not that a "regular" circumcision is much better. they are usually done without anesthetic as well ..

here is a scientific paper about it:

Infant male circumcision continues despite growing questions about its medical justification. As usually performed without analgesia or anaesthetic, circumcision is observably painful. It is likely that genital cutting has physical, sexual and psychological consequences too. Some studies link involuntary male circumcision with a range of negative emotions and even post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Some circumcised men have described their current feelings in the language of violation, torture, mutilation and sexual assault. In view of the acute as well as long-term risks from circumcision and the legal liabilities that might arise, it is timely for health professionals and scientists to re-examine the evidence on this issue and participate in the debate about the advisability of this surgical procedure on unconsenting minors.

Circumcision in San Francisco

According to yesterday's New York Times, the group seeking to ban the circumcision of male children in San Francisco will be on the ballot next November. If the ballot passes, then circumncision would be prohibited among males under the age of 18. The Times reports:
"The practice would become a misdemenaor offense punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 or up to one year in jail." Religious circumcisions are exempted.

Hence civil rights of parents and doctors are compromised. They have the right of having circumcisions for their new borns and adolescents or not. This law overrides the freedom of parental decision and oversight. This is a dangerous step toward facism.

Circumcision is genital mutilation, and should not be performed on anyone under the age of 18 without a valid medical reason. I hope this goes through.

Note: "It's easier to clean" is not a valid medical reason.

Isn't California on the verge of bankruptcy? Instead, they have some old christian who misses his foreskin and resents his parents.

There should be laws about having stupid, useless laws that have no bearing on real life.

Ideally I'm more in favor of letting the kid to make the decision himself when he's 18.

If they do make it illegal to circumsize your baby I believe it'll do more harm than good however.

More babys will suffer from trauma or severed nerve endings. I'd rather see it done by a doctor.

have a big enough "sandbox" here in the golden state for these Vaudeville

Send the to Arizona or Texas where they will at least serve a useful purpose

Next areas of concern for legislation are purported to be length and color,
(in California blond/blonde mandatory for residents) Tattoos...size, number
and subject matter to be approved by a board, and most importantly the
resolution of which came first, the chicken or the egg.

Melodramatic? Because I want a choice on my own body? It wasn't my parents right to do what they did nor is it your right to tell me to "grow up" just because I don't like the fact that I'm circumcised.

It's my body, it should be my choice. I didn't get one, I'm happy that there's a chance the next kid will.
