Very well said! We are facing the sme questions in Perth, Western Australia, at the moment. It seems that when things appear to begin to improve for queert people, many of us back down and are happy to disappear into the homogenous bland, sorry - blend - that is straight suburbia. THe fact is that we are different in more ways than simply our choice of lovers, and Pride is a time to take up that point and make the most of it for our benefit, but also for the broader community's sake indirectly.A Pride Parade should be the gay community's day to be ourselves out loud. I refuse to censor myself so the suburbanites can come down and have me entertain them. Pride is for US... not for us to put on a show for THEM.
And why would anyone want to 'Disneyfy' Pride for the safe consumption of our politics by children! I mean, WTF?! What is wrong with these people? It's a little strange to want to make it about kids, isn't it? It is still our Queer Adult Sexually Aware Pride we're protesting for, isn't it???
