Again, this isn't even a common practice in Orthodox Judaism. I'm not seeing a reason for it.

There is no "need" for any religious practice of any kind. Your question could just as easily be applied to Communion or a church marriage. No one would die tomorrow if any of them were abandoned or outlawed.

And if communion or a church marriage involved exposing a random child to herpes, I would oppose communions or church marriages too.

Pedophilia is sexual desire for children. Insisting that absolutely anything that involves any form of contact of any kind, regardless of complete lack of sexual intent, as pedophilia is the worst kind of witch hunt mentality that does little to protect children and instead seeks to persecute people regardless of guilt out of an irrational overreaction to real child molestation.

This ritual is a glorified, outdated, ritualized version of "kissing a boo boo." Insisting it's sexual assault on children is massive overreaching.

It can be if there's no medical reason for it. There have been plenty of cases where doctors have inserted their finger up a male child's rectum to supposedly check for prostate cancer when there's no valid evidence for it. And yes, those doctors are pedophiles.
