, all around better dressed than any time in recently memory. Thank god JHud shed the metallic jacket-thingy before the ceremony.

- Yay Al Gore. He's totally going the way of Carter (x10), and I'm glad.

- I really appreciated the fact that the lifetime achv winner did his speach in Italian. Granted, I'm fluent in Italian [and his speech was so much more heartfelt in Itl than in Eng...], but it just added to the "real" vibe that permeated the evening.

- In closing . . . despite its length, I really believe that this was one of the best Oscar shows in recent memory. There was a lot of extra bells and whistles . . . montages, dance things, etc etc . . . but it all seemed so authentic and real.

Bravo :-)

I thought Portia De Rossi looked amazing.

Hottest lesbian ever!!!!!!

Celine also looked good in her red carpet dress, the one she sang in was nowhere near as amazing.

Re: Oscars

Don't hate on Jennifer Hudson for getting the award she deserved. Everyone has an opinion but your was not read in the envelope.

Re: Oscars

Beyonce wowed the hell out of me didnt know she could hang with the big dawgs that girl can sing.. Jennifer [congrats with the Oscar] did her thing also but Beyonce showed her ass. wow these ladies pure talent

Re: 79th Academy Awards: Predictions, Thoughts, Rants, Etc! -- Official Thread

Yeah, Portia looked pretty darn awesome . . . and quite in keeping with the triumphant lesbian vibe of the evening :) :)

Celine was a surprise and looking gorgeous, yes. I was truly shocked at how great so many people looked. Nothing crazy or garish . . . just pure, classic style. I'm still reeling about Nicole Kidman and GwenP especially.

Not a huge fan of Gwens dress. But Nicole looked amazing. Maybe better than when she won for hte hours. and she look great that night. something about the red dress and strawberry blond.

HAHAHAHA

I don't hate Jennifer Hudson. I just thought the other nominees had done a better job at acting in their roles. You have to remember that the Academy doesn't always reward good acting. They also try to sell DVDs and make political statements.

Re: 79th Academy Awards: Predictions, Thoughts, Rants, Etc! -- Official Thread

god YES, Elvin! I loved her in Gosford Park (for which she should've won). I watched the entire "Prime Suspect" series last summer, then Elizabeith I, Prime Suspect 6, and The Queen, last fall, and I was hooked.

She's so sensual and gorgeous, and such a fantastic actress . . . I'm so happy she won.

Now if only Charlotte Rampling could find her way into an Oscar-worthy role . . . I would positively spew thick, rich Anglophilic joy all over SoCal. :p
