On my way to the hospital

Groceries aren't a problem. My grocery cart goes with me everywhere. I don't have to carry, but it helps with my balance as well. I'm still very concerned about winter, though. I didn't like ice much before, and I like it even less now. I'm even more concerned that my reservations about it may make it more dangerous walking. I'll just have to wait and see how it goes.

I know Neil has a shopping bag cart/wheeler to help him transport his purchases.

Neil, I suppose it's good news on the whole. I wish your balance and back were better, but I'm glad your legs are at least behaving more.

It is good to hear that things are going as well as can be expected, Neil. It sounds like the doctor will be pleased overall, when you go to see him.

Keeland, thank you for the tip! I was LOOKING for something that would actually strap on. I bought something last year which was crummy, and doesn't stay attached very well, or "rides up" far enough in some direction where it slips off, etc.

I've realized - from the OP of this thread, among others, that something like a "wrong fall on ice" could completely fuck the rest of my life over.

I actually "upgraded" to the overshoe style. I always thought such a thing should be available. I didn't find it last year.

Also, consider walking like a penguin ;)

I just bought a set of ice grips for my shoes. They have a 9 out of 10 satisfaction rating.

They cost me $40, but I feel safer about winter already.

Glad to hear that, Neil. With the cooler weather, you'll be up to jogging back and forth to the store this winter!

:D

....

I've had a similar pair for years. Love 'em. And no spills, but on ice remember to be a penguin.

I think the Canadian government should supply machine-gun-sized flame throwers to everyone who lives where winter is a bitch. For free.

A sop to the squeamish could be a law restricting their being carried during the year to that of the studded-tire calendar.

Ooh, I may get myself a pair this winter. It can get pretty icy here, and I took a few nasty spills last winter.

^They're available through Amazon. They come in various sizes. Be sure to get the Pro version. It has a Velcro strap on top to help keep the grip in place.
