1/ When you are dead, the body is NO longer yours, therefore the government should have every right to use it for other peoples benefits.
2/ Your family do not own your body when you are dead.
3/ If the body is yours when you are dead, why don't you becomes a ghost and tell us "don't use my body".
4/ Your body will be rotten and disappeared to the soil forever.

I disagree. My body is my own and if i decide i don't want to be gutted like a fish that is my choice. Most people don't like me for whatever reason (gayness, punkness, fuck you attitude) and i sincerely feel that if im not good enough for 'em alive i sure as shit ain't gonna be good enough for em when ill be dead. If i could chose who my organs went to then it would be a different matter.

2. They have to pay for your burial, or disposal if you've not made arrangements already.
3. You're being silly now.
4. Everything decays eventually. It's not a reason why I should store my semen samples I make everyday.

Actually, Telstra, considering a will is a legal document, you do still have a say on the planet once you're dead, so I don't see why your body isn't part of that. You can donate your earthly possessions once you're dead, your body is a possession of a sort, and hence really should operate in the same way.

What is a much better idea is to instead of having an opt-in system, have an opt-out system.

At the moment in most countries, you have to sign up to donate your organs. What I believe would be better would having to sign up to not be an organ donor. This would basically counter the lazy people who really don't give a shit one way or another.

I mean, I'd love more organ donors on the planet, don't get me wrong. I know someone who means A LOT to me who has a terminal illness, and I imagine that the only way we could give him more time would be to give him a new set of lungs. But a set stolen from someone who doesn't want to give them away?

I think even though you're conscious, if you're mentally unfit, then you can't make legal decisions about your care so someone else is in charge of your body.

If you're unconscious, then other people would have to make a decision about your care.

If you're dead, then other people would have to make a decision about the disposal of your ex-body.

Whatever the reason, something legal is required, and that determines the ownership of said body.

Every person should have the civil and religious right to decide what happens to the body after death. Donating organs is seen as sacrilege by some religions. Therefore, compulsory donation would be and invasion of the individual's personal beliefs.

That's the thing, families DO own the body, even after death. It is their right to decide what happens to it. Most families prefer to follow the person's wishes and other families make the decisions on their own. That right should not evern be taken away.

If a traditional burial is the family's choice then it has to be respected and followed through on. Besides, bodies don't necessarily decay into the Earth. Caskets, when buried, are locked inside giant vaults that can't ever be reopened.

A few months ago, a program with Stephen Fry travelling through America showed a compound used by the forensic crime lab somewhere in the middle of America. They showed on tv rotting human corpses placed in different situations all in the pursuit of science.

I think people would hesitate if they knew that their body would be stuck in a tank of bilge water and rotting in the sun for science.

I'm all for the benefit that organ transplants provide, but I firmly believe it should be the decision said individual makes while still living or then by the family.

That exactly is the case in Argentina, it's an opt-out country. This law was enacted about 3 years ago. Everyone is a donor unless you opt-out. Argentna is way low in organ donors and always will be for the simple reason that people generally don't want to go to the trouble of signing up as organ donors, and that is the reason Argentine lawmakers came up with this law. I myself signed-up to be an organ donor since the day i turned 18, without knowing that eventually i would become a twice transplanted patient,

You don't know the deep feelings i have for the families that decided to donate their loved-ones organs, to have to suffer the loss and decide that someone else should continue living must be very difficult and i and my family will be forever grateful. I can't put into words the feelings i have on this subject.

If you have'nt signed-up to donate your organs, please consider it.
