Oh Good! GOP Won't Support Obama Econ Plan

Well, it seems Miss Nancy wants to save money by preventing poor people from procreating. Seems she recognizes that poor babies cost us all too much money. So she wants to spend hundreds of millions for government birth control, under the guise of economic stimulus. Surely sterilization can't be far behind!

This is an expansion of Medicaid family-planning services, which Republicans have shamefully spent the past several years diminishing.

Maybe Pelosi shouldn't have included it in this economic stimulus package because it'll give Republicans who are disingenuous something to wail about rather than addressing important economic elements of the bill, but it's an expansion of services that benefits lower-income people, our health care system and government budget bottom line. It's the right thing to do. And it's one of the reasons having Republicans out of power will be a relief to our nation.

I guess no one ever considered that this plan might not be a GOOD thing. And I guess no one considered there's a shitload of unneeded items built into this 'plan'...like funding for statues? WTF? Yeah, that's gonna help the economy.

I don't know which statues you're talking about but an economic recovery package should be as broad-based as possible. Money for the arts is another good way to infuse cash into the economy, and I'm glad to see the National Endowment for the Arts is included in the package. The more money that'll go to actually making something through the pockets of people who'll spend it rather than save it is helpful.

Also I think we need to move away from the notion that everybody should go to college. IMO, for example, it'd be good if some of this money went to arts organizations for internships and apprenticeships so creative people can learn on the job. Classrooms are fine but it's possible to learn some things by working (not "just" studying) with people who are doing it in a professional environment.

Had the pugs even had the balls to suggest providing contraceptives for the "poor", they'd have been castigated as racists. But Miss Nancy thinks it's a good idea, that the poor not reproduce as they'd be a burden on the states, and nary a word is said. Hypocrisy at it's best!

Maybe she'd support killing off some of the poor as well!

Actually no.

Some of the most innocuous uses for money still means that money will be injected into an economy that has seen a tightening in cash.

FDR did it to much criticism when he doesn't to rebuild something called the interstate.

This is pure fantasy since it would be out of character for Republicans to suggest providing contraceptives for anybody.

Are opponents of Pelosi and the stimulus bill really going to go down this road? Although I don't see what agenda you'd hope to advance with it, it's hard to imagine how it'll help any agenda.

This is Medicaid family planning services, one of the few entitlement programs that isn't plagued by opportunists and is beneficial to all.

Oh man.

I really hope you're not referring to the Interstate Highway System. Not only did FDR not rebuild it, he didn't build it. The Interstate Highway didn't exist in FDR's time.

FDR was long dead when President Eisenhower championed the Interstate Highway System.

Is our children learning?

He can't force you rightwingers to unite.

Repeating the absurd lie that I'm a rightwinger only further diminishes you.

The responsibility for that rests with you guys, because of your refusal, than it does with him.

The responsibility is Obama's. Just as it was Bush's in 2000 and he failed. The President, the leader, the candidate who pledges to bring the nation together is responsible for taking substantive steps to achieve that.

All he can do is hold a hand out---and listen as you complain because he's holding it out to the likes of Rick Warren, who is also an American.

If that's all Obama can do then that's paltry indeed.

lmao I just read some of the things included in this, and it just...wow, and people are ok with it?

Money for a MOB museum in Vegas? Re-sodding the national mall? $10 billion for scientific research and research facilities already funded by the federal government?
These aren't exactly giving America "results." So much for CHANGE in Washington. It's still the same ol B.S.
What's even more sad is regardless of what he says, this shit would've happened with McCain. It's only ok when it's things HE wants to spend everyone's money on.

If the government really wants to help, perhaps they should start by cutting their own pay & benefits in half. I don't see how they deserve the amount of money the taxpayers are paying them to do whatever it is we sent the to congress to do.

The irony of the GOP trying to stall the economy's recovery is that Presidents are more powerful in tough economic times. So Boehner and McCain are only strengthening the President's hand and because they can now easily be put in the same "I want America to fail" box as Rush Limbaugh, the GOP is just digging itself's a deeper hole. I am already working on an internet ad to that effect.

This kind of rhetoric, which continues the 8 years of BushRepublican rhetoric, is destructive.

And yet clearly, as we see here and elsewhere, it's going to continue despite what was promised from the Hope and Change crowd.

When the crowd in power doesn't allow dissent and disagreement without labeling it in destructive ways like they "want America to fail," we are weakened from inside. Like greed and vanity and dishonesty and dishonorableness, it's another vice our culture has made cool. And it's destroying the United States.

Not to mention that it's extremely unlikely that Obama gets policy advice from this board.

Good, the Republican pussy party is finally growing a pair. When Obama's lax security policies lead us to another terrorist attack, the midterm elections of 2010 will leave you guys in tears.

The Republican party should reject this bailout, or any other bailout. We are allready 11 trillion dollars in debt, when does it stop?

Are you guys seriously supporting this bailout, just because Obama wants it? It's funny, but I thought everyone hated it when Bush proposed the bailout. Now Obama's is great?

As a libertarian I find Bush's Bailout and Obama's to both be equally wrong.

Let's say the U.S. gets hit on July 4 -- which president do we blame it on?

Ever heard of "sleeper cells"? Al Qaeda, under cover of idiots who have been getting caught, could easily have infiltrated ten more sets of teams like those who carried out 9/11, during the Bush years. They could be sitting here waiting. There may even be some from the Clinton years, sitting quietly, pretending to be Americans and laughing at all our security efforts.

As porous as our borders are, there could be a nuke in Denver, one in Dallas, another in St. Louis. They could be sitting in storage somewhere, waiting for something like the President's favorite team to be in the Super Bowl, or some other chance to get some real emotional impact. There could be nukes in old, unused sewer systems, or abandoned mining tunnels near rail lines, or rusting unused industrial sites, or any number of places where radiation isn't so easy to detect, especially when no one's looking.

What better for a terrorist organization than to wait until we have a new President, and then, after years of waiting, strike at a moment designed to make him look unprepared and ineffective.

Obama could use some economic stimulus money to build a wall along our southern border and man it with volunteers in guard towers, put a couple of armored and a couple more reconnaissance brigades along the Canadian border, triple the size of the Coast Guard (not a bad idea anyway), and monitor the entire border with drones 24/7 -- and still not stop a major terrorist attack, because odds are that the next teams are already here.

And since we're talking economic stimulus, building that wall and massively increasing the size of the Coast Guard aren't bad ideas.

The question is: if Obama added those, would the GOP support it?

Ehh...they're just throwing a tantrum. The key to this stimulus is that it's temporary, and that permanent tax cuts don't have a place in it.
