Well, I suppose you all were aware, as US citizens, that biblical fundamentalism, like WASPism, has always been a fundamental part of the US: the difference is its manifestation and rise as an explicit, effective, very active political lobby.
As far as I know, US citizens have always had faith in a Christian God in their mouths more as an inspiration, a vague guiding principle like those we all need to lead our lives: but now those people really seem to want making politics follow the rules of the Pentateuch, and after Reagan´s foreign policy, why not?
But that would be the biggest threat to the US since the Great Depression (and I am aware there has been a WWII and a 9/11 after that).

What is frightening is the strict puritan way of religion. Catholics may be as hypocrite as any evangelist preacher, but they take religion far less seriously (I mean aggressively) than a puritan. I guess it´s because the latter can make appeal to a strong political power, the US government, that their strict morals could paradoxically ruin, while the Catholic faith doesn´t have any really strong, far-reaching political authority behind it anywhere in the world.

oh my god. after reading previous comments, i still didnt think there was anything behind that link that would genuinely frighten me, but i was wrong. that was terrifying. i doubt this will lead to anything, though, and i hope i'm right. otherwise, no nation in the world is scaring me more than my own. this is why we need to work on our public education. ignorance leads to things like this.
