Oh Canada, Please Take Over This Barbaric Nation They Call The USA

Hardly homage mon cher.

The queen isn't even our head of state. The Governor General is.

No, the Governor General is not the head of state. The reigning monarch is head of state. The governor general is the monarch's representative. The governor general is also the commander-in-chief of the armed forces.

You are right though that we do not pay homage to the monarch.

With all of my mother's health issues and my genetic predisposition to many health issues and the hell we've been through with our country's bullshit healthcare system, Canada isn't looking too bad.

I would gladly move there if the opportunity ever arose. I visited the Canadian side of Niagara Falls once and it was lovely. Such nice people and it just seemed...I don't know...cleaner...than the US.

It is no longer the USA. Obama is turning it into the USSA (United Socialist Slums of America)
Ha! The day America moves toward anything resembling socialism is the day I'm declared the Queen of England. The average American would first have to understand what Socialism is. Canada is considerably more socialist and, as metta posted, apparently there are more Americans moving up here to enjoy it.

Awesome! We're attracting the educated ones! :D

Not only are more Americans moving north but fewer Canadians are moving south to the US according to the article.

Please enlighten me...which policy exactly of Obama's has been Socialist? Do you even know what Socialism is? We already have had socialism in the US all 8 years of George W., it was called corporate welfare. Oh, and the loudest voice against "Socialism" turned out to be one of the biggest welfare queens out there, check it out:
http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/michelle_bachman_welfare_queen_20091221/

So, yeah, all these scaremongering is getting old...socialism, you're right!

This report was published two years ago and only just under 11,000 mainly well off leftward oriented Americans actually did so after the 2004 election.Dramatic overstatement by the OP,who I generally respect but cannot agree with his position on this issue.

Canada is fine,I have no problems with our neighbors to the north but each nation is different.America is much more complex and vast.....20 million or so in a comparable geographic area over 300 million here in the US.Good or bad it's going to be more complex and contentious here,we're like two most dissimilar brothers....we rebelled from the British Empire and the Canadians just kind of graduated from it.If we're going to move forward as a nation it will be in a uniquely American way.We don't need to mimic Canada or Europe but follow our own path....independent and always exploring, never content to stay in a comfort zone for very long.

I love Canada, and Canadians. My sister has lived there for almost 40 years.

But I'd never want this country (USA) to be exactly like Canada.

In many ways, we are superior. In others, not.

But the US will always be singularly unique. That's what I want...

For all you people who move your lips when you read...

Canada does not have the worst environmental record.

Frankly, Canadians love to come down and help clean up the huge mess you've made of the place since 1776, but it just seems like too much trouble.

No, but Canada does have "Club the Baby Seal" day and the oil sands in Alberta and a Cabinet who arrogantly can give two shits about our environment. I'm pretty sure even India didn't wanna sit with Canada in the lunch room at Copenhagen.

And just so you know, you can look to your left and see my Location: Toronto.

Well, if we took over the USA and inducted it into our political system...

Given that the people who currently vote for amendments that curtail gay rights would still exist, and that many other people that would drive the political process to the right of the political spectrum would continue to live in the nation, things would not change at all, other than adding to the population.

When was the last time you checked your stats. . . or a map?

When was the last time you checked your history books?

No, but Canada does have "Club the Baby Seal" day

Keep reading. Keep those lips moving.

Canada does not allow clubbing of baby seals. Not for a number of years. Got it?

and the oil sands in Alberta

Oh, and brainiac, Canada is not the only country with oils sands. Oh. And who burns all that oil? Canada? Nope. Look to the gas guzzling inefficient neighbours to the south who are addicted to it because the petroleum industry made damned sure that no other alternative energy source was used in cars and invented the rv as a vehicle of choice to get around fuel consumpton standards by classifying them as trucks.

There are American discoveries and industries that make your life better than it otherwise would be if this country never expanded from the beaches of the East Coast.

And there are plenty of Canadian discoveries which you take for granted every day, and a few that some people can't live without:

The Zipper
Pablum
Anti-Gravity suit
Hydrofoil
Electric light bulb (Edison bought the patent from Canadian Henry Woodward. Bet you didn't know that.)
Pacemaker
Standard Time
Paint roller
The Macintosh apple
Insulin
Electron Microscope
Java
Retractable beer case handles

(Just to name a few.)

And it isn't about the technology.

What we're talking about here is the essence of human rights and social responsibility.

Which Canada has demonstrated by enabling health care for every person and gay marriage for those who wish to marry.

Who wouldn't want that?

Oh and Blackberry.
