Re: Why do we think its a good idea to circumcise men in this country??? United States BTW

^If one is capable of personal hygiene, i have no worries about your scaremongering.

Thank you for confirming that in America it is more a social issue, not to mention those extra few bucks for said procedure..

For post 4.

Re: Why do we think its a good idea to circumcise men in this country??? United States BTW

Actually, studies show that uncircumcised males are more likely to get a std, especially HIV. The skin of the head and inner foreskin are much thinner in uncircumcised males and microscopic scratches and tears provide an opening for the virus. Circumcision has been advocated for a partial solution to the HIV problem in Africa. Wikipedia has a summary of the studies under Circumcision and HIV.
But it should be said that in the US the continuance of the practise is in large part esthetic. Fathers who grew up with themselves and their friends being circumcised tend to think it looks better etc, and are inclined to accept the belief that it is healthier.

Show me yours, and I will show you mine....those studies that suggest circumcision reduces the risk of contracting a sexually transmitted infection are treated with some contempt by many physicians for such an idea encourages unhealthy sexual practices.

Condom use every time one engages in penetration...active, or passive is an obligatory safer sex recommendation by the medical community worldwide....no exceptions because one has been circumcised....an illusionary diversion from reality.

Re: Why do we think its a good idea to circumcise men in this country??? United States BTW

Just curious as to what the medical history is behind this practice in the United States. Boys over in Europe and Asia sure aren't "cut".

I had a "circumcision related injury" today. I went on a long 5 mile run, forgot my compression briefs. I usually wear boxer shorts, except when I exercise, to prevent chafing.

Well, to use an old racist Native American medicine man metaphor: "Sharpened tip on the spear inflicts much pain". Now I'm not fully cut, and grateful for what foreskin I do have. IE it goes about 2/3rds down the head, maybe 7/8ths if its really cold. Still enough to leave the tip exposed, ie if the doctors hadn't mutilated my cock 30 years ago, I wouldn't be posting this nonsense.

And yet I was circumcised many, many moon ago...... And I never wear compression briefs, or even basic briefs. I have no foreskin and have never suffered any incidents such as you imply. Removal of the foreskin does not mutilate the cock, nor is it the cause of any supposed discomfort that you have described. As to whether there is any medical benefit or not...... I don't rightly know, there seems to be evidence for both sides of that argument.....

In other words quit yer whining and bitching over a psychosomatic situation (translation of the big word - its all in your mind)

It should be all too obvious that if there is no immediate need for a surgery (that's what it is) then you don't do it.

In other words, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Modern day circumcision :

Circumcision did not become a common medical procedure in the Anglophone world until the late 19th century.[72] At that time, British and American doctors began recommending it primarily as a deterrent to masturbation.[72][73] Prior to the 20th century, masturbation was believed to be the cause of a wide range of physical and mental illnesses including epilepsy, paralysis, impotence, gonorrhea, tuberculosis, feeblemindedness, and insanity.[74][75] In 1855, motivated in part by an interest in promoting circumcision to reduce masturbation, English physician Jonathan Hutchinson published his findings that Jews had a lower prevalence of certain venereal diseases.[76] While pursuing a successful career as a general practitioner, Hutchinson went on to advocate circumcision for health reasons for the next fifty years,... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circumcision#Modern_times

In America and Great Britain the practice caught on to keep boys from being boys. The doctors doing this should have asked themselves why they had none of the problems that they claimed masturbation caused, in as much as we know that they jerked off as well.

When Normal Health Care (national health care) took effect in major industrialized nations the procedure went away as a "standard" thing to do, it was not cost effective and served no purpose, however in the "dollar wins" for profit US it continues as it makes money and insurances pay for it. The procedure is starting to be less prominent as people are becoming more informed. The "like father, like son" aspect of it has kept it going as well.

At one time I favored circumcision as I think it looks good, but I came to realize that it is only because of what I saw as the norm. that I felt this way, IMO, leave the baby's penis alone.

Circumcise for medical reason is ok.
For religious reasons should be challenged.

Thats right, any sort of intrusive procedure that changes part of the body for non-medical reasons should be not be done. So lets ban piercing, tattooing and putting those discs in your ear lobes right away!

No, let's let parents tattoo their babies and chisel their teeth instead.

Who cares they look better cut, still to see if they taste better.

Re: Why do we think its a good idea to circumcise men in this country??? United States BTW

American women are tell each other that uncut men are gross

Some do it because the boys father was

some do it because it's mostly standard practice.

I'm just here to watch the shitshow go down....and I know exactly what happens when the circumcision debate comes up. It's going to be a battle royale between butthurt intactivists and butthurt religious people.

Re: Why do we think its a good idea to circumcise men in this country??? United States BTW

That hook sure does look mighty tasty.

Fry it up, and I'll be on board.

By the way, not butthurt. I'm circumcised, mutilated, scarred for live without my precious 'Muhrican foreskin. Don't like it, it's long and it's black and it needs to be sucked.

Re: Why do we think its a good idea to circumcise men in this country??? United States BTW

We do not routinely [STRIKE]mutilate[/STRIKE] circumcise baby boys in the UK, unless it is a medical necessity.

I have seen some horrific circumcision scars, totally uncalled for, IMO.

This myth of being far more healthy and clean, is just that, a myth.....

It does seem to mainly be rooted in religion
Catholics tend to cut their boy children. And of course Jews always do. Muslims, well it seems to be 50/50 in my experience ;)
If you look back in history I guess it would originally have been for hygiene reasons - a cut cock is easier to clean when there are reduced amounts of water available. There may also have been an element of trying to prevent masturbation
I am firmly of the belief that no boy should be cut unless it is for medical reasons. Aesthetic and religious reasons are not justification for wholesale mutilation

Re: Why do we think its a good idea to circumcise men in this country??? United States BTW

Omg how dare my parents mutilate my penis.

I don't think I can live anymore knowing I will never experience the feeling of having an uncut cock.

Is it possible to sue them for irreversible psychological trauma?

No, they do not.

Re: Why do we think its a good idea to circumcise men in this country??? United States BTW

I have no opinion on the issue because I can understand both sides of the issue and don't think one or the other is the "correct" answer.

I am happy with my penis...it is cut...don't have ANY desire to change that.

I don't have a problem with uncut...or if you want to go from one to the other.

I don't have a problem with some babies being circumsized and others not. I don't think it should be legislated one way or the other.
