Official 79th Annual Academy Awards (Oscars) Thread

Re: 79th Academy Awards: Predictions, Thoughts, Rants, Etc! -- Official Thread

Celine was a surprise and looking gorgeous, yes. I

Whaaa ?

In *that* dress ?? Puh-leeze, she could have just drizzled split pea soup
over herself and saved some money.

Ill-fitting and ill-advised.

<God, I'm SO gay> ;)

Re: Oscars

I'll agree with the original post that it was the most boring Awards Show EVER! You know back in the 90's the MTV awards for a while were the the MUST SEE awards shows far out doing the Oscars and Grammy's. The Oscars and Grammy's both took notice and started to do a lot more to inject fun performances and comedy into their shows. Unfortunatly as a new generation turned away from MTV the major award shows also follow suit. I'm not going to blame Ellen because she was simply presenting the material that was given to her. Unfortunatly she's not at the level where she can interject her own personality to an awards show when things aren't going well.

The real problem is that the Oscars still in my opinion doesn't know what it wants to be. Does it want to be a fun celebration of great performances? Does it want to be a solum tribute to the art of film making? Does it want to fall somewhere in between or to some degree? They don't know, therefore we have a boring show like we had tonight.

BTW Children of Men should have won the oscar for Film Editing. I can't belive they gave it to the editor from The Departed. While the Departed and The Queen were my two favorite films of the year, in no way did Departed have superior editing.

happy for scorsese
thought helen merrin and jennifer hudson didnt deserve to win, but saw it coming a mile away
the problem with this years academy awards was that everyone knew who was going to win everything. last year, there were so many good movies and performances that it was harder to tell
and for my cliche gay comment... underwhelmed by the fashion on the red carpet

As a German I am happy because Lives of the others won the Oscar. Thank you!
