Re: Circumcision Protects Men from AIDS

...Except just as many studies have shown that the decrease has been insignificant or within the single digits and others have shown no descrease.

I think it logically makes sense, but based on the survey of studies we were given, the findings are in no way uniform.

Re: Circumcision Protects Men from AIDS

I think they should focus on how to develop a cure for AIDS. This studies does not really protects men from AIDS, there are a lot of arrogant people out there already, else we would not have this problem.

Re: Circumcision Protects Men from AIDS

Dr. Kevin de Cock????

Seriously?

Re: Circumcision Protects Men from AIDS

yeah cus u know they'll get all of those guys to lop of a part of their dicks and not have sex for a month to protect against aids when the fuckers won't even put on a fucking condom...

Re: Circumcision Protects Men from AIDS

Circumcision protects men from AIDS, puts women at risk

LONDON, MAR 7: Circumcision may reduce men’s chances of contracting HIV....

See that's the problem that little word 'may'....
Only start circumcising when the sentence reads: Circumcision reduces the chances.... or something like that.
May has to be left out. I always say Maybees don't fly in March......

Re: Circumcision Protects Men from AIDS

As a scientist (immunologist to be more precise), I find such studies to be so dangerous. For argument's sake, let us assume that circumcision does indeed reduce the risk of female to male transmission in the order of 60% (it is logical to assume that it does up to a certain point, the circumcised glans having more keratin is less prone to microlesions). Fine, great, yippee. AIDS is not the only deadly STD out there. HBV, HCV are not exactly a cup of tea to have (HCV has no vaccine and no real effective treatment). And what about the women? What about uncircumcised men? What about other STDs? Other diseases? There are many more questions completely ignored by this research and the conclusions can be misinterpreted by the public.
I really wish studies such as this were never done and the funds diverted towards research for REAL treatments of HIV/AIDS.
Just my 2 cents (and nothing against Michael Luc )

Re: Circumcision Protects Men from AIDS

If there was a medical study saying that shaving your pubes would decrease AIDs by X percent, there would be many on here that would object to it, and want to wait for some magic chemical product to protect them.

Re: Circumcision Protects Men from AIDS

this has more to do with the fact that the US government instead of sending money for safe sex ed and condoms decided that it would be better for people in Africa to practice abstinence and gave to money to churches to spread the joy of not having sex

does circumcision reduce the risk it probably does and it is probably significant but safe sex will always be better than unprotected sex at reducing the risk ..|

Re: Circumcision Protects Men from AIDS

There is a reason why ALL men are born with foreskin.

Re: Circumcision Protects Men from AIDS

LOL, now, now AJ, there is no mention of the US government or Churches in the article.
The dateline is London and the conference in Switzerland , both of which are anti circ countries.

Re: Circumcision Protects Men from AIDS

Gee, this is a rather civilized thread so far.

BTW, I like ferins line about decapitation preventing brain cancer.

Re: Circumcision Protects Men from AIDS

um ok these studies are being performed in Africa... and like it or not were dealing with people who don't have the best hygiene.... so being uncircumsized and not properly cleaning it also INCREASES the risk of infection....

So while it may be suitable for the purposes of reducing the risk in that portion of the world it doesn't nessicarily mean it would have the same impact on this portion of the world....

I personally am offended by this study.... to say that natural men are worse off than those who get mutilated at birth....

Re: Circumcision Protects Men from AIDS

Circumcision should be mandatory.

Re: Circumcision Protects Men from AIDS

Circumcision should be mandatory.

No.

Male circumcision is as much barbaric as female circumcision and should NEVER be mandatory. It ought to be performed for medical reasons only (diseases such as [para]phimosis). There is no absolute medical indication for routine circumcision of the newborn. There's even a higher risk of some diseases in circumcised men. Granted, a circumcision may prevent the growth of bacteria under the foreskin, but the development of such is also due to the lack of hygiene. And you cannot tell me you'd cut off your fingers, just because they are dirty.

Oh, and if you think a circumcision would provide a measure of protection against STDs, you are an idiot. Use a fucking condom.

Re: Circumcision Protects Men from AIDS

Get real! The only true "protection" or "cure" is respect for one's partner. If a little "snip" could stop AIDS, that "snip" would be mandated by now!

Re: Circumcision Protects Men from AIDS

I wouldn't allow a circumcision to be performed on me (or my partner) if world peace would depend on it.

Re: Circumcision Protects Men from AIDS

Well if this is true, the US must be the last place in the list of anual HIV infections by country, since it's the country were circumcision is pretty common...

guess what?: is not.

As Michael Luc transcribed it "according to preliminary data" and "reduce men’s chances of contracting HIV by up to 60%" half is 50% (point out that were talking about only 2 possibilities: contract HIV or don't), about 10% difference is not much advantage after all...

I'll give them the benefit of doubt, but right now i'm skeptical since this is not the first time (by far) a similar theory is suggested.
