On my way to the hospital

^ Thank you for your concern. I rarely post in Hot Topics anymore, but your post requires a direct reply.

I don't remember what has been discussed in this thread, but in January 2014, I shattered my left hip in a fall on ice. The entire hip was replaced. Two years later, in November 2016, I fell on the other side and broke my right hip, my right wrist, and my right shoulder. The hip and wrist were both pinned and screwed in surgery, but the shoulder could not be repaired by surgery. It was bound in a sling (no cast) and allowed to heal naturally. I spent a month and one day in hospital for that one.

I have healed for the most part but I have not recovered. Sadly, that means that I am not doing better in 2020. And dealing with a number of new health issues, I will never do better in the future. Life will only become more difficult for me.

But, I do what I can and will continue to do so until I am unable to do them any longer. Until then, I'll do all I can to not fall down again.

My advice to everyone: Don't Fall Down.

In Love in the Time of Cholera, there is a line that has stayed with me and came to mind after I had a bad fall about a decade ago:

"Old age and death come with a fall"

So yeah. Don't fall down.

If you ever have to fall again, try to fall up.

So sorry to hear that the pain issues have not subsided, Neil. I know that pain is something you deal with on a daily basis. I fell on ice in my driveway back in December, and tore the miniscus in my right knee. Thank goodness for a great doctor and chiropractor. My doctor referred me to him!

I am sorry about your continuing health issues. I pray that all will get better for you. Stay safe (*8*)

My wife had a propensity of falling. Some of this was due to her being born with C.P.. What made it worse was being on medications that would make a person without any condition unstable. One day she fell and hit her chin on a counter top, this caused a vertebra to slide forward and pinch her spine, a condition called Spondylolisthesis. A very good neurologist that we have known for over 40 years took her off of the meds. that made her unstable and arranged for a surgeon to operate and fix her problem. She has gone from a wheel chair to a walker but is no where near where she was before the fall.

As we age the most dangerous thing that we encounter is falling. Neil, my heart goes out to you.

I applaud Neil for doing what we all would be wise to do if and when we age to the point that we begin falling. He has taken every precaution he can to make it less likely.

My young years were spent surrounded by the elderly. It was common for some to not acknowledge the changes that come with long life. It doesn't necessarily take the sting out of it, but looking at it honestly and dealing with it seems wiser than denial. It reminds me of being poor. We knew we were poor, and we did what we had to do in those circumstances. Life wasn't as nice as it was for the middle class kids, but it was what it was. We didn't expect other.

Well, there ya go, an example of why we're not ready to let go of Hell yet.

Neil
I am very sorry for your fall and how it has left your body in such a mess. Yes, I know that our bodies do not respond as they did in your younger years. We do the best that we can with the cards we are dealt in life. My best wishes to you and you are ALWAYS in my thoughts and prayers. Hang in there buddy!!
