Official 89th Annual Academy Awards (2017 Oscars) Thread

Re: The Oscars

This wins the award for the most-quickly-obsolete post of the year here, haha...you just had to wait for a couple hours. ..

Yes. I was only watching the schmoozefest with one eye while I was doing the housework.

But a friend came round and offered me something I couldn't refuse. :)

..What did Whoopie win a Grammy for?
Can Whooopie sing?

Re: The Oscars

0:30 Emma Stone OMG
1:24 Meryl Streep's face :rotflmao:

Re: The Oscars

Do you mean Soviet animation?

I was thinking of one of my favorite directors, Andrei Tarkovsky. But if you have any suggestions about Soviet era animation, I'm all ears.

Re: The Oscars

I got that from an article. Sorry if it is wrong. What did Whoopie win a Grammy for?

It was a comedy album.

The distinction between Whoopie's EGOT and Viola's is tha Viola's were all for acting (no grammy for her though...I don't think.) So Viola is the first black woman/actress to receive those 3 awards. Whoopie's Tony was for being a producer, her Grammy was the comedy album, her Oscar was for her supporting actress role in Ghost, and emmy for talk show host.

You've seen Sister Act? I'll let you make the call...

Thanks.

Re: The Oscars

i haven't seen it yet, is it as good as people say or is it standing on the merits of having so little competition in the way of gay/black film? kinda like how blair witch was a piece of trash but all the other horror movies at the time were an even bigger piece of trash so it won simply by being the least smell steaming pile of shit.

Good Lord, Yes! It's probably better than people are saying, unless they're also gay Black men, as am I. Of course, Chiron's from a different era than me, but still...haven't you read the reviews or it???
And keep in mind, it is the FIRST All-Black film to win Best Picture. Quite a milestone. It doesn't need comparison to anything. Go see it and stop reading about it.

Re: The Oscars

I haven't seen LaLa Land but most of my friends who did---and who know films---say they don't know what all the fuss is about.

As if. The year has been a slow one for any breakouts. Just like in pop music, the industry gets behind a few to try to fan the coals. Although I'm a big Gosling fan, I actually dread seeing him play a song and dance role, regardless of his Mouseketeer DNA.

I predict this movie will sink beneath the waves of obscurity at a surprising rate. It's too California-centric.

Re: The Oscars

So we watched it last evening and generally I thought it was a pretty good showing...and I think that the La La Land group were incredibly generous in their handling of the fuck-up by Price Waterhouse.

Re: The Oscars

no wonder... if #1 favorite got most hated, 2nd, 3rd still has a chance.

Re: The Oscars

I wonder if they're trying to ignore the fact that one of the 60's sexiest studs is now obviously senile.

warren-beatty.jpg

The 'he's old' comments on here are about what I expected, but the stupidity factor is higher than usual. Age = senility. I guess that makes Stephen Hawking a dumb, old person.

It's sad when people aren't even smart enough to use their smartphones to watch the entire Beatty/Dunaway segment which would allow them to reach an intelligent conclusion. No wonder they need a smart phone: it compensate for their inherent dumbass-ness.

Re: The Oscars

...Stephen Hawking...

But Hawking is 4 years younger than Beatty.

But surely an experienced man like you would know that the Oscar people are in constant touch with the senior actors to find out about their health so they can bring them out on stage before they die.

Re: The Oscars

Oh yes, how could I have missed that?? THAT'S the reason Shirley MacLaine was there, too.
Oh wait, I just remembered why I forgot: I'm...senile.
