So wrote one of my top 5 favourite writers, Garbiel Garcia Marquez in 'Love in the Time of Cholera'.

And after weeks of winter weather avoiding a tumble, I have fallen really hard today on ice covered by dry snow.

And omg it hurts. Luckily, I avoided breaking my wrist again (FOOSH) and put most of the fall on my right hip and leg....but 30 years ago, a fall on ice triggered deep vein thrombosis and Pulmonary embolii...this one appears to have resulted in more injury to my stress fracture in the left foot.

Have you managed (for those in the cold climate) to avoid a bad fall this year so far?

Will you come and empty my bedpan while I am reclining in traction and recovering?

I’m taking out a life insurance policy on you.

We’ve barely had a winter here. A little sleet this morning, supposed to be 65F tomorrow.

Do be careful! There has been no ice in my area this year, so I am lucky not to have that problem. When I do have ice, I attempt to avoid it, or "walk like a penguin".

It was definitely a fall and broken hip that hastened my grandmother's and my father's end, so I try to be careful because osteoporosis is a genetic thing with us.

Today, except where my left hand was cut up by the ice and snow, it doesn't hurt as much as I thought it might, so on to the next disaster.

Took me some time to remember when I fell last,
several years ago hurrying down the stairs at the Amsterdam central station.
I had gotten my first varifocals and was not yet used to it.

I fell like a cat 🐈 no harm just dirty hands & knees.

I fall a couple of times a year... generally because I am not cautious on slippery surfaces. I still try to move like I am in my 30's. Climbing up the ramp on my utility trailer in the wrong shoes is the main problem.
My wife falls far more often due to her stroke, cervical injury and c.p.

The effects have been catching up with me over the last few days. The bruising now shows and my back is definitely not happy.

There was a recent winter where everything was like a skating rink.

We bought a few pairs of the those slip on traction cleats that fit over my boots or sneakers.

They really help.

And yes. I have taken a few nasty falls and ended up badly bruised knees and elbows.

I really do need to start thinking about this.

I have avoided any bad falls so for. But I have fell twice in the past month. I usually goes years without a fall. This year I have slipped on the ice but caught my balance and remained standing.

My first fall, I was going up the stairs in my house and on the last stair I stubbed my toe against the last stair and then fell forward on the carpet.

Then a couple weeks later I dropped my water bottle while getting into the car after dark. I heard it slow roll under the car and because of the slope I assumed it rolled to the curb. I went around to the other side and squated down but could not see it. I started to stand up and forgot the curb side was on a slope. I lost my balance and fell backwards onto the grass. I wasn't hurt but split my favorite (well broken-in worn thin jeans) in the knee, crotch, and back pocket corner. I'ma gonna miss those jeans. I might make them cut-offs and use them for lawn mowing.
