According to Google it's "American black English regarded as a language in its own right rather than as a dialect of standard English".

Re: Italy circumcision kills toddler, with one man charged

So North American white men, Muslim men and Jewish white men are circumcised?

Okay. Thanks.

Not all of them.

Religious cutting is quite common in practicing jewish and muslim families, but among white North Americans it's not ubiquitous anymore. In 1975, 95% of boys born in the USA were cut. In 2015 it was down to 55%. Older men will tell you it's because of latino immigrants (who are indeed intact) but not a single US state is 45% latino.

Re: Italy circumcision kills toddler, with one man charged

Sorry, I am a gay Chinese guy and I have always find Caucasian/white men are very attractive/handsome.

But then I notice that most/all white men are circumcised...they have "mushroom" penis. And I kind of feel sorry for them.

Sorry. I don't know. Maybe it's the Western cultures??? I mean, I look at all these porn sites like "Sean Cody" and "Corbin Fisher" , and I'm thinking, "These white men are so good looking and handsome and perfect like Greek Gods"....until I see their circumcised penis.... and I feel sorry for them for having a "mutilated" penis because their foreskin is forcefully taken away from them when they were babies.

And I'm thinking that I may never be as hot/handsome as a white guy or white guys will never find me attractive. Or why does Asian girls prefer white guys over Asian guys?

But hey, at least I got something better than those hot white guys. My penis is intact. I have my foreskin. I don't have a mutilated mushroom penis. My right of having my foreskin is not forcefully taken away from me when I was a baby.

Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. I'm not trying to be racist or offend any people. I apologise if I offend any people especially white men.

Aren't you the one who didn't know they should be washing under their foreskin though and ended up seeing the doctor about repeated infections?

But as one of those who was circ'd at birth, I would have preferred the option of making my own choice

There are a lot of gay men who have body image issues. There is a lot of pressure to attain unrealistic bodies which is why eating disorders and stimulant use is a problem in the gay community. One unfortunate side effect of the number of altered images on the internet is that gay men are under pressure to have a certain look, a certain amount of body fat and penises that look a certain way.

Terms like "uncut/cut" or "intact/mutilated" are offensive and they imply that men's penises are somehow unattractive if they don't adhere to an unrealistic ideal of what a penis should look like. There's enough pressure on gay men around unrealistic expectations about their bodies. This use of insulting terms toward other men's penises is part of a larger problem and it contributes to body image issues that gay men struggle against.

Penises come in all shapes and sizes and variations. There's a lot of us think they all look just fine.

This forum has shown a lot of patience over the years with your obsessions about your own body. You should be aware of body images and how these terms might impact men who have their own body image issues that they battle.

Re: Italy circumcision kills toddler, with one man charged

I don't really believe in childhood circumcisions. Genital mutilation unless there is an immediate medical reason for the procedure. Not that cut cocks aren't beautiful, but that should be a choice for an adult. Just my humble opinion.

And most people on the planet agree with you. And not just white people either ;)

Terms like intact and mutilated are simply accurate. A circumcised penis is one that has been mutilated, an uncircumcised penis is one that has been allowed to remain intact. And yes, according to Mother Nature, that IS what a penis should look like. Deal with it.

Those who don't have an issue might use adult words, like 'modified'. Personally, I don't like piercings or tattoos but why would I feel the need to insult others by saying that they are mutilated? There is indeed a good rational argument to be used againt the practice of infant circumcision, but your condescending rhetoric does not advance the cause.

The term "Female Genital Mutilation" is generally accepted. I've never heard it called "Female Genital Modification".

I would think that the prepuce and the labia minora might be opposites and I have read of accounts of the labia minora being modified when women are not comfortable with the symmetry or size. Female genital mutilation includes the labia, the clitoral hood and the clitoris. The intention of this is to prevent females from enjoying any sexual activity.

Neither is correct. The correct term for what is done to some women in third-world countries is "infibulation". It is in no way equivalent to circumcision.

The revision procedure is called a labioplasty or in marketing materials, you'll see "vaginal rejuvenation". In some cases it is done for purely cosmetic reasons. More often, it's done after childbirth to undo some of after-effects of vaginal delivery.

Female genital mutilation includes the labia, the clitoral hood and the clitoris. The intention of this is to prevent females from enjoying any sexual activity.
Infibulation is done in those countries because virginity is a marketable commodity in some societies where a young woman's worth is in her marriageability and her ability to produce children. In particular, the removal of the labia and the stitching together of the vaginal opening is done to prevent intercourse in girls before marriage.

Unfortunately, once a woman is married, it makes intercourse painful and often normal intercourse damages the vulva.

It also increases the chance of cystocele and rectocele during pregnancy which is why many of these countries also have a need for gynecological reconstruction surgeons. It also increases the chances of the woman's death in childbirth, as well as posing a risk the newborn. This is the reason why there's a concerted effort to stop the practice- it can kill both the woman and her child during pregnancy.

Please don't give the muslim extreme right and the western extreme left any ideas. They may soon insist on the latter term and claim the former term is racist.

Which is a type of female genital mutilation, so we'll keep using that term, thank you.

And circumcision is a type of male genital mutilation. I am sorry, but if you cut a body with the intent of leaving a scar, you are mutilating it. And if you cut something off, you are amputating. Circumcision is the amputation of the foreskin. Period.

Don't equate the practice with religion. It's something that dates back in African cultures for 3,000 years. If anything, having priests and imams speak out against clitoridectomy and infibulation might be the only means to stop it. Making it illegal hasn't stopped it, thus far.

I'm not sure at what point it became okay for anyone to use these terms to refer to other people's genitals. If you're using these terms without giving any thought the the fact that there's a person attached to those genitals, you've got bigger issues.

I'm not sure at what point the term FGM came into use either, but it's commonly and internationally used and you're really trying to shut the stable door after the horse has bolted by suggesting that it's not acceptable.

This WHO article is interesting. Amongst other things it says that infibulation is only one of four types of FGM.

I was surprised that Wikipedia also used the term. Just like with male circumcision, there's a large group of activists who are vocal.

The difference, and probably why WHO is so involved, is that the childbirth and post-partum complications . There's a hospital in Africa that now specializes in repairing the anterior-posterior repair surgeries on women who have infibulations. Many of these women have pretty horrible complications that lead to them being ostracized from their societies, so the repair surgery becomes key to the women having normal lives again.

The term "female circumcision" seems to have been a colonial British confusion about what was happening with these procedures. In many of these societies, men are not allowed to see women unclothed, so I suspect it wasn't until women physicians actually mapped out what was happening that this wasn't a removal of the clitoral hood; the women were having pretty radical procedures done that significantly altered their anatomy.

Methinks I give more thought to these poor people than those who are content with just letting it happen to someone else's son or daughter with perfect indifference.
