lol this is synchronicity in a way. There was a talkshow on TV this morning and the subject was 'Hell' and different people gave what they thought hell was like. A psychologist said it doesn't exist, and said it is a dangerous belief, a Muslin guy said that in Islam there is hell but it is not forever like the Christian one, and the sickest frightening person in my opinion was this girl who looked like the typical Christian 'butter wouldn't melt' girl--plain, pallid, straggly hair, dull clothes, a bit like a Karen Carpenter type--remember The Carpenters? And she said that ONLY through jesus do you get to heaven, and if you dont accept Jesus, then God in his loving grace has created hell and once there there is no escape EVER. She was quite adamant about this. The host asked her what about loved ones that went to hell, wouldn't that through make her heaven into a hell. No, she said, because her love for Jesus is much stronger than her love for friends and family etc.

So Mickey, let me ask you---since you have brought this subject up so synchronistically. Do you believe the same as this girl?

Matthew 10:28 says clearly that the body and soul are both destroyed in Hell. It could not be more plain.

According to Mikey's religion, the kinds of people who go to Hell are people you'd just as soon see there anyway. We're talking about people whose entire modus operandi through life is fucking over other people and taking advantage of them, and they go to the grave believing they are some seriously hot shit after their lives had left a wake of broken hearts and shattered dreams.

We're talking about Bernie Madoffs who 1) did not get caught and 2) were, unlike Madoff, completely unrepentant throughout their lives and in fact consider themselves to be the pinnacle of human evolution and hold those who try to pursue a more honest mode of existence with contempt. We are not talking about nice people, here.

When we are talking about Catholic Hell, we are talking about people who have deified greed and iniquity. We are talking about people who are literally a total waste of everyone else's time and energy. We are talking about people whom it is not even worthwhile to try to understand because they are truly complete and total vermin. You are not going to lose any sleep over the idea of God deciding that they are not worth saving.

There is no reason for you to be forgiving toward a person who sincerely believes that you are a complete idiot to act with a modicum of decency toward your fellow man, takes pleasure in fucking up other people's lives, and generally has delusions of godhood. It's bad enough to deal with those people during life. If there is an afterlife where we don't have to look at them, sounds good to me.

On the other hand, according to the doctrines of Mikey's own church, even you are going to go through purgatory, see the error of your ways, and be exonerated for your sins and mistakes during life. When you think about it, it's really a very relaxing belief system. If you look back on something you feel guilty over and there is nothing you can do to make amends for it, no need to worry! God will just boil you in oil in purgatory for a while, so just get on with your life. Yay! No matter what, unless you have made up your mind that you don't want to be a worthwhile human being at all, God will somehow straighten you out. If you have the slightest aspiration to behave with compassion and decency toward your fellow man, God will somehow teach you to be like the saints. Mikey's god is really pretty good at things like that. It's the whole purpose behind Purgatory.

So yeah, he doesn't have a problem making light of it. He can have a sense of humor about it. He most likely doesn't even mind much that you and I think his beliefs are rubbish. As far as he is concerned, there is no need spend too much time arguing with us. If he gets fed up with the conversation, he can let the boiling pots of Purgatory do the talking. There is no need for him to lose any sleep over it, EVER.

Of course, not even all Catholics are the same in their view of the doctrine, so we have to be careful with generalizations, of course.

I always encourage looking into the origin of these myths, right to their roots. This is best way of seeing through them. I believe the very term 'Hell' is in part got from the Nordic Goddess 'Hel'

That girl is sick. The fact that she would choose a celestial dictator who is a brutal tyrant that tortures people in a death camp rather then her own family speaks to the level of her brainwashing. It is no different then anyone in a fringe political party who chooses a dictator over their own family.

However as for the Muslim guy what he said is only partially true. In Islam Hell is forever for disbelievers. Hell is temporary for Muslims depending on their sins.

Yeah, that's a good retort for those people who seem to think that anyone who disagrees with their politics or doesn't think in the way they do are going to make up the entire population of Hell, and they think people who act and think the way they do, and like the things they like, and hate the things they hate are going to make up the whole population of Heaven. I call it "spiritual egotism."

So the best response to that mindset is to say, "the more you talk, the more attractive Hell is sounding."

Now how are we going to seriously look a this this though. believe me there are some evil shits I scream at eg 'i hope there IS a hell and you go there you evil bastard!!' lol I think of people like Tony Blair who has contributed to so much suffering; child serial killers; Mengele etc etc. So you wonder what the hell happens when they pass on.

Now, what kind of evidence do we have? Well take NDEs, near death experiences. Some people claim to find themselves in this place of profound love--all accepting. They go on and on how they cannot empathize enough just how much deep love there is felt there and they dont often want to leave

but there are also hellish experiences. And sometimes experiencers of these states may carry on the belief in hevan and hell and tell people' there really is a hell'

Actually you can experience the same in psychedelic experiences. They can be incredibly blissful, and also hellish. here is an example of a trip on magic mushrooms I had that had both blissful experience that turned into hellish experience. I will just mention the latter

The music changed to an eeerie track (was from the album Oxygene) of bird sounds singing backwards etc. my visions turned into a whirlpool of bodies all entangled like you would see in those awful film of the Nazi death camps. And their eyes were staring, and I was being sucked into this horror.

Now it is hard to explain psychedelic vision to people not experienced. And to imagine it in normal state of consciousness. In psychedelic vision you are IMMERSED in it--it is all around and in you. So this experience utterly freaked me out

Ecstasy isn't always joy and light. There are deep dark experiences. But what the patriarchal belef systems do is coopt these natural states and tweak them towards social control.

I think someone who has done very evil things will have to face what they have done. In NDE reports there is often the life review and this is where the experiencer feels even the most slightest nuance they may have done that hurt someone and FEEL it from theother's perspective also. So say you have bullied someone--you are both the bully and the bullied. This deep sense of empathy can also be experienced in psychedelic states too

So if you have been responsible for the deaths of thousands I should imagine facing this will be very difficult

Just read an article somewhere out there that cells in the hypothalamus can survive oxygen deprivation by making a protective protein - just discovered or isolated - that puts its cells into suspended animation. They hope to develop the technique to improve survival rates for stroke patients.

I've heard about things like that. Now, I had this idea of setting up a system that would rapidly release just such a protein, throughout the brain, in the event of life-threatening anoxia, thereby putting us effectively in suspended animation. Rather than dying in the event of a cardiac arrest, our brains would automatically go into hibernation and so remain until normal functioning can be restored.

The life you are living right now is the only one you are 100 percent guaranteed to be able to experience. The existence of the afterlife is an unsubstantiated belief, widely varied amongst a vast number of people, all who claim the same degree of certainty. Do you really want to sacrifice this existence, put yourself through "hell" now, in favor of an afterlife that, by all logical reasoning, doesn't actually exist?
