OMG, a true horror story in a religious book !!!

that looks as boring as the picture gallery of Mormon prophets (grim old faced suits)

I will be looking into these, and in the meantime, read the passages with the mind set of "Salvation History" through out the Bible, and also FYI, my God is not a canaanite god, as he is God who is timeless. The Canaanites had their own gods, and as the jewish people rebelled against God, they took on these gods just to be on the safe side, etc.

Your god is the Canaanite god Yahweh. Anthropologists and historians have shown that Yahweh was originally a war god of the Canaanite pantheon and one of the 70 sons of El Elyon the chief God of the pantheon. It is known that Hebrew monotheism was derived from Hebrew and earlier Canaanite polytheism. They did not take these God's from the Canaanites to be on the "safe" side the Canaanite's were long gone by the time the Hebrews were around and the Hebrews had these Gods because they always had them. The idea that they were monotheists who took on these god's and became polytheists is false. Any historian and anthropologist will tell you that originally they were polytheists and merged the gods El Elyon and Yahweh Sabeoth into one god and and gradually went from polytheism, to monolatrist polytheism to monotheism. Also no ammount of "Salvation History" nonsense can excuse your god ordering and commanding and outright committing these atrocities. If a human did these things you know as well as I that they would be charged with war crimes. Also just to show proof that your god Yahweh came from the polytheistic Canaanite religion these sources proove just that.

If you walked up to a historian and said that Yahweh was originally a monotheistic deity and then became polytheistic later you would be laughed out of the building as history and anthropology both show that Yahweh was originally a polytheistic deity who became monotheistic and the Hebrews were originally polytheists before they were monotheists. You need to accept the facts and reject your anti historical, and anti anthropological view of the world for history shows the Bible to be a false account of history.

Maria, there's no sense in arguing with you, as you will believe what ever you want to believe just to satisfy your own ego, It seems that people are always trying to take the widest road to an easy guilt-free life. It is never easy to be a Christian, let alone a Catholic for that Matter. Taking the Narrowest road is the best way to go, at least for me it is. Thank you. I shall not answer anymore question and false info from you. Nothing can stop me from praying for you. Have a good life.

I believe what I believe to satisfy logic and reason as well as my own ego. I take the reason based road and live over all a guilt free life because I choose to accept myself for who I am and live by the principle that I should harm no one. The so called narrowest road of guilt, self hatred and self denial is not best for anyone as any psychologist will tell you. Next again I could care less whether you pray to your Canaanite war god or not on my behalf as he dosen't like you anymore then me. Further more you did this before you can't refute what I am saying so you say that you are "done talking to me" it is clear that you have deluded yourself to be part of this cult.

I'll take my chances with God.

So at heart, you don't really embrace your faith in God, but you are just going along with it to sort of "play the odds." Although the faith doesn't really have any meaning to you, unto itself, you hang onto it as a sort of eternal "get out of jail free" card. It's not really a true faith at all, but it's just a sort of business decision that you are making, and you are hoping to get some sort of return on that investment.

You think that, without that promise of some kind of eternal reward, all of the effort that you are putting into being "virtuous" is somehow wasted. Money down the toilet. A giant ponzi scheme. Without that eternal reward, you see all of the money you put into charitable causes as one giant swindle. After all, it doesn't really do anything for you that you brought a bit of hope and warmth into the world by it. You don't even know these people. What do they mean to you?

And, as far as you are concerned, my idea that all of the charitable giving was worthwhile unto itself makes me a fucked-up socialist and the spawn of the devil. You see my humanistic ideas about the universal equality of Man as somehow inferior to your faith. You think that my ideal, that my fellow man is exactly as worthwhile in the world as I am, is less meaningful than your belief.

Somehow, I have a strong sense that your real faith, which you are not sharing with us here, is better than the version I described above, which is what I deduce from your arguments. I bet it's a really nice, human, warm kind of faith. I imagine that, at heart, your faith in God is genuine. I think you really feel him there in your life, and I think it has meaning to you. I really wish that you would share it with us. It would make things around here a lot nicer.

My pet peeve with some Christians is that, all too often, they don't share their faith. They just share arguments, and their arguments are usually kind of crappy and transparent. I can understand why. Sharing something that is as personal to you as your faith requires a bit of courage. It opens you up to being hurt.
