No, a white man who's into black guys is known as a dinge queen. A nigger lover is a white liberal who supports equal rights for negroes. Not sure what a gringo who likes Hispanics is called -- "spic and span"? "Tortilla queen?" If he's into underage Hispanics, I guess he'd be looking for "arroz con pollo."

Any more questions?

I have been called much worse and I did not bother to take any offense.

I do not actively use the term though, unless surrounded by people, who know me well enough, so no offense is taken. Little point in jading other dudes.

Frankly, I have adopted the PC (as in political correctness) on a professional level, but I do want to laugh and have fun at my own expense and at the expense of the others, too.

So, yeah, I am with Slobone on this one.

I'm not sure if you're being serious, sarcastic, offensive or all the above.

Can't I be all three at the same time?

Look, anybody with any maturity knows better than to get all riled up if somebody else denigrates their ethnic group, religion, sexual orientation, or whatever. What good does it do you?

If an offensive phrase is uttered by someone who doesn't know that it's offensive, you politely correct them and change the subject. If it's a taunt thrown at you by a bigot, you beat him up or run the other way, depending on how big he is. There's not much you can do to change his mind, if he even has one.

But to spend any undue part of your life with a chip on your shoulder waiting for the next insult seems like a big waste of time to me.

Obviously any term that singles you out by your race is racist, whether it's insulting or complimentary, because what it's really saying is "you're different from me, and I just want to make sure you realize it."

So if somebody says, "my, there certainly are a lot of talented Korean violinists", that's just as racist as saying "you have slanty eyes." Right?

So the best policy for all us fags, dikes, chavs, spics, niggers, wops, white trash, chinks, micks, kikes, polacks, gringos, honkies and goys is to just get over it, laugh it off, and move on to something more important.

OK, the PC police have struck here at JUB...... My boyfriend is Asian...... he calls me a rice queen and he tells me that he is not into "sticky rice" As long as it is not used as an insult who the hell cares! Sign me.... just another potato!

Like many terms that describe people, it can be used derogatorily or jokingly. If it's used by a friend teasing you, it's just a joke; if it's used by someone trying to pigeonhole you for his own purposes, so that he can look down on you and dehumanize you, it's derogatory. I don't usually get offended if something is meant humorously, but if I detect any hostility or condescension behind the use of the term, my hackles go up.

I have often looked with concern on people who sexually objectify any race or ethnicity, but at the same time I know that attraction is a complex and inscrutable thing. I know several Caucasian men who date nothing but Asian men, and I know a lot of Asian men who've never dated another Asian. Black and white, Latin and Nordic, all sorts of exclusive interracial tastes develop in our world.

But then, I've never dated a man of a different ethnicity from myself, so what does that make me?

^^^^ Have to agree with Slobone. Far too much time and effort is spent on looking for and finding offense with various terms. If something comes up in conversations I have that is said in a way that is offensive or derogatory to someone or group, all I say is that is not the way I feel and if it is bad enough from someone, I just tell them they can think what they want, but they don't need to say it with me being present. I say it in a matter of fact way, not as one being offended. I'm Dutch, Irish and American Indian and enough has been said of all three groups, but I don't get in a lather about it, I usually can see the humor and can laugh but then move on. There are far more important things to worry about in life.

Because the word ni@@er has roots going back hundreds of years into slavery and Jim Crow including individuals being owned, abused, insulted, raped, hung, tortured, and many other horrible things.

So its kind of hard to use that word for anything else anymore. It would be like trying to rework the term "Holocaust Victim" into everyday slang.

Good points and good advice, but it didn't really address the question. Why is one term widely acceptable and the other widley frowned upon in the gay community? I agree that people should take things lightly in most cases, doesn't mean I'll use the words but I'm not gonna go crazy when they are used. Plus it's also possible to take the negativity/power from terms also. It's like the word faggot. I have friends who hate the word. I could hear the most backwards preacher ranting about faggots this and faggots that but when I hear the word all I think is faggots = gays. I'm sure he means it bad, but it has no negative power to me.

Sorry, you're not going to get me to rephrase my point in your terminology. What does "acceptable" mean? Who gets to decide?

And what is the "gay community"? Isn't it just a bunch of people who happen to be gay? Why should we have any different standards of behavior than any other segment of society?

I have no problem dealing with people one at at time. It's when they start deciding they're part of a group that the trouble starts, every time.

I'm never offended when a guy says he thinks people of my heritage are sexy.

i just consider it a compliment.

anything can be used as a derogatory term, and I think that the intentions always need to be considered, not the words used.

There are some words that will never be ok... but those are few and far between.

and really... 95 percent of the people i have run across will modify their behavior if you simply ask nicely to not use certain words in your presence.

the other five percent i dont really care to associate with or value the opinions of anyway. They hurt their viewpoint more than help it.

once you are a self professed racist, I feel that there is little that can be done with that level of sociopathic behavior, but those true blue racists are actually few and far between, in spite of what you often hear.

Once you spit in the well, theres no going back there for water. Just make sure you aren't going to die of thirst because you think all the wells are spit in. ;)

if someone came up to me in a bar and said he was a sand nigga digga, I would probably laugh... DOn't know if I'd fuck him, but I'd be open to a conversation.

if someone told me to strap a bomb on my back and blow myself up?

that would make them hopeless in my mind.

interesting posts! very thoughtful responses, keep em comin!

like riverrick said, the word "n**ger" has internalized connotation and meaning to equate racism and all that inhuman stuff that happened. it's difficult for many people i think to NOT be appalled when someone says "n***ger lover" because of that strong meaning behind it

on the rice/potato queen thing, i've never thought of it as an insult, i know some of my friends profess to be either one. personally, i think it's not so much an insult as it is a funny form of abbreviation. and i think that those terms are just funny ways to describe preference, not necessarily negative.

but that's just me (*8*)

There's something odd with the terms of rice queen and potato queen. Where on earth did they come from? I made a thread about labels, mainly the one being about islamophobia, but terms like "rice queen" and "potato queen" just seem pointless terms that do nothing. Also I agree with Jzero that the labels imply that asian men having sexual urges or even being sexually attractive is a very odd and even funny thing!

](*,) ](*,)

offensive and rude and condescending. people are not labels, they are people.

:grrr: :grrr:

even if i am a mere village idiot i think it is desrespectful, is that the best homosexual faggots can do?

Rice queen, potato queen, yellow fever, rice fever, sticky rice (Asian-Asian preferences), etc - all are used frequently in HK, and are spoken with humour and affection. We describe ourselves as "oriental" without any problems about political correctness, and are amused when folks in America and UK get upset about it.

The only really insulting terms I can think of offhand are si-faat-louh (arsehole man, used like "faggot" by straights) and dau-fu-pouh (tofu woman=lesbian).

[P.S. Some object to the word "queen"]

tofu woman?

where have I been?

I'm Dutch, Irish and American Indian and enough has been said of all three groups, but I don't get in a lather about it

So you could buy Manhattan Island from yourself, and then take over the police and fire departments?

Oh great, now how am I supposed to keep a straight face the next time I'm chowing down on ma po tofu?
