Re: Oscars Predictions

I hate that biopics tend to win acting awards. Especially in the modern area, it's so easy for a half-decent actor to pull off a straight mimic by watching existing material and interviews and pulling it off.

Admittedly I haven't seen Redmayne or Cumberbatch in their roles yet. I have no doubt they were excellent, but Michael Keaton was truly sublime in Birdman. I think it is that much more difficult to have to flesh out a character which doesn't exist and to give it life. I'd be thrilled if Keaton managed to sneak a win, but my guess following the SAGs is that it will be Redmayne.

Oscar Sales Boost for Best Original Song Winners: Here's What It Looks Like

Winning an Academy Award is a good thing for many reasons. It means your peers appreciate and respect you. It means more career opportunities. It means you get a shiny gold statue to put on your mantelpiece.

And on the business side, it also means more money. But while Oscar-nominated movies typically enjoy a massive box office boost, that's less true for Oscar-nominated songs.

Oscars 2015: Predicting the Song Category

A year ago, the biggest contemporary stars on the Oscar telecast were two of the original song nominees, "Let it Go" and "Happy." This year, you'd be hard-pressed to find one person who could hum two of the nominated melodies.

While the songs nominated for the 87th annual Academy Awards are less familiar – we might never see the cultural saturation of last year's tunes – they play equally important roles in their films.

Oddsmakers in London have Common and John Legend's "Glory" out front as an even money favorite and it's not surprising considering how it has timing and cultural momentousness on its side.

Here's a look at the nominees, marketing of the tracks and the betting odds at London gambling sites where laying a few pounds on the Oscars is legal. The awards will be handed out Feb. 22.

I agree. It will be a close race for Best Actor. I hope Eddie Redmayne wins. Even though I like Michael Keaton as an actor, Birdman was kind of a strange movie.

Academy Awards, who's watching?

Who is going to sit for 4 hours to catch the winners?

We just record so that we can watch it without all the boring speeches and commercial breaks. Condenses down to about 22 minutes.

Re: Academy Awards, who's watching?

I'm sure I'll hear the main results on the radio news whilst driving to work in the morning. That'll be more than enough.

Re: Academy Awards, who's watching?

I'll check it in the morning - pretty sure no one bothers to show it here.

Re: Academy Awards, who's watching?

I'll have it on in the background while i'm jubbing or over on tumblr.

It's on some SKY channel.

Re: Academy Awards, who's watching?

Atlantic I guess then - I only have the basic selection of channels as I dl most shows I watch and put them on the TV.

Re: Academy Awards, who's watching?

I think the last time I watched them was back in the early 80s. No interest in them since then.

Re: Academy Awards, who's watching?

Me do. It's the biggest celebrity cattle prod on the planet.

Re: Academy Awards, who's watching?

Watching it but not staring at it for 4 hours---background noise unless it grabs my attention.

Re: Academy Awards, who's watching?

Given I'm bed ridden with gout I'm planning on having it on in the background.

Gout is incredibly classy. Queen Anne suffered from it. I approve of your excellent breeding.

Re: Academy Awards, who's watching?

I happened to have the red carpet part on because I was watching the ABC World News at 6:30 PM. I just switched over to 60 Minutes a few moments ago. They are showing "The Best of Bob Simon's Stories."

I'll read about the winners in tomorrow's newspaper.....
