Olberman Meltdown

If I ever hear someone on the right make an outrageous hate filled emotional rant like that you can be assured that I will be pissed and will make it a point to bring it up for discussion. At this point I haven't heard it.

I'm curious to your response to the following:

Scott Brown Engaged In Culture Wars As Mass Pol

Years before he became a state senator -- and many years before he became a fast-rising Republican candidate for United States Senate -- Scott Brown found himself embroiled in a minor controversy when he said that the idea of two women having a child is "just not normal."

--snip--

It also wasn't enough to convince Brown that it was better to simply not touch lightening rod political issues. In the course of his career, Brown has earned more than a few headlines for playing a conservative role in the ongoing cultural wars. Brown was one of only three members of the heavily Democratic State Senate to vote against a repeal of a state law that barred out-of-state gay couples from marrying in Massachusetts. Later, he would vote for a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage - for which he earned the endorsement of the group The Coalition for Marriage -- and he opposed the repeal of the federal Defense of Marriage Act.

Do you think after reading this that you will agree that Brown is homophobic?

Sorry it's not a video.

He slams homophobes and homophobia regularly which is nice, unlike any conservative pundit I have ever heard of. ..|

Jock - it's always good to look at more than one issue.

He actually gets science, unlike his top 'conservative' pundit competitors.

There -- that's two.

Here's Rush's Top Ten racist comments, as decreed by NewsOne:

Some Glenn Beck classics:

And some Coulter Classics:

All those from Rush are reprehensible.

#s 6 and 7 from Beck aren't that big a deal -- in 6, he's just being honest; in 7, he's just giving a fairly common point of view.

Coulter's thing about liberals depends on how one defines the term. If you mean by it what she does, she's right.
Of course, I could define "chocolate milk shake" as "a drink made of coal scrapings, excrement, and enough ice cream and artificial flavorings to hide the taste", and then declare "Chocolate milkshakes are toxic!", and be about as relevant to reality.

GIVE ME A BREAK! Obama sits in Rev Do-Wrights church for ten years and listens to his hate speach and Olberman says judge the man by his character and refuses to discuss or investigate it. Brown doesn't condemn some loudmouths ranting about a curling iron and he's a CHAUVINIST? Olberman is a BIG BABY and a POOR LOSER! everything's ok when his ULTRA- LIBERAL friends are winning he's ok. as soon as they start to lose he becomes sensative, get used to it Olberman and friends Obama's on his way to a one term Presidentency! :p

I love how you've just chastised Olberman for one of his special comments/rants(as some say) and then have the balls to Rant that he is a "BABY" and a "POOR LOSER". Are you not doing the exact same thing you are chastising him for doing?
I think we ALL NEED A BREAK from this hypocrisy. :-)

Quite.

Olberman does some fantastically excellent stuff. I have yet to hear Limbaugh do anything that rates so high, but he has one occasion done some excellent stuff. Of course I stopped listening to him much when it became evident that he's a scientific moron.

But they have to be evaluated objectively. Yes, Olberman does some astoundingly biased rants, but even then he usually has facts to string them on.

The average republican is a homophobic racist. So that Scott Brown is one shouldn't have been so shocking to Olbermann.

Keith Olbermann is an over-acting, whiny douchebag. I've felt this way ever since he gave his on-air "plea for gay marriage". Ge's a massive embarrassment to anyone he supports.

No, the average Republican politician is. The average Republican is still a small-government, fiscal responsibility type.

But the ReligioPublicans have the clout, and the troops, to get their way much of the time, so any candidate who doesn't meet with their approval has a long uphill battle.

Word.

And as always, I am astonished that people are defending a man who would gladly take away every right they possess and deserve.

Just in case you mean me in that, I defend Limbaugh.

When he's worth defending, which is occasionally.

Sometimes.

Now and then.

On occasion.

Except he isn't. As usual (and in line with his counterparts in O'Reilly, Beck, and Limbaugh), Olbermann was talking completely out of his ass.

I don't often post in this forum, but this is the second time I've seen this guy in the same week....

I like him!

This was the first time....

:=D:

He reminds me in his manner of speech of that guy in 'Good Night and Good Luck'.

And by the way, you don't have to take what these guys say, both right and left, absolutely literally.

Although having said that, the left tends to be a bit more on the mark than the right. :p

Thank you for this post. I missed it.
I want to thank andysayshi for his post also. It's a shame it takes people from other countries to understand what is being said in this country. Thank the internet too for bringing us all closer.

Olbermann just plays to his small group of watchers . . . . a group that shrinks all the time.

Chickenguy, that video is awesome. As a Christian, I have to say that Olberman is quite spot on. Robertson is so smug and self-satisfied in his self-declared righteousness that he far more spurs people to hell than attracts them to his Savior. He deals far more in superstition than in faith, and does not know the God of the Bible in the least. His God is a miserably tiny, petty deity with nothing of grace or mercy about Him, only favoritism.

And I would love to confront Robertson in public and tell him so, with abundant citations from the Bible to make my point.

There seems to be an element of truth to your statement. In terms of general comparison, I'm not sure to what extent Olbermann is representative of cable news programming. There are certainly alternative programs on MSNBC and other channels that may compete with his program for the same viewers. Either way, my google search revealed a fairly recent trend line.
