I do think there is something bizarrely and inappropriately intimate about this practice, but I agree it is not pedophilia. I can tell the difference between the kisses I used to get from grandma when I was 3, and the way people make out at nightclubs.

Yes, this ritual is bizarre, outdated, and as evidenced by the story-- unhygienic/unsafe. But there is no reason to believe that these priests have been performing sexual fellatio on baby boys in a public ceremony for thousands of years and no one noticed or cared or complained. It's a ritual. Circumcision itself in the Jewish tradition is a ritual.

When we hear that priests did this to babies while babysitting them or with no one around and it isn't part of any ritual, you'll have a leg to stand on.

There's plenty here to discuss as far as legitimate reasons to tamp down, outmode or ban the practice, not the least of which being public safety/transmission of disease, without making up that every single ritual in all of human history involving newborns was sexual assault.

I didn't say anywhere in either of my previous responses that it was a practice that i thought appropriate. What I said was it wasn't Pedophilia. Nowhere in the article nor any research on the act itself does sexual interest play a part.

I don't sound like any Catholic school girl I ever went to school with. And there's absolutely no suggestion the rite has anything sexual about it. Not everything on earth is about sex.

Does the Jewish religion circumsize females? If not, it's a bit difficult to say males are being targetted, of course they're targeted, they're the ones having the ritual performed on them.

I hope parents never kiss a boo-boo a baby gets on its rearside or a sensitive area --- according to Kahaih, they're molesting their children, even if they do it in front of a whole room of onlookers.

Correct. Doctors also felt up every part of my body and once I was even swab tested for an infection when I was 15 or so--- I suppose now the doctor raped me and forcibly sounded me.

The practice should be banned. If the ultra-orthodox don't like it, let them move to Israel, where the welfare benefits are probably comparable.
