Osama Bin Laden killed!

I am expecting a huge upsurch on terrorist attacks on both the American homeland and in Britain as well but at the same time i also agree that Pakistan will have a lot of explaining to do. In the meantime i think that i am going to have a quite emotional visit to my Lovers Grave and have a nice long chat with him.
All you guy,s take care . Adam x
This is the problem now. Whilst bin Laden's death is a PR victory and brings justice to those affected by 9/11 and 7/7 and the subsequent 'war on terror', it hasn't made the world a safer place. He supporters will consider him a martyr, his number 2 is still alive, and many splinter groups will now be planning revenge (maybe orders for sleeper cells have always been in place for his death and will now be triggered). It will go one of two ways, we will be subject to many smaller attacks or one MASSIVE attack again - and I'm now more worried for the Olympics next year.

It will be interesting to hear what the Pakistan government has to say. Because they're so paranoid about India invading them, they need to keep Afghanistan on side so that they have somewhere for a strategical retreat if it happens. If hiding bin Laden was the bargaining chip, then Pakistan is probably about to be given the coldest of shoulders by many countries for a while.

Adam, go tell your guy the good news - I'm sure he'll be pleased to hear it. (*8*)
Ur knee jerk reaction to the death announcement was to make it a democratic victory and ridicule GWB...
I agree, I didn't think GWB needed ridiculing... he seemed to do a pretty good job of it himself without any outside help. ;)
*sorry, I just couldn't resist that one!

Just caught the news of what Obama has accomplished for the USA. But wonder when the the far right will be out to be critical of what he accomplished.

Most people who aren't Leftists have supported the War on Terror and will be happy with the President's accomplishment.

Of course, each side has wackos. Maybe a few will express themselves.

Leave it to him to enter a thread and start scolding everyone. Cripes.

Shaddap and enjoy the news.

And isn't it too typical?

Every fucking thread.

The resident scold. The self appointed hall monitor. The Mod wannabe. With never anything of substance to actually add by way of information or discussion of the actual topic...

I suspect that we'll be told now this trap was carefully laid by the US and Pakistan to provide the optimal setting for the assassination of this filthy cur. I missed Obama's address but will be watching it this morning. All I can say is 'eat this' Trump'.

But. I also think that we won't be able to rest until the 2 IC and a lot of others are strung up on a pole somewhere. Perhaps though, this will mark a new phase in tracking down and obliterating the AQ leadership and cells though.

And while I think it is delicious that they 'buried' him at sea, I'm going to have a hard time eating anything that comes out of it now.

I would have thrown him into a garbage heap somewhere and let the rats eat him.

^ ^As a corollary to my above post.....When I have now read that the compound was in fact in a highly militarized area, I find it seriously disturbing that it implies bin Laden had such a confidence in his relationship with the Pakistani military, that even if it was a trap, he felt he could live safely among them.

The discovery that bin Laden was living in an army town in Pakistan raises pointed questions about how he managed to evade capture and even whether Pakistan's military and intelligence leadership knew of his whereabouts and sheltered him.

I suspect we're never going to be given the entire story, but let's see what kind of changes now take place in Pakistan as a result of this strike.

Nothing of that is anything new: simply the blunt reality of facts may compel some people NOW to feel more "disturbed" about the old reality of the Pakistan Files... while most people will remain as clueless as ever, and join the wicked-witch-is-dead merry-go-round.

He's been thrown to the sea, metaphorically and/or literally, because that page needs to be turned: there are still zillions of Osamas to be hunted.

Apparently, the military base nearby is the equivilent of our 'Sandhurst' military training camp. It is inconceivable that an academy like that would NOT know who it's neighbours were.

Even ordinary people would be thinking 'I wonder who lives in that house.'

Can't wait to hear the excuses.

He made a factual statement. Was it a jab at Bush? Probably.
You could have ignored it -- you didn't.
What you did was unleash this bickering that is an insult to the victory that was achieved. You s,ay you respect the office, but that appears to be an empty claim: you have yet to thank the President for his persistence which led to this accomplishment. You spend your time instead trashing on others here.
If you'd been polite (silent) and patient, you would have gotten the chance to point out that Bush was part of this effort, that Clinton was part of this effort. Now if you do, it will just look like whining to justify yourself.
Drop the personal & political crap, and show yourself an American: let's hear it for the President!
And for the two before him.
But especially for the boys in those helicopters. ..| :gogirl:

Thx for looking again

You lost me at "was it a jab at bush? Probably". Club speak

Making excuses for ur patchy

Like I've stated many times

You've changed - and it's too bad

Give Roger ailes a buzz .............

Perhaps u can go toe to toe with Charles k on this ;)

I tend to think Obama should LOVE to get out

Shore up his base
Save a few billions
Less military deaths

Thinking he might like that

It might seem politically expedient to get out more quickly but I believe Obama will make the long term success decision that serves the nation. The same reason he made the appropriate decisions on wiretapping, GTMO, wartime efficacy, and any of the slew of other items his base thought he would immediately change directions on as President. He is above all else an intelligent man and when presented with the entire story made similar decisions as his predecessor. No President Obama will finish the job in Afghanistan or watch terrorist flow from after he retires as President. I have full faith he will finish the job leaving a fledgling sovereign nation that can grow on its own.

^ Will they all be future Jesse Ventura's? :-)

I doubt it. Most of those guys are amazingly motivated and intelligent. Which Jesse Ventura was and still is. however Jesse drove around a corner at one point screaming about aliens and never came back.

It is an odd choice to use a team of frogs. That is if any of you have read the various accounts of the action in Afghanistan. There is a decided bias amongst the Army Spec Ops about how well the SEALs perform versus Delta, Green Berets or even Airborne.

Bin Laden's body is being "treated with respect" by the US, reports say, and will be buried within 24 hours, as is islamic custom.

To avoid his gravesite becoming a shrine, it's been suggested that his burial be at sea? Probably the best option.

Thoughts?

He will be buried with every respect because that is what makes us different. We have a Law of Armed Conflict. They are the terrorist.

^
They threw him in the sea.

He's now ruined the Oceans for me too.

On behalf of my friend Aaron who was killed in the WTC attack, I hope the sea barfs him back out.

And Jesus Chance.

Any chance of just giving it a rest?

You've become a ridiculous caricature on all these threads.

He will be buried with every respect because that is what makes us different.

Does it?

I wonder how many of those were buried with the respect, because you are different.

While I often consider some notices of death relieving, I don't wish death upon anyone. It probably was impossible to capture him alive .. or at least very difficult .. nobody knows (for now) what exactly has been going on in this building. But the public reaction to this somewhat makes me uncomfortable.

By the way (as rareboy said) he was supposedly already "buried in the sea". = dumped into the water.

dumped in the sea ?
What if it floats back and someone found his body?
They should make sure the shark eat the body first.

About the civilian deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan.
What is the % killed by US soldiers and % killed by the insurgents ?

I bet the insurgents killed their own people much more.

I understand the celebrations. Catharsis. A degree of finality. In terms of the initial ringleader. He did start this mess. He is a mass murderer. The invasion of Afghanistan was the right response. Iraq? Not so much. And one reason why obl's demise did take so long. Bush's triumph became Bush's folly with that second invasion.

I am glad that obl is dead. Buried at sea? Let his body disappear forever. Shot in the head? Deserved that fate and more.

alot of innocent people in Iraq died as this guy sat in a fortified compound in Pakistan. Its going to take some time, but I want answers to that as an american. If Obama is not the man to release some documents o nthis after the fact, then the gov't needs to be sued to get the info.

I am starting to believe in Mr Assange a bit more this morning.

As a lot of you know, I always host a family of a soldier while he or she is in afghanistan. I have been getting calls all night from some of the guys that were there and are now home, and they are very... i dont want to say numb... just very hesitant.

I worry about them. One of them couldn't sleep inside for about six months after he came home. He had to sleep in his car. I guess he always slept in the armed vehicle they were traveling in, and he prefered having the ability to become mobile when threatened.

He was in tears and said that he couldn't put into words what he was feeling but that he was happy the man was dead. He also said while this restored our nations dignity it didn't make his children any more safe.

He was very torn between wanting to feel better and wanting to be frigntened that its not over.

and lets be clear.

its not over. We are going to be vulnerable and I have no doubt there will be retaliation.

But the man that killed thousands has met his maker. I hope there is a special place in hell for Osama.

Another good thing about this news is we haven't seen Donald Trump on television this morning!
(!)

Well, I'm a bit late joining the party. Watched the Borgia's last night and hit the rack. Saw it on MSNBC in the AM.

Wonderful news, no doubt and the president is to be congratulated. It's very much like Harry Truman being the first president fighting the cold war and George H.W. Bush being the final one. It's an effort over time. This information was developed over a four year span and over two administrations. That's called continuity and it works. Obama got the "K" so he gets the kudos.

Mazda is exactly right. Somebody on MSNBC made the comparison that even though Colonel Sanders is gone, KFC is still an operational franchise. It's much the same with the terrorists. Bin Laden had no real ability to run day to day operations given his situation. We've now got lots of little cells out doing their own thing. It's just a matter of some idiot now heading to a crowded mall with an AK-47 or an explosive laden vest. We're no where out of the woods yet.

It feels good, for sure. I do have a certain amount of envy for the SEAL who put that round into his coconut right between his running lights. That's called job satisfaction!
