Official 83rd Annual Academy Awards (Oscars) Thread

Re: Who's Watching the Oscars Tomorrow?

Definitely seemed possible. The look in his eyes were very ... lol. He kinda hung back and made these funny looks to the camera and a few comments here or there, but seemed to let Anne take the lead.

What I was intrigued with however, was that he found time to constantly update his Facebook page with companion footage of the Oscars as he hosted.

Gotta love multi-tasking

I didn't watch, but I saw all I needed to see...

Re: Who's Watching the Oscars Tomorrow?

I hate the Oscars. Everything else on Sunday is taking a break this week. -.-

Re: Official 83rd Annual Academy Awards Nomination Thread

I would watch it but someone in my office already sent around the list of winners... so, no point.

I'll just youtube the highlights later in the week.

Re: Official 83rd Annual Academy Awards Nomination Thread

My picks:

Best Picture: The King's Speech
Best Director: David Fincher - The Social Network

Best Actress: Natalie Portman
Best Actor: Colin Firth
Best Supp. Actress: Melissa Leo
Best Supp. Actor: Christian Bale

Best Cinematography: True Grit
Best Visual Effects: Inception

Wow!! Except for Director and maybe the other two (I didn't watch the show), you were right on!! Good judgement!! I hope you made bets with people.:=D:

Re: Official 83rd Annual Academy Awards Nomination Thread

OMG that show was so awful. James Franco acted like he was high and completely out of it. Poor Anne had to carry the show and was trying too hard. The people who choose the host should NEVER pick someone who isn't a comedian or at least somewhat funny. Billy Crystal presenting>>>the show. I love that Colin Firth, Natalie Portman and Christian Bale won. And kudos to the guy from the King's Speech thanking his boyfriend and not his partner when the film won. But its sad that Christopher Nolan has yet to be recognized for the talent he is :(.

Re: Who's Watching the Oscars Tomorrow?

Okay, I watched it all. I adore Franco, but have to say he appeared a little stoned or something - distant and thrown to say the least. Such a shame. It could have been down to poor production standards - I could not help but notice how crappy the lighting and camera work was. Also, Hathaway seemed to have to rely upon girlishness rather than witty and current cut and thrust.

It was fantastic to see Portman get her Oscar and to see The King's Speech do so well, and of course, Alice in Wonderland!

In Honor of the Academy Awards..

In honor of the Academy Awards, what was your favorite movie of the last year (or last couple years) that stared a GLBT person as the main character?

Also, what was you favorite movie that had a GLBT person as a supporting character?

Re: Official 83rd Annual Academy Awards Nomination Thread

I didn't watch the whole thing - just the opening - and even that I found awkward with the exception of the montage of Best Picture nominees set to "In the Hall of the Mountain King". Very good.

Love the winners - thought they were all excellent and deserving though I do hope that Amy Adams, Annette Bening and Helena Bonham Carter win one soon!

Re: In Honor of the Academy Awards..

There is an interesting discussion on Afterelton about why there is a renaissance of gay characters on TV recently and why there isn't in the movies. I think the same thing is true with the number of out gays who are in leading roles -- Hollywood is very business-minded and the feeling is that gays either in portrayal or as actors will bring in a lot of money.

Re: Official 83rd Annual Academy Awards Nomination Thread

I for one, am glad that The King's Speech won best movie of the year. I thought it was well deserved and probably the best picture win in a long time.

What do you guys think?

Re: Official 83rd Annual Academy Awards Nomination Thread

I hear it was formulaic. One laugh here and another tear there. The story has been confected from scraps of fact.

But I also hear it has REAL actors in it, not like those flim-flam Hollywood pretty boys who don't know how to speak.
